Cj Sansom, author of the best-selling historical Shardlake novels, which have been adapted for TV by Disney+, has died aged 71. He passed away on April 27 after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2012.
Sansom’s publisher, Pan Macmillan, announced his death yesterday on X.
“I shall miss him hugely, not only as a wonderfully talented writer who gave joy to millions, but as a dear friend of enormous compassion and integrity,” said his longtime editor Maria Rejt.
Sansom’s Shardlake series comprised seven novels following the titular Matthew Shardlake, a barrister with a hunchback who solves crimes while navigating the political intrigue and religious tensions under Henry VIII. The book series drew on his real-life experience as a lawyer for the disadvantaged in Sussex, a profession he was drawn to after obtaining a PhD in history from the University of Birmingham. With Scarlett Johansson now in talks to star in the new Jurassic World movie, scooper Daniel Richtman has added a couple more casting rumours to the fire. According to Richtman, Colman Domingo (Euphoria) and Dev Patel (Monkey Man) are being eyed to star in the Jurassic World relaunch.
There’s no information on who Dev Patel might play in the Jurassic World movie, but Richtman added that Colman Domingo is being eyed to play the villain. Take all this with a grain of salt for now, but Patel and Domingo would make for excellent additions to the cast.

Scarlett Johansson has found her next big franchise, and she's going to tangle with dinosaurs this time around. The "Black Widow" actor has officially entered talks to star in the new "Jurassic World" movie currently in the works at Universal Pictures. The project has been coming together very quickly behind the scenes in recent weeks. Should Johanson sign on the dotted line, it would provide some major A-list power to the proceedings.
The InSneider first reported the news a couple of weeks ago, but The Hollywood Reporter has now confirmed the development. There are currently no details on the character Johansson would be playing in the "Jurassic" universe. The indication is that this is going to be a fresh start for the franchise that could pave the way for a new trilogy. Two-time Oscar nominee Scarlett Johansson is in talks to join the Gareth Edwards-directed Jurassic World reboot at Universal.
This has been out there in the ether for some time, but it’s looking quite solid. This puts Johansson in business with another major movie franchise following her Black Widow days at Marvel, which resulted in the star suing Disney over the 2021 pandemic release of that movie, which the studio opted to go day-and-date on Disney+, thus siphoning box office grosses. The two sides ultimately settled.
Universal is assembling the project quickly for a July 2, 2025, release. David Koepp, who adapted the first Jurassic Park from Michael Crichton’s classic novel, is penning the latest iteration of Jurassic World.
The new movie is a fresh take on a Jurassic era with Jurassic World castmembers Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard not expected to return, nor the original trilogy’s thespians Jeff Goldblum,...

Scarlett Johansson is taking a bite out of a new blockbuster. The actor is in talks to join Universal’s new Jurassic World movie, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Universal is moving quickly on the film, which has a July 2, 2025, release date. Gareth Edwards is directing the new Jurassic World, which has a script from Jurassic Park scribe David Koepp. Edwards stepped into the role after David Leitch exited following a short attachment to the project.
The film returns Johansson to the world of franchises. She starred as Black Widow in a number of Marvel Studios movies, including the Avengers features, but unlike some co-stars in the superhero world, has had no trouble breaking out in other projects. She has earned two Oscar nominations, for Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit. Mutants in the Marvel Universe have always had a very dodgy history with artificial intelligence. The first problem that they faced was mutant-hunting robots called Sentinels, which seemed to go through an upgrade every few years. Now, a cosmic entity called Dominion threatens the mutant population, one who is destined to wipe them out. However, introducing this new cosmic entity inadvertently set up the next big villain who could make their way to the MCU in the wake of Avengers: Secret Wars.
Deadpool and Wolverine
Given that the X-Men will be making their way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is safe to say that after Avengers: Secret Wars, Marvel Studios will be making a lot more mutant-focused content, and while earth-bound villains like Bolivar Trask, Magneto, and William Stryker could be great villains, eventually scaling to cosmic threats like the Shi’ar Empire and Dominion could chart out a well planned cinematic universe,...

