Abby Lee Miller Clarifies Comments On Being Attracted To High School Football Players After Backlash
The former ‘Dance Moms’ stars is addressing her controversial comments in an Instagram video posted on Monday.
Abby Lee Miller is walking back some controversial comments she recently made in which she seemingly stated that she is attracted to high school football players.
Miller’s original comments came towards the end of an appearance on Sofia Franklyn’s “Sofia with an F” podcast, in which Miller, 57, brought up the 1983 sports drama “All the Right Moves”, in which Tom Cruise — who was 21 at the time of release — played a high school senior and star player on the school’s football team.
“Oh, that’s my downfall. I like the high school football players,” Miller said at the time, adding, “I still like them.”
Franklyn, 31, then responded that, given she’s an adult, she’s now more into the other adult high school football coaches. Miller doubled down, stating, “Not one that...

A few months ago, while covering Hex Studios’ fantasy film throwback The Slave and the Sorcerer, we also mentioned that Hex was also working to “build a new British horror and fantasy studio that’s inspired by the likes of Cannon, Hammer, and Aip”. Now their endeavor has taken a mind-blowing leap forward: Hex Studios has announced they’re working with the family of late producer Milton Subotsky to resurrect Amicus Productions! Hex co-founder Lawrie Brewster is set to be the president of the revived Amicus… and their first project will be exactly the sort of movie Amicus is best remembered for: a horror portmanteau (or anthology) film called In the Grip of Terror!
Milton Subotsky and Max Rosenberg founded Amicus Productions in the early ’60s, and from 1962 to 1977 they produced nearly thirty films, including Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors, Dr. Who and the Daleks, The Skull, The Psychopath,...

Exclusive: Playwright Theresa Rebeck, who created the stage musical-themed NBC series Smash, has joined the real-life Broadway-bound musical adaptation of the 1988 film comedy Working Girl, producers announced today.
Rebeck will write the book of the musical, said producers Robyn Goodman and Josh Fiedler of Aged In Wood Productions and Kumiko Yoshii.
While Rebeck has had four plays produced on Broadway, Working Girl would mark her Broadway debut as a book writer for a musical. As previously announced, Cyndi Lauper is writing the music and lyrics, and Christopher Ashley will direct.
“Smash ignited my love of musical theater and I’ve been eager to find the right musical project since then,” Rebeck said in a statement. “I couldn’t have dreamed up a better fit than Working Girl, or better collaborators than Cyndi, Chris and this team. I can’t wait for audiences to discover...

Following her excellent work in the “Blue Literature” and “A Place Further than the Universe” series, it was about time for Atsuko Ishizuka to direct and pen a movie of her own, with “Goodbye Don Glees” being her first effort with both capacities. Animated by one of the top anime studios at the moment, Madhouse, and featuring an approach that moves somewhere between Miyazaki and “Stand By Me”, “Goodbye Don Glees” is definitely an interesting anime

Donny Davis, the comic and impersonator who appeared frequently as a guest on Chelsea Lately, performed as a comedian and dancer for Britney Spears’ 2013 Las Vegas residency and was a longtime member of the Hollywood and Las Vegas nightclub variety show Beacher’s Madhouse, where he often appeared with a fake tan and blond wig as “Mini-Trump,” died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was 43.

If a name can trigger nostalgia, don’t be surprised when the occasional sense of deja vu sets in while watching Belle, a dazzling near-future tech fantasia wrapped around a tale, yes, as old as time. Directed by Mamoru Hosoda and mostly set in a vast online world of sweeping musical numbers and weightless action sequences, it tells of Suzu, an awkward teenager (as if there were any other kind) who finds quick fame performing as the pop-singer Belle: her avatar on a hugely popular social media platform called U that looks like a sugary cocktail of Tik Tok and “The Oasis” from Spielberg’s Ready Player One.
Belle is the most ambitious work yet from Hosoda, a filmmaker who—along with contemporary Makoto Shinkai, director of the massively successful Your Name—has for quite some time been touted as heir apparent to Hayao Miyazaki (though Hosoda tends to balk...

We’re all trying to find ways to keep ourselves and/or our families/housemates engaged and entertained during this period of social distancing. Might I suggest a bit of horror?
Tor Books launched its own horror imprint, Nightfire Books, aimed at publishing fiction that “unsettles and delights, exploring the full range of horror, dark fantasy, and the supernatural” back in April. The imprint’s first publication is planned for early 2021, but that doesn’t mean it’s not putting out some chilling content in the meantime.
In February, Nightfire Books launched Come Join Us By the Fire, an audio-only anthology of 35 horror short stories available to listen to for free. The collection offers almost 10 hours of creepy content, is narrated by Gerard Doyle, Ramon de Ocampo, and Saskia Maarleveld, and includes some of our favorite authors, including Joe R. Lansdale, Paul Tremblay, Sam J. Miller, China Miéville, and Carmen Maria Machado.

