Chris is so stupid
rubenoftheorchard26 January 2023
Just have to say chris is so dumb. For one thing he's got no heart. But he's also and idiot. I'm on episode 13 and I just know he's gonna die quick cus he's so stupid. Every decision he's made from the protest he was at to now. He sneaks in Maddie and Alicia's room, Pulled a knife in them, held a kid at gun point, shot a guy.

The irony is that his dad is so smart and has a heart and empathy and is so much better.

I cannot stand Chris.

Just had to say that.

Other than that the show is great so far.

Brilliantly acted and subtle episode
guillaume_g-b23 January 2023
Chris estrangement with his dad is smartly and slowly brought up - and both actors play it really well, Travis in his frustration and Chris in his misguided righteousness. Special mention to Chris character, who I am starting to hate - a tribute to the actor (and writers) skill! Simultaneously, Madison's explanation to Alicia of why she didn't look after her daughter struck home, her being the "all right" kid versus her troubled, attention-demanding brother - I felt it was well thought out and delivered. Elsewhere however Nick's story is getting more and more boring - hope the writers can soon give the actor a chance to prove his worth and show us something more interesting.

Good Characters Development This Episode
ZegMaarJus16 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Real good character development this episode, espacially i praise Cliff Curtis in the role of Travis Manawa and his son Chris (Lorenzo James Henrie). But i think FTWD can be improved a lot more with more action and horror.

Brilliant Dialogue and Decent Character Development
nomis9427 September 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is top-notch character drama. The dialogue is well-written and I liked the acting throughout. The character development reaches a high-point in this episode. FTWD's writers did a very good job. This is the kind of episode that doesn't shine with action scenes - it shines with characters and emotions.

I loved it. The cliffhanger is nice. So many possibilities... There are going to be interesting developments for sure! I wonder if one of the camps (the hotel or the Colonia) will fall in this season... I think the last two episodes of season 2 are going to be crazy. Can't wait for next week! And I hope the good dialogue will keep up!

Most of the episode revolves around Chris and Travis, with book-ends at the hotel. There's not a lot of tension to be found
fernandoschiavi12 April 2024
Travis begins to treat the tourist, James,' wounded leg and buries the dead farmer. That night, Travis tries to warn Chris not to associate with the tourists, but Chris rebuffs him. One week later, the tourists decide to leave for San Diego, but James still hasn't fully recovered and cannot be moved. Fearing that James will be murdered by the others, Travis steals Chris' gun in an effort to protect him. Later, Chris tricks Travis in letting them in and they execute James. Travis tries one last time to convince Chris to come with him, but Chris leaves with the remaining two tourists as Travis curses his son.

In the present, Travis arrives at the hotel along with other desperate survivors and tells Madison what happened. He laments to Madison how he failed to take care of Chris. Later, Madison sees that the survivor group at the start of the episode have been allowed into the hotel compound, with them being checked to see if they're healthy or sick. Later that night, a new group of survivors arrive at the hotel, among them the James' friends Derek and Brandon.

Most of the episode revolves around Chris and Travis, with book-ends at the hotel. There's not a lot of tension to be found, even when director Christoph Schrewe attempts to make the fate of Sweet Baby James (he's the frat bro best known for being shot and screaming a lot) into something people care about. Travis is trying to defend the injured, trying to save at least one kid where he's failed with Nick and is failing with Chris, and yet... it doesn't hit home at all. Travis's thousand-yard stare and remorse over his son is kind of meaningless, since they both kind of did the right thing for themselves. Chris went with strength, and Travis went with his heart.

Neither choice is particularly interesting. We've seen this debate before, and it's been done better. Tellingly, it's not a surprise that the frat-boy killers show up at the gates of Hotel Paradise. There are two hours left in the season, and the wolves are already literally at the gates (with Chris unseen). The good people that were allowed in, thinking they've found a safe haven, might have just walked into a death camp, because if Maddie continues to make terrible decisions - as she has been since walking into the hotel - they're all doomed because two shooters with no conscience are more dangerous to this group than a hotel full of walkers. Especially because those shooters have been making very poor choices and will no doubt start arguing even when it's time to start shooting people trying to kill you.

