Too much, and Not enough
18 July 2008
A lot has already been said about this movie, so I'll try and refrain from the same old comments.

If there is too much, and not enough at the same time, what is there? Perfection.

I've never seen a movie in which there was so much going on, but it was all so perfect that there wasn't enough of any of it.

The plot is so deep and so intricate, and yet so easy to follow. A cavalcade of characters that are so well defined. Every character gets ample time, and yet I wish there was more of everything.

The film is so engrossing, and so expansive that I wish it was two movies. I just left wanting so much more. It gave me everything I expected and much more, and yet, it was so good that I still want more.

It's a great film that is recommended to any fans of crime, drama, action, superhero, or adventure movies.

It's not so much for kids as there are a lot of adult themes and perhaps too much plot for kids to follow.

Your balls are showin
22 December 2007
Warning: Spoilers
Okay. This movie sucks. I knew is sucked going in. Someone online said it was a pretty good throwback to the 80s slashers. It's not. It's supposed to be. but it's not.

I was at my friend's house and he showed me the opening scene on Comcast OnDemand because he said he watched it and it sucked really bad. So we watched it and it did.

So I had a friend over tonight and i did the same. but then we watched the whole movie. we fastforwarded through some boring parts but we watched plenty of it.

the acting is subpar. the writing is awful. the story is clichéd and predictable. the production value was pretty decent. everything looked good, besides a couple of the kills.

i didn't like Horny the Clown's costume. it was nothing special. he looked like a reject of the kiss army. the movie as a whole was pretty awful. i wouldn't recommend it to anyone. not even for the sake of watching a crappy movie.

BUT there was one funny line that ALMOST made the whole thing worth while. it doesn't come across as well just typing it, but the delivery was priceless. i watched it about 10 times. Crockers says to the kid in the hospital, while stuffing his face with a burger "your balls are showing." man...it was hilarious. it may sound childish, but it was classic. and that line is the only good thing i have to say about this movie, really.

half a star. and that's just for the "your balls are showing line." fine...maybe 1 star.

Ghost Rider (2007)

Very Decent
18 February 2007
This movie...well, it was pretty decent. I had seen the bad reviews and thought that maybe i shouldn't see it, but my girlfriend really has a thing for Nic Cage and I couldn't tell her no, so we went to see it today.

Now, I did want to see the movie when i saw the trailers. I thought it looked badass. It's the Rider, man. One of the coolest looking comic characters of all time, and in that regard, the movie delivered. Ghost Rider looked super cool in this movie and he did all the cool stuff you wanted him to do. From there, it takes a turn for the worst.

"The thing about legends is...sometimes, they're real." Lines like this hit your ear like nails on a chalkboard and others just seem so forced. There's plenty of bad lines and awful jokes to go around. I had heard that Cage wrote some of the scenes in the movie, I'm betting that every line of bad dialogue came from his bald little noggin. Nic Cage is a good actor, I'll admit that. But if you don't control his performance, he will, and you don't want that.

Wes Bentley has a terrible performance, so does the old rider. I don't even know what the actor's name is, and I'm not going to look it up right now. He's the old guy though. The caretaker. And he has some very bad lines, so i guess with the material provided, he did a decent job. The rest of the cast performs abley, but nothing noteworthy.

In closing, if you wanna see some cool Ghost Rider effects, then you should check the movie out (The Grindhouse trailer alone made it worth 6 bucks to me), but if you are looking for a great flick, maybe you should wait for 300 (here's hoping 300 turns out as we all dream).

Let's ride..

Destined to be a Cult Classic
10 February 2007
This movie is quite a spectacle. To call it a great film, i don't know, is perhaps pushing it. But to call it one of the most entertaining movies i've ever seen, is an understatement. Running Scared is destined to be a cult classic. There are those out there who love this movie. There are those out there who hate this movie. And then there are a lot more out there who haven't even seen or heard of this movie. This is the first true cult classic in a long time.

This takes us back to the old days when movies were movies. The 70s and the 80s when movies could just be balls to the wall without any regard for decency. When a skilled filmmaker is allowed to work freely, the film will benefit. This is an insane movie. I don't even dare describe the plot. I would like to say though that Paul Walker redeemed himself with this movie. I always kinda hated him, but after seeing him in this i can give him some credit, because he is intense.

i want to bring up the Tarantino comparisons. people who criticize this film call it "imitation Tarantino." why does every violent crime movie since reservoir dogs have to be copying Tarantino? cant it be "imitation woo?" or couldn't it be possible that more than one director has a flair for violent, enthralling crime movies (scorcese)?

So check out Running Scared, watch it with some friends. It'll blow your mind. It's brutal, bloody, violent and vulgar, so beware. But believe me, in ten years people will be asking you, "hey, you ever heard of running scared?"

