Actor Adam Scott, who was recently seen by some movie-goers in Madame Web, has chosen the project he wants to make his feature directorial debut with – and while Scott is probably best known for his performances in comedy projects like Knocked Up, Step Brothers, Parks and Recreation, Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later, Ghosted, and Party Down, he’s not going to be directing a comedy. Instead, his first directorial effort is a revenge thriller called Double Booked, which he’ll also be starring in… and Deadline reports that he has chosen a great supporting cast to surround himself with. His co-stars in this one are Sterling K. Brown (American Fiction), Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), and Alexandra Daddario (The White Lotus).

With the resolution of the Hollywood writers strike in September, hopes were high for a return to business as usual in bustling Budapest, host to such recent high-profile productions as Yorgos Lanthimos’ Venice sensation and Oscar frontrunner “Poor Things.” But the sudden breakdown in negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP in early October dampened that enthusiasm.
“We were starting to get momentum back, which was leading us to believe that we would be opening up offices on new shows in early November, on the assumption that the strike would be over by the end of October,” says Adam Goodman of Mid Atlantic Films, which is currently servicing Peacock and Sky’s spy series “The Day of the Jackal.”

Clint Eastwood was already a notable movie star before directing his first film, "Play Misty for Me" in 1971. In 2021, Eastwood helmed his 40th film as a director, the gentle rescue movie "Cry Macho," in which he also starred. Eastwood would be a Hollywood legend even if he had never chosen to get into acting. Perhaps dismaying to the man's many fans, Eastwood recently announced that he will direct one final film before retiring for good. Eastwood's final film will be distributed by Warner Bros., the studio that has handled the director's entire filmography since "Gran Torino" in 2008. Eastwood's retirement is likely due to his age — he will be 93 in May — although one might hear the words of Warner Bros./Discovery CEO David Zaslav ringing in their ears when he was reported to say that he owes no filmmaker any favors and that Eastwood's films all tend to lose money.

Clint Eastwood is turning 93 this year, but the four-time Oscar winner isn’t slowing down. The “Unforgiven” and “Million Dollar Baby” director has set his 40th feature film, “Juror #2,” IndieWire has confirmed.
Warner Bros., which has distributed all of Eastwood’s films since 2008’s “Gran Torino,” will re-team with the director for the thriller, a source confirmed to IndieWire. In addition, a source confirmed that offers have been sent to Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette to star in the picture, though neither deal is final.
Set in the courtroom of a murder trial, “Juror #2” focuses on one of the jurors as he realizes during the case that he killed the victim in a driving accident, and desperately attempts to get the defendant off without going to jail himself. Deadline reports that should they be cast, Hoult would play the juror, while Collette will play prosecuting attorney in the trial.

Clint Eastwood — the legendary actor-director behind Unforgiven, Million Dollar Baby, and Bridges of Madison County — is gearing up to make yet another film for his longtime studio home, Warner Bros.
The 92-year-old is in the process of casting Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette in Juror No. 2., a legal drama that is set up at Warners. After months of trying to find the right combination of actors and weeks of talks with Hoult and Collette, official offers to the actors went out Thursday.
Juror No. 2 will take place during a murder trial and follows a juror, to be played Hoult, who realizes that he may have caused the victim’s death. He must decide whether to manipulate the jury to save himself, or reveal the truth and turn himself in. Collette would play the prosecutor.

Even at 92, Clint Eastwood isn’t ready to slow down as he has set the thriller Juror #2 as his next film, with Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette in negotiations to star. While it isn’t official, sources also add that with schedules and budget figured, Warner Bros. — Eastwood’s longtime studio home — is close to officially greenlighting the film. Jonathan Abrams penned the script. Adam Goodman, Matt Skiena, Tim Moore and Jessica Meier will produce.
The pic is set during a murder trial where one of the jurors slowly realizes he killed the victim in a reckless-driving accident and tries to save the defendant without incriminating himself. Ellen Goldsmith-Vein and Jeremy Bell will exec produce.
In typical Eastwood fashion, the Oscar winner had been weighing several scripts and in recent months zeroed in on Juror #2. He began having talks with A-list talent to star, finally landing on Hoult as the...

