Beautiful story
1 October 2011
I fear that some people might not give this movie a chance because of the Christian message. But even if you do not believe in Jesus, this movie shows life's struggles that everyday people deal with, in a very real way. It has a bit of everything, some action, drama, comedy and a lot of heart warming moments. I am a Christian, but I do know a lot about movies and this is a great film. The core message about the role of fathers in their children's lives, can ring true to anyone of any faith. It is a movie for anyone looking for a movie that deals with people and their interaction with those closest to them. And because I am a Christian, this movie made me cry like 5 times, it was just so real and touched home for me when dealing with families and the simple fact that it takes a lot of effort to make a family work. If you want to see a movie that has a pure message and deals with real issues, this is the movie to watch.

Dexter (2006–2013)
10/10
On the edge of my seat!!!!
25 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit that in the beginning when I heard about this show, I was a bit wary about watching it, because it seemed so dark!! However, because my friend kept insisting it was good, I gave it a try. And I am very happy that I did. Dexter is overall told from the point of the main character, Dexter. We follow him around as he does his deeds and we get his witty and dry humoured narration of events that transpire. Yes Dexter kills people, but the way this show goes about explaining the reasons and origins for Dexter's actions, and the ritual he has built up based on his step fathers teachings when he goes to kill a person, kind of makes you feel for Dexter. But don't be fooled, the show is not just about Dexter, one of the best aspects of this show is that we actually get some insight into the characters that affect Dexter's life, which are mainly the people that work with him at the Miami Metro police department. From season 1 to 5, we take several types of journey's with Dexter; we get to see him grow and discover himself and as a result, we become more attached to Dexter. Dexter feels like he is a monster, that the killing part of his life is a dark passenger that he is burdened with. As the show progresses, it can make one feel like everyone has their own dark passenger, even though some may be more severe than others. Each season introduces a new thrill for Dexter to unravel, and while he is unraveling the mysteries you will be left on the edge of your seat!!! This show is so intense and very drama filled. It is a well rounded drama, in that the casting is amazing, the storyline is superb, the dialogue is great and the character developments make you feel like you are a part of the Dexter show!

Thor (2011)
9/10
Entertaining!!!
24 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed watching this movie. I like the information that we're provided with on Thor's life, his father, his friends and his brother. I like the graphics and the way Thor's world looks. At first, you kind of feel that Thor is pompous and doesn't fit the super hero role. However, as Thor encounters Jane (Natalie Portman) in her small town along with her colleagues, he starts to change his ways. I like the characters in this film, each fits their roles. I do feel like the fight scenes and the time on earth for Thor is a bit short or maybe I enjoyed the movie so much that it went by quickly. Chris Hemsworth makes a good Thor and Natalie Portman makes a nice love interest. I would love to see more instalments with the same cast.

First love/crush can be life changing
24 September 2011
I have not read the book so I cannot compare this movie to the book but I enjoyed what I saw. The movie is about a young boy and a young girl's feelings towards one another. The movie is done in a way where you get to see and hear what both of them are thinking in their encounters. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the interactions between the two main characters. I also liked the insight we get into both their home lives. Juli is such a sweet girl and Bryce is just discovering himself. This movie takes you back to your first crush or feelings for someone. It is a great family movie and just really enjoyable to watch. I think that the two young stars in this movie have great acting careers ahead of them.

Simply Heart Warming
12 September 2011
I love black and white films, it's amazing to see history before your eyes. It's always great to see the passion of these early actors/directors. Charlie Chaplin was both an actor and a director and did well in both roles. So many think that Chaplin was a simple jester, just making people laugh. But he was much more than that, and this movie attests to that. It can be seen in his movies that Chaplin carries meanings in his roles and this movie is about loving someone more than you love yourself. It's about how a kind man remains kind regardless of the mistreatment that come his way. It's about how love for someone can provide purpose and meaning in someone's life. It's about how miracles can come in the most strangest and unlikely forms. The movie is filled with laughs, joys and tears. For those who like the simplicity of first time cinema, I recommend this movie.

Unknown (I) (2011)
Keeps your attention
8 August 2011
Anyone who has watched Liam Neeson's movies have grown accustom to a character that is always thrown into absurd situations but can still somehow use wit, power and skills to get himself out. Unknown offers the same formula but it still works. This movie caught my attention from the get go. I enjoy how Liam is believable in these roles and you forget that he's getting up there in age, if anything, he makes it seem like this is what any man his age is capable of. He is awaken from a coma to discover that his identity has been taken by someone else. Worst yet, his wife doesn't seem to recognize him. With the help of the woman that saved his life, in a country that is not his home, Liam seeks about to prove himself. This movie is action packed and keeps you on the edge while you try to figure out what is going on. And I feel the ending does not disappoint. Enjoyable, entertaining, action packed and thrilling!

Womb (2010)
Movie that creates a platform for debate
25 July 2011
This movie is not for those who are looking for action or for a fast paced movie. The movie takes you to the very beginning and takes it's time to build the relationships that will eventually be the cause for the controversial decision made by the main character. There is one scene that happens so suddenly and it is this event that brings about the controversial issue in this film. The acting is done really well by the few characters that we see, they seem immersed in the situation, filled with as much emotion as you would expect. The second half of the movie will have you debating with others and yourself on what stance you would take. And perhaps as you're watching the movie you have an idea of what the outcome will be, but the movie engages you to keep watching to see how it all plays out in this unique situation that we're presented with.