The Hitcher (2007)

The most decent movie of the year!
20 January 2007
I don't really know how to go about describing this movie. I didn't see the original so I can't compare. However, I know that Rutger Hauer could be downright terrifying while doing somethin mundane like brushing his teeth and Sean Bean really has to try to be frightening. I'm not saying Bean didn't give a good performance, because it was actually pretty decent. The kids however, are a different story. It's not that their acting was bad necessarily, but I have to say I hated the girl. She was supposed to be this tough Ripley style character and she just didn't fit the bill at all. She was actually pretty annoying and too plain looking to be a sexy horror lead. For a rated R movie I felt the level of violence was pretty low. Sans a couple nice effects at the end, this could have easily been a PG-13 movie. I'm not gonna say it sucked, but I hesitate to say it was okay. So if you really want to see a horror movie in theatres this weekend, you might as well check it out. But if you really want to see a good movie in theatres this weekend, I would pass up the Hitcher.

That was a waste...of beer!
20 November 2006
Now, I don't want to say this is the worst movie ever, but it's pretty bad. If it weren't for a couple redeeming qualities, this movie would be at the very bottom of the barrel.

First of all, if the production value weren't so good, it wouldn't have even received the one showing it did. The production value is top notch. If it didn't involve Snoop Dogg, Danny Trejo, Jason Alexander, and a handful of other cool B-stars, then this movie wouldn't even be heard of. But it does. There is also one death that I didn't see coming. The others are terribly executed, no pun intended.

The opening sequence, while cool looking, is ages too long. Snoop is his usual double g self. "Keepin it real," as it were. Some of the acting is down right laughable, namely Posie. And at times the director chooses to use clichéd camera tricks for seemingly no reason, other than to disorient you in a scareless horror flick.

Intentional laughs, none. Scares, none. Smile worthy cheesy moments, a couple.

Was it worth paying to see in the theatres? No. Is is worth paying for to rent? No. But is it worth getting your favorite style of intoxicated and watching it with a group of friends? Almost.

Proof of Aliens?
23 September 2006
Now, I am a person who believes the stories about the EBE and the reverse engineering of crafts, and alien intervention in human evolution. I believe those kinds of wild things. But there is just something about this interview for me that doesn't hold up. The director is doing "Night of the Living Dead 3D." The supposed production company in the movie doesn't even exist as far as i can tell (Rocket Pictures). In the IMDb company credits for this movie there is a company whose sound stage was used. The company also did the animatronics for Star Kid. Star Kid is a sci-fi family adventure with a strange looking robot like alien. However, the basic design of the animatronic face is eerily similar to that of the EBE in this interview. Perhaps Broadstreet and Benson had a cool concept of creating an elaborate mockumentary based on all the information they had heard about aliens. Or perhaps they were even paid to put on such a hoax to provide disinformation. Vega 7 produced this movie and only this movie. Is it not possible that this animatronics company created EBE and used their sound stage to record this infamous footage? I am not saying for sure whether or not this is real. I am just saying that this image could easily be achieved through puppetry and animatronics. But then again...this could be the only known footage of a real live alien being. I guess ultimately it's your call.

Hostel (2005)
10/10
It's Like Saw With Some Talent
7 January 2006
Hostel is similar to the overrated Saw movies in the sense that it is not afraid to show excessive gore or mutilation. While Saw prides itself on the violence, Hostel prides itself on the characters. I've read many reviews of Hostel who hold it to the same level as movies like Saw. Calling it typical, clunky, or nothing new.

Hostel is nothing like Saw. Hostel is a well-made film about the terror of being in an unfamiliar place. Pair this with the typical American mentality, and we see our asshole American backpackers travel deeper and deeper into a nightmare that they won't be able to escape.

I am a huge horror fan, whether it be old American horror or modern Japanese horror, I love horror films. I heard so much about this movie, how great it was, how original is was, how good the acting is, everything. And it's all true. The only thing I found to be untrue was the amount of gore. If anyone thinks this is the goriest movie ever made they got some renting to do. This movie does feature some brilliant effects and scenes of violence, but it's not as brutal as I had hoped.

If you're a Hollywood horror fan looking for a date night scare, you'll come out disappointed as this movie builds up its characters before letting anything remotely dangerous happen to them. But if you're a horror fan looking for something more along the lines of the Devil's Rejects then Hostel may just be the flick for you.

