General Hospital (Gh) spoilers and updates for Tuesday, April 30 tease shocking surprises, mysterious meetings, and rude interruptions.
Coming Up On General Hospital
Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) has a shocking surprise, Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) a mysterious meeting, and Nina Reeves (Cynthia Watros) gets a rude interruption!
Sasha’s Shocking Surprise
In the Quartermaine stable in Cody Bell’s (Josh Kelly) apartment, Sasha has a shocking surprise-only she’s the one who looks shocked!
Cody asks, and why is he just hearing of this now-perhaps he’s just found out that Sasha is the new cook at the Quartermaine mansion, hired by Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero). Considering the look of shock on Sasha’s face, she’s not the one who told him.
Perhaps Olivia herself or possibly Leo Quartermaine (Easton Rocket Sweda) told Cody about Sasha’s new job.
They will be neighbors now, with him working and living...

JoBlo.com recently launched a new weekly documentary series called 80s Horror Memories, where each year of the 1980s has five episodes dedicated to it. Looking back at 1980, we discussed Maniac, Dressed to Kill, Alligator, Friday the 13th, The Shining, Prom Night, and The Fog. The second five episodes were a journey through 1981, covering The Funhouse, The Burning, Friday the 13th Part 2, My Bloody Valentine, Halloween II, The Evil Dead, The Howling, and An American Werewolf in London, as well as the careers of horror hosts Elvira and Joe Bob Briggs. The next five were, of course, all about movies that came out in 1982: Conan the Barbarian, The Thing, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, and Poltergeist, with an examination of the short-lived 3-D boom along the way. For 1983, we talked about a trio of Stephen King adaptations, Jaws 3-D, Sleepaway Camp, the rise of TV horror anthologies, and Psycho II.

As the ’80s came to a close, so too did the first wave of the slasher cycle. While they would continue to be produced into the next decade, 1989 was the last gasp of a dying genre. Returning franchises and hopeful upstarts alike struggled to make an impact. We all know you can never really kill a slasher, but it would take Scream‘s reinvention of the concept in 1996 to renew broad interest.
Cutting Class, another ’89 entry in the subgenre, marked the directorial debut — and, as it turned out, sole directorial effort — from Rospo Pallenberg, who notably co-wrote Excalibur, contributed uncredited rewrites on Exorcist II: The Heretic, and served as a “creative associate” on Deliverance. Despite his pedigree, Pallenberg did not write the script; that was the work of Steve Slavkin, who would go on to create Nickelodeon’s pivotal series Salute Your Shorts.

Join your horror hosts Kimmi & Jon as they kick off a double-feature of techo-horrors from the master himself, Wes Watts Craven, on this week’s episode of Nightmare on Film Street. First up, we’re tuning in, turning on, and getting jacked up on Shocker (1989), a would-be franchise starter filled with ghost girlfriends, TeleVoodo, heavy metal, and a body-swapping serial killer!
When Horace Pinker, convicted multiple murder, conquers death and escapes prison After being fried in the electric chair, it’s up to one annoying football quarterback to stop him before it’s too late. We’ll be perfectly honest with you, this movie doesn’t make a whole lot of sense but it’s one hell of a good time, overflowing with brilliant ideas from Mr. Craven, including a massage chair that comes to life and a channel surfing fist fight filtered through funky late 80s special effects. I’m always looking forward to that magical time of year. As I’ve gotten older things have changed, but the feelings I get have not. What I’m talking about is obviously Halloween. Not even just Halloween, special Halloween programming. For me, it all started with It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, the The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror and then just got better and better.
Anyone remember Snick or Treat? Each year there was some kind of game or call-in number and you could win cool prizes like glow in the dark shirts, video games, VHS tapes of your favorite Nick shows, Pizza Hut gift cards, a TV, a Nickelodeon jean jacket, and I think they...

