Jim Carrey is one of the most prolific comic actors in Hollywood. The actor changed the way comedy stars were looked at in the industry by giving solid hits in the ‘90s with films such as Ace Venture: Pet Detective, The Mask, Liar Liar, and more. Though he has done great work in dramas such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, he is known for his comedic work the most.
Carrey scored a trio of incredible hits including his breakthrough release Ace Ventura. After the success of the comic book adaptation The Mask, Carrey played the role of Lloyd Christmas in the comedy Dumb and Dumber. The actor was so committed to the role of a stupid limo driver that he chipped the cap off of his tooth to give him the iconic look.

Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2024 is missing a certain amount of original series firepower. In the place of a blockbuster like The Handmaid’s Tale or Shōgun, however, is some content diversity.
The first of the month sees the premiere of four-episode British series Shardlake. This mystery drama takes place during the reign of Henry VIII and features none other than Thomas Cromwell (Sean Bean) investigating a murder. Other series of note this month include the Korean drama Uncle Samsik on May 15.
Movies are bit more interesting on Hulu in May. Teen comedy Prom Dates premieres on May 3. That will be followed by the 2023 Adam Drive film Ferrari on May 24. Before all that though is the real heavy hitter. You can watch Austin Butler’s acclaimed performance as The King in Elvis as early as May 1. Suddenly emerging in the mid-1990’s as the main comedy icon, Jim Carrey proved to the whole world he is the genre’s genius. His Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber definitely made a revolution back in 1994, bringing new comedy standards to the cinema industry.
Before delving into dramas, the actor starred in the 1997 comedy, where he delivered, presumably, his best performance at the time. Moreover, he solidified his status as an actor, entertaining the whole family on a different level, with the kids laughing at his expressive mimics, while the adults admired his ability to embody the craziest ones.
The movie’s plot revolves around the divorced lawyer Fletcher Reede, who built his entire career on lying, which also becomes the reason why his marriage failed and, more than that, why his young son Max gets more and more disappointed with him.

The franchise could have been totally different had Jim Carrey been a part of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park. The ever-talented actor initially garnered the spotlight with his work in the 1990 TV series, In Living Color. He had been active in the industry for years, majorly portraying supporting roles, before rising to prominence in 1994 with a string of hit films, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber.

However, Carrey would have gained the limelight much earlier than 1994 had he been cast as Ian Malcolm, a role that eventually went to Jeff Goldblum.

Sofia Coppola’s Lost In Translation has risen to a cult classic status. The plot, the characters, the cinematography, the drama, and the comedy are simply too iconic for the movie to not enjoy the level of popularity it does.
A still from Lost in Translation
Fans often pride themselves in knowing the film and related information in and out. However, there might be one Lost In Translation trivia, which might be unbeknownst to many. One particularly hilarious scene from the film might have taken inspiration from an old Japanese advertisement that featured legendary filmmakers Francis Ford Coppola and Akira Kurosawa.
Lost In Translation: The Suntory Whiskey Scene
The reason Lost In Translation is loved unanimously is because it manages to capture the complexity of human emotions while staying true to the nuances of being in a foreign environment with a language barrier. Coppola manages to blend in some humorous tones as well.

After watching Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber in 1994, fans of the film industry were convinced that Jim Carrey was the hottest new comedy genius in town. The actor is singlehandedly responsible for some of the most hilarious memories from a lot of people’s childhoods. It’s safe to say his personality, both on-screen and off-screen, revolutionized the comedy genre.
Jim Carrey in The Mask (1994)
However, lately, things haven’t been looking too good for Jim Carrey. After 2016, the actor has only been a part of three movies, courtesy of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. There was a time when he wanted to be just like Tom Hanks, who has managed to adapt so well with the ever-changing times in the film industry. Unfortunately, things didn’t quite work out like he had imagined they would.

The Mask played a massive role in establishing Cameron Diaz as one of the biggest Hollywood divas. Diaz was successful in impressing the audiences in her very first outing and flaunted an incredible chemistry with Jim Carrey. However, the 1994 classic’s script was never written for her. The director Chuck Russell’s original choice for the role was Anna Nicole Smith.

There is a good chance Ace Ventura: Pet Detective will come up in conversation if you ask someone who is strolling their dog on the street about their favorite Jim Carrey flick. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective earned mixed reviews upon its initial release, so it is almost funny to see how beloved it has become among fans despite this fact. Nevertheless, the film remains a hilarious detective satire.
Reviewers and viewers alike had a major effect because of Carrey’s performance. Not only did it initiate the actor’s cinematic career, but it also initiated a franchise. Having said that, what if we told you that Carrey was not the first choice to play such an iconic character?

The original contender for the role is also a legendary figure in the comedy film industry, but his comedic sensibility is nothing like Carrey’s outrageous and wild improvisation.

