Brendan Gleeson and Sam Keeley have signed on for Ron Howard's period action drama "In the Heart of the Sea" at Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow.
Based on Nathaniel Philbrick's fact-based book, it follows the Nantucket whaling ship the Essex, which was stalked and ultimately destroyed by a sperm whale in 1820.
Stranded thousands of miles from home, the crew struggled to survive and were lost at see for three months, at one point they were reduced to cannibalism. Only eight were ultimately rescued. The incident was the inspiration for Herman Melville's "Moby Dick."
Gleeson plays an older version of one of the surviving crew members who is interviewed years later by author Herman Melville. Melville later writes "Moby Dick" based on the interviews.
Keeley plays one of the crew members. Chris Hemsworth, Ben Walker, Cillian Murphy and Tom Holland.
Brian Grazer, Joe Roth, Paula Weinstein and William Ward are producing.

Kristin Chenoweth is set to co-star opposite fellow Broadway boldface Matthew Broderick in CBS‘ untitled Tad Quill multi-camera comedy pilot directed by James Burrows. The project, from CBS TV Studios, centers on Jack (Broderick), a recently widowed father who raises his 12-year old son while jumping back into the dating pool. Chenoweth, repped by CAA, Untitled and attorney James Adams, will play Marnie, Jack’s cute but judgmental sister who works as a waitress at a nice but not-too-upscale restaurant. It is not clear if the two siblings share any musical talent. This marks Chenoweth’s return to CBS where she was booked for a major arc on The Good Wife last season, which was cut short by an on-set accident that injured the Tony-winner. Gayle Rankin will co-star opposite Ben Walker and Jesse Plemons in HBO’s Cold War spy drama pilot The Missionary, from Charles Randolph, Stephen Levinson...

Ben Walker, star of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Brodway's Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, has been cast as the lead of HBO's Cold War espionage pilot The Missionary. Aaron Paul was previously in talks for the part. Written by Charles Randolph (Love and Other Drugs), and produced by Stephen Levinson (Boardwalk Empire, Entourage) and the unlikely pair of Mark Wahlberg and Malcolm Gladwell, the series would focus on an American missionary living in sixties Berlin who becomes a CIA operative. This news comes on the heels of FX ordering thirteen episodes of their Keri Russell–starring, Russian-spies-living-in–Cold War-era America series, The Americans. Hopefully we'll get some hot cross-network spy versus spy action.

This one took awhile, but Sam Claflin has finally been set for the role of Finnick, a key piece of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. He had been the favorite for the last month, but he had a problem with an option owed to another studio that presented date problems. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter star Ben Walker, Boyd Holbrook and Tyler Hoechlin were the other competitors for that role, but Claflin’s schedule cleared and the Snow White And The Huntsman and Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides star now has a done deal. Charasmatic and clever, Finnick was a District 4 Hunger Games victor when he was fourteen.

Catching Fire rolls on, with a Lionsgate press release announcing that Lynn Cohen (Synechdoche, New York; Munich) will play Mags — the part rumored for Melissa Leo a few weeks back — in 2013′s sequel to the box office smash. Should you, like myself, be unfamiliar with the franchise (I missed the first movie, even), some context can be found in the note that Mags is “[a] former mentor to Finnick Odair, [and] an eighty year old Hunger Games victor from District 4.” It’s a classy choice for this franchise, yet no surprise; they’ve shown a very strong hand for casting throughout this entire run.
But the real focus, here, is Finnick Odair, a part that’s been up for debate since the film series was first announced. Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch, and Garret Hedlund were all eyed, and Grant Gustin (Glee) auditioned for the part. (For whatever this may be worth, it’s said that Ben Walker,...

A little while back it was announced that Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai, Courage Under Fire, Glory) would be directing a film called The Great Wall, and we were all surprised to hear it was going to be a monster flick. But what kind of monsters?
As reported earlier, The Great Wall, set in 15th century China, is about British warriors who happen upon the hurried construction of the massive wall. As night falls, the warriors realize that the haste in building the wall isn’t just to keep out the Mongols — there is something inhuman and more dangerous. The picture is based on an idea by Legendary CEO Thomas Tull and Max Brooks.
Bloody Disgusting reports that the movie will follow two former English Crusaders who will help the Chinese defend the Wall and their land against the invading Genghis Kahn and the even more dangerous T’ao T’ieh monsters!

