2.10 Will Scarsdale Like Josh's Shayna Punim?
Before we get into talking about this week’s episode, let’s just take a moment to flail our arms around and squeal because Crazy Ex-Girlfriend has been renewed for a third season. Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!
The news actually broke last Sunday, after I’d filed my review of When Do I Get To Spend Time With Josh? That episode was filled with references to the show’s ratings struggles, and it all felt a bit like we might be spending our last hours with these characters, so the renewal announcement was kind of brilliantly timed, because it meant we actually didn’t have to spend very long worrying about it.

Prince Harry seems to be ready to follow in his older brother's footsteps - because he's ready to settle down and start a family! In a rare and very personal interview with Sky News on Monday, Harry revealed that he would love to bid farewell to the single life but he's just waiting for the right woman to come along. "There come times when you think now is the time to settle down, or now is not, whatever way it is, but I don't think you can force these things," he said. "It will happen when it's going to happen. Of course, I would love to have kids right now, but there's a process that one has to go through and . . . tours like this are great fun. Hopefully I'm doing all right by myself. It would be great to have someone else next to me to share the pressure. But,...

The British art duo of sticking-to-their-guns well-into-their-40s punks, Tim Noble and Sue Webster, have always put on an oddball sort of performance of being a couple. Perhaps it's not surprising that they worked for Gilbert & George back in the 1990s: Noble and Webster have gained notoriety for their heterosexual artistic codependency ever since. It's hard to not be charmed by their spotlit assemblages of trash, bones, taxidermied animals, or cast body-parts that cast shadows forming portraits of the couple (and maybe apt metaphors for coupledom). Probably their most self-abnegating/self-celebrating romantic gesture was 1997’s The New Barbarians, which they commissioned a sculptor from Madame Tussaud's to create: a dual self-portrait as australopithecines (pre-cavemen who walked upright and had our teeth but had brains the size of apes'). In 2008, Noble and Webster were married by their fellow Yba artist-friend Tracey Emin, which was also the year they last had a...

You know what’s a good hot-button topic for a show about a killer virus? Guantanamo Bay. Prince George couldn't contain his excitement during the baby's first Easter Sunday celebration at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia. Dressed casually in a blue striped polo and shorts, the little royal looked in awe at George, the bilby, a rabbit-like creature who is his namesake, as Kate Middleton and Prince William took turns doting on him. Donning a yellow dress, the duchess tried her best to hold George back from the endangered animal's enclosure while still letting him score a close-up view. The cutest moment came when Will tried to calm George with a sweet kiss on his head. Even before the family created adorable memories at the park, the zoo already held a special meaning for the royals: when George was born last July, Australia's government made a donation in his honor to fund the zoo's efforts to preserve and restore wildlife. Nearly nine months later, the bilby enclosure was named after him!

Last night, CW released the new promo/spoiler clip (below) for their upcoming "Hart Of Dixie" episode 17 of season 3, and it appears that things will get pretty crazy as Zoe comes up with the wacky idea that she must get Lemon and George back together, and more. The episode is titled, "A Good Run of Bad Luck." In the new episode 17, Zoe is going to be completely convinced that she and Lavon are cursed ,and that the only way to correct things, will be to correct the past. When Vivian's son asks Wade for some help, he will be happy to contribute. However, not everyone will be in agreement with his methods. After an unplanned encounter, George and Lemon will take every measure to stay away from each other. However it won't be very easy since they are now business partners. Timbaland will write and produce music for Empire, the hip-hop music drama from Lee Daniels and Danny Strong.
There seems to be plenty of strong reactions to last night‘s How I Met Your Mother, fueling a certain fan theory about how the series ends. I’m still rooting for the show ending in divorce, that’s the only way I can justify the way they’ve made Ted such a jerk this season.
Virginia Madsen has joined the cast of NBC’s revised Babylon Fields pilot. Madsen’s career choices have been oddly hit-and-miss (anyone remember Scoundrels?) I’m hoping this is one of her better shows.
TBS has ordered a pilot of Clippers, a comedy from Will & Grace creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick. The series follows a group who participated in different social circles in high school but now work together in a barber shop.