Throughout the episode, as Travis kept crying and complaining about his son abandoning him, I was waiting for the boldest stroke this show could have made. Travis kept standing on the balcony, looking like he was ready to jump. He never did. Having a major character opt for suicide rather than living in a world that he cannot withstand morally might have been be too brave a move for a show like this.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE Episode and Relevant for today
jseph1234-262-61748810 August 2020
This Episode stirred up so many difficult emotions based on what occurs and the efforts of Travis and Madison to cope with what occurs.

I won't spoil it but needless to say that this episode is completely relevant to the hard choices that parents make with and for their children every day and with this being the world of the Walking Dead just makes it even more poignant.

The Father-Son Conflict In "Date Of Death"
lunasnowhehe10 June 2021
Chris adapts to the new world, but in a very wrong way. You can sense a peer pressure-type of situation occurring during this episode and in 210 regarding Chris & his new friends.

It's a heart wrenching masterpiece.

Travis, Chris & More Brutality
panagiotis199317 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Wow what an intense way to start the episode with all these people who want to enter the hotel and there is Travis! I think it's very interesting that Chris wants to be part of the group with the other guys and Travis is like nope. Wait did Chris choose these guys over his own father? Travis is right they should eat the eggs not the chicken, these guys are not smart. Travis wanted to properly bury the guy who owned the land, he is such a sweet guy. They were ready to leave their ''friend'' behind because he is injured, they are so selfish.

Wow Chris went against his own father to help kill the injured guy? Like I said in previous episodes, Chris is a villain. And I like this direction better for him than just being the guy who makes dumb decisions. Now he joined a group of villains and maybe that's for the best. I feel bad for Travis though, losing his son like that. Did they let 43 new people to enter the gates? That's a huge mistake. Alicia learning about how her father really died is brutal. I love the mother/daughter bond Madison and Alicia share. What's up with Victor though? Is he ok?

What was that ending? More people want to enter the hotel including Chris' group? That's insane. Amazing episode overall. My rating is 8.2/10.

Warning: Spoilers
2x13 Rating: 9.0/10

Storyline: A mass of desperate survivors arrive at the gate of the Rosarito Beach Hotel after spotting the neon sign that Madison flashed the previous night. Madison, Alicia, Elena, Oscar, and Hector stand guard, refusing entry. Madison sees Travis in the crowd and fights to let him in.

In a recent flashback, James writhes in agony after a farmer shot his leg in the Baja barn. The farmer lies dead on the ground following Chris' fatal gunshot. Travis orders Brandon, Derek and Chris to stop James' bleeding while he finds something to stitch up the wound.

Travis runs to the farmhouse and finds gauze, scissors, and sewing supplies.

Travis sews the entry wound shut then rolls James over to sew up the exit wound. James screams in pain. Travis assures the group that James will get better with time.

Travis buries the farmer next to his family and makes a cross for the headstone.

Brandon, Derek, and Chris laugh around a campfire while feasting on chicken and beer. Travis checks in with James and asks him to rate his pain on a scale of 1 to 10. James is hesitant to admit he's in pain in front of his friends. Travis urges James to alert him if his condition worsens.

Travis pulls an unrepentant Chris aside and chastises him for killing the farmer and feeling no remorse. Chris defends his actions and warns Travis to be careful how he acts with Brandon's crew. "We need them," he says.

In the present, Madison opens the gate for Travis but keeps the other survivors out.

Travis stares despondently at the ocean from a hotel balcony and asks Madison where Nick is. Madison says that Nick ran away, then asks where Chris is. Travis sits on the bed, emotionally overcome. "I had no choice," he says.

At the farm, a week has passed, and Brandon announces that they're moving on to their next location. Travis argues that James is not well enough, but James insists he's okay to travel. Derek says they're going to San Diego. Travis reiterates that San Diego was destroyed and asks Chris to back him up, but Chris says they never actually went to San Diego.

Travis finds the farmer's driver's license and carves the farmer's name onto the headstone. Chris tells him the group is waiting on him to leave. Travis snaps at Chris and orders them to wait.

