This was so confusing..
rallder1919 August 2021
This episode jumped back and forth between reality and non-reality so much that it leaves you scratching your head. The only way to truly enjoy this episode is to not think about it too much. It wasn't scary.. the script wasn't complex.. it honestly just seemed like a tribute episode more than an actual canon one..

Nope. And WHY IN EARTH is season 2 in the works?
dpoland-7658920 August 2021
The only good episode was Ba'al. This spin off lived up to its name horror only in the sense that it was bordering on horrible. Sad but hope AHS 10 delivers.

Worst episode yet
thebrothers-567-7899420 August 2021
The son in the show says "I never want to see or hear one more thing about Murder House again." and I couldn't agree more.

Absolutely Not
tymoody19 August 2021
Saying I am disappointed is an understatement. It progressively got worse and worse as the episode continued. The story made absolutely no sense at all. They tried to break the fourth wall so many times I couldn't tell where we were in the universe. And that ending. Wow. I love American Horror Story, but this is the biggest piece of garbage I have seen. The Naughty List was a better episode than this and that says a lot. If they had more episodes like Feral maybe this show would be a success. I'm honestly in awe with how bad this episode was. It didn't progress the murder house story at all based on that "twist" ending. The script and dialogue seemed like it was thrown together last minute. Your brain might hurt watching this one because mine sure did. They brought back Ben Harmon and acted like that would make the episode good. Also, don't expect any other familiar ghosts because him and a 5 second clip of Addie is it. Please stop rushing these stories and get it together.

I didn't hate it
Chrisnsports9219 August 2021
It was kind of fun, different but I think if you go in open you're okay with it. That being said I can understand and agree with the folks who gave this a low rating. Its not typical AHS and we were also given some pretty big promises that fell short. That being said, if you go in with no expectations and accept it for what it is I think most will enjoy it.

Pretentious waste of time
tcain-0216419 August 2021
3 out of the 7 episodes was about Murder House which is just another way of Ryan and Brad saying out loud that they have ran out of ideas. It's apparent they are the mom in this episode with being obsessed with Murder House.

This whole meta forth wall breaking is just a cop out and it reminds me of a 'it was all just a dream' scenario. Cool and unique? No. Pretentious, self obsessed, and completely unoriginal? Yes. Bad writing and terrible execution. Horrid spin-off season.

Not as bad as it's made to be
jackrlove3119 August 2021
Look, I get it. We are tired of Ryan Murphy milking the defining season of AHS, but this is far from the worst episode this season. It is extremely self congratulatory, which got obnoxious pretty fast, but I'd rather have a continuation of a story (doesn't require 30 minutes to establish) than another 40 minute episode where the good stuff is saved for the last 5 minutes and gets rushed over. Compared to the other two Murder House episodes this one isn't as good, but it's certainly not the worst American Horror Stories episode by a long shot.

can they stop milking murder house
skyemonet19 August 2021
Murder house once had a legacy, everyone agreed that it was one of the best seasons of ahs, but to me, that legacy is fading away, they need to stop making content with the murder house as the main or sub plot, i remember getting excited about apocalypse, but now i'm just like.. murder house.... again?

They're really ruining the original material that fans once loved, please stop milking murder house and let it's legacy continue.

A Fun Silly Meta-Trip through the AHS Universe
radicallygeeky20 August 2021
I feel like a lot of reviews on here are pressed over this episode being a bit all over the place.

What I enjoy about American Horror Story is how campy, ridiculous and silly it can get. A Lot of great horror films have that charm and its influence on AHS should be made clearer. It's been a while since there's been a main season, but I feel like people have forgotten how the show does not try to be serious horror. It can be inconsistent at times and a little bit stupid. But it's also always fun and that is the important thing.

This episode is just a bit of a meta-joke, mostly at the expense of the nitpicking fans who want AHS to be one type of show while contradicting themselves by wanting it to be something else. So I find it ironic that some reviewers are pressed by this episode and this series in general.

Just grab some snacks, watch the episode, and don't take it too seriously.

Don't listen to people who just don't get it.
zacharykieler20 August 2021
This was not that bad, actually it was rather creative. If your bad mouthing the episode that means you just didn't get it. The show was a paradox. It reminded me of Wes Craven's New Nightmare. But instead of a movie they use something more modern. If you rated this a 1 you didn't get it. If you say it doesn't make any sense you didn't get it. It's easy to badmouth something you don't understand.