The Jurassic World trilogy starring Chris Pratt continued where Spielberg’s original Jurassic Park trilogy left off and expanded the universe of Michael Crichton’s original novel. Now, while Dominion was supposed to be the last movie in the series, but it was soon confirmed that a seventh film was in the works and as of today, we have some interesting casting rumors regarding the movie.
Back in January 2024, it was reported that a seventh movie was in the works, with the studio looking to do a soft reboot of the franchise; the film probably won’t erase the events of the two previous trilogies, but a fresh start is what the producers are looking for, which is why Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, Chris Pratt, and Bryce Dallas Howard are not expected to reprise their roles.

A new "Jurassic World" movie on the way, and it's happening in a hurry. In the span of just a month, we learned that original "Jurassic Park" writer David Koepp has returned to the franchise to pen this mysterious new entry, Universal Pictures is planning to release the film next summer, and they are looking to begin filming in just a few months. Given that we only learned about the movie's existence several weeks ago, it's all pretty surprising. So, who will be shepherding this project through production? None other than Gareth Edwards.
We recently learned that the filmmaker behind franchise films such as 2014's "Godzilla" and "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" will occupy the director's chair. It marks the third time that Edwards will helm an installment in a long-running franchise, which is never an easy task. Yet, both times that he stepped up to the plate, Edwards...

Welcome back, friends, to the latest episode of "As the Jurassic World Turns." When last we left our intrepid franchise (the one formerly known as "Jurassic Park"), it had just completed a trilogy of films with the "Jurassic World" rebrand moniker. Those films — 2015's "Jurassic World," 2018's "Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom," and 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion," were made under the auspices of director/co-writer Colin Trevorrow (with J.A. Bayona taking over the directing duties for "Fallen Kingdom") and followed Trevorrow's outline, seeing John Hammond's dream of resurrecting dinosaurs for theme park purposes come to fruition and then go wildly out of control, resulting in the entire planet becoming overrun with once-extinct species.
Given the unfortunately tepid reception that "Dominion" received, Universal and Steven Spielberg's Amblin Partners decided to fast-track a follow-up. It's still not altogether clear what this new installment will be following up; it retains the "Jurassic World" title for now,...

The "Jurassic World" franchise is simply too big to go extinct. We recently learned that not only is Universal Pictures developing a seventh entry in the long-running dinosaur franchise, but the movie is set to hit theaters next summer. Yes, assuming the release date holds, we'll be seated for a new blockbuster in which humans and dinos try to co-exist in just over a year. For the moment, the studio is remaining very tight-lipped about the film, which opens the door for us to speculate wildly. That's precisely what we're going to do, while not going too off the rails with unfounded theorizing.
Rather, as a self-proclaimed super-fan of the franchise, I am going to take you, dear reader, through the options that can reasonably be considered, broadly speaking, following 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion." We're going to go over each broad possibility, as well as the pros and cons of each approach.

Universal Pictures appears to be wasting precisely zero time in getting the "Jurassic World" franchise back up and running again. Even though we only recently learned that original "Jurassic Park" writer David Koepp has been working on a script for a new installment in the franchise, we've now learned that the studio has set a 2025 release date for the film. What's more, they're zeroing in on a big-name director to tackle the project in the form of David Leitch ("John Wick." "Deadpool 2").
According to Deadline, Leitch is in early talks to occupy the director's chair of the upcoming "Jurassic" film, which does not have a title yet but would be the seventh entry in the series overall. Leitch previously worked for Universal on the "Fast & Furious" spin-off "Hobbs & Shaw," which was a big success taking in $760 million at the global box office back in 2019. Universal Pictures will release an all new “Jurassic World” event film on July 2, 2025, the studio announced on Monday.
David Koepp will write the screenplay, which is said to launch a new storyline. “The Fall Guy” director David Leitch is in very early talks to direct the next installment of the franchise.
While plot details are scarce, insiders say that the film will start a new storyline separate from the trilogy of “Jurassic World” films that starred Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and saw the eventual inclusion of “Jurassic Park” stars Sam Neill, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and B.D. Wong.
The Jurassic film franchise has proven remarkably resilient at the box office, so it is unsurprising that Universal wants to continue the series. Though box office returns have declined with each new “Jurassic World” installment, all three movies – 2015’s “Jurassic World,” 2018’s “Fallen Kingdom,” and 2022’s “Dominion” – managed to surpass $1 billion globally.

