Focus Features’ 15th anniversary celebration pulled out all the stops on Thursday night at La’s Greek Theatre with a fantastic party and screening of the Edgar Wright-Simon Pegg horror-comedy classic Shaun Of The Dead.
Billed as a “rom zom com” (romantic zombie comedy), the film follows the bloody funny adventures of underachiever Shaun (Simon Pegg) and his best mate Ed (Nick Frost) as they cope with a zombie invasion of North London and attempt to rescue Shaun’s girlfriend Liz (Kate Ashfield) and his Mum, Barbara (Penelope Wilton).
Thousands of fans, including Baby Driver co-star Jon Hamm, enjoyed the red-themed activities including a photo op, scary makeup applications, a character costume contest and dozens of zombies roaming the venue to frighten and entertain partygoers “like a drunk who’s lost a bet.”
After leading the audience in a zombiefied version of the Thx sound effect, Wright and Shaun co-star Lucy Davis,...

On June 20, 1975 a thriller from a relatively unknown filmmaker was unleashed on unsuspecting theatre goers. That summer saw the birth of the blockbuster, the likes of which had never been seen before in cinemas.
Shark films are seemingly all the rage now. Last year was The Shallows, 1999 was the super fun Deep Blue Sea, this past weekend was the release of 47 Meters Down and in 2018 comes the intriguing Meg from Warner Bros. Pictures.
The science fiction action thriller Meg, directed by Jon Turteltaub, stars Jason Statham (“Spy,” “Furious 7,” “The Expendables” films) and Chinese actress Li Bingbing and is slated for release on March 2, 2018.

One of the most beloved film franchises in Hollywood history – and arguably one of the best – is the Rocky franchise. After the original came out in 1976, fans could not get enough of the Italian Stallion and his brilliant and sometimes painful journey from zero to hero.
This weekend sees the release of Chuck, the story of small-time boxer Chuck Wepner, who in 1975 went 15 rounds with Muhammad Ali, and became the inspiration that led a young writer/actor named Sylvester Stallone to write Rocky.
Not only was Rocky a box office success, it went on to win 3 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director for John G.Avildsen. It also led to 6 sequels that kept fans cheering for Rocky for nearly 40 years.
Clearly everyone has their favorite Rocky movie, but here is our ranking, in order of favorites, of the films in the Rocky franchise. So agree, disagree, or even better,...

Barry Jenkins and Tarell Alvin McCraney poses backstage with the Oscar® for Adapted screenplay, for work on “Moonlight”
“This is not a joke. Moonlight has won Best Picture. “Moonlight,” Best Picture [He holds up the card announcing the winner]”
After the “Cinderella, little-movie-that-could, made for only $1.5M with zero stars,” won Best Picture at the 89th Oscars, Moonlight easily became our first pick of one of the many highlights from Sunday’s show.
Back in the pressroom director/producer Barry Jenkins said about the mixup, “No explanation. Things just happen, you know? But I will say I saw two cards. And so things just happen, you know? I did ‑‑ but ‑‑ and because ‑‑ I wanted to see the card to see the card. And Warren refused to show the card to anybody before he showed it to me. And so he did. In one of the biggest shocks in Academy Awards history, the final award of the night, Best Picture, was mistakenly announced.
Moonlight won best picture at the 89th Oscars after La La Land was erroneously reported announced as the winner.
Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway read La La Land right after Emma Stone won best actress for her role in the modern-day musical. After the cast took the stage, a producer for La La Land corrected things and said, “[Actually] ‘Moonlight’ is the winner … this is not a joke.”
The La Times exclusively spoke to best picture presenter Warren Beatty backstage after the history-making mistake that briefly awarded La La Land the honor instead of rightful winner Moonlight and the legendary director explained what happened onstage.
“I looked down at the card and thought, ‘This is very strange, because it says best actress.’ Maybe there was a misprint. I don’t know what happened.

Before the show even began at the Dolby Theatre, the red carpet was a shimmery sea of glamorous gowns, haute couture and best of all – movie stars! The Academy’s theme afterall was classic costumes of the silver screen.
With the 85th Academy Awards put to bed, we thought we’d have a look at the fashions of Oscar Sunday.
We begin with Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence…And The Back Of That Gown!
We loved the dress, the necklace, the hair, the makeup – so young and fresh! We saw the gown up close in the press room and words can’t describe the ornateness of the fabric. Absolutely an Oscar dress.
Halle Berry looked flawless in Versace. So different and not the usual style for the Academy Award winner.

Okay Oscar junkies (us included!), it’s that time of year once again, and it’s gonna be a barn-burner! 2012 was the year of Old Hollywood glory with the return of big studio films. Theatrical Trailer: the official theatrical piece, usually cut from the first (very long) cut of the picture or sometimes (if there is no first cut yet) from dailies (all the shot footage, including all the different takes and angles), maximum length of a trailer is two and a half minutes.
Teaser Trailer: A first, short theatrical preview piece (usually not longer than a minute and a half), cut from a few selected takes and scenes while the picture is still being shot.
For those of you who think it’s okay to show up to a film after the coming attractions – move along. No self-respecting movie geek would dare miss the previews. Fellow writer Melissa Thompson declared the Best Picture race over on November 13th when she went out on a ledge and moved the film right to the top of the Best Picture pile. “Academy voters will love this type of big production, grand scale slice of old Hollywood! Tom Hooper and the epic he.s apparently made! Les Miserables wins Best Picture.” Melissa might just be right. On the day after Thanksgiving, while many were out shopping on Black Friday, New York critics, writers, Guild and Academy members were seeing Oscar-winning director Tom Hooper’s dramatic musical for the first time at the Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center.

Wamg recently visited the newly opened Cars Land at Disney California Adventure, and boy did we have a rip-roaring good time in Radiator Springs!

Not only am I a fan of the film series, but I am also a fan of Johnny Depp’s work. He is absolutely fascinating to me.

With nomination morning looming, it’s time for our annual Oscar predictions on who will be invited to the party and who will be snubbed. So many wonderful, inspiring performances and films in 2010, but there are only 10 slots in the Best Picture category – even though it seems like 11 or even 12 are worthy of a spot. Wamg’s La-based writer, Melissa Thompson, will be at the Academy to listen to the announcement of the nominations. After The King’S Speech upset over The Social Network at the Producer Guild Awards on Saturday night, she and I gave some careful consideration on what surprises may be in store tomorrow morning.
So without further adieu, here’s our predictions:
Best Picture
Black Swan Blue Valentine The Fighter Inception The Kids Are All Right The King’S Speech The Social Network The Town True Grit Winter’S Bone
Watch out for: 127 Hours (has it already peaked?...
