When worlds collide

Warning: Spoilers
Alight, I'll be the odd one out; this is 1) very good and 2) the best episode in the season so far.

I don't get the criticism and hate. If anything, this feels the most like Star Wars of the first five episodes. I really liked the conflict and set-up for the Jedi characters, and the payoff between him and the Sith Lord felt very earned and insanely fascinating. I would 100% have watched a movie or mini series about these characters. Maybe Lucasfilm should hire some of the Visions writers to write their movies if they want something that actually feels familiar yet original.

The art direction, animation and especially the directing were on top form. I liked much of the Anime Star Wars last season, and this was a solid return to form. Very good.

Probably the most "anime" episode of the season
FloppingSeal4 May 2023
This one will likely either be well liked or divisive. I'm not really sure which. I think a lot of people were against the idea of "anime" merging with Star Wars and while most of this series experiments with a lot of styles that stray far from traditional anime, this feels very much like modern anime. You have a style that looks a lot like something such as Solo Leveling. You have a male and female lead with different abilities that cooperate well in battle, but bicker non-stop out of battle. You have crazy combat with multiple types of weapons. If you're a fan of any shonen series, you'll probably like this one. If anime annoys you, this may not be for you.

I happened to like this one a lot and it ties for my favorite in the season. This is also the episode that feels the most "Star Wars" as it delves into the struggle between the dark side and light that we've seen time and time again in the movies and shows in the past.

If there's an entire anime made out of Star Wars, this is the one

Studio Mir made an excelent job in direction, storytelling and likable characters in just 18-ish minutes. Not even mentioning the outstanding art direction and animation. They really pulled off the best they could do here.

If there's ever a show or movie (trilogy even) using the particular anime style, this right here is how it should look like. Don't get me wrong, I love Studio Trigger and what they did in Season 1, but seeking for the right tone and pacing that a story, such as Star Wars requires; Studio Mir simply nailed it.

Just imagine what a canon limited series (12 or 24 episodes) based on Knights of the Old Republic in this style and direction could look like.

I gave screechers creak a 10 , i am giving this episode a 5
suvechhabose7 May 2023
As i said Screechers creak was unpredictable, had good storyline, slowly unraveling, tbh i found no antagonist. Morally it had s message, yhe 2d drawing style felt superb

But this?

If i wanted to see Anime & star wars I would very much like to go & see star wars galaxy of Adventures Why would i give it a chance? Because of new , refreshing story But in this episode We got a classic Anakin story & Doctor Aphara story

What would it happen if Ani instead of Padme would have met Aphara ~ Pretty much predictable in story Characters felt physically strong but emotionally weak, specifically the tech girl.

Villain had zero backstory Hero s backstory has been repeated before like 8 or 9 times in other Star wars adventures. Giving it a 5 just because of the lightsaber action. But that's just it. Not sorry.

'tis mir-ly a scratch.

The fifth addition to this second run of "Star Wars Visions" takes things back to more traditional narrative after Aardman's joyous Northern nonsense. Korean animation studio Mir provide another visually arresting short film, if perhaps one that's a bit forgettable storyline wise.

Ara (Ashley Park) is a mechanic at the Jedi temple. All her life, she's believed that destroying a statue on her home planet could be the key to tipping the war between the Jedi and Sith in the Jedi's favour. She convinces the Jedi council to try, but they insist that Toul (Eugene Lee Yang), a padawan who's master was recently killed, accompany her. They return to the planet but discover that the Sith Lord Bichan (Daniel Dae Kim) who murdered Toul's master, is already there.

Again, beautiful work to look at. There's a watercolour aspect to it, even going so far as to (I assume) replicate the texture of the paper that it would have been drawn on. There's a dynamism to it too, particularly in the sabre battles, that is really well done.

Storyline wise though I wasn't wild about it. The need for balance between the Jedi and Sith has been well work, so it wasn't much of a surprise when the revelations about the statues come out. Anger leading to hate has also been pretty well covered, so again that aspect of Toul's story was cool, but not particularly new.

Again, nothing wrong with this one, but I won't remember it in a couple of weeks.

Is this written by idiots
jonny39396 May 2023
I just don't get it, the themes in the dialogue are super childish, But yet they're showing people getting their heads locked off. Everybody says this is in the anime type theme, But couldn't the dialogue be smarter? I'm having a hard time with this whole series everything is so off point. They're spending the money they're doing the work can it be just better, after hearing everybody so negative on the Mandalorian which I enjoyed, this doesn't fit in. I'm turning these off half way through going why am I watching this? I really wanted to like it. I honestly did I have the close captioning on so I'm reading this as well and it's just bad.

Stereotype of anime as style over substance come to life
sevskirita5 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was disappointing after the excellent prior episodes this season and feel a lot like what Visions Volume 1 mostly was.

The story is mostly style and cheesy dialogue like "how pointless", meanwhile the substance like Toul facing himself or Zara discovering the importance of light and dark feels so trivial and convoluted because of the poor execution. It does what the first episode did but worse, although the waves bit and the style of certain things like the hidden template and tattoos are nice. The payoff of Toul and Ara becoming friends and their previous conflict felt very superficial.

This to me is sub-par. It's a shame that this is what gets highly rated meanwhile masterpieces like Into the Stars and Screecher's Reach get eh reviews.
