There used to be a time when watching Lifetime movies was my favorite pastime. This movie called Fatal Fixer Upper by David DeCoteau has a main antagonist named Josh, played by Duke Van Patten, who has something called Old, not the age-old kind, but it stands for Obsessive Lover Disorder. It’s pretty creepy because it means he’s way too obsessed with this woman named Vivian (Jasmine Aivaliotis). So, here’s the deal: Josh sells his house to a couple, Vivian and Ryan (Philip McElroy), after his fiancée, Catherine (Vera Lee), calls it quits. But from that point on, Josh’s fixation is all on Vivian, the new buyer of his house. He’s doing all sorts of crazy stuff to try to make her his, like spying on her with hidden cameras he has set up in his old house. Will Vivian and Ryan catch on to what’s happening?...

Writer Adam Rockoff reteams with director David DeCoteau on a new Lifetime thriller that bears a striking resemblance to this month’s earlier title, Million Dollar Lethal Listing.
In Fatal Fixer Upper, Vivian (Jasmine Aivaliotis) and Ryan (Philip McElroy) are a young married couple preparing to purchase their dream home. Just like in Million Dollar Lethal Listing, the deal is too good to be true: the house is wildly underpriced, the owner is looking for a quick sale, and they’re asked to make a hefty cash deposit.
Unlike the former title, though, there’s no mystery about who the villain is in Fatal Fixer Upper. The film opens with a classic Lifetime cold open that immediately establishes that there is a bad man keeping an eye on things. His identity is quickly revealed as Josh Thomas (Duke Van Patten), the home’s original owner and the person spying on...

The latest Lifetime thriller from director David DeCoteau, Million Dollar Lethal Listing, is a topical look at the dangerous financial implications of home ownership, unequal incomes, and trusting your partner.
It’s clear early on that engaged couple Becca (Morgan Bradley) and Tom (Jon Briddell) don’t have a great relationship. She’s taken it upon herself to find them a home in between working “freelance” (in what field? It’s unclear) while he spends long hours at his law firm in an effort to make partner.
Becca’s friend Annie (Ciarra Carter) and her lawyer Meghan (Jackée Harry) are both wary of Tom. Meghan is pressing Becca to get a pre-nup because it makes financial sense to protect her sizeable half a million-dollar inheritance in the event of a divorce. Annie, meanwhile, doesn’t like how Becca loses her agency around her betrothed or how responsible she is for...

I think I need to brush up on my eighties horror knowledge and film watching because I realised when I had the chance to watch Nightmares In A Damaged Brain that I had barely even heard about it and had no idea what the movie was actually about. In fact, outside of the big hitters I haven’t watched as many as I should have, and the ‘video nasties’ are a good place to start.

One wouldn’t think that a schlocky slasher series about killer puppets would produce more than a dozen films across three decades, let alone sequels that are still being discussed today, yet here we are getting deep in the weeds over the straight-to-video sequel bliss that is Puppet Master 4. Puppet Master is easily the most successful property to come out of Charles Band’s Full Moon Features, best known for movies like Castle Freak and Subspecies, as well as more low-hanging fruit like The Gingerdead Man and The Evil Bong series. Puppet Master falls comfortably between these two extremes. After a satisfying initial trilogy that chronicles the grandiose revenge scheme of a persecuted toymaker, Puppet Master–like many long-running horror series–is forced to ask, “What’s next?”
In Puppet Master’s case, the franchise strangely pivots towards the rehabilitation of Blade, Leech Woman, Six-Shooter, and the rest of these...

Writer/director Romano Scavolini’s 1981 film Nightmare, a.k.a. Nightmares in a Damaged Brain, stirred up a lot of controversy when it was released. It was given an X rating in the US, banned as a video nasty in the UK, and a couple distribution executives did prison time for putting the film out in the UK. Plus special effects legend Tom Savini, who is credited on the film, denied having any involvement with it. And now Severin Films is honoring the movie with a three disc 4K Uhd release! Copies will be available for pre-order on the Severin webstore when their summer sale launches this Friday.
Rue Morgue reports that Nightmares in a Damaged Brain “will be presented in a never-before-seen 4K 1.85:1 scan of the most complete version ever assembled. The region-free discs will come packaged in a limited-edition slipcover with reversible wrap, plus a booklet written...

