The Worst Episode of Golden Wind by Far
26 July 2022
The G in Guts is the lowest rated episode of the part I didn't know why until I watched it, just painstakingly awful and boring. Narancia spens the entire episode trying to convince the other mafiso that something is wrong with the water.

Skip Episode 2 Unless You Enjoy a Boring Insight into the 70s Sex Scene
26 June 2022
I haven't written a review in a while but after Netflix came out with their failure of a docuseries Crime Scene Cecil Hotel I had nothing more to add against the dumbness of the directors to let in &@@ YouTubers making a mockery of the victim and pretending they knew her. They follow that up with this waste of a docuseries where you had an interesting killer but one with only enough content to fill maybe 1 hour 45 minutes the first episode was brillant but the second is just weird and incessant the guests aren't bad but it's tired and they repeat the same point over and over New York was a filthy despot where the mafia had prostitutes have sex for money. Yeah genius; we know. Why did you spend an entire episode on something that repetitive? My advice watch episodes 1 and 3 get the full story and move on.

The Thing (I) (2011)

Unfortunately Forgettable
12 November 2021
The Thing 2011 was an attempt at making something great, something that could carry the legacy of the 1982 classic. Which among my favorite films of all time and one of the most iconic horror films of all time. This being the case my expectations were through the roof but unfortunately, it did not live up to the original but it still wasn't too bad either. If the movie had fewer flamethrower scenes and more new, fresh scenes instead of CGI and carbon copy cookie cutter scenes from the original. I feel like we could have had a classic film from 2011 but unfortunately, we just received something forgettable and underwhelming. With tropes, we've seen at least a couple of hundred times in every horror film the alien spacecraft looked like a complete ripoff of Alien (1979) which doesn't help the movie's case. Overall I forgot about the film just a few days after watching it and because it didn't stick with me I can't give it anything higher than a six out of ten. The acting wasn't bad and I felt Mary Elizabeth Wienstead did a great job as the main herione. The reason the score is that high is for the snowy setting and sensible story that leads into the original pretty well. Despite leading well into the original we didn't really need it... did we? A full reboot could've brought a more interesting flavor.

Had Potential, Failed Miserably
11 November 2021
As Above So Below had a lot of potential, after watching the Descent (2005) I was hoping for a similar experience but not quite as good. Unfortunately for me, I went through an experience that was far worse maybe not even half as good as the Descent. First of all the rules of the horror movie make no sense; they traverse through the Catacombs of Paris but sometimes the demons want to kill them and other times they let them go. There are no set rules inside this film everything is nonsensical and messy. If you can't make up rules and everything just happens randomly in a jumbled unentertaining visual mess then I can't give the film a good rating and that's why critics probably gave this film such poor ratings, I will give it credit for having found footage as the video format but the fact that everyone had a camera on their head and they kept switching between the cameras added to my disorientation. Honestly, this isn't the kind of disorientation that is entertaining it's just poor decision-making from the director and cinematographer. I will give the film another piece of credit for the cool Iranian underground beginning sequence and some of the plot points inside the cave. The actors did very well with what they were given and that's probably the reason my review is as high as it is. The dynamics between Scarlett and George plus the overall acting were the only thing keeping me invested in the film. I don't have motion sickness before you claim that I only hated the cinematography because of the found footage format. I love found footage films and Cloverfield (2008) is among my all-time favorite films this film was just very poor in the quality of the picture. Keep this in mind if you intend to watch the film.

Flashy CGI and Plot Can't Save This Film
18 June 2021
Oh boy this movie had a lot of potential. Unfortunately when you give Zack Snyder too much control over a project (especially the dialogue/script) it ends with the movie being a lot worse than it had to be. If they hired a competent script writer maybe things would've turned out differently but sadly this movie feels like a long cliché ridden trash fest.