Thanks to the lead actor’s undeniable charisma, Stanley Ipkiss found a home in the hearts of all comedy enthusiasts and we are yet to find a character that can kick him out. An Apple Studios production, the film will be produced by Matt Dines, Ali Goodwin and Hill under their Strong Baby banner.
The film marks the latest collaboration for Hill and Apple Original Films; they are also developing a Grateful Dead biopic with Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions, to be directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. Hill...

Netflix comedy movies in March 2024 cover every subgenre in the category. Whether you’re looking to stream slapstick, a rom-com, or something with a side of horror, Netflix’s March additions have something for you.
While any time is a good time to watch a comedy, springtime and laughs can go hand-in-hand. With warmer weather (and summer blockbusters) around the corner, spend your March with Netflix’s best comedy movies.
‘Beverly Hills Ninja’ Coming to Netflix March 1
Celebrate comedy legend Chris Farley by streaming Beverly Hills Ninja on Netflix beginning March 1. The 1997 martial arts comedy marks the final film released during Farley’s lifetime, as the actor died less than a year after its release.
Farley stars as Haru, adopted as a child by a clan of ninjas who believe he’ll become the master promised in legends. As expected, Haru never entirely becomes a ninja despite his best efforts.

We haven’t seen the last of Dr. Robotnik.
Jim Carrey will reprise his role as the mad scientist with the formidable facial hair in “Sonic the Hedgehog 3.” The news comes despite the fact that (and here there be spoilers) the second film in the series ended with Dr. Robotnik falling from a giant robot to the ground below, a potentially fatal tumble. In the film’s post-credits scene, however, it is revealed that Dr. Robotnik’s body has not been found, setting the stage for Sonic’s main antagonist to make a dramatic return.
The combined global box office for “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” stands at $725.2 million, hence the enthusiasm of Paramount, the studio behind the video game adaptations, for another installment in the franchise. The studio is also making a spin-off series, “Knuckles,'” that will premiere on Paramount+. Carrey’s return was...

Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender join Steven Soderbergh’s spy thriller Black Bag project, which boasts a script by David Koepp and will be set and shot in the UK.
Remember around a decade ago when Steven Soderberg told us he was retired from directing? The Sex, Lies And Videotape filmmaker was clearly in a pretty disillusioned state with the moviemaking business, but he’d eventually reverse that decision and we’re all the luckier for it.
Steven Soderbergh’s last decade as a filmmaker has given us some remarkable films, from Logan Lucky to No Sudden Move, by way of Unsane and Let Them All Talk. That’s to name just four of the ten feature films that Soderbergh has directed since he ended his self-imposed retirement a decade ago.

It is hard to believe (for people of a certain age), but the year 1994 was 30 years ago! For this week’s poll, we wanted to step back into the time machine and reminisce about what could possibly be considered one of the best years in cinema history. If, like me, you are in your thirties, 1994 holds a nostalgic place due to movies such as Blank Check, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Major League 2, Clifford, The Flintstones, Getting Even With Dad, Little Big League, Angels in the Outfield, The Little Rascals, Camp Nowhere, Richie Rich and Little Giants. The year also represented the huge breakout of comedy legend Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber were all released during that single calendar year.
But it wasn’t just movies aimed at a child’s heart that were released in 1994. The year also saw some genuine...

Jim Carrey wanted to perform from a very young age and when he was just 10 years old wrote to “The Carol Burnett Show” offering his services as an impressionist. While his request was politely declined it would only be another decade before he was all over television with his antic comedic act. He ultimately achieved the brass ring for comedians of this era when he got to appear on “The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.” In 1984 the 22-year-old Carrey was cast as the lead in a TV series called “The Duck Factory” which was supposed to be a star-making vehicle for the actor. Despite its prime placement on NBC’s Thursday night lineup the show quickly failed. Carrey bounced back with small other roles including the lead in the film “Once Bitten” which was a mild box office hit in 1985.

January 1999. One quarter of a century ago. I attended the Golden Globe Awards for the first time (as an accredited member of the press) — and it was a night that I’ll never forget.
Interestingly enough, the most memorable moment of the night for me wasn’t having Best TV Supporting Actress co-winner Camryn Manheim (“The Practice”) quiz me on lines from 1997’s hit comedy “Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion.”
Rather, it was when I was practically escorted out of the backstage press room for expressing my shock when Lauren Bacall announced Jim Carrey as the year’s Best Drama Actor for “The Truman Show,” beating out the likes of Tom Hanks in “Saving Private Ryan,” Ian McKellen in “Gods and Monsters” and Nick Nolte in “Affliction.” (My money had been on McKellen.)

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System, or Snes, is still heralded as one of the greatest consoles that any video game company has ever released. Its legacy is defined by hits within well-known Nintendo franchises like Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Kirby, Zelda, and Star Fox.
However, there is a long list of titles that were launched on Snes that acted as tie-ins or adaptations to popular movies and TV series. As was always the case with the jump from screen to console, there were a few duds among the release schedule as studios looked for an easy way to cash in on a familiar property. However, just because there are those video games that players would be best off forgetting, that doesn’t mean there aren’t genuine gems from Snes history. These movie and TV titles, which were released on the Super Nintendo, both captured the essence of their...

