Anna Paquin has praised Stephen Moyer as an "exceptionally talented" director. The 41-year-old actress portrays alcoholic mother Ella in his husband's new movie 'A Bit of Light' and she found it "really hot" seeing him work because he is so knowledgeable and had a very clear vision for the film.In a joint interview with Et's 'Spilling the E-Tea', she told her spouse: "You are exceptionally talented. You think in images and storytelling and camera angles and you know the inside and out of every single aspect of making a film or TV show and that's really hot."Anna joked she had been cast in the film because of her ability to "ugly cry on camera".Asking Stephen, 54, what had impressed him about her performance, he said: "When I read 'A Bit of Light' for the first time, it was a play, and I thought it would make a wonderful screenplay.

This article contains spoilers for X-Men ’97 Episode 5.
X-Men ’97 delivered one of its most devastating episodes with Episode 5, which saw the brutal deaths of multiple mutants in the nation of Genosha, while also depicting the tragic fates of Magneto and Gambit. With the estimated number of mutants that were killed still under wraps, the event, as put forth by the writer of the show, was meant to emulate real-world tragedies like 9/11 and the Tulsa Massacre.

However, as the audiences reel from the tragedies of this episode, Marvel has also put forward the means for the attack on Genosha to be undone. Just before the attack began, we saw Cable rushing to find Madelyne Pryor, and trying to save the mutants. This could mean that the time-traveling mutant is looking to undo the events of Episode 5, which could prompt him to go back in time to prevent...

Anna Paquin’s acting journey began on a high note after she landed the role of Flora McGrath in the 1993 historical drama The Piano. She has since continued to demonstrate her acting prowess in numerous films. However, winning the industry’s most prestigious award for her first film at 11 was undoubtedly overwhelming for the young star. Actor and X-Men star Anna Paquin won an Academy Award at a very early age. But after receiving the coveted prize, she became a little self-conscious with the idea of being an Oscar-winner.

Halle Berry wasn’t the only Oscar-winner who was a part of Fox’s original X-Men franchise. Anna Paquin, who played the young mutant Rogue, also knew what it was like to win the trophy. She won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in the 1993 movie The Piano. She was only 11-years-old at the time, and perhaps what made her win more impressive was that it was her first feature film.
Paquin had no ambitions to be an actor at the time of her victory. She was only interested in the role because it meant she could take time off from school.

Anna Paquin is telling the truth about those scenes in “True Blood.”

This year’s races for Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress were over before they started. Robert Downey Jr. in “Oppenheimer” and Da’Vine Joy Randolph in “The Holdovers” took leads in the Gold Derby odds in their respective categories early in the season. They both went on to pick up Golden Globe, Critics Choice, BAFTA and SAG Awards. By the time the Oscars rolled around, there was a “near zero” chance of either of them losing.
In contrast, the lead acting contests provided considerably more suspense. Bradley Cooper in “Maestro,” Paul Giamatti in “The Holdovers” and Cillian Murphy in “Oppenheimer” were all looking strong at different point in the derby, before Murphy really exploded and ultimately won the Best Actor Oscar. And Lily Gladstone in “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Emma Stone in “Poor Things” kept trading the top spot in the Best Actress odds. Gladstone finally reclaimed...

Many of us were excited about the prospect of The New Mutants a few years ago. The sales pitch of an “X-Men horror movie” sounded like a match made in heaven. As often happens, the film that was released was far more of a pillow fight than the cage match I’d hoped for.
But as we excitedly embrace the kid in us with the release of X-Men ’97 on Disney+, I couldn’t help but imagine a more adult side of that universe. What if the X-Men franchise embraced the opportunity to lean into the horror genre? I’m talking about the body horror of its mutants, the cruelness of its villains, and the potential for superhumanly violent finishers that would make Mortal Kombat blush. With all that in mind, I took a look through the original X-Men films on a horror scavenger hunt and found some pretty cool trinkets along the way.

Created by Alan Ball and inspired by The Southern Vampire Mysteries, a series of novels by Charlaine Harris, the TV series True Blood ran on HBO for seven seasons, from 2008 to 2014, ending up with a total of 80 episodes. 42 of those episodes featured Joe Manganiello as the werewolf character Alcide Herveaux. Introduced in season 3, Alcide was only supposed to be a guest star for that particular season – but he proved to be so popular with viewers, he was kept around… until season 7, when he was killed off. Not surprisingly, Manganiello wasn’t happy with the way his character went out. In fact, he was so displeased with Alcide being killed off, he feels he still has unfinished werewolf business to this day.
During an interview on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Manganiello said (with thanks to The Hollywood Reporter for the transcription), “I thought there was so much left on the table for me.