21 Jump Street Before 21 Jump Street
21 March 2021
Yeah, this film was a great time sadly Ryan and Shane on Buzzfeed Unsolved ruined the final reveal for me which altogether destroyed my experience. When they showed who was responsible for the murders it was pretty awesome, the incredible action scenes are filmed in a satiric and realistic way. The final action scenes are probably the best aspect of the film, the cameos from Martin Freeman and a couple of other famous actors at the start was a nice start. The atmosphere clearly had a low budget to it but Edgar covers it pretty well and I would be getting into spoilers if I told you how but needless to say we get small sets with big hearts, dialogue, and comedy to cover it all up. Overall this movie isn't my favorite of The Cornetto Trilogy (I'd argue Shaun of the Dead is better) but it's still a solid film. My only real complaint about the movie is no fault of its own, it was low budget and they tried to cover it up with small sets and a dumb English town. My final complaint is the look of the town; I know it' England so it's going to have a smoggy, gothic weird town that just made me uncomfortable and uneasy. That doesn't fit the upbeat dumb town of the buddy cop film that the film is trying to be.

A Lot of Fun Even for a Teetotaler Like me
21 March 2021
In case you're wondering what a teetotaler is it means I avoid alcoholic beverages like the plague. Let's get something straight before you get into this movie, no; Edgar Wright did not have a 200 million dollar budget to create some kind of Independence Day blockbuster (God I wish they would give him 300 million to make a blockbuster action film). So when you see the aliens don't expect little green men with cool exo-suits, although the way Edgar makes the Aliens fit into the plot was incredible. Simon Pegg and Nick Frost brought their natural charm and friendship for the third (and possibly final) time. You can tell that despite The World's End not having a 200 million super-budget blockbuster it still manages to hire an impressive cast featuring Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine, Eddie Marsan, and Pierce Brosnan (in his second film of the trilogy). They fitted Rosamund Pike (from Gone Girl) well into this film. Some people argue that this is the worst of the trilogy and I agree, however in terms of entertainment this is a solid A. Without spoiling anything the ending is arguably the best of the trilogy I can't wait to see the rest of Edgar's filmography as a director.

Pacific Rim: The Black (2021–2022)
6/10
A Bit Cliché for Shonen but a Decent Start Nonetheless
19 March 2021
Going in make sure you realize this is about as rough as Castlevania season 1 one of my major gripes with this show is the fact that Pacific Rim was an awesome live action Kaiju anime that was never supposed to become an anime itself. The only reason this show exists is to retcon Uprising (2018). Another major flaw is the fact has a lot of clichés such as AOT references, NGE references and other anime tropes. Then you have western tropes like the fact this is CGI and NOT traditional animation. The main characters make so many damn mistakes it's like watching me in front of my crush (Fs in the chat). The story writing is weak despite being penned by Craig Kyle, co-writer of Thor: Ragnarok, and Greg Johnson, head writer of the 2000 series X-Men: Evolution. The characterization is weak as well Mei is basically the edgy female empowerment character but she does have a cool relationship with Taylor (The brother guy). The main villain is also cringe the Australian bad guy who is literally the only man in the show that has an Australian accent, like seriously Netflix couldn't get Australian actors to voice characters living in Australia? I'll give them a pass on that one given Pacific Rim the movies did the same thing.

Now, onto the positives; the show has a pretty good CGI team behind it (MAPPA) the same people that did Attack on Titan Season 4, of course there are noticeable sharp edges and unnatural character movement but for what is basically a 3 hour animated movie it's not half bad. I liked Haley's character a lot. Her voice actor does a good job and her milk jugs aren't half bad as well if you catch my drift. Taylor is an ok protagonist with the same voice as pretty much every Shonen male lead, he's depicted as half competent, sassy and pretty much the only intelligent man or woman in the show. The Yeager design for the protagonists is great; it reminds me of Gipsy Danger but with a weaker less impressive weapons arsenal. The ending saves the show for me. It brings about a plot twist (that I saw coming halfway through but I still thought they wouldn't do), this show has potential and if it gets a good amount of support and a sizable fanbase they can make longer more well throughout seasons but for now I'm just holding out hope.