The horror landscape is filled to the brim with icons and mascots that were successful and failures. The big ones like Freddy, Jason, and Michale speak for themselves, hence only needing their first names mentioned here. You could even go another round with Pinhead, the Leprechaun or Leatherface for that matter. Looking down the aisle at the literal murderer’s row of horror movie villains, you can’t shake a stick without hitting some one-off baddies that were clearly meant for multi-movie stardom but due to box office or critical hate were relegated to one movie. Killers like Horace Pinker from Shocker, Dr. Decker from Nightbreed, and Cropsey from The Burning. What about those stuck...

When looking at some special effects-heavy films that have come out of Japan in recent years, the “Shin Japan Heroes Universe” has graced audiences with some of the more unique and higher-quality tokusatsu titles in a long time. In particular, the live-action movies from this ongoing collaborative series are more than just standard reboots of long-existing franchises. “Shin Godzilla” and “Shin Ultraman” were clever reimaginings that modernized their respective franchises while preserving the themes each one embodied. Hideaki Anno celebrates the legacy of yet another groundbreaking series for the latest installment of these reboots as he delivers a spectacular action-packed emotional rollercoaster of a feature with his new film “Shin Kamen Rider.”
“Shin Kamen Rider” is the 50th-anniversary celebration of the classic 1970s television series “Kamen Rider” and its manga counterpart of the same name, both created by legendary manga artist and writer Shotaro Ishinomori. This time, Anno directs solo...

After reimagining two other larger-than-life Japanese icons, Hideaki Anno naturally sought out another tokusatsu juggernaut to complete his “Shin” trilogy. And after the success of both Shin Godzilla and Shin Ultraman, fans of the filmmaker and/or Kamen Rider were curious to see how the grandfather of tokusatsu television would be updated. The final product ends up being more low-risk than Anno’s past projects, but Shin Kamen Rider is also one of his most heartfelt works to date.
Kamen Rider is certainly no stranger to reinvention. Despite the many entries in this long-running franchise, Anno goes back to the very beginning for Shin Kamen Rider’s story. Much like in the original TV series created by Shōtarō Ishinomori, the Kamen Rider seen here is a force of good with a dark origin. However, the movie reenvisions the terrorist organization Shocker as Shocker (an abbreviation for Sustainable Happiness Organization with...

Red Right Hand: An Oral History – How the Nick Cave Song Became the Anthem of the ‘Scream’ Franchise
In October of 1994, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds unleashed their eighth studio album Let Love In. Three singles were released in conjunction with the certified silver UK collection leading up to its formal launch. And while “Do You Love Me?” and “Loverman” set the stage for the prolific album and its harmonic tenor, it was the third single that would go on to cross the boundaries of its art form and firmly implant itself in the hallowed halls of horror history.
Scream (1996) slashed its way to genre hungry audiences several years after “Red Right Hand” hit the shelves in music stores. Although the song was written independently of the film, it’s difficult to imagine one without the other. From the second it begins, “Red Right Hand” ushers forth a domineering force, guided by the bloody governing appendage of a madman that perfectly encapsulates the film’s ever encroaching threat.

As the beginning of his IMDb bio states, “Every horror film buff will recognize the name Jacques Haitkin.” Haitkin was the cinematographer on one of the most popular horror movies ever made, the 1984 Wes Craven classic A Nightmare on Elm Street (watch it Here). And while Craven didn’t return to the helm for A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge, Haitkin did return to be the cinematographer on that sequel. Sadly, we have to share the news today that Jacques Haitkin is no longer with us. This news was broken on the Facebook account of filmmaker Tony Randel, who is best known for directing Hellbound: Hellraiser II and worked with Haitkin on Galaxy of Terror, Ticks, Fist of the North Star, Rattled, One Good Turn, and Assignment Berlin.
Randel posted, “I knew Jacques Haitkin practically my entire career. We met on a Roger Corman horror/sci-fi epic – Galaxy of Terror.