Long before he started working as a game show host for NBC, Joe Manganiello played the beloved werewolf Alcide Herveaux on HBO’s True Blood.
It was the best of times for the actor — that is, until it came time to end his five-season run in 2014. In a conversation with Andy Cohen on his SiriusXM show, Manganiello admits that his departure from the hit drama didn’t come with the closure he would have preferred.
“I thought there was so much left on the table for me,” the Deal or No Deal Island host told Cohen. “The thing about it was they never planned for me to be on the show past one season. I was signed up as a guest star my first season, and when my character really broke and people really loved the character, they were kind of unprepared for that to happen.”

Joe Manganiello wasn’t happy with the 2014 conclusion of True Blood. The actor, who played fan-favorite werewolf Alcide Herveaux in later seasons of the HBO show, said this week that he feels “like there was a lot that was left unexplored” in the series ending.

I was signed up as a guest star my first season, and when my character really broke and people really loved the character, they were kind of unprepared for that to happen.”

Many of cinema’s hard men are notorious softies in real life. Ray Winstone may well be one of those, even if he admits to not looking particularly approachable.
“My wife always says to me, ‘Why do you look like you’re going to kill someone when you walk into a room?'” he tells Variety. “But I don’t mean to!”
Winstone’s long-standing status as the go-to man to depict violent approach-with-caution individuals or British mob bosses continues to serve him, however, as “The Gentleman” — Guy Ritchie’s eight-part Netflix spinoff of his 2019 gangster comedy feature of the same name — proves. In the series, awash in the classic Ritchie mix of guns, drugs, violence, aristocrats, boxing and tweed, Winstone stars as a gangland patriarch and head of a massive weed-growing empire. Because of course he does — who else would you cast as an elder statesman than the actor...

By racking up three Best Actress Oscar notices between the ages of 26 and 32, previous teenage supporting nominee Jodie Foster proved it possible to earn academy recognition more than twice during adulthood after initially charming them as a child. Now, nearly three decades later, she has improved upon that distinction by landing her fifth career bid for “Nyad,” thus entering the Best Supporting Actress arena for the first time as an adult. Since her two featured bids are separated by 47 years, she now holds the record for longest span between consecutive Oscar nominations in a single acting category.
Foster, who first caught the academy’s attention at 14, belongs to the 18% minority of child nominees who went on to contend as adults. She was preceded in that regard by 17-year-old “Rebel Without a Cause” (1956) cast mates Sal Mineo and Natalie Wood and has only been followed by Saoirse Ronan, who competed for...

At the beginning of Bryan Singer's 2003 superhero film "X2: X-Men United," the title teens are enjoying a school field trip to the local Natural History museum. The kids don't get out too often, as they attend a special school for superpowered mutants, a class of people hated by the populace at large. While they are sitting in the museum cafeteria, a pair of bullies approach Pyro (Aaron Stanford), Iceman (Shawn Shamore), and Rogue (Anna Paquin) asking Pyro for the use of his cigarette lighter. Pyro denies them, and they snatch his Zippo out of his hands, lighting up immediately. Pyro, possessing the superpower to expand fires, winks his eye and causes the bully's lit cigarette to explode, setting his jacket on fire. Iceman, who can fire ice blasts from his hands, extinguishes the fire. Showing off their powers in public is verboten, as they run the risk of being...

CAA has dropped a pair of female Bipoc entrepreneurs who’ve gained attention in recent years for holding “anti-racist” dinner parties for an affluent white women audience, according to one of the founders who says they offended their agent with their vocal support for Palestine following Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre and Israel’s subsequent invasion of Gaza.
On Nov. 13 Saira Rao told her followers on X, the social platform formerly known as Twitter, that she and her business partner Regina Jackson were now without representation due to “our words denouncing genocide. Regardless of genre, fans place an enormous amount of expectation on series finales. It's not easy to carry the responsibility of wrapping up any extraneous plot threads and character arcs in a satisfying way for longtime audiences. Even the most acclaimed shows, like "Seinfeld" and "The Sopranos," can have their entire successful run overshadowed by middling or divisive reception to their respective finales. This distinction carries over to horror TV shows, with plenty of notable series marring their celebrated legacies because of the last impressions left by divisive final episodes.
Horror shows often suffer from abrupt cancellations, denying audiences a satisfying amount of closure thanks to anticlimactic endings that don't live up to fan expectations. Even some of the most enduring and iconic horror shows have come to a close with lackluster finales. Here are the most maligned endings that ruined the legacies of TV horror classics by failing to stick the landing.