Tldr; Worth watching if you've seen the movies or are even slightly curious (not a lot of spoilers about the movies although a couple deaths are mentioned). If you hate CGI anime and iffy cliché Shonen plot writing you should probably watch it anyways because season 2 is gonna be epic. 7/10 The ending saves the show.

Scream 4 (2011)

Scream 4 is a Great Reboot
10 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I have to defend my rating of Scream 4 as I know many people hated this reboot. When you're rebooting a franchise that has been dead for 11 years you have to take extra care to make fun of every horror reboot trope you can think of because this is a Scream film after all. After the disaster that was Scream 3 we finally get a return to form by Wes Craven, the worst aspect of the movie is probably the lack of realism; this is a heavily romantic film. I don't mean romantic in the sense of smooching between David Arquette and Courtney Cox, I'm talking about the fact that 50 police officers can't catch a serial killer that kills his victims with a prop knife that gimmick might've worked in the late 90s and early 2000s but in today's surveillance state there's no way! Ghostface wouldn't last longer than 3 days especially in Los Angeles. Now looking past the negatives (way too much self-referencing, some bad characters, and sequelitis), we can talk about the good aspects, and oh boy are there a lot of good aspects. First off I love, love, love the new characters in the film (some of them), the short-haired blonde girl Hayden Panettiere was cute and likable for me, and the fact she wasn't the killer surprised me and made her death all the more heartbreaking. Anthony Anderson as the dumb cop was hilarious for the first 30 minutes of the film especially his death although I wish that was on screen. Emma Roberts as Sidney's niece was sweet for like an hour and a half of the film and I did not see the reveal coming. I'm not sure if it was intentional but all of the character names are based on the real-life actors and actresses' names which isn't funny but it's much easier to keep track of their names.

We start the film off with an incredible intro that may be one of my favorite horror movie intros. We wake up in Stab 7 that references Stab 6 then finally back to real life where two friends get hacked to oblivion. In the first half of the film, there was a bit where Emma Roberts and Hayden were stuck in Emma's room while across the street their best friend and neighbor gets slashed in a scene so obvious it will make you facepalm although the gore is great and the most realistic and ambitious of the franchise especially after watching the PG-13 blood in Scream 3. We go through Shaun of the Dead references a publicist of Sidney's dying in high octane and scary parking lot scene we get arguably the best scene of the movie where Courtney sets up cameras then all of them turn off Courtney goes to investigate and we get a fight scene where we think she's going to die but she doesn't. Finally, we get the seemingly final battle between five teenagers, Ghostface starts picking them off one by one and we get a hilarious scene where he is about to kill a high schooler that is recording his life (Wes Craven has no idea what teenagers do), and he says that he's gay in a horror movie so he can't be killed but Ghostface kills him anyways the joke was spoiled for me but I still laughed at my screen. We're at Hayden's house, 3 / 5 of the kids die including the video streaming gay dude, Jill's boyfriend and Hayden. One of the video streamers is Ghostface and the other Ghostface is Jill Roberts which surprised me apparently she killed them all for notoriety by becoming the teenage queen girl that saves the day kills the guy in the Ghostface mask framing her boyfriend all in an elaborate scheme to become famous. This was a great plotline and incredibly unique; she even goes as far as to smash her head and make it seem like she was assaulted and acted in self defense. The more I thought about this movie the more I liked it, after initially watching this film I was like at a 6 or a 7 out of 10 but upon further reflection I was thinking about what I could find wrong about the film and I decided you know what it's an 8, it deserves an 8, screw the consensus I f with this film.

