Once again, celebrities went all-out for their Halloween party looks — and seemingly didn’t given a second thought to those SAG-AFTRA rules against specific pop culture costumes for striking actors (which even Saturday Night Live mocked). Below is a roundup of the most striking looks, from Halloween queen Heidi Klum’s incredible velvet peacock to Ed Sheeran’s murder doll Chucky, as well as Adele’s Morticia Addams and Zoë Kravitz as Mia Farrow’s character from Rosemary’s Baby.
Klum told The Hollywood Reporter her costume took six hours to put on. “I wanted to do something with a lot of people, so when we’re all crunched together in a certain position we become one,” she said. “And I thought of a peacock because you can fan out, and I wanted to do it with artists and acrobats.”

Film Independent is currently in the middle of a Matching Campaign to raise support for the next 30 years of filmmaker support. All donations make before or on September 15 will be doubled—dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000. To celebrate the campaign, we’re re-posting a few of our most popular blogs.
From Olivia Colman’s fraught sojourn to the Greek Isles in The Lost Daughter to Jessie Buckley’s terrifying trip up the M5 to the English countryside in Men and M. Night’s bummer beaches in Old, taking a little “me time” away from home is often the single biggest mistake any movie character could possibly make. Horror, psychological drama, comedy, mystery, rom-com. The genre hardly matters. In film, the simple act of taking a vacation is rarely the relaxing, restorative interlude one hopes that it might be, placing uneasy personalities in uncertain—even harrowing—circumstances.

There's always a risk when including a joke, gimmick, or punchline in a comedy that the audience won't respond well or find it funny, but featuring a long-running gag that continues throughout the story is one of the greatest cinematic gambles of all. If Biff Tannen getting covered in manure in the "Back to the Future" films didn't get a laugh, or Ted Striker's literal drinking problem in "Airplane!" fell flat, the constant appearance of the joke would only birth resentment from the audience. In the millennial favorite "Superbad," one of the most memorable scenes had to walk a tightrope line between humorous and offensive, forcing the entire team to go all-or-nothing on a visual gag.
The moment, in particular, involves Seth (Jonah Hill) dancing with a woman at a party who straddles his leg while grinding on him. When the two finish dancing, Seth is flagged down by some...

Fifteen years ago, Judd Apatow and Shauna Robertson produced a coming-of-age comedy script from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg about two teens, also named Seth and Evan, that the duo had been developing since their own teen years. The film was "Superbad," and the film became a smash hit thanks to the snappy script, the unwavering friendship of Seth (Jonah Hill) and Evan (Michael Cera), and the relatable high school hijinks the two get into while trying to finally prove that they can be cool once and for all. Directed by Greg Mottola, the film is largely considered one of the great teen comedies of the new millennium.
"Superbad" has remained a popular mainstay over the last decade and a half, due in large part to how endlessly quotable it is. I'll fully admit that I say, "Calm down, Greg. It's soccer," anytime I see someone unnecessarily wilding out online...

The SAG-AFTRA Foundation announced today that it has raised more than $7.8 million dollars in contributions for its Covid-19 Relief Fund for SAG-AFTRA artists in dire need.
On March 16, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation, along with the SAG-AFTRA Motion Picture Players’ Welfare Fund, launched a Covid-19 Relief Fund for SAG-AFTRA members. Since activating the Fund, the Foundation has already given over $5.1 million in emergency financial assistance to more than 5,484 SAG-AFTRA artists and their families with hundreds of applications still in process and thousands of performers still in need.
For over 35 years, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation has been a vital resource for SAG-AFTRA performers seeking emergency financial assistance. But due to what has amounted to a near industry-wide shutdown, thousands of performers have been unable to work, and many second and third survival jobs have also been eliminated during the crisis.

Tom Hanks, one of the first celebrities to contract the coronavirus, is urging his fellow actors to contribute to the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s Covid-19 Relief Fund, which said Monday it has raised more than $7.8 million in contributions to aid SAG-AFTRA members in dire financial need.
“The devastating effects of Covid-19 are in our own backyard, and we’re doing what we can for our colleagues and collaborators who need help,” said Hanks, a member of the foundation’s Actors’ Council who along with his wife, Rita Wilson, have played major roles in the fundraising efforts. Like Hanks, Wilson tested positive for the virus in March while he was filming Elvis, the Elvis Presley biopic, in Australia.

