Just what this season needed
era221115 November 2019
This season contrary compared to the last two seasons goes along with a very different flow in style. After many Tegridy-focused episodes this episode offers just what in my opinion South Park used to be.

A show, serving people present-time problems in the typical satirical and sometimes mildly offending way (at least to a usually minor group of people)

I had a lot of good laughs in this episodes and can tell for sure, that with the band in China episode I'll count this as one of my two favorite episodes.

Getting closer to classic South Park and I love it
miniond-1746416 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is a fun and bold breath of fresh air after all the tegridy. There are several laughs in this episode that came mostly from Cartman and his reaction when the girls created their own much more successful club, which due to a rule he made, he couldn't be a part of was priceless: 'Yeah! Who made that stupid rule!' I also felt a lot for PC principle in this episode as he is torn apart inside by whether it is right or wrong for Heather to participate in women competitions due to her incredibly man like physicality as she only identified as a woman two weeks ago. This shows very well the two clear sides of the very interesting argument in real life. But for me, the best moment was when Heather loses to the girls in board games and storms out saying that it was unfair as she wasn't always a girl and Cartman joins in as well. This was a perfect tie in between the A plot and the B plot and also was hilarious as Heather turns into a complete hypocrite and Cartman joining in was icing on the cake. This part felt like classic South Park and we need more of this. However, I do find that some parts of the first half were just a bit dull and it only really picked up after the strong woman competition. To conclude, this is not a perfect episode but with where Matt and Trey are heading, by the end of the season, South Park may be able to finally get back to pre season 20 gold.

South park at its near best
jgardiner8614 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Im a huge South Park fan and have been watching since its inception. Ill be the first to admit that through the 23 years there have been highs and lows but one thing that has never changed is their ability to address current issues and present it in their uniquely SP way. This episode is a high point in the current season with them moving away from the Tegridy farm narrative. Ive seen alot of ppl claiming the episode is mocking Trans athletes, if you think that you clearly didnt get the episode or worse didnt even watch it. As usual on the surface its easy to think they are just making fun or purposely trying to be edgy but in reality there is so much more to it than swearing and fart jokes. The show and episode deals with real issues with a deeper message. SP much like its always sunny finds a way to tackle a difficult/complicated subject in a refreshing manner that brings real issues to the for front but in an amusing way. The ep addresses the issues posed by athletes that were previously men competing against women and the idea that u cant have an opinion without fear of being branded a transphobic or narrow minded by the ever increasing pc world. I found the episode very intelligent and thought out and loved how it dealt with the boys and girls clubs at school. The idea that the boys didnt want the girls in their club but are offended they arent welcome in the girls, it highlights male hypocrisy and how often men mix up being pro women with being anti men. Good sign of whats still to come. Never change South Park

Another great episode, prolly the best one so far this season! We're not being bombarded with pointless jokes every second, but it's all just a full and whole exercise on satire. They still got it after all these years haha. And yes, change is good, I'm cool with all the changes since season 20.

Great addition to the show's legacy

Warning: Spoilers
"Board Girls" is a brilliant episode with very funny jokes, filled with the classical Cartman rants against everyone that isn't him as well as a protest against the inclusion of transgenderd athletes in many competitive sports. Overall this episode has to offer truly memorable moments such as the scene in Court, the will of Cartman to surpass the girls and the secondary plot of the PC principal, which is now facing the consecuences of his own philosophy and morals.

Much Better

It was an okay episode compared to the shows of old. Still, it's one of the best episodes this season. A few chuckles, social commentary, but nothing very memorable.

A glimpse of what SP once was
msfilho-0551919 November 2019
The whole season could have been a disaster but this episode gives some hope that the creators still have potential to make some really funny content. On the other hand is sad to funny that the only truly funny episode is now being severely atacked and called as "transphobic".

Boring, worst of the season so far
pledgerock23 November 2019
Was really enjoying the Tegridy farms plot and was hoping to see Randy realize what a piece of crap he's been being and be a cooler character but instead we are given an episode that revolves around Strong Woman and PC Principal. Great characters but to have an entire episode revolve around them was boring. I didn't care about the Board game subplot either. The Macho Man RS thing was funny but it got stale.

A complex issue that falls flat.
Deggy8813 December 2019
I'm going to talk about one of the themes this episode discusses without plot points to keep it spoiler-free. Going to be tricky.

Think back to every depiction you've seen of trans folks on South Park. Any of them positive? No. Any of them remotely realistic? No. Now I know you want to say, "But South Park mocks everyone!" And they do. But no other group only faces ridicule. Most others get at least one positive story. They even were able to show a human side to internet trolls, for crying out loud!

Now, this episode actually tries to lampoon right wingers. Their message is actually mostly leftist here. They mock the idea that trans women are invading women's sports today (because they've never played before, apparently, despite existing since the dawn of humanity). Matt and Trey do this with an extreme caricature of a trans athlete who "just transitioned two weeks ago."

Obviously it's absurd. It's supposed to be. That's satire, folks! This is supposed to mock the idea that men are becoming women and dominating women's sports.