“Lord of the Rings” owner Embracer Group has reported a 13% increase in net sales year-on-year in Q2, in part thanks to its intensive restructuring program.

“In Q2, we delivered a stable quarter, with adjusted Ebit of Sek 1.8 billion [U.S. $170 million] and we expect to reach the forecasted range for this year,” said CEO Lars Wingefors. “The free cash flow of Sek 0.4 billion [U.S. $38 million] shows a clear improvement compared to Q1. Our restructuring program is making good progress, with opex savings ahead of plan and capex savings expected to contribute notably in the second half of the year. Dumb and Dumber is probably Jim Carrey’s funniest film. While The Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind might be better all-around movies, in terms of his comedies, nothing quite beats Peter and Bobby Farrelly’s debut. While Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask arguably made more of an impact on pop culture, both of those films are dated in ways that this isn’t. Jim Carrey is sensational as Lloyd Christmas, a love-struck limo driver pursuing the object of his affections, Lauren Holly’s Mary Swanson, to Aspen.
As hilarious as he is, he’s matched by Jeff Daniels, who plays his best pal, Harry, who accompanies him on his trip in their iconic Mutt Cutts van. The road comedy is scored with a classic alt-rock nineties soundtrack, and some of the rude jokes, which include love-lorn truck drivers, headless parakeets...

Comedian Jim Carrey’s Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is seen by many as one of the most memorable movies in the actor’s career. But he wondered if there was a more appropriate time for the film to make its debut.
Jim Carrey felt ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ could’ve been more successful if it came out at better time Jim Carrey | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
By most metrics, Eternal Sunshine was seen as a success. Every actor’s performance, from Jim Carrey to Kate Winslet to Kirsten Dunst, received considerable praise in the feature. Critics also fell in love with the movie itself. It currently holds a 92% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 256 critic reviews. Its box-office, however, only enjoyed modest success. According to The Numbers, it made $72 million off a $20 million budget. Although it made its money back, its monetary rewards paled a bit in comparison to its critical praise.

Spoiler Alert: This story discusses some general plot developments in Season 2, Episode 2 of “Loki,” currently streaming on Disney+.
For 30 years, Dan Deleeuw has worked in visual effects, from “The Mask” to “Armageddon” to “Night at the Museum” — but he always had a dream that one day, he might get to direct. That opportunity finally arrived in 2019, when “Avengers: Endgame” directors Joe and Anthony Russo — who’d worked with Deleeuw on VFX for their three previous Marvel Studios productions — hired him to shoot some additional photography for the behemoth production. That gig led to second unit directing jobs on 2021’s “Eternals” and 2023’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” and then, finally, to the main directors chair for the second episode of Season 2 of “Loki.”

The "Nightmare on Elm Street" film series was a hotbed for emerging talent. Many of the directors in the franchise would go on to prolific or interesting careers. Chuck Russell, director of "A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors" would go on to make Hollywood blockbusters like "The Mask," "Eraser," and "The Scorpion King." Renny Harlin, who directed "A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master" would likewise enter the Hollywood mainstream with films like "Predator 2," "Die Hard 2," "Cliffhanger," and "Cutthroat Island." Jack Sholder, Stephen Hopkins, and Rachael Talalay also emerged from the series' directors pool.
One can also find a few rising actors at the start of their careers throughout the Freddy Krueger movies. Famously, a young Johnny Depp starred in Wes Craven's 1984 original, and, for "Dream Warriors," Patricia Arquette made her cinematic debut.

Although Wes Craven's 1984 film "A Nightmare on Elm Street" is typically lumped in with slasher movies -- it came out right when the genre was cresting in popularity -- it doesn't quite follow the same structure as its contemporaries in the horror genre. The "Nightmare" movies, because they take place largely within dreams, are slightly more cerebral, bizarre, or imaginative than many of the stalk-n-stab movies that infested theaters at the time. The series also attracted interesting and notable directors who went on to other projects. Chuck Russell directed part 3. Renny Harlin director part 4. Stephen Hopkins directed part 5. It cannot be overstated how huge Jim Carrey was in the 1990s. The rubber-limbed comedian had a massive box office draw, going from "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective," to "The Mask," to "Dumb and Dumber." These films helped turn Carrey into a household name — and helped him land a role in a major blockbuster, "Batman Forever." Carrey, with his over-the-top personality, made for the perfect choice to play The Riddler, the puzzle-happy villain with a fondness for the color green.
"Batman Forever" was a kind of reset for the series. After the ultra-dark, ultra-kinky "Batman Returns," Warner Bros. wanted to go a different route with the Caped Crusader. Enter Joel Schumacher, who took over for director Tim Burton and ushered in a fun, neon-lit, cartoonish sequel that wasn't afraid to get silly. Carrey's Riddler is a scene-stealer, cavorting through the film like an imp and undergoing several wardrobe changes in true diva style.