Love at first sight might happen for some, but for Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard, it took more time. In a candid interview with Today, Kristen opened up about how she and her husband of five years met and went from having no connection to falling for each other hard.
"The producer of Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Shauna Robertson, who's Judd Apatow's previous producing partner, had a birthday dinner," Kristen said. "Like, 10 people, maybe less, at a sushi restaurant. And I had just gotten out of a long-term relationship two months prior. And in retrospect, I realize [Dax] had just gotten out of a long relationship. We were sitting at a table. The only thing I remember is that he talked so much."
Kristen continued to quip about Dax's talkative side before adding, "I didn't know who he was. I'm like, 'Is that one of the guys from Jackass or something?...

"Like you, and like most Americans, we have had Enough. We have had enough of seeing unthinkable tragedies happen and nothing being done," reads a letter signed by the stars and organized by the Brady Campaign and Center to Prevent Gun Violence. "This level of depravity should rattle anyone with a conscience. We have seen how it has visibly."
The letter names recent mass shootings – from Sandy Hook to San Bernardino – as evidence that action needs to be taken.

The first and most important thing that happened as a result of the staging of "Sticks and Stones" at the Met Theater as part of the Act One Festival was that Scott Swan and I got our first agent. Barbara Baruch worked for Ambrosio/Mortimer, a smaller boutique agency at the time, and from the moment we met her, she seemed like what I imagined an agent to be. She was nurturing, she was a cheerleader, she was a ballbuster, and she was always, always, always in our corner. Our time with her was unfortunately too short, and by the time the agency imploded in accusations of embezzlement, we were already repped by Gersh out of New York. Barbara was first, though, and she was the first one to start pushing people to come see our show and to read our work. The strangest thing about those early days is...

Emma Stone and Michael Keaton opened the 71st annual Venice Film Festival with their premiere of Birdman last night (August 27).
Stone, sporting a newly cropped hairdo, looked elegant in an emerald green Valentino couture gown, while co-star Keaton arrived in a black tuxedo.

The Alejandro González Iñárritu-directed drama sees Keaton as a washed-up actor, famous for playing iconic superhero Birdman, which he has long since outgrown.

It’s hard to stay out of the public eye when you’re a celebrity, but these Hollywood stars managed to keep the name of their babies a secret — at least, for a bit. Check out our gallery of secret celeb baby names!
For living so much of her life in the public eye, we were shocked that Kim Kardashian‘s baby name wasn’t officially revealed until six days after she gave birth. There was even a fake baby name floating around the Internet — Kaidence Donda West. But Kim and Kanye West proved they could keep a secret (at least for a little bit) when their baby’s birth certificate was leaked on June 21 — six days after she was born.

Baby North West’s official birth certificate was first revealed on June 21, and shows her official name as North West — but with no middle name.

While the world (or America at least) is agog with the mighty Muppets back in cinemas there’s another project from Nicholas Stoller and Jason Segel on the way, and today we’ve got the first look at a trailer and poster for The Five-Year Engagement.
The film is produced by Judd Apatow, Shauna Robertson, and Rodney Rothman and is perhaps a spiritual sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall, something which comments made by Segel and Stoller during the long gestation period have suggested. Note the poster proudly proclaims it to be from the producers of Bridesmaids so expect people to flock.
Segel is joined by Emily Blunt, Chris Pratt, Alison Brie and Rhys Ifans in the story which centres around an engaged couple trying to get married.

The studio system is long gone and as the Hollywood powerhouses reign supreme over the box office, smaller production companies fall by the way side. Yet innovative filmmakers are currently redefining the industry and creating powerful companies of their own, ones which could change cinema for the better as well as possibly competing with these Hollywood heavyweights in the future.
Due to Pixar’s success as a family orientated studio from the mid 90’s onwards, others are catching on to this ultra collaborative notion. Pixar has a large but focused family of filmmakers which work together to produce perfect movies. We’ve all seen glimpses inside the studio with its fuss ball tables and arcade games; they promote creativity and work together for the greater good. There are no egos at Pixar just a unit pushing forward as a team.