At a lanky 6'3", Benjamin Walker was a perfect fit in his 2004 big-screen debut as the 19-year-old version of Kinsey, played in his adult years by Liam Neeson. Coincidentally (or maybe not so much), Walker is about to be seen in his first major starring role portraying a legendary historical figure Neeson was long attached to play for Steven Spielberg. Only this version of Abraham Lincoln's story is quite different from the one Spielberg will finally bring to theaters this December. For the uninitiated, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter re-imagines the 16th President of the United States as an axe-wielding slayer of the undead as screenwriter Seth Grahame-Smith adapts his own bestselling mashup novel for the big screen. While the film is very much an action-packed and re-imagined origin story of a man Grahame-Smith calls the "first and only true American superhero," both the novel and film were meticulously researched and remain very true to history.

Ed Zwick (The Last Samurai) is directing the pic which explores the mystery of just how China's Great Wall was constructed. Walker and Cavill will play 15th century soldiers who discover the wall was built to keep out more than the Mongols, it also kept out monsters. Zhang Ziyi (Tmnt, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) is also reportedly being considered for a role.
Zwick co-wrote the script with his frequent writing partner Marshall Herskovitz; both also serve as producers as well as Legendary's Thomas Tull and Max Brooks, who came up with the idea.

Abraham Lincoln is taking a little break from all that vampire slaying (it’s mighty tiring work, or so I’m told) to take a stroll along China’s monstrous Great Wall alongside Superman himself, Henry Cavill. That would be Ben Walker, who is now “in talks” to co-star with the new Superman in Ed Zwick’s intriguing sounding “The Great Wall”. Obviously when you hear Ed Zwick, the man who directed “The Last Samurai” and “Glory”, you’re hoping “The Great Wall” is not some boring documentary-type film about the building of China’s huge fence. And you’d be right, because it’s actually described as a “supernatural story.” In the film, Walker and Cavill would play 15th century British soldiers who “discover that the Great Wall wasn’t built to keep out the Mongols, but rather dangerous creatures.” So basically Walker is once again slaying creatures of the night,...

Superheroes are everywhere in cinemas this summer, what with The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and a tale about a bloke who dresses up as a Bat that some of you are slightly excited to see. But did you know there was a stealthier, pseudo-superheroic tale looking to compete with the big guns of Marvel and DC? Yes, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is playing some similar games, a fact that is discussed by writer Seth Grahame-Smith, producer Tim Burton and director Timur Bekmambetov in the latest featurette about the film over at Apple. It’s mostly a sit-down chat between the three interspersed with snippets from the trailers that we’ve already seen, so if you were hoping for a wealth of new footage, you’re going to be disappointed. The superhero side to Honest Abe (as played in the movie by Ben Walker) is clearly the focus here, as the...

Of all the outrageous, far-fetched and totally surprising ideas to come out of the Hollywood machine lately, the big screen adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's quirky bestseller "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is the most unique.
Why? We'll let star Ben Walker explain it.
"He becomes the hero we know him to be," Walker told MTV News of the twist on his iconic character at WonderCon. "He's a great American hero, we know that, but now we get to see him as a great action hero."
And how might these vampires fit into the mythology of what we've come to know about the undead?
"It fits into the mythology of what we know about Lincoln frankly," he said. "Because we know his mother died mysteriously when he was younger and Seth was clever enough to say, 'Well, what if it was vampires?' and it builds from there and it works to the end.

After years of development, Legendary Pictures has decided to kill the big-budget adaptation of John Milton's 17th-century poem "Paradise Lost" due to budget issues. Alex Proyas (I, Robot) was on board to direct the story that was to focus on a war in heaven and the rivalry between the archangels Michael and Lucifer. The project was around so long that Heath Ledger was once in talks to play Lucifer. Bradley Cooper, Ben Walker, Casey Affleck, Djimon Hounsou, Rufus Sewell, Camilla Belle, Diego Boneta and Callan McAuliffe were slated to star in the film, which was originally set to begin filming in January and then pushed to June. Insiders close to the production told Variety that while Proyas' vision of the movie was great, the technology wasn't quite there, and the filmmakers couldn't reduce the budget enough to satisfy Legendary.

2012’s most ludicrous-sounding film has released a new batch of images (perhaps to convince people that yes, this film really does exist) featuring the 16th President of the United States tooling up to fight the undead. The new images show Lincoln (Ben Walker) brandishing his trusty axe, as well as Rufus Sewell and Erin Wasson turning the tables on our stovepipe-wearing hero. The film rewrites the backstory of one of America’s great leaders to assert that Lincoln’s mother was killed by supernatural beasties. Vowing revenge,...