Travis helps the others move James onto the truck. James winces but insists he's okay. As they start to drive, however, the pain becomes unbearable. James begs Travis not to tell Brandon, then passes out. Travis orders Brandon to stop.

That night, Travis overhears Brandon, Derek, and Chris discussing killing James. Chris points out that James isn't getting better. Travis insists he'll get better with time and that they can survive at the farmhouse long enough for him to recover. He grabs Chris' gun and refuses to let them kill James.

Travis guards James and informs him that his friends want to kill him. James explains that they had a friend, Troy, who became infected and made them promise to kill him before he turned. When the time came, however, Troy changed his mind. James says that he offered an apology to Troy before putting him down. Travis says this is different because James isn't dying, but James insists it doesn't matter as long as they think he's dying.

The next morning, Chris brings food to Travis in the barn and says he's afraid of Brandon and Derek. Travis assures him he'll be okay. They hug. Chris seizes the moment and tackles Travis, pinning him down. Brandon and Derek rush in. Brandon shoots James dead, despite the latter's pleas for mercy.

Later, Brandon and Derek load the truck. Travis, who is staying behind, desperately implores Chris to stay with him. Chris says he's better off without Travis, and says that he has adapted to the new world, whereas Travis hasn't. He leaves the farm with Brandon and Derek.

Travis buries James and then heads into the wilderness.

Back in the present, Travis finishes his story saying that he spent two days afterward searching for the ocean before seeing the hotel's lights. Madison assures Travis that he didn't have a choice and reminds him that Chris is still out there. Travis regrets not telling Chris that he loved him when they parted ways. Madison holds his hand.

Madison goes to the parking garage and finds it filled with survivors. Andrés explains that they let the 43 survivors in and are examining them for infection. Behind a curtain, Alicia examines a woman for bite wounds. Madison takes her for a walk.

On the pier, Madison tells Alicia that her father's car accident was actually a suicide. Alicia reels from the news and asks what the suicide note said. "I love you all, enough's enough," Madison says. She explains that she never told Alicia and Nick because she wanted to protect Nick, who she worried would end up like his father. She says the only reason she paid less attention to Alicia over the years was that she believed she was doing alright. They hug.

That night, a small group of survivors arrive at the hotel gate - including Brandon and Derek.

Unberable Characters in Another Awful Episode
claudio_carvalho2 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
In the farm, Chris betrays his father Travis and his new friends kill the wounded James. Then they leave Travis behind that sees the light and walks to the hotel. When he arrives, the hotel is under siege of dozens of survivors and Madison let them in. What will happen to the other refugees?

"Date of Death" is probably the worst episode of this infamous series "Fear the Walking Dead". In addition to the unbearable Chris, Travis and Madison, the viewer has to listen to corny revelations from Madison and Travis. The ham and expressionless Lorenzo James Henrie and Cliff Curtis are awful. My vote is three.

Mediocrity continues.
karlmccorry25 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I start watching this show after watching TWD and the big differences between the shows are there are a) too many unlikeable characters in this series and b) the storylines are terrible.

This episode continues the misery, I'm waiting for Morgan to come into it.

One episode left in me
m-yogibara26 September 2016
I'm trying so hard to stick with this show but after this episode I'm not sure if I can anymore. The episode ends up being a continuity mess with Travis leaving Chris, seeing the lights at the hotel and making it through the refugees that stand between him and the gate. Then we focus on Travis coping with his son being a deranged psycho for way too long. All the while a "mob" is trying to push their way into the hotel property. That's it, that's what the whole episode is about.

FTWD has lost its way and is now circling the drain of mediocrity and might have 1 season left in the tank. The writing is flat, acting is weak and the Madison character is a complete disaster. Between Alicia and Madison the writers should have had a field day with stories they could have told but instead we get the overbearing mother with a millennial daughter story retold (blah blah blah); neither of which make for good TV.

Here's how you fix the show: Kill off Alicia and/or Madison and Travis. Focus the story on Chris transforming into a "Negan" like character and Nick transforming into a strong leader of the post-apocalyptic world. What about Victor? Well they need to turn him back into a "Wolf" like he was in S1 and be done with the whole hotel story. Ugh.