Edward Norton and longtime girlfriend, producer Shauna Robertson, are engaged, according to the NY Post.
The Post writes that Norton proposed to Robertson while in India three weeks ago, one of the only press reports of their decision to tie the knot. The story reports the engagement as a matter of fact, featuring a quote from Norton's former girlfriend, Courtney Love, about her reaction to the news.
"Wow, it's about time. He's 41, they've been together for six years," Love said. "He needs to have babies. I wonder what kind of ring he got her? He bought me a ruby."
Last year, Love, who dated Norton in the late 90's, said that he has helped serve as an intermediary between herself and daughter Frances Bean, with whom she was barred from communicating.
Robertson is a prominent comedy producer, teaming with Judd Apatow on his acclaimed comedies, including "Knocked Up," "Superbad" and "Pineapple Express.

Courtney Love's piehole isn't doing Edward Norton any favors. In seemingly innocuous comments to the New York Post, the Hole frontwoman congratulated her old beau on his engagement to longtime gal-pal, Shauna Robertson. Trouble is, we're not even sure the Oscar-nominated actor is betrothed—and if he is, he's keeping the news to himself. What gives? "Wow, it's about time. He's 41, they've been together for six years. He needs to have babies," Love told the newspaper at a New York Cinema Society screening of Meek's Cutoff. "I wonder what kind of ring he got her? He bought me a ruby." Hmmm...miss him much, Court? Alison Brie is joining Five-Year Engagement for Universal, the upcoming relationship comedy starring Jason Segel and Emily Blunt.
The rom-com we heard it last November hasn’t been much movement on Judd Apatow‘s “Five Year Engagement” lately. We learned that Jason Segel and Emily Blunt would be playing a duo whose five years relationship is chronicled in the comedy, directed by Nicholas Stoller (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) but that’s old news already. What’s new is that Community’s Alison Brie is on board, set to play Blunt’s sister in the flick which should bring the same hilarity and allure of Stoller and Segel’s last collab.
Brie told Variety that she’s a major fan of Stoller and Segel’s creation in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” which Apatow and Shauna Robertson produced.
It really is one of my favorite films ever. I’ve watched it at least 20 times.

With co-founders Edward Norton, Shauna Roberson, and his brother Jeffro, Wolfe is on a mission to put the fun back in fundraising.
When he was 21, Robert Wolfe started Moosejaw, an outdoor apparel store, based on one principle: fun. Now, 18 years later, Wolfe and the co-founders of Crowdrise are basing an entire fundraising platform on that very same principle. Speaking on behalf of those co-founders--Shauna Robertson, Edward Norton, and Wolfe's brother Jeffro--Wolfe insists it’s all about "nonsensical marketing. It’s the way we can have impact in the philanthropic space."
Laughs aside, the Crowdrise community has become a serious fundraising force by eschewing the traditional model of philanthropy--no $500 per plate formal fundraising dinners here--and going straight for an easy, engaging way to make micro-donations.

From the moment he first saw "Raiders of the Lost Ark," Adam Scott knew he wanted to be an actor. "I watched Harrison Ford onscreen and said, 'That looks like fun. Not only is he running from boulders; he's so funny," the now-37-year-old Scott recalls. "Basically, all I still want to do is run from boulders." Until his career as an action hero takes off, Scott will have to be satisfied with his status as the next big thing. After holding his own as Will Ferrell's Dane Cook–loving sibling in "Step Brothers," Scott stole scenes as a sleazy agent on "Eastbound and Down" and romanced Amy Adams in "Leap Year." He recently joined the cast of the NBC comedy "Parks and Recreation" as a potential love interest for Amy Poehler and will be seen "riding a Jet Ski and carrying a shotgun on my back" (but no boulders) in August's "Piranha 3-D.