The controversial 1981 horror movie Nightmare – also known as Nightmares in a Damaged Brain – is coming back to life on 4K Uhd from Severin Films, Bloody Disgusting can exclusively report this afternoon. The film has been scanned from the internegative and various foreign print sources to create the most complete version ever assembled!
Severin is also publishing a 193 page novelization of the film, written by Rue Morgue’s Michael Gingold, based on the original screenplay by Romano Scavolini.
It’s been called “graphic and unapologetic” (SexGoreMutants), “brutally effective” (Screen Rant) and “a forgotten classic” (Horror News). It remains the most reviled, controversial and misunderstood genre film of the ‘80s. Now “the most repulsive, degrading and horrifying movie ever made” (NY Daily News) can be experienced like never before.

Back in 2019, it was announced that Full Moon was developing a sequel to the 1988 cult classic Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama (watch it Here), with Slimeball director David DeCoteau returning to the helm for Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-o-Rama 2 and co-directing the film with legendary scream queen Brinke Stevens. Stevens played a character named Taffy in the original film. The sequel was slowed down a bit by the pandemic, but production is officially underway now – and while it’s not clear if DeCoteau still has a hand in the project, we can say for sure that Stevens is directing the film. She confirmed this herself on her Facebook page!

Michael M. Bilandic's Project Space 13 is exclusively showing on Mubi in many countries starting December 10, 2021 in the series The New Auteurs, as well as in the series Anarchy in NYC: Michael M. Bilandic's Streetwise Cinema.Project Space 13When it comes to contemporary cinema, there arises the question of how to depict the breakneck present—in particular, a volatile and fast-paced internet culture indebted to the techno-apocalyptic strides of the 21st century. Some films confront it obliquely with the occasional meme reference or on-screen text, while others avoid it entirely by setting themselves in a world free of automated contrivance. A third increasingly prevalent tactic is to augur the dangers of “the online.” Films concerned with social media, in particular, almost uniformly denounce such platforms as soulless and exploitative. The films of Michael M. Bilandic offer a worthwhile alternative to this nihilism by embracing the Internet—and even the Post-Pandemic—Age with open arms.

In “Stiletto,” a 1969 release from Joseph E. Levine’s Avco Embassy Pictures, Cesare Cardinali (Alex Cord) enjoys a jet-setting lifestyle rivaling and maybe even surpassing those of his real-life contemporaries in the “Playboy” era. He resides in a lavish Midtown Manhattan penthouse, hobnobs with movie stars and minor European royalty at red-carpet parties, races cars on the international circuit, and romances two beautiful girlfriends. But he’s increasingly uneasy about what he has to do to keep the money coming. On the books, he earns his millions through a lucrative importing business. In reality, he’s on the Mafia’s payroll through his patron, crime boss Ettore Matteo (Joseph Wiseman). Whenever a particularly important murder contract is ordered, Cesare is called in to do the job. His specialized tool is a medieval stiletto, and although he’s good at what he does,...

Vivica A. Fox’s “The Wrong Valentine” premieres Thursday, marking the star and producer’s 25th film in Lifetime’s “The Wrong” franchise. And 25 installments into her made-for-tv series, Fox says there is only one thing she could possibly do in a “Wrong” film that wouldn’t be right.
“I get to cast myself in characters that normally Hollywood wouldn’t even give me an opportunity to play,” Fox, who has produced all 25 “Wrong” films and has starred in 22 of them, told TheWrap. “I’ve played a detective, a principal, a mom. The only thing David DeCoteau, the director, won’t let me play is the villain, because I’ve always got to deliver that catchy phrase. ‘Well it looks like you’ve got the wrong cheerleader’ or ‘You’ve got the wrong Valentine’ or ‘You’ve got the wrong Mr. Right.’ And people are like, ‘I can’t wait...