Kate Middleton is dripping in diamonds! The Duchess of Cambridge completed her first royal engagement of 2014, stepping out at the National Portrait Gallery Gala in London on Tuesday. She looked elegant in a deep blue silk Jenny Packham gown, adding a pop of bling with a beautiful diamond necklace she borrowed from Queen Elizabeth. She left her signature brunette locks down with loose curls."The Gallery's achievements are exceptional. They hold the most extensive collection of portraits in the world, and their unique and brilliant exhibitions never fail to inspire us all," she said in a speech at the event. "But, it is more than simply a world-renowned visitor's attraction – the Gallery's outreach and research programs makes it one of the leading centres for the important study into portraiture. I simply could not be more proud to be its Patron." "Thank you for being here tonight and showing your support,...

Downton Abbey, Season 4, Episode 1
Directed by David Evans
Written by Julian Fellowes
Aired Sunday, 5th of January on PBS
The surprise death of Matthew Crawley that closed the book on Downton Abbey’s third season not only left a gaping hole in the show’s role call, but it threw the door wide open for future storylines. However, Downton’s residents have notoriously hesitated when it comes to the prospect of change, and the same might be said for the show’s creator, Julian Fellowes, who indicates in the season four opener that rather than use this tragedy as a jumping off point for bold new directions, he prefers to retrace the characters’ steps over extremely familiar territory. But redundancy aside, this episode also has refreshing moments of truly progressive thinking and genuine tenderness.
Matthew’s absence is at the core of nearly all the goings-on of the fourth season premiere.

Suburgatory, Season 2, Episode 14: T-Ball & Sympathy
Directed by Phil Traill
Written by Patricia Been
Airs Wednesdays at 9:30pm Et on ABC
Episode 14 of the fantastic second season of Suburgatory doesn’t come close to matching the manic comedic beats of last week’s superb Valentine’s Day episode, but “T-Ball & Sympathy” still had plenty of laughs.
Tessa’s successful relationship with Ryan has her believing that she’s some kind of expert willing to dispense “A whole mess’a Ask Tessa.” I loved Jane Levy’s performance in this episode because of how idiosyncratic it was; she manages to make even Tessa’s faults and extreme quirks very endearing. Tessa’s newfound confidence (arrogance?) leads her to try and help Mr. Wolfe get the spark in his relationship with Chef Alan back. It’s clear that her advice has limits however, as Tessa and Lisa Shay catch Chef Alan...

Cinemax must be trying to get me to sign on with this new round of original programming. With a Melissa George super agent vehicle in Hunted, following the first Banshee teaser that looked like a lot of fun, I may just have to. Melissa George has a tendency to appear in good projects, both on television and the big screen, having appeared in the sublime Dark City, Steven Soderbergh’s The Limey, and Mulholland Drive. In TV you know her from Alias as Lauren Reed or from HBO’s In Treatment, which garnered George a Golden Globe nomination.
Hunted, as you can see by the poster debuted by TVline, puts George back in the role as an agent, one that thinks an attempt on her life is an inside job (basically, the plot for half of every spy movie or tv show ever made). The show is ran by former X-Files myth builder Frank Spotnitz,...

The you-know-what really hit the fan in "Hart of Dixie" when George found out about Lemon's dalliance with Lavon during the "Bachelorettes & Bullets" episode and called off their wedding. But just because his whole world has come crashing down doesn't mean his future is bleak.

George Lucas' "Red Tails," his action adventure about the Tuskegee Airmen, opens this weekend after twenty years in development. Featuring a cast and crew of black talent, one of the names on the project that has drawn the most eyebrows is co-writer Aaron McGruder, creator of the popular cartoon "The Boondocks." Throughout the print and television installments of "The Boondocks," McGruder courted acclaim and controversy equally. His biting satires and blunt opinions on everything from Ronald Reagan to corporate media to Tyler Perry, propelled him to forefront of liberal politics and African-American culture. One of his favorite targets was none other than George Lucas and the "Star Wars" franchise, a property he repeatedly took to task for becoming soullessly corporate and racially insensitive. In spite of his critiques, McGruder grew up as a die-hard fan of the film series, so he jumped at the chance to work on a...