Mark your calendar for Wednesday July 2, 2025 for the new Jurassic World movie, which is a reboot.
As Deadline’s Dish just reported, the next installment is looking to be directed by David Leitch off David Koepp’s screenplay. The movie will center around a new Jurassic era sans the franchise’s previous actors over the course of its 31 years, read Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern and Sam Neill.
Through six movies, the Steven Spielberg produced dinosaur series has racked up $6 billion worldwide. The recent trilogy of Jurassic World movies posted the franchise’s top three best grosses, i.e. the 2015 edition ($1.67M billion WW), 2018’s Fallen Kingdom ($1.3 billion) and last year’s Dominion ($1B WW).
Universal always had this date on hold for an event film; the only other title opening against Jurassic World will be an untitled Angel Studios movie on July 4 next year.

It was recently revealed that Universal Pictures is developing a new movie in the "Jurassic World" franchise, with David Koepp penning the screenplay. That was big news because Koepp, who has frequently collaborated with director Steven Spielberg during his long career, penned the script for the original "Jurassic Park." Given the love that movie still has more than 30 years later, it's a big deal. And, given that Koepp hasn't worked on this franchise since "The Lost World," it's a curious development. That part was, indeed, surprising. What should not surprise anyone, though, is the fact that Universe is making another movie set in this universe.
There are undoubtedly those amongst you who groaned when thinking about another one of these movies. To say that the "Jurassic World" trilogy is divisive would be an understatement. Some gigantic news today for lovers of dinosaur-centric cinema, as one of the original creatives behind "Jurassic Park" is returning to the fold more than 30 years later. The "Jurassic World" trilogy may have ended in 2022 with the release of "Jurassic World Dominion," but Universal Pictures is evidently trying to keep the series alive with a new movie -- one that might be coming our way sooner rather than later. While details are scarce for the time being, it has come to light that none other than David Koepp is writing a new movie in the franchise.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Koepp is not only writing a new "Jurassic" movie, but it is pretty far along in the development process. So much so that a 2025 release date is said to be possible, which would be downright remarkable given that this is the first thing we've officially heard about the film.

Just because “Jurassic World Dominion” earned the lowest box office total of the new ‘World’ trilogy, you didn’t think we’d be done with the ‘Jurassic’ franchise, did you? Silly reader, of course not! Two years after ‘Dominion’ served as a sort of kind of ending for both ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Jurassic World’ franchises, it appears Universal is full steam ahead on a new ‘Jurassic’ adventure.

We’ve all had imaginary friends, right? Well, probably not ones like Chauncey! Take a look at the Imaginary trailer here.
Jason Blum’s horror studio Blumhouse have been raking in the profits with Five Nights At Freddy’s, which has exceeded all expectations when it comes to dominating the box office. Horror has always been a particularly profitable genre and Blumhouse are now looking for an early 2024 hit with Imaginary.
Take a look at the first, spooky trailer below.
Starring Jurassic World: Dominion’s DeWanda Wise, Imaginary asks the terrifying question: are our imaginary friends just imaginary, or something a little more sinister? Maybe they murder people. Wouldn’t that be positively ghoulish?
Wise plays Jessica, who moves her family to her childhood home. Jessica’s stepdaughter Alice finds a talking teddy bear in the basement named Chauncey. Chauncey makes her do things, including showing a nail in her arm.