A few critics and fans wanted Sidney Prescott to finally die at the end of the film where her niece Jill Roberts (Emma Roberts) seemingly kills her but oh wait guys Wes Craven saves her through plot armor somehow she wakes up and fights off her cousin after arriving at the hospital almost dead. Then crazy stuff happened. A defibrillator started flying, it felt like an action movie. It was freaking awesome. Then Sidney lives so a sequel can be made but oh wait Wes Craven dies the same year which means we have to wait until 2022 for the sequel directed by some other dude, my only disappointment about there being a fifth movie is the fact they killed all and I mean all of the new kid characters which means the next movie will have to reboot the reboot with an entirely new cast in the same city for the fourth time.

Scream 3 (2000)

A Comedic Mess
10 March 2021
Coming into this film all I knew from the unfavorable reviews was that most people thought this film was the worst in the franchise and I agree with them still, let's look at this film from a different perspective, shall we? Columbine took its toll on 2000 and early 2001 action and horror blockbuster films. 9/11 and the Iraq war exerted their devastation on Hollywood for at least 5 years from 2001-2006. Most of the horror movies made at the time being about torture **** and other thriller nonsense. Due to the shooting and several copy-cat crimes inspired by Scream (1996) that all the Scream films make fun of, Harvey Weinstein and his lap-dogs had to switch the franchise into a Comedy-Horror instead of a Horror-Comedy. Don't get me twisted there were still some scary scenes. Sadly, the movie looks and feels like a cheesy Sam Raimi Spider-Man film which isn't necessarily a bad thing. A little spice up and cheese doesn't hurt underneath a good scary show. However, the movie took it way too far and ruined it all. Some of Wes Craven's films are straight masterpieces that belong in a museum. The rest of his work belongs in the trash and a few like Scream 3 are just straight mediocre.

I find it insane how Scream 3 ( produced by Harvey Weinstein) made fun of Hollywood big guys banging young chicks for acting roles and somehow Hollywood did not know? Apart from everything going on outside of the film, the actual film should have been PG-13; the film barely had any good gore or kills but being a Scream movie the whodunnit, horror, and comedy aspects were still entertaining. I will say that even if this film doesn't entice you; you should still make sure to watch it if you plan on seeing the entire Scream Quadrilogy soon to be a Pentalogoy (if Scream 5 hits theatres in January 2022). We just lived through 2020, I can't rule anything out.

I Needed More Scream Content
10 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The second film in the Scream franchise feels like a two hour extension to the original story with the gang over at college. Right off the bat my biggest issue with the film is the death of Marty. It's not the fact he died; it's the damn way they killed him like seriously? He didn't even get a night time kill, they killed him in the damn middle of the school's campus. My second biggest gripe is the fact the whodunnit aspect of the film was incredibly dumb and soo far out that nobody can tell who it was because the culprit wasn't in the film for like an hour after the 30th minute. Then there was Steven Ulrich's mom that I didn't care for, and who came out of nowhere. The positive aspects of this are mainly Sidney, she's a great protagonist (arguably one of the greatest horror protagonists) and keeps it up in her second best performance in the Scream Franchise. No matter how bad this franchise gets (Scream 3) Sidney, Courtney and Sheriff Dewey will always be an awesome crime solving trio kind of like Scooby Doo without the dog. Also can I talk about Courtney like damn this is peak Courtney Cox. Whoever did Courtney's hair in the third film should be jailed. Sidney's boyfriend Derek Feldman is kind of cringe but also kind of cool sometimes, especially towards the end of the movie. Gale and Dewey are such a great couple I'm glad they got married in real life and Wes Craven made fun of that in the 3rd film where they get married both in the film and real universe. The soundtrack was new and improved it trys some of those cool 90s horror beats that pay zero tribute to the 80s and instead makes it on it's own which I can appreciate. Overall it was fun but I recommend finding and watching the 1080p remastered version of Scream 2 because the version I watched had awful video quality. Overall it's not a bad film; especially if you need more Scream content after finishing the first Scream then this is definitely for you.

