It pays to be a double-crosser.
After throwing his Roy in-laws and wife Shiv under the bus in front of their patriarch Logan Roy (Brian Cox) as they tried to stage a coup for control of Waystar Royco, what exactly is next for Tom Wambsgan in season 4 of HBO’s Succession?
The Brutus-like twist for a character was so good, TV Academy voters gave Matthew Macfadyen his first Primetime Emmy win in the category for Best Supporting Actor, Drama Series.
How soon after that family backstabbing does season 4 continue?
“We pick up a little bit of time after the dust has sort of settled. Not very much though,” Macfadyen said backstage.
“It’s a good ending, it sets up the story going forward,” teased the actor.
“He thinks he is just looking out for himself,” says Macfadyen, “You could argue he has suffered from the hands of his brothers-in-law and his wife.

With an embargo now lifted, let me express some real deference towards what Sir Ridley Scott was able to do with All the Money in the World at the 11th hour. His decision to recast a crucial role, essentially firing Kevin Spacey months after production had ended and replacing him with Christopher Plummer, mere weeks before release, seemed misguided at best and a disaster at worst. Yet, here we are, three Golden Globe nominations later. Having seen the film last week, I can vouch for it being pretty good. When you think about what Plummer and Scott pulled off at the last minute though, that helps to set it apart. The movie is a look at the infamous kidnapping of 16 year old John Paul Getty III (Charlie Plummer) and the desperate attempt launched by his devoted mother Gail (Michelle Williams) to convince his billionaire grandfather Jean Paul Getty (Plummer) to...

With its cast of skeletons and macabre "I see dead people" vibe, Coco may be the strangest thing ever to come out of the Pixar animation factory. That's a good thing. Their latest animated movie finds the company spreading its wings and pushing into new territory, including betrayal and murder, without neglecting its family franchise responsibilities. It's a tricky business, which Pixar, mostly, pulls off in high style.

I’m sure you can picture the scene: Our two heroes, one male and one female, suddenly realize they are under attack. What happens next? Before I was a filmmaker, I was a film critic. I did that for a solid decade. I mention that an awful lot in interviews and pieces because it’s a part of my life I’m particularly proud of. I love the industry and a lot of the people I came up with who now run it. What I don’t often talk about is that Rotten Tomatoes played a big part in why I left. When that site first started to come together, I saw the writing on the wall and knew that it would change the way traffic to reviews worked forever – and that I might wake up one day to find there wasn’t a job for me anymore. What I didn’t see was how profoundly it would not only reshape the way film critique was digested, but how movies themselves opened.

"I felt like destroying something beautiful." From Fight Club's lips to the Night King's ears. (Does he have ears?)
The signature image of "Beyond the Wall" – the last episode of Game of Thrones Season Seven before its finale next week – is that of one of Daenerys's dragons (one of her children) gushing blood as it plummets, mortally wounded by a White Walker's enchanted icicle spears. "Beautiful" wasn't the first word that came to mind when Dany asked Jon Snow what he thought of these monsters last week, but that's what they are.

Now that Netflix is canceling shows, rival executives are more than happy to welcome them back down to earth.
Netflix made waves recently when CEO Reed Hastings admitted that the streaming service needed to strike a balance with its lineup and start trimming some underperforming shows from its roster. Soon after, it cut “Sense8” and “The Get Down.”

Added Hulu head of content/senior VP Craig Erwich, “they are capitalists, so I assume at any time they’re making the best decisions. If canceling shows is at the phase they are where it makes sense.”

[Editor’s note: The following review contains spoilers for the “The Leftovers” Season 3, Episode 4, “G’Day Melbourne.”]
Immediate Reaction
I doubt there’s a more telling shot for “The Leftovers” than the close-up of Nora sitting on the hotel bed, post-fight, as water from the sprinklers streams over her eyelid, masking the tears rolling down her cheek. Not only does it sum up the episode (and the pivotal final scene, which began with her putting tin foil over the smoke detector so she could have a cigarette), but it reflects the series’ predominant themes of grief and the misleading expressions of that grief.
Nora was crying, but anyone who walked in the room would just see water on her face — not tears. Anyone who walked in on her getting shot in the chest during Season 1 would see just that: a shocking act, not a woman trapped in a permanent cycle of mourning. If someone found out Kevin was talking to dead people, they’d see a man...

‘Last Week Tonight’: John Oliver Visits a Very French Bistro to Explain Terrifying Elections — Watch
John Oliver turned HBO’s “Last Week Tonight” into a scene right out of classic French Cinema on Sunday in an attempt to persuade the French not to elect a “demagogic asshole” in presidential candidate Marine Le Pen. Oliver began the show by explaining that the upcoming French presidential election could very well determine the fate of the European Union.

“It is way more important than you might realize,” Oliver said. “Multiple candidates support a French Brexit, and the consequences of that would be steep.” He added that as much as a third of French voters might abstain from voting, a result that would only help Le Pen’s chances.
Switching the setting from his news desk to a French bistro in black and white and lighting a cigarette, Oliver then proceeded to speak entirely in...

Are you a fan of late-career Robert De Niro and slow covers of The Police hits? You’re in luck: The latest trailer for HBO Films’ upcoming Bernie Madoff biopic, “The Wizard of Lies,” has plenty of both.
Over the melancholy strains of “King of Pain,” we get our first look at De Niro as Madoff, the architect of a investment-based Ponzi scheme that cratered in late 2008. Judging by the footage in this first extended look, the film focuses more on the collapse, media response, and highly publicized trial than the events that led to them. Luckily, that means more of Michelle Pfeiffer as Madoff’s wife Ruth, who looks to be the character most capable of delivering this film’s standout moments.

Well, that didn't turn out the way I expected. Or the way Mother expected, either, I suppose.
Dylan returned home on Bates Motel Season 5 Episode 7, and while it seemed his death was imminent, he actually lived. All thanks to Norman.
And that wasn't the only surprise. Norman also called the cops on himself to report that he murdered Sam Loomis. What a silly thing for a boy to do, especially after all the hard work he and Mother did to get rid of the body and all the evidence.
Mother did not teach him well it seems.
Or maybe Mother just gave him too much slack.
All I know is that I hope we're not going to spend the rest of the season with Norman in a mental institute or in jail because that would be, well...boring.
What will Sheriff Romero do now that he's alive and kicking again...