Few could have predicted the global disruptions of the past two years, with the coronavirus pandemic continuing to claim lives and upend livelihoods and the war in Ukraine – now in its second month – sparking a crisis whose human, political and economic tolls have yet to be fully reckoned with. For most of the world’s screen industries, forced to adapt on the fly to unforeseen and often unprecedented events, simply staying afloat has somehow come to feel like a triumph.
Yet despite the challenges and lingering uncertainty, the Hungarian industry is riding high. The impressive Oscar haul of Legendary and Warner Bros.’ “Dune,” which filmed in Hungary and won six Academy Awards at Sunday night’s ceremony, is just the latest validation of a booming biz that is only moving from strength to strength.

If Sunday night’s Oscar ceremony were a validation for Legendary Entertainment and Warner Bros., whose $165 million gamble on Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi tentpole “Dune” paid off in the form of six Academy Awards, it was no less a triumph for the Hungarian film industry, which hosted the blockbuster throughout much of production in 2019 and 2020.
The trophy haul, which included an Oscar for production design duo Patrice Vermette and Hungary’s Zsuzsanna Sipos, further cemented the status of an industry that last year broke records with $650 million in total production spend.
Herb Gaines, Legendary’s head of physical production, says the country ticked all the boxes to host a production on such a massive scale. “We were looking for a production base that could support a film of this magnitude as well as be logistically feasible for access to our desert location needs,” says Gaines, citing the convenience of a...

Exclusive: HBO Max is not moving forward with half-hour family comedy pilot Camp Friends (working title).
I hear production on the pilot, which was greenlighted late last year, was paused over positive Covid tests and never resumed. Restarting production after a shutdown is very costly, especially for a modestly budgeted half-hour pilot for Camp Friends. Instead, I hear the producers supplemented the completed footage with animation and storyboards. The pilot was delivered to HBO Max executives who ultimately decided not to pick it up to series.
Camp Friends was written by Lauren Herstik and produced by Adam Goodman for Invisible Narratives and Jax Media.
The comedy revolves around four lifelong “camp friends” during their highly anticipated counselor-in-training summer. When a mysterious new girl arrives late from another camp, the girls’ plan to have The Best Summer Ever gets thrown into disarray. Camp Friends live 10 months for two. Now that things are different,...

The art of world building is pushing several international films to the forefront this awards season, and Hollywood has sweeping foreign visuals, borderless below-the-line talent and coveted tax breaks to thank for it.
From setting the period in “Belfast,” “Spencer” and “House of Gucci,” to high-action romps in “No Time to Die” and “The Matrix Resurrections,” and arid mastery in “Dune” and “The Power of the Dog,” these overseas productions are expected to be highly recognized at the Academy Awards.
“International contenders will only serve to enhance craft categories this year,” says Dana Salston, whose Intrinsic Agency specializes in below-the-line talent. “International head of departments have been in-demand for 20-plus years, and that is only increasing. The industry is truly a global marketplace now, and certainly this year has shown a massive increase in the need for international talent.”

When thousands of Florida seniors were waiting in long lines for a Covid-19 vaccine this past January, Fox News and Gov. Ron DeSantis were plotting to broadcast a public vaccination event exclusively on the network in order to boost the governor’s image. And according to an exposé by the Tampa Bay Times, which obtained emails between the network and governor’s office, that is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the cozy relationship between DeSantis and Fox News.

The latest in our series of writers sticking up for reviled films is a defense of the ‘toyetic’ action fantasy flop that puts monsters in … trucks
There is nothing pure about Monster Trucks. It is not a work of art born from some noble truth. It is a product – brightly-colored content meant to generate toys. The idea originated around 2013 when Adam Goodman, then president of Paramount’s Motion Picture Group, watched his four-year-old son playing with toy trucks. By 2014, Paramount issued a press release calling their new title Monster Trucks a “movie which has great toyetic appeal.” This unapologetic ploy to sell plastic made for an ignoble start to Monster Trucks, and things wouldn’t improve. The general concept – monster trucks that have real, but friendly, monsters inside them – didn’t inspire much confidence outside of “toyetic appeal,” either.