King Kong (2005)
10/10
The Greatest Film Ever Made?
17 December 2005
i am a huge movie fan. i had never seen the original king kong, i just grew up on countless references to it and have seen clips and snippets of it over the years. now that i have seen peter jackson's king kong, i have no intention of ever seeing the original. it is impossible that it even comes close to what jackson achieves with this movie. it is hard to put into words how amazing of a film-making achievement this movie is. a classic story, told a thousand times, a classic character known around the world for decades. the golden rule is to never mess with a classic even though there are those who try. i never thought a remake of a classic movie could take the place of its predecessor but this movie does that and more. this movie is perhaps the greatest film ever.

this movie clocks in at a whopping 187 minutes. and i said going in that i heard people say it doesn't feel like 3 hours. and i said that i don't care how good a movie is, i notice when it's long. you do not notice this movie is 3 hours long. a part or two slows down the pace for character development or some of the most touching moments on film, but the action more than makes up for the slower dramatic moments. everything pays off in this movie, and on the topic of classic scenes, this movie has several reels of classic scenes. the fight scenes on skull island are the most incredible things i've ever seen. much of the cg in this movie is so real that you get lost in it. words can't describe this movie. i just used several hundreds words without even mentioning any plot points. this movie is the greatest movie of the year. i didn't think batman begins or sin city would fall from the top of my list. but upon a second viewing i may not only think kong is the movie of the year, it may very well be the perfect movie. a bold statement but hard to deny. see king kong, you will not regret it.

on second thought, i think i should mention the performance by andy serkis as king kong. the real heart of this movie is in his performance. king kong is a one of a kind character. very sweet and misunderstood. these sound like clichés. but more than that he is the most ruthless warrior i've ever seen and the emotion on the face and in the eyes of kong, even the body movement, is unbelievable. the performance is powerful.you wouldn't think that a cg ape would have the effect that it does, but it most definitely does. i know they don't consider it acting, but i want a best supporting actor nomination for andy. open your eyes academy. now i'm done.

12 oz. Mouse (2005–2020)
Greatest Opening Sequence in Cartoon History
8 August 2005
12 oz. Mouse (oz. Mo) has the greatest opening sequence in cartoon history. along with its heavy metal thrash ballad opening theme, we are sent reeling through an incredible model city (of cardboard) and from there the buildings begin to explode and everything goes wild. the end titles see the building burning to the ground.

This opening sequence has NOTHING to do with the show itself, but it does however capture the insane mood of the show. for an 11 minute show, the pacing is slow. of all the williams st. productions on adult swim, this one is the most poorly animated, seems like the actors got high and made up lines, and it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but i tell ya, it ain't half bad. it makes that piece of garbage tom goes to the mayor look, well even more like garbage. aqua teens it ain't, space ghost it is not, and birdman it'll never be, but this new 11 adult swim cartoon could find just the right audience to last, and i for one hope it does. "you boys, uh, hear anything, bank robbery...uh-bout it?"

Freaked (1993)
10/10
Best Unreleased Movie of All Time
18 July 2005
Freaked is a prime example of what a studio will do to your movie. This movie would have been the vulgar, dirty, nasty rated R movie Americans would love 5 years later. Even in being reduced to pg-13 jokes, this movie is the greatest unreleased movie of all time, and one of my favorite movies of all time. Alex Winter and Tom Stern did a great job of directing such an elaborate film. Alex's performance as Ricky Coogan is amazing and the special effects make-up is as good as i've seen in any movie. The beast boy make-up for Alex winter is incredible. this 12milion dollar movie is ridiculously elaborate and packed with gags. it is in the realm of airplane or the naked gun series with non stop jokes. most of the jokes in freaked hit big time. it was only released in two theatres, it was discontinued on VHS. now its on DVD. rent it. it deserves a chance. it could have been a hit. and imagine if they could have made it how they really wanted, it would have been a cult classic. the acting in this movie is top notch by everyone on screen. randy quaid in his best performance ever and keanu reeves in his best performance ever as Ortiz the dog boy. 4 stars. word.

Batman Begins (2005)
10/10
I am the night
15 June 2005
This is a brilliant take on Batman. There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said. This is the best Batfilm to date, period. Christopher Nolan and David Goyer and have turned this character into what its spirit always was, a real man. The narrows, the slums of Gotham City, look like something straight out of Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. The skyscrapers are beautiful and displayed in mesmerizing blues. It is the first "superhero" movie to take itself seriously. This movie is dark and edgy, like a film-noir of the 1940s. This corrupt journey into a seedy world is cool escape from the laughable circus of Gotham that Joel Shumacher created in the late 90s. The use of villains in this movie, although seemingly sparse, sets up the road to the rogues gallery we are all looking for. The little cliffhanger in the end lets you know what is in store for the franchise, and I can not wait.

Alien Apocalypse (2005 TV Movie)
8/10
Bruce Campbell is the king of the screen
26 March 2005
This is a very good TV movie. The special effects were all believable and the locations looked expansive. Beyond all of that it was a snappy, campy, 1950s style alien movie. Who better to take control of the human rebellion than cult hero Bruce Campbell? That is not rhetorical, and the answer is no one.