Nothing Incredible but Still Subversive
3 March 2021
The general consensus on this film is: "oh this film isn't bad per say but it's middle of the road for a Pixar film nothing groundbreaking." I have to say I agree. I was pleasantly surprised to see the film to be pretty entertaining for around two thirds of the film. The first 20 minutes was Cars 2 level of bad the world looked boring and fantasy driven. The same stuff you've seen hundreds of times but wait guys there's a twist. The world it's set in with a weird cross between fantasy and the modern world (sarcastically claps). With the big brother Barley trying to reinvigorate the past but almost everyone wants to live with technology which makes no sense given that magic is... magic nevermind ignore the plot holes, let's just focus on the rest of the film. They lost their dad (not a spoiler it happened before the film even starts) before Ian Lightfoot (the little brother) was born. Moving on we get introduced to the actual magic of the film magic staff brings bad half the dad (it's in the trailer) yada yada yada our Boys are on a journey to a Manticore cavern that's basically the Chuck E Cheese of Pixar's universe. Our shy protagonist goes full Morgan Freeman and tells her that she needs to go back to the good old days the uncivilized ways (It's like The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn except Ian isn't a lying prick). We get our EPIC location for the film's Ravenpoint, side note Ocatavia Spencer is the best actress in the film she was funny while bringing life to a manticore.

Alright we got the basic premise down. I think it was alright so far, but by Pixar's standards it was as bad as the Cars franchise and The Good Dinosaur but luckily for us the film turns into a Buddy Brothers film. The dragon at the end of the film was horrific (not in a good way), the way it was designed made me think that Pixar wasted it's entire budget on the rest of the film and by hiring Chris Pratt and Tom Holland as the main characters (must've cost 50 million). It knocked down my rating of the film but the Pixi Bikers, dancing and walking on an invisible bridge scene were great with the invisible bridge being the best scene in the film well apart from the ending (which I won't spoil). I kinda wish there was a romance in the film because I could've seen a hot blue alien chick. Onward isn't even close to the top of the Pixar ladder but it's nowhere near the bottom. I liked the film and there's something in it for anyone with a sibling like me (I'm the older brother by the way). My recommendation is watching Coco then Soul then Onward if you're binging Pixar films about dealing with death.

Nice Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Vampire Film
19 February 2021
This New York extravaganza was a thing of its time; it didn't have the best CGI so all the zombie vampire humanoid things look the same. Will Smith is easily the best part of this film; he was great with the dog for the first half of the film than with the woman in the second half. The world is very expensive and interesting. The flashbacks could've been entertaining in themselves. I wish there was a prequel it would be entertaining to see a Contagion-like movie but with a zombie vampire spin. I will say the film's message on who is truly the monster is an interesting idea that I've seen before. The alternate ending (which you should see on the Blu-Ray or Youtube), is in my eyes more profound but not profound enough to save this movie and turn it into some kind of incredible A-movie.

It Follows (2014)
7/10
Great Aesthetic Nothing Profound
19 February 2021
It Follows is a strange film, a very unique horror film while not being all that unique. I know it's a strange start to a review; stick with me. The director and writer are fans of the original Halloween and Friday the 13th plus pretty much any 80s horror film. The homages are paid with the soundtrack (which I'll give credit is pretty fascinating and nice to hear which added a nice aspect to every scene the score was played), the way the killer works by never stopping (Friday the 13th reference) is also a horror movie love homage. The final homage is with the suburban neighborhoods and cars that look like it's from the late 1900s. Even the cabin that our protagonists go to midway through the film looked like a bad shed, the illusion is lost with one of side protagonist female nerd that had a clamshell phone? Reader? Without giving anything away the way the killer didn't add anything to my experience seeing the film it just felt like any other slasher flick with a twist that doesn't make it as good as the critics or audience says. The film isn't bad but in terms of homage to the horror genre, The Cabin the Woods (2011) did it in a far more entertaining way while also being a better film overall. With its low budget, I can't hold It Follows to the same standards as The Cabin in the Woods (2011). Even ignoring any other horror films, It Follows is not one of the Greatest Horror Films of All Time. At least, in my opinion, I think people just got hyped for a unique horror film that was half decent for the first time in 3 years and that's fine but don't expect a spectacular high budget film also the film has a lot of nudity and the entire plot revolves around sex so make sure to read the parent's guide before showing it to your kids.