For 30 years, the "Jurassic Park" films have helped keep prehistoric beasts on the big screen, dating back to Steven Spielberg's original, groundbreaking blockbuster. Ever since, this has pretty much been the only game in town as far as dinosaurs go. Sure, other movies have tried to do dino action on a large scale, such as the recent Adam Driver sci-fi flick "65," but nothing ever seems to truly click with audiences in a meaningful way. At least not nearly on the level that these movies have for three decades.
Across three decades and spanning six films, the franchise has come a long way. For anyone looking to revisit the series, or perhaps anyone who fell off at some point and wishes to get back on board to see what John Hammond's dream of uniting dinosaurs and mankind together after 65 million years resulted in, we've got you covered. So,...

“The Exorcist” is, rightfully, heralded as one of the greatest, scariest films of all time. And in the 50 years since its 1973 release, filmmakers have tried, repeatedly, to recapture the magic that made the original film so special, to mixed results.
The latest attempt is “The Exorcist: Believer,” from director David Gordon Green, which returns Ellen Burstyn to the franchise for the first time since 1973 and focuses on a new phenomenon – synchronized possession. It’s meant to be the first of a new trilogy of films. And its release (it’ll be on PVOD on October 24) is enough to have us look back at the entire franchise thus far. Which films are scary good and which are ones that you’d rather spider-walk down the stairs to get away from? Read on to find out.

The Exorcist: Believer is now playing in theaters. The first part in a proposed trilogy from Halloween director David Gordon Green and Blumhouse promised to be a direct follow-up to the original 1973 masterpiece, ignoring every single sequel that came before. That’s right, The Exorcist had numerous sequels, the last of which was released almost 20 years ago.
Most of them are… not good. And none of them have come even close to William Friedkin’s original classic. But that’s okay. Because the reality is, nothing ever will.

The Exorcist is my choice for the best horror movie of all time. Some may say Rosemary’s Baby or The Shining or Night of the Living Dead, but as a good Catholic boy, nothing has ever gotten under my skin the way William Friedkin’s original did. But, with great success comes the desire for Hollywood to make a hit into a franchise, but Friedkin was not a franchise director. He famously turned down French Connection II, but the studio, perhaps noticing how the second French Connection turned out decently, decided to go ahead and turn it into a franchise. Still, the results, with one notable exception were a disaster. So without any further adieu, here’s our list of Exorcist movies ranked – from worst to best.
Exorcist II: The Heretic

Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation lawsuit against right-wing news outlet Newsmax will get its day in court this fall — right before the 2024 voting begins.
A Delaware judge scheduled the $1.6 billion suit to go to trial in late September 2024, CNN reported. Dominion sued Newsmax, One America News (Oan) and former Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne for defamation in August 2021 over its coverage of the 2020 election.
The voting machine company already emerged victorious in a similar suit against Fox News, walking away with a $787 million settlement, believed to be the largest defamation settlement in US history.
Oan also settled with Dominion earlier this month, CNN reported. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed. The Byrne case, along with a series of other suits Dominion brought against Trump allies like Rudy Giuliani and “My Pillow” CEO Mike Lindell are still pending, Reuters reported.

Despite the fact that "Jurassic Park" came out more than 30 years ago, Steven Spielberg's modern classic has once again proved itself an enduring staple in popular culture. Even though it was late for the official anniversary, Universal Pictures re-released the 1993 blockbuster in theaters this past weekend, specifically in 3D, to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the film's original release. Even though it wasn't a smashing success, it was still decent money in the bank for Spielberg and the studio.
"Jurassic Park" earned $1.7 million over the weekend, largely from showings at big theater chains such as AMC and Regal, per The Numbers. The movie played on just over 1,200 screens and placed 14th on the charts. Even though it didn't crack the top 10, it still managed to have a better per-screen average than some of this summer's big, recent releases such as Disney's "Haunted Mansion" and "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning...