Congrats to the Hollywood Foreign Press for giving The Artist the respect and attention it deserves. The film won three awards for Best Motion Picture -- Musical or Comedy, Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture -- Musical or Comedy (Jean Dujardin), and Best Original Score -- Motion Picture (Ludovic Bource). This charming, touching and sincere man-with-dog-meets-girl story achieves what we tell our film students at Nyu to do throughout their careers -- visualize the drama! What a superb homage to the silent film era. The last time I had the pleasure of a silent movie on the big screen was through The Silent Clowns Film Series, silentclowns.com, with live musical accompaniment by Ben Model. This organization has been keeping silent films alive with the public for years and I hope the popularity of The Artist brings this art form back in a big way. What a delight it was to watch,...

I was hoping my prediction from last week wouldn’t come true, but alas, the whole group breaking up premise was a fruitless red herring. At the end of this week’s episode, I found myself wondering if it was maybe necessary to motivate some of the action, but I can’t really see it as anything other then a lazy way to infuse some tension into the series. Unfortunately, the writers seem to have forgotten that there is built-in conflict within the very concept of the show. Jonathan is, after all, a detective and the finest moments from this season have come from three clueless stoners stumbling their way through solving mysteries. There was a little bit of that this week, but too much time was spen resolving the issues feverishly set-up last week.

“This is the scariest chase I ever saw since The French Connection.” That’s what a U.S. Supreme Court justice says in reference to videotaped evidence of a high speed police pursuit along George back roads, which has been appropriated by filmmaker Brian L. Frye for his gripping short film A Reasonable Man, embedded above. Another justice — or maybe the same, it’s hard for me to tell — later invokes a Chico Marx joke regarding the evidence: “Who are you going to believe? Me or your own eyes?” How about you watch the evidence yourself and decide the answer to that question?
Frye doesn’t give any background information in the film about the case that’s being argued, but it’s easy to figure it all out from the Supreme Court audio. (Or check the film’s Vimeo page as a cheat sheet.)

It's been a little while since we've even been bothered with upcoming infection sequel 'Quarantine 2: Terminal'. It's predecessor 'Quarantine', starring Jennifer Carpenter, was less that interesting in this reviewers eyes at least and so I'm already a little disheartened by the sequelisation. Zombies on a plane! This is the basic premise for the upcoming thriller Quarantine 2. This second film in the series will not be a remake of Jaume Balaguero and Paco Plaza's [Rec] 2 (like the first film) however, but something different. Quarantine 2 is attempting to arouse that innate fear of viruses and flu-bugs, that most of us have and first time director John Pogue will do this through the confining environment of air travel. Oxygen mask anyone? Check out the first trailer for this feature, with a DVD release date expected for later this year.
The synopsis for the film is here:
"The story picks up later that night from the previous film at Lax, as passengers board a flight to Nashville. When a passenger becomes violently ill with a mysterious rabies-like virus, the plane makes an emergency landing at a large metropolitan airport. Jenny (Mercedes Masohn), a heroic yet inexperienced flight attendant,...

'Quarantine 2: Terminal' will be landing soon and a batch of new stills have arrived online. The (required?) follow-up to the more than disappointing 2008 English-speaking remake of brilliant Spanish horror '[Rec]' is currenly in post-production and moves the action from the apartment building to a flight boarding at Lax. So you'll be happy to know it's not just a straight remake of '[Rec 2]'. Check out the new blood-stained stills below. If “30 Days of Night” creator Steve Niles has his way, he would really, really like to have Melissa George back to reprise her role as Stella Oleson in the sequel to the movie version of “30 Days”. Hey, he can dream, can’t he? Of course, the chances of George returning for the sequel is slim; not just because it’s a sequel to a moderate hit movie, but because the sequel, from all appearances, will be going direct-to-dvd, and what Hollywood agent/manager worth his salt is going to allow his client, who has a burgeoning movie career, to fall into the depths of direct-to-dvd hell? “30 Days of Night: Dark Days” would find Stella, now a published author, traveling the United States with a gang of vampire killers trying to lure the undead out of the darkness by exposing their existence. The movie sequel would follow that general premise of the Niles’ comics.