Just as Fun as the Original
17 February 2021
22 Jump Street series is a nice addition to the Jump Street universe, a self aware sequel that moves the Narcs onto the horrors of University. Although not as realistic or as entertaining as the first movie's setting (though Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill did not remotely resemble even 22 year olds in high school) it was more funny and the college setting was more extravagant in a self aware way so much that the Korean Church police headquarters becomes better and Ice Cube says that it is due to a higher budget. The action wasn't as fun as the first film but in terms of the ending man the helicopter ride the Mexican setting everything was pitch perfect there was even a certain car that is worth seeing. Overall it's a worthy sequel to the satiric and fun first film, another 112 minutes of entertainment make sure to watch and pay attention because 22 Jump Street is another great addition to the buddy cop film genre.

A Low Budget Cult Film That Inspired a Lot
16 February 2021
Shaun of the Dead is a very important piece of cinema due to its impact on satire, comedy and zombies cannot be understated. It uses its low budget setting as the basis for the comedic jokes inside the film, with the pub, our protagonist's girlfriend's house and his own house as the basis for the film. The reason this film has aged so well is because it was arguably the first true Zombie satire film that was still horrifyingly gorey and hilarious. The things that Shaun of the Dead inspired cannot be understated Shaun of the Dead was a revolution for the zombie genre. Moving on from that Edgar Wright's Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy became a cult classic which didn't do so well at the box office but literally everyone has seen later the trilogy is definitely worth buying on Blu-Ray. The pub scene finale and the actual ending subverted my expectations with a plot twist nobody saw coming. I don't drink but the alcoholic parts were hilarious.

Pixar Does it Again
16 February 2021
Soul is one of the better Pixar films. It attempts to be deep and philosophical for a kid's film and they didn't do half a bad job at it. If you think jazz is a bad genre of music you will hate... and I mean hate the entire movie because despite only having 9 minutes of music video piano. It doesn't change the fact the entire soundtrack is jazz so stay away and don't review bomb if you hate the genre go watch any other Pixar films you haven't seen yet. Personally I'm not a fan of jazz but I don't hate it either. I'm neutral and I gotta say the jazz didn't bother me because the story was quite enjoyable. You go from point a to b in the escalator to the great beyond and the great before. It was spiritual without being overt. It does not definitely say yes or no so don't be alarmed if you are religious like me. The animation was clean and the most realistic yet from Pixar in the New York area since the Good Dinosaur. The simplistic afterlife place is simple but entertaining. The movie was hilarious, fun, sad and has purpose. It was a very good time and Pixar has done it again. Although don't get your hopes up this is nowhere near as good as The Incredibles, Toy Story and Wall E but it's in the upper half. By Pixar terms the film is maybe A- but by regular standards it's definitely an A.

Pretty Good Claustrophobic Horror
15 February 2021
There were a few plot twists here and there that surprised me and felt like a B-Movie version of Lovecraftian horror (at the end) and the rest of the movie being entrapped psychological horror. It's quite good if you find my description enticing but if you don't like psychological horror or thriller you'll hate this film.

10 Cloverfield Lane is a better film than Cloverfield from a purely technical, horror and academic review of the film. However by my own mind, Cloverfield (2008) is a far more entertaining film because of how unique it's method of capture was and the monster element within it. I had a big problem with the antagonist(s) I won't tell you how many antagonists there are or it may be considered a spoiler in 10 Cloverfield Lane. The design of the antagonist is my main problem with the film versus it's predecessor. We follow our protagonist Michelle as she lives through a short tumultuous relationship with a crazed psychopath named Howard and a redneck nobody named Emmett.