Numbers have begun rolling in for this mid-summer weekend and as expected Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is looking to drop the 60% we predicted on Thursday. If that number holds it would be about a 5% steeper decline than 2008’s Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, which may not sound like much until you consider that Skull opened with over $100 million (or $126.9 million when you account for its 4-day Memorial Day gross.) So when Crystal Skull dropped to number 2 in its second week to the ladies of Sex and the City, it was still able to manage over $44 million, Dial of Destiny will be lucky to see $28 million in its second week.
If there is a glimmer of hope for Indy to maintain its pole position it is that horror films tend to be very front loaded and because of that, Insidious: The Red Door may win the Friday box...

On Wednesday night, legendary goth-rockers The Sisters of Mercy returned to the United States to kick off their first state-side tour in nearly 15 years. Playing to a full house at The Fillmore Silver Springs outside of Washington, D.C., the band delivered a 23-song set, featuring 10 previously-unreleased tunes. Watch videos of the concert and check out the full setlist below.
Opening with the new song “Don’t Drive On Ice,” The Sisters’ did include some of their classic hits, like “Lucretia My Reflection,” “Temple of Love,” “More,” “Dominion,” and more. The new songs, meanwhile, show off songwriter Andrew Eldritch’s recent creative output, and the fact that, despite having not released an album since 1990, he’s still in the writing game.
The 19-date tour will next stop at this weekend’s Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, which will also feature System of a Down, Korn, Deftones, and more.

In a week when distributors and exhibitors reconvene for their annual Las Vegas meet-up CinemaCon and celebrate the post-pandemic resurge of the box office, the motion picture industry is also bracing for a potential Writers Guild of America strike.
With production and deal-making slowing down — especially with 98% of WGA West and WGA East members authorizing a strike if a fair new film/TV deal isn’t met by the May 1 deadline — how could that possibly dent the box office boom, one Gower Analytics projects will result in an estimated $32 billion globally, up 24% from last year, and $9 billion stateside, up 200%?
Just as a majority of exhibitors are getting back on their feet financially after Covid’s great shutdown of 2020-21, studio sources outlined a worst-case scenario to Deadline should the WGA strike span more than four months.
In short, the theatrical release calendar would see several date changes for pics, as soon as Q4 this year.

On Wednesday night, Jimmy Kimmel went after Ron DeSantis during his opening monologue. While discussing Florida’s recently expanded Don’t Say Gay bill, the late-night host blasted the governor for attempting to one-up Donald Trump.
“The good news is that that there are apparently schools in Florida. The bad news is that the Florida Board of Education, which is almost an oxymoron — moron part, for sure, and probably some oxy in there too,” Kimmel said. “Under these expanded laws, teachers will no longer be able to discuss gender or sexual orientation with their students, not even 12th grade students.”
“This is what Ron DeSantis has been pushing as he tries to prove he’s more ridiculous than Donald Trump,” Kimmel added.

Like a lot of people on Tuesday, Jimmy Kimmel was very disappointed that the defamation lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News ended in a settlement. But Kimmel didn’t just call out Fox News which, all things considered got a pretty good deal. He also dinged Dominion for abandoning the high-minded justifications it insisted were behind the lawsuit.
“They took the money instead,” Kimmel declared, adding later that “[Fox] can go right back to sodomizing the country, while Dominion and their lawyers go shopping for yachts, I guess.”
For those catching up, Dominion sued Fox News for defamation because the network, as part of its larger efforts to platform Donald Trump’s lies about the 2020 election, allowed its on-air talent and many guests to spread lies that Dominion somehow helped rig the election for Joe Biden, doing tremendous damage to Dominion’s business.
And they had a very strong case.

Instead of discussing or even acknowledging Fox News’ settlement with Dominion Voting Systems earlier in the day, Tucker Carlson aired the second part of his interview with Elon Musk on Tuesday. And during this second installment of the meandering exchange, Musk advanced a curious idea about reproductive freedom, telling Carlson that birth control and abortion are contributing to the end of civilization.
Here’s how that came up. At one point, Musk said that procreation has been ”’subverted” somehow. Carlson asked Musk, “The urge to have sex and to procreate is, after breathing and eating, the most basic urge. Yes. How has it been subverted?”