Jane Campion will be honored with Next Generation Indie Film’s 2023 Luminary Award. The director will accept the award at the third annual gala, which will take place on Oct. 29 at the Loews Hollywood Hotel in Los Angeles.
Next Generation Indie Film Awards is a non-profit organization for independent authors and publishers. It bestows the Luminary Award on a “transformative figure in the industry, an artist whose work and journey are a North Star to the filmmaking community, especially at a time when art and inspiration are much-needed.” Rian Jonhson was the inaugural recipient of the Luminary Award in 2022.
Campion’s most recent film, 2021’s “The Power of the Dog,” a searing Western drama about a hardened rancher (Benedict Cumberbatch) who torments his brother’s wife (Kirsten Dunst) and her son (Kodi Smit-McPhee), was regarded as one of the best of the year and received 12 Oscar nominations. Director Mike Dougherty is slowing pushing forward Trick ‘r Treat 2, the long-awaited sequel to his horror anthology film Trick ‘r Treat (watch it Here). Last year, he said the sequel is in “very active development“ and this month he mentioned that there is a “really great script” in place that he wrote with his Krampus collaborators Zach Shields and Todd Casey. Now, while speaking with Collider, Dougherty added that Trick ‘r Treat 2 is going to give the film’s little icon Sam a “proper nemesis” to face off with.
Sam is a supernatural creature that walks among trick-or-treaters with a burlap sack on his head, making sure people show the Halloween holiday its proper respect. If they don’t, Sam deals out the consequences. Some of the characters in Trick ‘r Treat find that out, most notably an old man played by Brian Cox, who does battle with...

Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures brought director Mike Dougherty horror anthology Trick ‘r Treat (watch it Here) to home video in October of 2009 – and fans almost immediately began asking for a sequel. Fourteen years later, we’re still waiting for Trick ‘r Treat 2 to make it into production. Last year, Dougherty said the sequel is in “very active development“. Now, during a Q&a that was conducted for a screening of Trick ‘r Treat, Dougherty has added that Trick ‘r Treat 2 already has a really great script in place.
The filmmaker told Collider, “We have several drafts of a script. I brought back the same storyboard artist I mentioned before, Simeon Wilkins, so we have a stack of storyboards and a good fat stack of concept art done by Breehn Burns as well. True Blood came out during a time when vampires were all the rage in the mainstream. That was thanks to Twilight, which was making a killing off of Stephanie Meyer’s adaptation. The adult HBO series focused on Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), a telepathic waitress living in Louisiana. The period was set two years after the invention of a synthetic blood product branded “Tru Blood” that allowed vampires to come out of the coffin and let their presence be known to mankind. The series lasted for seven seasons and has a total of 80 episodes. It was certainly one of HBO’s...

For as long as I've known the X-Men, Rogue has been one of my favorite members of the team. It was her white-streaked hair and charming Southern Belle accent that first caught my notice, but what makes Rogue endure is her tortured soul.
Her untamed powers, to lethally absorb the vitality, memories, and superabilities of other people, prevent her from touching anyone; her first kiss put her boyfriend in a coma. So, she keeps herself closed off, too afraid of hurting others to get close to them — even her true love Gambit/Remy LeBeau. With this intersection of superpowers and characterization, Rogue shows how not all mutant powers are blessings. Due to underserved sex education in the United States, plenty of teens (especially queer ones) can relate to Rogue's fear that intimacy will cause calamity.
Now, most "X-Men" characters have complicated histories and Rogue is no different. Writer Chris Claremont...

The British drama The King’s Speech won best picture, best lead actor, best director and best original screenplay honors at the 83rd Academy Awards, which was impressive for See-Saw Films co-founder Iain Canning, as the British drama was his company’s first movie out of the gates.
“That was my first producing credit,” Canning told a Toronto Film Festival panel Saturday before, despite the success of the British drama, recounting the sweat and toil for the startup production company to get the film made.
For starters, the exchange rate went against See-Saw during the development of The King’s Speech. Period dramas were out of fashion among film buyers at the time, apparently, and a key financier pulled out of the project at the eleventh hour.

Marcia de Rousse, a veteran actress with a scene-stealing turn on HBO's True Blood, has died.
Variety reports that de Rousse died from a long illness in Altadena, Calif., on Saturday, September 2.
The actress had been vocal with fans on Facebook about her health issues, revealing in April that she'd suffered a fall at her doctor's office.
"Who knew a fall in my doctor's office would lead to my death? It caused my hiatal hernia to move to an area where it is now dangerous," she wrote.
"Can't eat, can't breathe, just general misery," de Rousse added.
"Palliative care comes soon, and we wait to turn into hospice and then to die."

