The truth about this movie
yleekz12320 October 2006
I watched this movie in my Musical Appreciation class. It is about a boy who steals a chicken and runs into Mr. Handel. The boy's Mother was NOT an employee at the Catherdral, she cleaned and ironed shirts. The mother "bribes" Mr. Handel with non-starched shirts to save her boy from being in jail. Mr. Handel is writing the "Messiah", his most famous piece. The choir sucks until the washer lady's son is discovered by Handel. This Movie is a nice expiration's for those who love Musical history or for those who want to learn more about it. The only problem is bad acting towards the end. All-in-all this was a fairly good movie especially for a class.

A more entertaining Composer's series video
boergene28 February 2006
GF Handel hit a speed-bump in his career and needed some new material quick. In 'Handel's' last chance, GF Handel is in the midst of creating his latest Oratorio (a play or story set only to music with no costumes or scenery), "The Messiah". Along the way he interacts with a troubled young boy with a miraculous voice. Handel encourages the boy to be brave and face the new challenges with courage. Although, similar to other videos in this series, there is no record of Handel Specifically meeting up with a young boy in Dublin to help him put on the first performance of "The Messiah", but again, we need to focus on th idea that this series is geared toward educating 10-14 year-ODs about classical music and composers. The story, however inaccurate it may be, is a great tool to get students to hear the music of Handel and learn about his contributions to baroque music.

Pretty Good

This movie was pretty good actually. we watched it in my music appreciation class at school. it's about this kid that steals chicken and his mom works in a cathedral or something and she gets george friedrick handel to tell the dude she works for to get her son out of jail then oddly enough handel finds out while the boy is cleaning the floor that he could sing and was so much better than the poor excuse for a choir they had. If your interested in classical music and musicians and baroque period this is a good movie for ya