Though he’s barely started on his vision to transform Twitter into a super-app, Elon Musk now says he’s going to dive into the artificial intelligence chatbot arena to save the world from “political correctness.”
Musk told Tucker Carlson on Monday that he plans to create his own chatbot, after taking credit for jumpstarting the development of ChatGPT, the hugely popular chatbot software from OpenAI.
“I’m going to start something which I called TruthGPT, or a maximum truth seeking AI that tries to understand the nature of the universe,” Musk told Tucker Carlson on Monday.
Elsewhere in his “Tucker Carlson Tonight” interview, the embattled Twitter CEO boasted that he came up with the name “ChatGPT” as well as the concept and “had a number of dinners around the Bay Area with some of the leading figures in AI” through its development.

After a one-day delay and amidst whispers of settlement talks, Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion defamation trial against Fox News is set to begin Tuesday in Wilmington, De.
So, with final jury selection having just started and then opening statements looming before Judge Eric M. Davis, what are the main issues in Dominion vs. Fox? What are the stakes? Who are the players? Could Fox win?
We have some answers.
Leaving aside the chatter about the fate of the crown jewel of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire, the mogul’s own legacy and the future of news coverage in an age of disinformation, the trial could ultimately come down to the First Amendment for defendant Fox News and who knew what and when for Dominion. That said, after all the motions and depositions, there is every reason to expect this trial will be chock-full of moments of drama, with the 92-year-old...

For years, Rupert Murdoch has been viewed as an all-powerful media mogul. But Vanity Fair special correspondent Gabriel Sherman, who launched his own investigation into the Murdoch family and Fox News, argues the 92-year-old is actually a “very old man” whose health has been “failing for a very long time.” And on “CNN This Morning” Thursday, co-host Don Lemon reported that “there are signs” that HBO’s hit drama “Succession” “has been getting under his skin.”
“I think now we’re just catching up to the fact that he’s a shell of what he used to be,” Sherman told Lemon, breaking down his viral deep-dive on the media mogul and his family, published Wednesday via Vanity Fair.
Sherman argued that Dominion Voting System’s defamation lawsuit against Fox News has been a direct result of Murdoch’s “diminished leadership.”
“There has really been this vacuum at the top of...

This Star Trek: Picard review contains spoilers.
Star Trek: Picard Season 3 Episode 9
The penultimate episode of Star Trek: Picard season 3 is an hour it feels like we’ve been waiting weeks to see. “Vox,” thankfully, seems to understand that there are two episodes left in this entire series and acts accordingly. The end result is an hour that may not be perfect from a narrative perspective, but that definitely hits all the right notes when it comes to the heart and emotion that have made this season of Picard such an improvement over the two that have come before it.
After largely spinning its wheels through “Dominion” and “Surrender”, two mediocre installments notable only for the return of Deanna Troi and the successful merging of Data’s multiple personalities, the series’ sudden dash through a half dozen major plot points at once is certainly a welcome change, if only because...

A month after documents released as part of Dominion’s defamation lawsuit against Fox News revealed that Tucker Carlson once said he hated Donald Trump “passionately,” Carlson has booked the indicted former president for an interview.
Carlson will interview Trump on April 11 episode of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” Fox News announced Thursday.
The one-on-one interview will take place at Trump’s Florida home at Mar-a-Lago. Fox noted this will be Trump’s first interview since arrested on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records related to his alleged role in hush money payments to Stormy Daniels.

Deadline’s Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament took a hiatus during the pandemic as movie theaters closed for the majority of 2020-2021 and theatrical day-and-date titles on both the big screen and studios’ respective streaming platforms became more prevalent. Coming back from that brink, the studios have largely returned to their theatrical release models and the downstream monies they can bring. Not to mention their power in launching IPs around the world with big global marketing campaigns. When it comes to evaluating the financial performance of top movies, it isn’t about what a film grosses at the box office. The true tale is told when production budgets, P&a, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses, and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. To get close to that mysterious end of the equation, Deadline is repeating our Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament for 2022, using data culled by seasoned and trusted sources.