Nine months after launching its new theatrical distribution operation, Japanese pay TV broadcaster Wowow has made its first theatrical film acquisition, closing an all-rights deal for pandemic thriller Songbird, starring Kj Apa, Sofia Carson, Craig Robinson, Bradley Whitford, Peter Stormare, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Walter Hauser and Demi Moore.
Produced by Michael Bay and Adam Goodman, and directed by Adam Mason, the dystopian (but all too real) film is set in 2022 as another pandemic ravages the world and its cities. The film zones in on a handful of people as they navigate the obstacles hindering society: disease, martial law, quarantine, and vigilantes.
Screenplay was written by Adam Mason and his writing partner Simon Boyes during the early part of the lockdown. The film was among the first features to shoot in Los Angeles after lockdown restrictions were eased.

Songbird producer Invisible Narratives is in development on a comedic feature starring TikTok and YouTube creator Larray.
In the yet-to-be-titled feature, Larray is set to play a fictionalized version of himself. When he accidentally time-travels back to 1992, he goes from being recognized on every street corner in Los Angeles to a time before the world had ever heard of a smartphone. Without his social apps and online clout, he must discover his “analogue instincts” to survive the ’90s and return back to 2021.
News of the project, which is currently seeking a director, follows the launch of Invisible Narrative’s horror film Crimson.
Larri “Larray” Merrit has a reach of over 29M+ followers across platforms. His latest music video, Cancelled, featuring Addison Rae and James Charles, racked up 21M+ views within days and landed him his first Billboard Hot 100 Hit.
Adam Goodman’s Invisible Narratives recently sold pandemic thriller Songbird to STX.

The horror film “Crimson,” the first project for the new studio Invisible Narratives and the esports streamers FaZe Clan, represents one possible future for movies: a marriage of storytelling with authentic content from influencers like the FaZe Clan who have the attention and trust of young people online. When Brian Awadis, better known as Twitch star FaZe Rug of the FaZe Clan, bought a house this summer, he also broadcast the process of shopping and moving to his 31 million followers across all his social channels. What his audience didn’t know at the time is that his house would also serve as the setting for “Crimson.” But “Crimson” wasn’t just a stunt: FaZe Rug really did buy a new house, and his fans have been glued to his every move. But woven within that real-life domestic drama was the fictional story that became “Crimson.” Without knowing it, FaZe Rug...

A mutated strand of coronavirus called Covid-23 wreaks havoc on the world in “Songbird,” produced by Michael Bay.
On Thursday, the first trailer for the pandemic thriller showed a world trapped in lockdown for four years, reaching 8.4 million deaths in a single year. The movie takes place in 2024 and stars K.J. Apa and Sofia Carson, who play a couple separated by the pandemic and living under martial law. Apa’s character claims to be immune from the virus, which may help him as he searches for his girlfriend, who is forced to evacuate her apartment after her neighbor contracts the virus.
“It’s a dystopian, scary world, but it’s a romantic movie about two people who want to be together, but they can’t,” director Adam Mason told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s ‘Romeo and Juliet,’ but they’re separated by her front door and by the virus.”

The U.K. is Europe’s top destination for Hollywood productions, with $3.75 billion spent on movies and high-end TV last year, followed by Hungary and Czech Republic.
Countries including Romania, Poland, Belgium, Ireland, Bulgaria and Malta are upping the ante in the contest to bring international shoots to their studios. France, Germany, Spain and Italy all have vibrant production sectors too, largely underpinned by local-language production, and boosted by orders from streamers, but with an eye to attract Hollywood projects.
Incentives are highly competitive with U.K.’s set at 25%, Hungary at 30%, and Czech Republic at 20%, for example. Visual effects is a growth area with France offering an extra 10% for VFX on top of its 30% rate. However, just as important is the availability of top-notch crew and production facilities, which is one of the reasons U.K., Hungary and Czech Republic still lead the way. The U.K. is in...