Directed by Ellen Cabot (aka David DeCoteau), Beach Babes From Beyond is technically not a Full Moon film, as it is in fact one of the earliest releases from Charles Band’s 1993 created Torchlight label which specialised in genre-tinged softcore porn comedies. Vivica A. Fox fans can get their fix during this holiday season with Ion Television’s newly announced movie marathon “A Very Vivica Christmas.” On Tuesday, the broadcaster said it will feature an all-day slate of the actress’ recent Ion holiday flicks on December 6, leading to the premiere of her latest holiday feature Christmas Together.
The lineup includes A Wedding for Christmas, A Husband for Christmas, A Christmas Cruise and Christmas Matchmakers. Fox not only appears in the holiday titles but also produced them alongside Hybrid.
The marathon will be capped by the premiere of Christmas Together, also starring and produced by Fox. Directed by David DeCoteau and written by Jay Cipriani, it follows a brokenhearted New York painter (Anna Marie Dobbins) and a West Coast widower ( Marc Herrmann) as they find their way together for the holiday season, thanks to the latter’s young daughter (Rylie Coe) and her innocent scheme.

Marcus Hobson’s body trembled as he felt an external power take control. “Is this what enlightenment feels like?” Nothing’s been the same since the night he met Jaspen Frasier, the president of Omega Alpha Psy. Marcus never saw himself pledging. But that all changed with a single touch, as Jaspen confided in Marcus the secrets of his success. This holy ointment, was god’s, or the devil’s, gift to man to reclaim eternal power. The veil that set him back had been lifted, everything was within his grasp. Exhilarated, he wanted to be free to possess whatever his will desired. He basked in his beauty. His modesty had withered away, he felt free, free of the confines of his mind and soul. What mind? What soul? Little did Marcus know that those were withering away as well.

When people think of VHS-era scream queens three names come to mind: Linnea Quigley, Michelle Bauer and Brinke Stevens – the threesome of fear that sliced and seduced a generation of gorehounds and whose greatest hits can finally be seen in HD in this set, The Best of 80s Scream Queens, which comes from the schlock-lovers at 88 Films. This charming and chilling collection, perfect for addicts of excessive violence, gratuitous nudity and breathtaking bloodshed, all stem from the hand (and mind) of legendary director David DeCoteau and each nostalgic pot-boiler is packed with an enthusiastic fondness for breast-baring babes and skull-bashing set pieces!

One of the most popular films of the century thus far, although perhaps not having anything to do with standard quality metrics, is Tommy Wiseau’s The Room. Released nearly 15 years ago, the oddity has become a cult hit, garnering regular midnight screenings and a fanbase like few others. Now, the story of how it came to be has been made into a film by none other than James Franco.
The Disaster Artist recently came to Tiff and ahead of a December release from A24, the first full trailer has arrived. The making-of The Room tale is seen through the eyes of Greg Sestero (Dave Franco), who served as a line producer on the film and played Mark, of “oh, hi Mark” fame.

Filmmaker, actor and underwear designer Tommy Wiseau became something of a cult phenomenon when he released his baffling 2003 film The Room. A poorly made, bizarrely acted melodrama, Wiseau’s Room would go on to achieve midnight movie status — the type of so-bad-it’s-good film that grows through word of mouth via the incredulous viewers who happen to witness it.
Now the story of how Wiseau made The Room is a film itself in James Franco’s The Disaster Artist. The making-of The Room tale is seen through the eyes of Greg Sestero (Dave Franco), who served as a line producer on the film and played Mark, of “oh, hi Mark” fame. Our latest round up of genre DVDs and Blu-rays is here, with Wes Craven, Creepozoids, Dario Argento and more...
With the DC cinematic universe currently riding high on the coattails of Wonder Woman, Patty Jenkins’ megahit antidote to the miserablism of messrs Bats and Soops, it would seem churlish to point out that company’s past failures. Things being as they are, though, with the recent release of a camp classic on Blu-ray, it’s time to do precisely that.
The sequel to Wes Craven’s 1982 superhero effort that was more Toxie than Alan Moore, Jim Wynorski’s 1989 adaptation of the tale of scientist turned mutant bog creature Alec Holland, slyly monikered The Return Of Swamp Thing, cranks the ridiculousness dial right up to 'comedy horror' level. As Swampy meets the love of his life, Abigail – Heather (Locklear) be thy name – and battles the evil Anton Arcane (Louis Jourdan,...