In the entire 95-year history of the Academy Awards, only one woman has been nominated for the Best Director Oscar twice: Jane Campion for “The Piano” (1993 nominee) and “The Power of the Dog” (2021 winner). The other six females to contend for directing are Lina Wertmuller for “Seven Beauties” (1976 nominee), Sofia Coppola for “Lost in Translation” (2003 nominee), Kathryn Bigelow for “The Hurt Locker” (2009 winner), Greta Gerwig for “Lady Bird” (2017 nominee), Chloe Zhao for “Nomadland” (2020 winner) and Emerald Fennell for “Promising Young Woman” (2020 nominee). At the upcoming 2024 Oscars, Campion’s record as the only female to reap two separate director mentions could be matched if “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig earns her second bid.
Campion received her first Best Director nom for “The Piano,” about a mute piano player. The New Zealander lost to Steven Spielberg for “Schindler’s List” but did not go home empty-handed that year, as she won the Best Original Screenplay award.

The X-Men character Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, always had to wear specially fitted sunglasses or a custom visor -- outfitted with magical crystal lenses -- to block the powerful laser beams that were always pouring out of his eyes. Weirdly, the eye beams couldn't burn through his own eyelids. The character of Wolverine, meanwhile, was outfitted with striped yellow spandex and an enormous mask sporting outsize facial "wings" that stuck out at least four inches on either side of his head. The costume didn't look very wolverine-like -- wolverines aren't yellow -- but it was pointy and vicious and looked cool on the page. High-contrast colors tend to "pop" in superhero stories.
Superhero costumes work perfectly well when the character is merely a drawing on a piece of paper. When outfitting living actors with the same costumes, however, it might look a little silly and, if the costume is too weird,...

Eva Maria Daniels, the Icelandic producer and film festival favorite behind such recent indie dramas as What Maisie Knew, Hold the Dark and Joe Bell, has died. She was 43.
Daniels died June 30 in London after a battle with cancer, her friend and publicist Jessie Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter. She was diagnosed in March 2020 with a type of Stage 3 cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes, but she declared herself cancer free in an interview with THR‘s Chris Gardner a year later.
“Eva died on the same terms as she lived,” director Börkur Sigthorsson wrote on Facebook. “She played her cards close to her chest. She didn’t seek recognition when she had success. She didn’t seek pity when she suffered. I will miss her friendship greatly, but mostly I will miss seeing what she would have done next.”
Daniels most recently executive produced the Sydney Sweeney-starring Reality.

It’s time for another episode of the Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? video series, and with this one we’re looking at Scream 4 (watch it Here), the one entry in the Scream franchise that had a surprising lack of success at the box office. The audience didn’t come back for this one, which was released eleven years after the previous film, but did return for the more recent sequels. To hear all about Scream 4 and its bad luck, check out the video embedded above.
Directed by Wes Craven from a screenplay by Kevin Williamson – which received uncredited rewrites from Ehren Kruger and Paul Harris Boardman – Scream 4 has the following synopsis: It has been many years since the Ghostface Killer cut a deadly path through the town of Woodsboro. In order to get over the trauma of those horrific events, Sidney Prescott has written a self-help book.

As original true crime dramas go, “A Friend of the Family” is a highly unusual one — not just for its harrowing subject matter but due also to its production pedigree. The nine-part limited series premiered on streamer Peacock last October, telling the story of Jan Broberg and her family. In the 1970s, Broberg was a young girl and adolescent who was systematically groomed — along with her parents and younger siblings — by her next-door neighbor, a charismatic, master manipulator sociopath and pedophile named Bob Berchtold. He kidnapped Jan twice — when she was age 12 and again at 14 — and went largely unmonitored and unprosecuted for the better part of a decade. The vividly-dramatized docudrama stars Oscar winner Anna Paquin, Colin Hanks, Jake Lacy and Mckenna Grace.

Great casting is one of the things best defined by what it is not. There’s an alchemy to the assembling of a cast — particularly a larger ensemble — that can only be achieved with luck and a sharp eye. And while the 2022-2023 TV season saw plenty of larger-than-life performances and jaw-dropping transformations, these four first-year series managed, in wildly different ways, the same balancing act of star turns and sharply delineated supporting roles. Here are four series worthy of Emmy Award consideration for their feats of casting.

Tony Gilroy’s gritty sci-fi/spy thriller is the adult, character-driven “Star Wars” many of us have been waiting for.