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from “Scream VI,” now playing in theaters.
The casual horror fan probably noticed a few iconic masks and monsters in the “Scream VI” subway scene: There’s Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Pinhead and even modern staples like Florence Pugh’s flower dress from “Midsommar” and a group of tethered people from Jordan Peele’s “Us.” But costume designer Avery Plewes and directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett went to extra lengths to pack more than 50 Easter eggs, costumes and blink-and-you-miss-it references into the latest “Scream.”
Tracking down Ghostface in New York City, the “Scream VI” crew, consisting of Tara Carpenter (Jenna Ortega), Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown), Chad Meeks-Martin (Mason Gooding), Ethan Landry (Jack Champion) and Danny Brackett (Josh Segarra), pile into the subway to confront the latest masked killer. However, it’s Halloween time, which means the train car...

As we approach O-Day and the 95th Academy Awards on March 12, it’s always fun to go back and look at the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories and revel in some of the trivia and shockers that have gone down on the awards season’s biggest stage. This is the rare year when Meryl Streep isn’t in the running, as her 21 overall nominations in the acting categories are nearly double the number of her closest female pursuer, Katherine Hepburn, who has 12. However, Hepburn still holds the all-time Oscar record with four acting wins. Streep has a mere three.
Here are some other actress category factoids to chew on:
Should Cate Blanchett win Best Actress this year for her role in “Tar,” she would tie Streep, Ingrid Bergman and Frances McDormand for second place behind Hepburn among actresses with three triumphs apiece. All four of Hepburn’s wins...

If you read our Gold Derby combined odds for Oscar Best Picture, you see that the race is over and “Everything Everywhere All at Once” is about to be crowned at the Academy Awards on March 12. But the favorite doesn’t always win the horserace. Upsets happen. The longshot comes in. Jaws drop. Calculations go awry. Something that no one could see coming winds up coming in. Chaos reigns.
And we love it.
If there is anything we’ve learned, it’s that there are no guarantees. Films that the majority think should have won, don’t. That’s particularly true in hindsight. “Citizen Kane,” widely regarded as the finest film of the 20th century, lost. So did the film many consider to be Martin Scorsese’s best, “Raging Bull.” “Moonlight” beat “La La Land.” “Crash” upset “Brokeback Mountain.” “Shakespeare in Love” upended “Saving Private Ryan.” “Chariots of Fire” snared the trophy over “Reds.

"And so art is everywhere, since artifice is at the very heart of reality. And so art is dead, not only because its critical transcendence is gone, but because reality itself, entirely impregnated by an aesthetic which is inseparable from its own structure, has been confused with its own image. Reality no longer has the time to take on the appearance of reality. It no longer even surpasses fiction: it captures every dream even before it takes on the appearance of a dream."—Jean BaudrillardWes Craven’s Scream (1996), which came out well after the slasher film had gone out of style, introduced horror fans to a college student's idea of postmodernism. That isn't a knock, by the way: some of what you learn in college is very useful, and oh how good it can feel to name-drop something you've just discovered in the classroom. This is what Scream does. Wes Craven is an undeniable master of horror, having terrified the world with his creation, "A Nightmare on Elm Street," only to completely subvert the slasher genre he helped perfect and kickstart a new generation's love of horror with "Scream." With no exaggeration, horror today would not exist as it does today if it weren't for the brilliance of Wes Craven. There's no question that bringing Freddy Krueger and Ghostface into the horror canon is what Craven is most known for, but his filmography also includes horror favorites like "The Hills Have Eyes," "Deadly Blessing," "The Serpent and the Rainbow," "Shocker," "Cursed," "Red Eye," "Swamp Thing,"...

High school stud Jonathan (Peter Berg) is having dreams where he can see the identity of a serial killer terrorizing the city. Welcome to the future of TV singing competitions.
Fox has unveiled a sneak peek at the new series Alter Ego — debuting Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 9/8c — that the network is billing as “the world’s first avatar singing competition.” In it, aspiring singers perform in front of a panel of celebrity judges… not as themselves, though, but in the form of a digitally animated avatar and “showcasing their unique performance style via motion capture technology.” It’s sort of The Masked Singer meets The Voice with a dash of The Sims, plus a sprinkling of Black Mirror for the dystopian sci-fi vibes.