Overall I'll give it a 8/10 despite its flaws; for the low budget and it's unexpected and sudden release 10 Cloverfield Lane deserves credit for actually being quite a unique film I haven't seen before. Trust me you should give this a try, it's not for everyone but even as someone who hates these types of films I still had a half decent time with it. Especially because the female protagonist reminded me of a more sexy just as competent Sigourney Weaver hero so that's an instant point in my book albeit the movie has a far less menacing monster.

P. S. The ending of the film was exactly what happened like 2/3rds of the way through War of the World kinda unervy, wonder if they stole that idea from there. I'm mentioning that fact because I watched War of the Worlds a week before seeing 10 Cloverfield Lane. Sorry not part of the rest of my review just thought I would add that in just in case someone saw the similarity as well.

A Classic Buddy Cop Comedy of the 10s
10 February 2021
Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill gave us a great tribute to the 80s buddy cop show, with two low ranking officers turned Narcs at their old highschool that they went to in the early 2000s. With a nice ending, formula, jokes and acting, 21 Jump Street brought something new; to a then dying genre (and still dying as of 2021). I have to give some credit to Ice Cube, Zac Effron and Brie Larson for adding on to the comedic elements in shockingly good performances from those mediocre actors.

Souped Up Shaun of the Dead
10 February 2021
Zombieland is a more extravagant higher budget, gorer version of Shaun of the Dead, despite this it doesn't feel as comedic or as well polished as the Shaun of the Dead mainly because of the way the film is written in a Deadpool like way. Which I don't mind for one film where our main character; Columbus speaks directly to us because it is a self aware rom-zom-com. Despite this, the film works incredibly well (unlike it's sequel); making fun of classic zombie tropes such as gas station snacks (man that was satisfying), betrayals, amusement parks and romance in the middle of the apocalypse. Overall there isn't much to say except that it is far, far superior to it's unnecessary sequel it came out at a time where zombie hype was quickly accelerating and even if you are tired of the genre today it's still worth a watch.

Zombieland Doubletap Became Exactly What the First Zombieland Movie Made Fun of
9 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In the era where Zombie hype was exponentially rising. Shaun of the Dead was the first film to make fun of how preposterous and hilarious zombie films could be. Turning the genre on its head into a low budget and entertaining Zom-Rom-Com (note; I need to talk about Shaun of the Dead as it had some influence on the Zombieland series). Zombieland followed up 3 years later to rave reviews it was thoroughly entertaining poking fun at the rules followed in Zombie survival scenarios. A few of these include only 4-40 people surviving the whole zombie apocalypse (somehow) and they have to stick together in a lord of the flies scenario cough Walking Dead cough. Abandoned Playground, Action Hero Duo team Tallahassee. Almost kissed by Colombus and Big Rock etc. Going on road trips was fun in the first film, in the second it felt like I was forced into a box to see bad CGI action taking place. Finally again with Little Rock and Big Rock betraying them at every turn was entertaining in the first film but far, far less entertaining in the second film be unique be interesting don't do the same old hashed stuff again I'm so sick of it. As a fan of Elvis, I was pretty biased in liking the 30 minutes they spent making Elvis references, which would be annoying to anybody that doesn't like Elvis Presley. Please keep this in mind. The White House was pretty badass.

From here on out there are spoilers (I still recommend watching the film if only for the nostalgia and final battle): Nobody was more overtly stupid like Madison in Zombieland Doubletap whom I hated with a vengeance she ruined the film for me. She made the film feel like an awful cash-grab sequel. To a dead genre that hasn't been popular since The Walking Dead. This dumb blonde bs gave me aids add anyone else and it would've been more entertaining the worst part about the dumb blonde character is THAT PEOPLE LIKED HER PERFORMANCE. Jesus Christ Why? I'll give the film credit for being just entertaining and funny enough that I could sit through its 100-minute runtime. The ending of the film was worth the other 110 minutes of pure cringe. The amount of kills that took place in the four seasons of the Walking Dead kill numbers in 20 minutes sounds pretty cool to me. I was expecting the same thing as the last film but they somehow made it more interesting even if Tallahassee running and the zombies not looking through the holed shields and biting at the people at the top of the building makes no sense. The Crane scene was very emotional and I think I would have been sad to see Tal. died because I liked his character a lot even in this mediocre film. I would've given it a 5/10 had the ending been bad but I decided 6/10 is fine.