Meta does not equal good.
zorrodg-316-23833030 August 2021
This is such an obnoxiously meta episode, which might be fine if it made any damn sense or had anything to say at all.

Instead we get a limp deconstruction of AHS as a whole, aggressively unlikeable characters making poor decisions, YET ANOTHER murder house story and an ending that should be seismic in its implications but only elicits a shrug.

Thank god Double Feature has been so good thus far, or this might've been the episode to finally make me walk away from AHS for good. Here's hoping S2 actually tries to make something worth watching cause hot damn this show has been an absolute mess so far.

So bad.
ninaablaut20 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It was the worst episode of AHS. The whole story just doesn't make any sense. The "Rubber Woman" plot is just not such a good idea. Bad acting, annoying characters, and maybe someone can explain: WHY did she enter the house only on halloween? Like, she was alive and well, she could go in there any time... Did I miss something? And at the end it was only a video game within a video game. What a stupid and disappointing episode it was.

American HORRIBLE Stories
kocol819 August 2021
I personally want to have a conversation with Ryan Murphy, Manny Coto, and everyone else involved in the making of this shlit show.

WHY? Who is your demographic? Who are you trying to scare? 12 year olds or grown adults? MAKE UP YOUR MIND.

It's so disrespectful to the classic actors (Billie Lourd, Cody Fern, Matt Bomer, Naomi Grossman, John Caroll Lynch, Dylan McDermott) to give them such small and cringe characters. They deserve better screen time.

This entire show is quick money grab with ZERO care at all for the storytelling. It had great potential, only ending up to be a huge disappointment. DON'T BOTHER MAKING A 2ND SEASON.

What a blasphemous end. Sad.
meharnoah19 August 2021
I have never in a lifetime posted a review for a show or a movie but the fact that they tainted ahs this way will forever make me disgusted.

The fact that the stupid little son didn't have one ounce of regard made me want to slap the life outta that punk. Performance by every actor was questionable. They tried to bring such a great and massive legacy to an end in such a dry, senseless and stupid episode. It's hard for me to believe that the same people were involved through all seasons of American horror story. They potrayed the best season of ahs (1), to an end in the worst possible way, as a fan, I'm not just disappointed, I'm offended. The only few seconds of solace in this terrible terrible show was seeing Ben Harmon.

I will never consider this as a part of ahs, this is like something a person woke up and decided to do no matter how many people are offended no matter how many lives are ruined. I've never disliked something fictional so much.

The end was as absurd as the entire show.

This is from a mad fan who's watched multiple re-runs and lives and swears by the show.

They had no job making such a revolting spin off for a great freaking show.

I'm done.

I'm sad today people, sad.

Really surprised at all the negative reviews...
benjaminsartin22 August 2021
I really don't understand all the negativity. Is it as good as any season of AHS, No. Is it as bad as everyone thinks it is, No. Well, The Naughty List was really bad but they all can't be winners. I thought this was the best episode of the season, just ahead of Ba'al. People are saying "I don't know which universe we were in throughout the episode." These reviewers are trying to make sense of a show that is absolutely bananas. This isn't Night of the Living Dead, there aren't any "Rules" that need to be followed. Just watch and have fun. Which I did. It's not the Exorcist but it most certainly isn't deserving of a 1-3 rating. It's a 48 minute escape from the bullshiz that is happening in reality. Just shut up and enjoy it, quit over analyzing it, it's fun. These reviews are written by the same people that make a Yelp review when they get cold fries at McDonald's.

What is Ryan On
tastingthestars19 August 2021
I know this show is a spin-off but holy shit. Are they connecting it to the original show or not? They need to make up their minds.

This episode breaks the fourth wall. I don't mind things breaking the fourth wall in comic book movies (if it works and it only really works in Deadpool) but this is a HORROR show. It's supposed to be anyway. So what is the reason for treating it like it's in a separate universe when the first two episodes acted differently? What's the reason for breaking the fourth wall in the first place? Makes no sense.