I wish I knew them!

What an excellent show! It is witty, funny and keeps you wanting more. I love the cast of this show, everyone fits their characters well. I feel like the study group that was formed offers a bit of crazy in all kinds of forms. I like how we meet the characters from the beginning and get to be a part of their lives as the show develops. I found season 2 to be even better than season 1. I have a few favourite episodes but overall I can watch any episodes more than once. There are few shows I would re-watch and this has been added to my list. I feel like the humour in this show is very creative, as the situations are not the typical comical situations that you would expect. Everyone in this show contributes to the comedy, from the Dean to the lunch lady, again a great cast! I can't wait for season 3!!!!

Didn't do it for me
24 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The only reason why I gave this a 5 is because Leo is in this. He always seems to give 100% into this characters. However that didn't help with this movie. I wasn't that intrigued and the language didn't mesh well with the modern day theme. I understand what they were going for, to bring Shakespeare to today's audience but somehow, I felt it didn't work. Plus, the way the movie was done, it felt like the movie was paced too slowly. Yes I understand that a play takes time to build, but perhaps because of the language in the modern scenery, I felt the movie wasn't moving fast enough. I would actually much rather watch a version of this where the language matches the scenery because it is a timeless and classic novel that is beautifully written.

Inception (2010)
Taken into another world, so to speak
24 July 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I love Leonardo Dicaprio. He is one of the best actors ever. I feel he effortlessly becomes the characters he plays. This ability of his draws you into his blue eyes and into the movies you watch. Inception not only has Leo going for it but also a very unique and wonderful idea. The way the idea is explained to you has you on the edge of your seat taking notes like you're in a lecture class in University. Perhaps if University lectures were this intriguing we'd have more Universities. But those who like to think and like to get into the movies, taking in as much details as possible, this is an entertaining ride for you. Plus, Joseph Gordon Levitt and other supporting actors, do awesome jobs with their roles as well. This is one of those movies that stick with you after you've seen it. It is also one of those movies you want to take a second look at to see the details you missed in the first viewing. The ending is where some people decide to love or hate this movie. For me, it made me love it because it left the interpretation up to the audience. It was a great way to get you to keep talking about this movie as well as keeping it alive after the credits have rolled away. I personally am on the side of he was still dreaming but that's why I love this movie, there is no certain absolutes, however it has resulted in theories and serious debates, which I love!

Mad Men (2007–2015)
Makes you feel like you're there
24 July 2011
I found this series on Netflix. I was hooked from the first scene. The dialogue is so engaging and the drama keeps you wanting to see more. I am now on season 4 and I feel like I have a better understanding of the ad world and what they go through. I also see the beginning sequence of the images shattering coming to life and making sense. I love how you get to see issues from different characters, though the main focus is on Don Draper. This show demonstrates the attempts to separate the work life from the personal life and how sometimes the unity of both cannot be avoided. It also shows the difference between the work face that people put on versus the face that is seen when the work day is over. It also shows how good work relationships can make a world of a difference in someones life. If you enjoy watching characters being developed, enjoy becoming a part of the series as if your in the office looking on and you enjoy the truth of the imperfection of human beings, you'll enjoy this show.

What a neat idea for a movie
24 July 2011
I picked this film on Netflix not knowing what it was about. Then I got introduced from the opening scenes to a very interesting concept and was drawn in by an original idea. I don't know if this was done in any other film, but it is the first time that I have seen it in a movie. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The original concept was refreshing and the main character was a lovable girl who was looking for love like many of us. (By the way, for those who didn't remember, she was on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, played Xander's fiancée). Her situation (minus the obvious thing that we don't have access to, at least right now) is quite believable as I know many people in her predicament, searching for someone to love and to spend the rest of their lives with. It is a romantic, dramatic and funny movie that sits well with me and is quite enjoyable to watch.

Citizen Kane (1941)
Yes it is that good!
24 July 2011
I had heard a lot of good things about this movie and sometimes when people boost a movie and then you watch it, you're not satisfied with what you see. This is not the case with Citizen Kane. It is exactly as good as they say it is. It's been over two years since I have seen this movie and it remains as one of my favourite movies of all time. It carries a simple message using a series of complicated situations for our main character. It carries a good message about life, love and wanting to belong. It also carries a good message about the affects of certain circumstances in life that never leave us and perhaps are the things that motivate us to become great people. This movie is like poetry in action and is extremely brilliant. It is the concept and the message that makes this movie a masterpiece. You don't care that it's in black and white, perhaps the black and white helps the message even more.

Enjoyable but nothing too mind blowing
24 July 2011
I have to admit that I don't know much about Captain America. But I decided to check out the movie because I love movies that adapt comic book characters, because there is usually a rich background and character development that the director has to work with, which is usually a good formula for making a good film. This movie was enjoyable, I was not bored while watching it but it was not as action packed as I had heard it was. I found that with any movies that introduce a comic book hero, this was filled with more dialogue and background history than the actual daily adventures that makes one a super hero that we love to watch. However, the acting was good in this movie, nothing over the top. I like the choice for Captain America, as I feel Chris Evans carries the charm of the underdog that we all cheer for. The reason why this movie did not get a 8,9 or 10 out of 10 was because I didn't feel the excitement that I usually feel during super hero films. Overall, it is a good movie but it will not be added to my favorites list.