Visiting the set of "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter" is not unlike stepping into an elaborate joke. There's the Oval Office, Congress, a guy in a top hat and a beard... carrying an axe and fighting a vampire. It's a little bit more out there than Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" biopic, to say the least.
Speaking to MTV in this exclusive behind-the-scenes clip, Benjamin Walker, who plays the reimagined Lincoln, downplayed the departure.
"He's the Abraham Lincoln we know; he's the hero," he told us. "In this context, he is also an action hero."
Walker certainly looks the part. Discussing the casting process, producer Jim Lemley said there was never any doubt. "Finding Abraham Lincoln is arguably the most complicated and difficult thing to do," he said. "Ben Walker came in and stood in front of us dressed as up as Abraham Lincoln and delivered the Gettsyburg Address and you just believed he wrote it.

History buffs and vampire enthusiasts get their first glimpse of the America’s 16th President in action in behind-the-scenes footage from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, the historical drama-cum-monster movie directed by Timur Bekmambetov. Simultaneously, a new poster for the film debuted at Imp Awards, showing the President sitting atop the Lincoln Memorial and brandishing an axe. After an introduction by Ben Walker, who plays Lincoln, producer Jim Lemley discusses how Walker’s rendition of the Gettysburg Address (“as if he wrote it”) earned him the role. Bekmambetov echoes Lemley’s praise for the actor, indicating he forgot what Walker

A new poster for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has arrived on the web, making a twisted homage to the Lincoln Monument, and Ben Walker, in costume, leads us on a tour behind the scenes in a new video clip.
I haven’t actually been to the Lincoln Monument but I’m pretty sure an ax isn’t one of Honest Abe’s accessories. Still, it’s a cool poster and you can’t really blame the architects of the monument because they probably weren’t aware of the 16th president’s other occupation as a vampire hunter.
In addition to the new poster, we also have a behind-the-scenes peek at the film, with Walker in full Lincoln garb leading the way. We also get to hear from Anthony Mackie, who plays Lincoln’s lifelong pal, William, who has received absolutely no promo love so far, so it’s nice to...

The politicians running for the Republican nomination are all doing their best to emulate Ronald Reagan, but it'd be a lot more fun if they were working on their best impersonations of Abraham Lincoln.... Vampire Hunter.
Ben Walker plays the blood sucker-killing 16th President of the United States in the upcoming big screen adaptation of the Seth Grahame-Smith novel; having already played a funky president in the Broadway rendition of "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson," Walker now packs a wooden stake and a mean sense of vengeance as Honest Abe. The film, directed by Timur Bekmambetov, tells the story of Lincoln's "secret life," which involves, from an early age, stalking down and eliminating as many vampires as he can.
And you thought he just defeated the Confederacy!
Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Mary Todd Lincoln), Anthony Mackie (Lincoln's friend William Johnson) and Dominic Cooper (Henry Sturges, his vampire mentor) co-star in the film,...

Abe's looking to chop something other than wood in this new image from Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov's adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith's Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. The ultra-stylish director made his mark in Russia with big budget blockbusters Night Watch and Day Watch before coming over to ply his trade in America and he wanted this one bad enough that he teamed up with Tim Burton - on board as producer - and pooled their resources to buy rights. Ben Walker stars as Lincoln and with the film due to release in June we can likely expect more soon....

Abraham Lincoln.s an absolute ass kicker in the latest photo from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, director Timur Bekmambetov.s stylish adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith.s mash-up novel. The photo comes courtesy of USA Today: Not to be confused with Steven Spielberg.s developing Lincoln project, Bekmambetov.s genre splice re-imagines our 16th president as a vampire slayer stomping through the Civil War-era United States. In the photo abaove, Ben Walker (as Lincoln) administers a painful beating to what we assume is an undead soldier. Can you think of anything cooler than Honest Abe laying the smack-eth down on a bloodsucker? It.s hard to tell from the angles of this picture, though, just how stylish the action in Vampire Hunter will get. Obviously, Bekmambetov helmed the over-the-top actioner Wanted with Angelina Jolie, as well as the visually revved-up Night Watch (and its crazy sequel). From the look of the...

Lucifer and Michael, God’s greatest archangels, share the bond of extraordinary friendship until God produces his greatest creation: Man. Unable to remain subservient to God if it means bowing down to humanity, Lucifer begins his dark descent and is cast out – only to plot his revenge.