The problem is Ryan doesn't understand what works and what doesn't lately. And this show just isn't working. Part of what makes the original show so great is that they are given an entire season to expand characters and build a cool atmosphere. Beginning to think Ryan can't do that with a show like this.

I don't know, it's just really disappointing and annoying because I feel like they are shouting themselves in the foot messing with a storyline that doesn't need to be messed with. Leave Murder House alone.

I'm so frustrated that this is getting another season. Complete waste of potential.

Yeesh kind of a mess
NotAFakeReviewer29 August 2021
I've liked every episode but not this one, Kaia Gerber, Paris Jackson, Noah Cyrus, none of these girls can act and they got these roles because their parents were famous, although it's funny that Kaia inherited her mothers lack of acting talent as well as her giant eyebrows and man jaw.

As much as they've bled murder house dry I'm glad they didn't drag Coven into it again. That said, at least the acting in Coven was good.

1 star for Tom Lenk 1 star for a decent idea but the script, Rubber (wo) man was fine for the first two episodes but 3 of them? These were far from the best characters or plot in this spin off and got far too much investment.

Should've linked Feral to Roanoke instead of trying to bludgeon Cindy's kid and Scarlett into our minds, if you check the reviews you'll see no-one likes these two.

Christ, this was brutal.

Started off well, sagged in the middle and a good ending
minxiepinx21 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Not sure why all the bad reviews; yes, it lost it a bit when it became The Scarlett Show, but overall I enjoyed it. Can't give it more than a 6, but it wasn't awful.

The WORST AHS episode ever made
pedroquintaoo19 August 2021
I love AHS, it's my favorite TV show ever, but this was the weakest episode I've ever watched.

The plot is awful, full of plot holes, there's no tension and the two protagonists (Sierra McCormick and Kaia Gerber) are so horrible, their acting is painful.

I'm really afraid of Double Feature because Ryan Murphy is killing the AHS universe. He must stop or pass the torch to somebody who knows how to create interesting stories.

Glad I watched before reading reviews
pzac3 September 2021
Guess everyone looks for different things. I totally enjoyed the humor of this episode. It's like he took all the semi-serious horror from previous seasons and made a show showing the lighter side of all the horror. To me it was just fun through and through, several really big twists and turns. Obviously very few people agree with me and that's completely ok and I guess understandable. It was certainly different from all previous shows. Thanks guys. I totally enjoyed it. In fact I may have to watch it again.

Good way to end the saga of Murder House
awessel-5811730 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I loved how meta this episode was getting, and I enjoyed how they tied it into the first two episodes of this series. I do think it felt a bit rushed at times, though it was a much needed final nail in the coffin to finally lay the story of Murder House to rest. At this point, with all the callbacks throughout all the seasons of AHS to this specific era of the show, I think all the fans have had their fill. It was time to, literally, burn it down and walk away from the ashes.

Why
corinneppierson19 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I find the entirety of the rubber woman Murder House plot uninteresting and unnecessary. Maybe I would've found it bearable if the acting was good too but yikes that was in the gutter as well. We didn't need to go back to murder house in this show at all. But I feel this episode was the worst addition.

The idea of a frame story is only good when done correctly and this was the most confusing attempt I've ever witnessed. Maybe it was meant to be confusing so we wouldn't ask questions but... I still haven't half a clue at what is "reality" vs. What is the video game? Did the Murder House ghosts ever truly get freed? I assume not because that was part of the video game as was all of the other content referring to Murder House as a whole in this episode besides the two attempts attempts at the video game.

The "reality" of this episode is where American Horror Story exists as a show (exactly like real life) and the video game is where AHS still exists (because the game developer recognized Ben, the scared people at the beginning were AHS fans, and the developers' son was a big fan) but so do the AHS characters (because we saw all the ghosts and so did the video game characters). Which brings me to my last question-

Does this effect the reality of AHS as a whole because the AHS show never existed in a timeline for any of the seasons of the show?

PLUS HOW TF DID BEAU END UP IN THE DEVELOPERS HOUSE IN THE "REALITY" OF THE SHOW?? WHERE DOES THAT CORRELATE?!

Truly just felt like Ryan Murphy finally admitting that he has no idea what he's doing anymore and can't recapture the magic of the earlier seasons. God that was stupid.