From legendary cult filmmaker David DeCoteau (Puppet Master III, Sorority Babes in the Slime Ball Bowl-o-Rama) and producer Charles Band (Re-Animator) comes one the most beloved B-horror/fantasy films of the 1980s (at least for me)… Creepozoids – which finally comes to Blu-ray from Full Moon Features.
Blending key elements of genre hits Mad Max and Alien (while also incorporating elements of Band’s Parasite and Metalstorm) but produced on a tenth of their budgets, Creepozoids tells the tale of five Army deserters who wander the post-apocalyptic, post-industrial La landscape seeking shelter from an increasingly toxic environment and poisonous rain. They end up in an abandoned laboratory where they explore, have sex and eventually run afoul of a cavalcade of genetically engineered creatures including mutant rats, a monstrous baby, a massive, bloodthirsty H.R. Giger-esque beast…and something even more malevolent.

Director of National Intelligence James Clapper said Russia was behind fake news during the presidential election when questioned at a Senate hearing on Thursday. Democratic Rhode Island Senator Jack Reed asked Clapper, “One of the aspects of this Russian hacking was not just disseminating information they had exploited from computers, but also the allegations of fake news sites, fake news stories that were propagated. Is that an accurate- is that one aspect of this problem?” “This was a multifaceted campaign,” Clapper replied. “So the hacking was only one part of it, and it also entailed classical propaganda, disinformation, fake news,...

Like most independent James Franco projects, The Masterpiece, a biopic based on actor/writer/director Tommy Wiseau and what happened behind the scenes of his epically atrocious passion project, The Room, is currently left in media limbo until it pops up at some film festival. It’s been nearly a year since production wrapped on the dramedy, which suggests it should hit the screen sooner rather than later, but for now, we’re left aloof.
We know that it stars a quarter of Hollywood’s finest and brightest, however, including Seth Rogen, Dave Franco, Alison Brie, Josh Hutcherson, Sharon Stone, Zac Efron, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Hannibal Burress, James Franco himself as Wiseau, and that’s just scratching the surface. But it appears that for one very specific co-star, Bryan Cranston, the role wasn’t too much of a stretch.

Stars: Linnea Quigley, Brinke Stevens, Michelle Bauer, Richard Gabai, Marcus Vaughter, William Dristas, Jim Culver | Written by Kenneth J. Hall | Directed by David DeCoteau
Melody (Quigley), Marci (Stevens) and Mickey (Bauer) are your typical geeky college girls who just can’t seem to find a man. When their fellow sorority sisters leave to have parties and spend time with their significant others, the nerdy trio are left to their own devices and decide to have a little party of their own. With slim pickings in the male department, they call the equally geeky Kevin (Gabai) to come over with his friends Freddy (Vaughter) and Duane (William Dristas – in his only role). It seems perfect; three boys, three girls and a house to themselves. That is until they decide to have a séance with a crystal ball that flea market obsessed Marci bought earlier that day. The group unfortunately summon a succubus,...

Wme has added three more online video standouts to its roster. The talent agency signed David Dobrik, Charles “WolfieRaps” Raynor, and Branden “Joanne the Scammer” Miller.
Dobrik, who hails from Chicago, first gained digital stardom thanks to his six-second loops on Vine. With that app set to shut down, he has focused more on sites like YouTube, where his vlogs have gathered more than two million subscribers. In addition to joining Wme, he will continue to be represented by Jack Reed at Cycle.
Raynor’s Diy videos, song covers, and vlogs have allowed him to accrue more than four million subscribers across two channels. His primary channel is one of YouTube’s fastest-growing accounts; it has gained more than 400 million views since Raynor started releasing videos on it in 2014.
Miller is known for performing in drag as his Joanne the Scammer, who takes her name from her tendency to “scam” her way into events.

It’s hard to believe another Flashback Weekend is almost upon us, but in just a few days, Chicago’s longest-running horror convention will descend upon the Crowne Plaza O’Hare (5440 N. River Road, Rosemont, Il), where thousands of fans will gather to celebrate everything they love about the genre. Flashback Weekend kicks off on Friday, August 5th and runs through Sunday, August 7th, complete with a star-studded line-up, nightly screenings, Q&A panels, costume contests, and much more.
This writer is pleased to be returning to Flashback Weekend for my sixth year as co-host. Two personal highlights for me at this year’s convention have to be the Scream Reunion Screening and Q&A on Saturday evening, featuring Neve Campbell, Skeet Ulrich, and Matthew Lillard, as well as seeing Don Coscarelli returning to Flashback, this time with Phantasm: Remastered in tow.
Other featured guests at the 2016 Flashback Weekend Horror Convention include Malcolm McDowell,...