Pseudoscience is Fun in Film
9 February 2021
Numerology is complete nonsense in real life, but I don't understand why people are holding Hollywood accountable for using it in a film about prophetic film? Even still this film was pretty disappointing for a disaster film, it was unique but there isn't nearly enough destruction as you would expect until the last 3 minutes of the film (not a spoiler there is a lot of destruction before it). I tried to be lenient on the CGI of the film but it looked cartoonish and unpolished in comparison to The Day After Tomorrow or 2012. The only reason I'm giving it a higher score is because Nicholas Cage gives a surprisingly good performance along with the child actors Chandler Canterbury and Lara Robinson who were surprisingly convincing it's a shame it had to be in a mediocre disaster movie. Rose Bryne wasn't half bad either.

Cave Horror Has Never Been This Good
9 February 2021
Preface: I recommend going in blind if you are having doubts as to whether you want to watch the film doesn't matter. If you are a fan of horror this film is a must-watch even if you end up disliking it. One last thing, make sure you are watching the UK Uncut version for an extra 40 seconds of footage at the end that is far more brutal and better than the American version. If you can't find the UK version; finish the film then search up the Descent UK Ending on Youtube to get the proper cinematic experience.

This is an all-female film done right, there's like one dude in this film it kinda felt like The Thing but with the researchers being all females even the plot took some notes from The Thing. Although the difference is it isn't a game of Among Us it's more of a game of survival. It was however entertaining, I haven't watched a cave horror movie before this I have seen underground horror movies but nothing quite like this. The plot is interesting and goes places the cinematography was entertaining and wasn't headache-inducing like you would expect when filming in caves although it was mostly done in a studio. So I assume that makes it easier to film it but it feels just right, to be honest. What kind of a person takes their recently widowed friend to unexplored and unsafe cave systems that may not have a safe route and deadly things lurking there. That's the only blatant plot hole I took issue with, given the rest of the film I'm happy to say I consider The Descent the best horror films of the 21st century. I'm not claustrophobic (I know kind of crazy) so her being trapped under rocks never really scared me (not a spoiler happens in the first 20 minutes), neither did the other cave running or crawling parts. The rest of the film with the blood and gore was incredible, the action was surprisingly good for a horror movie. I like how it was a mix of The Thing (without the whodunnit mystery), meets I am Legend but with the added twist of it all taking place underground. Even if you know some of the general plot it's still worth watching. I watched the Film Theory video about the Descent creatures and how their evolution is impossible or... possible. The horror aspects were still entertaining, our protagonist Sarah Carter (played by Shauna Macdonald) is very likable. Trust me the first 10 minutes make you sympathize with her and give you reasoning to like the film. Juno (Natalie Mendoza) was an absolute nut. I hated her character the entire feature-length. I find few faults with this one, a masterpiece to be cherished by all horror fans like me.

A Halloween Christmas Mashup Extravaganza
9 February 2021
A nice fusion of Christmas and Halloween, The Nightmare Before Christmas breathes life into the holiday mashup genre. If you don't like musicals you will hate this film but even I, who is not a big fan of English language musicals (because the songs are usually bad), found this film to be great. The stop motion animation was the best part about this film; the world we get transported to is one that is intriguing, dark and grueling. This will definitely scare your kid if they watch it when they're 5 or 6 but if they're 8 years old they've seen enough so that this film will be just fine to introduce them to the wonders of Christmas. There was one bad song in this film with the three delinquents singing it. Overall the musical aspect takes it down a notch but it's still a very entertaining animated kid's film to see during Christmas.
