If you were hoping for Brad Pitt to make an appearance during Jonah Hill's second hosting stint on Saturday Night Live…you're out of luck. But the 28-year-old Moneyball star did team up with an A-lister during his opening monologue, right after he busted his own chops about his Oscar nom (and subsequent loss to best supporting actor winner Christopher Plummer). So, which celeb hit the stage to poke a little fun at Hill too? Tom Hanks, who brought along a faux Oscar statue just to rub in Hill's loss a little bit more. "You have mastered the role of a mature and caring man and I would like you to have this," Hanks says, passing Hill the statuette. "I'm just kidding....

In case you hadn't heard, Jonah Hill was nominated for an Academy Award for Moneyball and — spoiler alert! — lost to Christopher Plummer. Luckily, it doesn't look like the loss has gone to his head at all, but we can't say the same about the nomination itself.
In a behind-the-scenes video showing Hill's week at Saturday Night Live, Hill seemed to have a bit of an ego problem, as evidenced by his small glasses and large glasses. However, the real laughs came once Hill realized the error of his ways, thanks to a visit from two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks. Hanks stopped by to show off his statues (dubbed "Philly" and "Forest") and to...

At the Academy Awards, Best Picture might be the big prize, but the ones that both the winners and the audience have the most emotional connection to tend to be the acting prizes. Seeing a beloved star, or a fresh-faced newcomer, finally pick up a statue more often than not ends up leading the mainstream media coverage; it's always more moving than some producer's acceptance speech.
This year, we saw Meryl Streep finally win her third, and Christopher Plummer win his first, becoming the oldest actor ever to pick up a statuette. Those might have been predicted a while off by many. Meanwhile, two relative unknowns, Jean Dujardin and Octavia Spencer, also became Oscar-winners. Anyone who claims that they predicted those twelve months ago is a liar. Once again, the awards season can be guessed at, but it also springs up all kinds of surprises.

Tonight, the 2012 Oscars rewarded the talented, entertained the masses and reminded us all about the impeachable hotness of Jennifer Lopez. Seriously. Yikes. They also made us wince with humiliation on more than one occasion. In fact, our top 10 most embarrassing moments were…
10) Bradley Cooper‘s mustache: Bradley was looking a little like a male stripper this evening. Not that that’s the worst way for him to look…
9) Jennifer Lopez and Cameron Diaz’s booty shot: “Just take a chance!” Cammie laughed as she and JLo turned their bums to the audience during their Best Makeup presentation. We get it, ladies. There’s not a chance we weren’t going to love your butts.
8 ) Cirque de Soleil dancer biffs it hard: One unfortunate performer bit it during the troupe’s acrobatic dance performance. Unless his fall was intentional? You can never tell with those French Canadians…
7) Billy Crystal ripping on...

Each of the Lead and Supporting Best Actor nominees, save Christopher Plummer, met the press during the annual Oscar Nominees Luncheon at Los Angeles' Beverly Hilton on February 6. Double nominee George Clooney (Best Actor for "The Descendants," Best Adapted Screenplay for "Ides of March") was first up and had the room full of journalists in giggles within seconds. The man knows how to work it. Check out what the nominees had to say: (Here's the Actresses) Best Actor Nominees: Damien Bichir, "A Better Life"; George Clooney, "The Descendants"; Brad Pitt, "Moneyball"; Gary Oldman, "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy"; Jean...

Oh, boy, are the SAG Awards dull. It's pretty obvious that even the SAG Awards know that they are dull, since they're wise enough to limit the running time to two hours. Though boring, the SAG awards do provide more insight into the Oscar results than any other awards show. You see, the actors' branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences accounts for 1,183 of the 6000-plus member votes that decide the Oscars, making them overwhelmingly the largest branch of the Academy. And it's a safe bet that any actor distinguished enough to have Academy voting rights is a member of SAG. Based on that, here are five things that we learned from the SAG Awards. 1. Seventy-five percent of the Oscar acting awards are wrapped up. Jean Dujardin, Octavia Spencer and Christopher Plummer can go ahead and make room on their respective mantels or rumpus room shelves or...

We're trying 'Cover it Live' for tonight's event. We experimented yesterday and we'll see how it goes on an actual awards night. It allows a bit more interaction with any readers who are watching it as we are. I am a member of the Bfca which runs the "Critics Choice" awards though I am not in La for the event. Sniffle. Play your violins for me people!
So that you may laugh at me during the evening -- I've never claimed to be good at predicting the Bfca prizes -- my predictions are below the live blog window.

Bucking 2011-focused critical tradition thus far, which has divvied up the best picture prizes between The Tree of Life, The Descendants, Drive and The Artist. The National Society of Film Critics have gone with Lars von Trier's epic sci-fi depression metaphor Melancholia (Tfe's top ten list) for their Best Film. 2011 precursor season continues to be a delight with its wide spread of honors. We're especially pleased for Kirsten Dunst though their backing comes far too late to improve her neglible Oscar traction. But Oscar isn't everything. This is a beautiful way for the resurgent actress to close out 2011 which will undoubtedly be a pivotal year for her career.
The year began with the afterglow of terrific reviews for All Good Things (interview) and peaked with a Cannes win for Best Actress. Meanwhile with goodwill for her career finally restored, she lined up or filmed a completed work on a handful of new movies.

Hollywoodnews.com: Bennett Miller’s work on the baseball drama “Moneyball” largely went unheralded. Critics fawned over Brad Pitt’s multi-faceted performance as Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane, and sang the praises of Jonah Hill as he risked and stretched in his first non-comedic role. But repeat viewings of “Moneyball” show the effortless way Miller wove the parts together, filming what many called an “unfilmable” book and turning it into one of the finest baseball films in recent memory.
Finally, Miller is getting proper recognition. He will receive the 2011 Hollywood Director Award at he 15th annual Hollywood Film Awards, scheduled for Monday, Oct. 24, at the Beverly Hilton.
“With Moneyball, Bennett Miller has given us a beautiful film, from what many called an ‘unfilmable’ book, and we’re thrilled to honor him,” said Carlos de Abreu, founder and executive director of the Hollywood Film Awards and publisher of HollywoodNews.

The 2011 Toronto International Film Festival has filled out the rest of its slate, which consists of 268 features and 68 short films that will unspool next month. The fest announced that the likes of Brad Pitt (Moneyball), George Clooney (The Ides of March), and U2 (the Davis Guggenheim-directed docu From The Sky Down) will be among a long list of boldface names at the fest. Toronto added 13 films to its Masters Lineup, including the North American premiere of Gus Van Sant’s Restless, and a Discovery Programme lineup that includes the international debut of the Dee Rees-directed Pariah, which premiered in January at Sundance. The fest also announced its complete lineup for Mavericks. It includes a discussion with Christopher Plummer, who stars in Barrymore, the Erik Canuel-directed adaptation of Plummer’s Tony-winning performance as actor John Barrymore; a conversation between Deepa Mehta and Salman Rushdie; a conversation with Francis Ford Coppola,...