But PC principal seems to that suggest that no trans women can ever compete. That's just bunk with no basis in logic, science, or history. It's a one-off line, and he may have only directed it at this one caricature, but it's a right-wing talking point to dehumanize trans people. That's dangerous.

So while I like that they tried to lampoon the righties and take a more nuanced middle ground, they really messed it up. Given South Park's long history of messing up trans issues, I think they probably should have talked to literally anyone in the LGBTQ community first. They came close to a positive spin, and then drove it into the ground.

Classic poke at the current situation what the world is going through
corythejoker20 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is classic classic classic and utterly hilarious. The macho man Randy Savage spoof RIP great wrestler. But the add of the Heather swanson trans character hilarious. This world needs to stop buckling down to this community. And to every negative reviewer on here I laugh and laugh even harder because you obviously can't take a joke. That's why south park continues to be the funniest cartoon of all time because it pokes fun at everything and right now the over sensitive leftists needs this stuff to put them in their place. Matt and Trey Keep up the amazing work love your show.

Wonderfully conflicting
Reckno6428 November 2019
I really like this episode's take on PC culture and gender roles. Paints it in a way that really makes you think how it's not all a black and white issue and there's a lot of grey area. What makes PC principal so PC? Why did "Heather" compete in the strong woman competition, and why did "she" make a big deal out of winning? And how might PC principals response to it be seen by the public?

Meanwhile a whole subplot about the girls playing role-playing games and being very good at them. So good that they challenge "Heather" to the games at the end of the episode and humiliate "her/him" when they lose terribly. The satire around sexism feels very.....real here in its own South Park way. It can't really be described; you must see this episode for yourself. As a guy, I certainly thought it was a good episode!

Also noticing a lot of dissatisfaction for the Tegridy farms focused episodes in the reviews. I do like South Park going back to its roots as much as everyone else, but I genuinely liked most of the Tegridy Farms episodes (at least the Halloween special and Let them eat goo). To each their own though.

I also have to admit, only in the past month has South Park really GROWN on me. I had a really hard time getting into the show for the past couple years with its extreme crass and offensive nature, but that all has changed with this latest season. I'm not sure why, but season 23 is where I truly am beginning to enjoy the show and I'm really thankful for that (good timing to say this on Thanksgiving!) I will be tuning in for the next season and watching as many previous episodes from the first 22 seasons as I can!

Sincerely, a new South Park fan. :)

South Park loves controversy, and this time isn't any different
swaneliott16 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Well, the irl PC babies didn't see the nuonce in this episode. Many people think this episode is just making fun of people who are trans, and laughing at them. This is south park, not family guy. I think the main message of the episode is that there are men out there who will stop at nothing to bet women, no matter how far they have to go. Randy savage wanted to bet strong woman, and took any means necessary to do it. And then on the flip side, the clubs draw a direct parallel from the strong woman story line. Cartman is the same as Randy savage, he does everything he can to beat the girls and prove he is better than them. The ending proves my point, as the two are left wallowing in there own self pity. In conclusion, this episode is not really about trans people, it's about empowering women.

Better than previous episodes
chipsik-1635714 November 2019
It's better than previous episodes, but still quite bland. These days we are not served any witty one-liners or clever plot twists, just a bunch of cliche dad jokes. Plot A would be funny 10 years ago, now it's just the reality.

Matt and Trey getting their groove on
spiff-1215 November 2019
This is what I always loved about South Park. Take an issue and throw a well placed spanner in the works. This time it was about an iconic character of wrestling fame: Randy 'Macho Man' Savage identifying as a woman and entering into contests where he would gain a decisive advantage. PC principal was grappling with the idea of his own being intolerant to Trans Savage and hilarity ensues.

Didn't this used to be comedy?
njdaymond8918 November 2019
Remember when South Park was political after the comedy? Writing topical plots around current world affairs in a tiny 1 week turn-around was always going to be tough on the season plots. Unfortunately, story lines are continuously putting politics before the comedy; even positive reviewers say how there are a mere couple of laughs per episode.

It's just not as funny since season 20. And who are all these people down voting those with criticism? So many long term fans share the view, there are now negative reviews on almost every episode since S20. --- EDIT: 1 out of 10 reviewers downvoted. I find this more and more suspicious among shows which are indeed faltering or failing. That aside, is it any wonder why Matt and Trey embarked on this linear story telling? To try and hook people each week, who want to know what happens next. Comedy Central were losing ratings, but it didn't work - Matt and Trey themselves spoke about this when they had to invent a new story line half way through season 20. Why do you think the rights to distribute the show to streaming services such as a Netflix and Amazon was finally granted?

Better episode
ericstevenson15 November 2019
This episode features a new intro. Instead of "Tegridy Farms", it's "PC Babies"! Just the idea of all these babies with sunglasses is funny. It mostly focuses on PC Principal and I must say, I really did feel for him here. The episode has a Randy Savage parody who identifies as female winning every strong women contest. I do wonder why they don't just call him (her) Randy Savage.

I mean, they always use the names of the real celebrities. Was that Randy voicing him (her)? A subplot is how girls try to play board games with the boys in the school. The way these two connect at the end might be the best part. I knew that last episode wasn't the season finale! If only they referenced "Warhammer 40K". ***1/2