Without giving away the plot(as this movie will be airing on sci-fi quite often i would assume in the oncoming weeks), the movie stars Bruce Campbell as a doctor who is part of a probe mission that was in space for 40 years. When they return the earth has been taken over by insect-like green aliens who have enslaved humanity. It's up to the doctor to lead the rebellion that will save humanity. Sound tasty enough for ya? Well if you like classic one-liners and plenty of great Bruce Campbell action, you'll want to check out Alien Apocalypse. ***

An Instant Classic Zombedy
3 October 2004
I am a big fan of zombie flicks. Among my favorites are the Romero trilogy, the Night remake from 1990, Dead Alive, and Versus. Now Shaun of the Dead can easily be tossed up there with the best.

What troubles me is everyone calling it a satire or a spoof. It isn't satire. It deals with the zombies very seriously. It is a zombie movie. In the zombie movie sense it is fantastic. It also has plenty of comedy. Here's where people say it's really a comedy and not a horror movie. Who says horror can't have funny moments? Dead Alive was a spoof. Shaun is a legit zombie movie with a lot of comedy. A perfect mix of both genres.

Early on there is a lot of foreshadowing for the impending epidemic. This was handled so well, these guys are clearly fans of the classic. In fact the visual FX artist worked on Dead Alive. I'm glad to see someone sticks to the old school zombies. The modern ones are not what zombies should be. It makes them lose their charm. And it seems Romero is heading in the modern direction in hopes to start a new franchise that builds off of the originals. I hope he reinvents and not destroys the genre that he made famous.

You can't say Shaun of the Dead doesn't have enough horror. You can't say it's really a comedy. It's really a zombie movie. The Zombie flick fall into it's own genre. Shaun is a great zombie movie with a lot of fun and a great story. If you see one zombie movie this year, make it Shaun of the Dead.

I am Mister Funktastic
23 April 2003
This movie was not good. It's not like I went in with high expectations or anything but nonetheless it wasn't all that entertaining. I thought at least there would be some cool fight or action scenes, but not really. So what can you get out of this movie? Not much. Poorly spoken english from a Tibetan monk and a terrible trailer for the worst idea for a movie since Battlefield Earth, Shaolin Soccer. It looks awful. So now I'm gonna talk about that ridiculous excuse for entertainment rather than review Bulletproof Monk. They mention something about it being the most spectacular movie since Fantasia. I seriously doubt that due to the fact that this movie looks terrible. It's like Matrix meets Big Green, with Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon added into the mix. And why? I don't know. It is dubbed so maybe it was a big flick in Japan or China. But this movie does not look appealing in the least. It just looks so horrendous. But I digress. Bulletproof Monk is worth seeing if you have nothing else to do, but it's not a must see. Ladies, let the guys pay for you. Guys, just walk in and don't pay. Or just get money from your parents. But hey, at least it's not Malibu's Most Wanted.

Great Documentary
13 February 2003
This is a great film. I saw this a couple days ago and it was incredible. It is funny and sad. It will really make you think about columbine, guns, and the violence in america. It is a powerful film. It is nominated for an oscar this year. I surely think it will win. And it deserves it. You must see this.

This is one of the funniest comedies specials I have ever seen. I highly recommend it. He expresses his views on meat, drugs, alcohol, ciggarrettes, his family, and cancer. Funny stories, funny faces, funny sounds, and funny songs help along this hilarious routine.

Jim Carrey, The Chosen One, and Fred Willard
13 August 2002
This movie is great! Jim Carrey has an uncredited role. I won't say who it is I don't wanna give it away. This movie is out of print. But if you can find it at your video store you will not be disappointed. I can't get enough of this movie. It's about a guy who gets mad at everyone and everything. He also writes children's books. The star, and writer, is the star, director, and writer of Kung Pow: Enter the Fist. Which is also a hilarious movie. Steve Oedekerk is a funny, funny guy. WATCH THIS MOVIE!! It is my favorite movie of all time. So watch it and you will be laughin so hard. It's basically just Thane in his apartment alone talking to the camera the whole time but it is funny. It also has a cameo from Fred Willard. He's funny!

The Living LOVE the Dead
30 May 2002
I love zombie, vampire, and other horror movies. And when I went to the video store and saw a movie with a quote from Savini on the front, I read the back. And this movie sounded like some good stuff. So I got home and started to watch it. And the beginning was SLOOOOW. But I knew it had to be good so I continued to watch. And this was a good horror movie. I like the unique zombies and of course the pot smoking comic relief. This, I think, was all around a pretty good movie. I recommend it.

^I choose not to retract this review. I only wish to comment that i wrote this long ago, before i developed any real taste in movies. and i have not rewatched this movie, but i don't even remember liking it. becuz it is a bad movie. i don't know why i gave this flick a positive review. my deepest condolences if i accidentally influenced any poor soul into watchin this piece of garbage.
