Got Me With Sheesh! Cab, Bob?
richard.fuller17 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
H. Jon Benjamin was best used in Home Movies as the coach who had frank discussions with kids no parent would want a coach to have with their kids, then he would become frustrated by the simplest of things.

On Bob's Burgers, he so far hasn't really gotten a chance to shine, first he is domesticated, and clearly the wife and kids have been built up to be irritants for Bob. Still, the responses from Bob have been sparse.

Oh, the show has been good. Bob's best moment so far using Benjamin's voice was when he handed out the can of pee while confined within the wall.

The burglar at the dinner theatre episode was good too, but again, not because of Bob.

Whatever the reason, Sheesh! Cab, Bob? soared. Perhaps because at last there was a focus on Tina instead of making her the butt of jokes, likewise the dominant other characters also focused on her.

But above all else, Bob got to use the Benjamin voice how it is used best; speaking casually of offbeat, controversial characters and becoming upset at simple things.

The show seems reluctant do fleshed-out townspeople like The Simpsons has done, but how could we never have Marshmallow return? Linda is truly a breakthrough in doing away with the perfect mother Marge Simpson role (thank you, Peggy Hill), but while Peggy said and did stupid things, she was voiced intelligently by Najimy.

Linda is a dimbulb. If this woman ever does anything to emote sympathy, she will bring tears to my eyes (something Marge nor Lisa Simpson have ever done with their crying bits) Linda's attempt to dance and cheer up Tina just struck me as too funny, especially as it was used in Fox's animation domination commercial for a flabbergasted Simpsons family looking on.

But again, unlike the Simpsons episode when Lisa realized Homer was working himself into exhaustion to pay for her pony (her selfishness was never pinpointed in that episode), it was either Lisa herself or Marge who had to make Lisa realize what Homer was doing for her.

Tina had drag queens. Hello! It's known as humor.

Perhaps Bob will branch out some time later on with the Kevin Kline character (probably why Kline voiced the character).

Bob's Burgers has been good, very good, but this episode cinched that the creators know what to do with the show. Hope they don't blow it.

1x6: Sheesh! Cab, Bob?

Warning: Spoilers
Wow now this is the episode that made this one of my favorite Adult animation shows and easily the best out of the fox lineup. This episode hits all the feels and the comedy perfectly. This episode also puts Bob on the map as IMO one of the best animated fathers on Tv. He doesn't use his kids as a punchline and actually does things to show the audience he really does love his kids. Name me another dad out of the animated shows that would shave his mustache off for his arch nemesis just for his daughter to be able to have his son to come over to her party. Also the main plot of this episode is Bob getting another job as a cab driver so he can get Tina a great 13th birthday. The ending is one of the best of the show, up there with Glued, Where's my Bob in season 6. This is easily my favorite of season 1 and one of my favorites of the show. The show also handles Transvestites very maturely for a show like this. Bob getting drunk with them and invited them over to the party was also very funny. This is just a fantastic episode and one of the reasons why I think it's one of the best animated shows on Tv right now.

Good Dad

Warning: Spoilers
Bob is willing to work at the restaurant during the day and drive a taxi for Mr. Fishoder ( their eccentric landlord) at night so Tina can have the 13th birthday party she wishes for.

Along the way Bob makes some unexpected friends who help him humiliate Jimmy Pesto Sr. Problem is Tina wants her first kiss from Jimmy Pesto jr and Jimmy jr can't come unless Bob shaves his mustache and gives it to Jimmy Sr. (Yes he's really that petty) Lots of laughs and as we see Bob in his moonlighting job and the preparations for the party back at the restaurant.

One of the funniest lines for me is as Bob is leaving for the first night on the job Tina gives him traffic information and when he asked her how she knows she tells him she listens to traffic reports. Why he asked because she says she likes when they say " bumper to bumper." So weird because I did too ! Loved it when the traffic reporter said that! I have no idea why but it's a random thing you just don't think others would care about.

Amazing writing and some adding layers to the main characters in this early episode.