Von Bach's Kickstarter Campaign Details: "'Von Bach” is a graphic novel adaptation of a play produced by the Next Arena Theater company. It’s the story of an undead monster who sues a movie studio trying to make a horror movie about him.
Doctor Heinrich Von Bach was a nineteenth-century scientist resurrected from the dead by his own ungodly invention. At least that’s the story Hollywood told when they got hold of the gothic romance novel written about the good doctor. For a hundred years they’ve made as many films based on the bloody life and undeath of Von Bach.

After a decade away from directing, former Studio Ghibli animator Kitaro Kōsaka (“Nasu: Summer in Andalusia”) marks his return with “Okko’s Inn,” a sweet ghost story that attacks selfish, divisive behavior with idyllic surroundings and inclusion. From anime studio Madhouse and distributed by GKids, the movie opens April 22nd and 23rd in select theaters in Los Angeles.
After her parents are killed in a car accident, the big-eyed Okko stays with her grandmother, an innkeeper, on top of an ancient spring with healing powers. There, Okko encounters friendly spirits that only she can see, who play games, teach her about selflessness, and groom her to become the new caretaker. Based on the children’s novel, “Wakaokami wa Shogakusei!,” the project inspired Kōsaka “to depict a girl, at a self-conscious and impressionable age, growing up and learning that there are things you can and cannot manage.”

If you enjoy watching anime, we’ve got a great trailer here for you to watch today for an adorable new film from GKids called Okko’s Inn.
The film is a charming looking ghost story film that was created by famed anime studio Madhouse and director Kitaro Kosaka, who was a key animator for several classic films from Studio Ghibli. He “seamlessly blends immersive, idyllic landscapes with the storybook charm of Okko’s beloved ghosts.”
The film is said to deliver “a rare ghost story that – despite several floating characters – is firmly grounded in the trials and joys of humanity.” Here’s the synopsis that was released:
After losing her parents in a car accident, Okko goes to live in the countryside with her grandmother, who runs a traditional Japanese inn built on top of an ancient spring said to have healing waters. While she goes about her chores...

The 1970s were the heyday of eco-terror and “animals gone wild” horror movies, but that doesn’t mean the ’80s didn’t get their fair share of entries in the genre. Though advancements in practical effects determined that slashers and creature features became much more popular during the decade, killer animals still found their way into a number of ’80s horror movies. Two of those entries now make their way to Blu-ray from Scream Factory: one a notorious first feature from a great director and the other an underseen gem.
Though notorious for being the first feature-length directorial credit for future Academy Award winner/King of the World James Cameron (there’s a sticker on Scream Factory’s new Blu-ray selling the movie as such), Piranha II: The Spawning—or Piranha II: Flying Killers as the title appears on screen—bears almost no resemblance to a Cameron movie outside the...

Exclusive: Netflix has acquired the Michael Lewis bestseller Flash Boys, and Ben Jacoby has been set to adapt it.
The nonfiction bestseller is about a group of Wall Street guys who grew frustrated by a loophole that gave traders the opportunity to game the stock market. They banded together to reform the financial markets by creating an exchange that rendered impotent the act of high-frequency trading, a growing form of trading that gave insiders an advantage. Lewis wrote The Big Short, and Flash Boys was viewed as the antithesis of the practices that created the 2008 financial crisis. The Flash Boys walked away from huge-money jobs to use their expertise to investigate big banks, stock exchanges and high-frequency trading firms. They peeled back the layers to bare why many feel that Wall Street is such a rigged game.

The Veteran Marine — who survived a helicopter crash in Afghanistan in 2012 that resulted in severe injuries and required more than 40 surgeries — had her left leg amputated above the knee at the end of 2015.

In his heyday, director/producer Ovidio Assonitis was affectionately known as “The Rip-Off King” due to his blatant copying of popular, more expensive hit films. Thus, we have Beyond the Door (1974), an Exorcist-style film; Tentacles (1977), a killer octopus film in the vein of Jaws; and even the sequel Piranha II: The Spawning (1981), which he famously directed after firing James Cameron shortly after filming commenced. Always on the lookout for the next big idea in exploitation, it isn’t surprising that he would also jump on the slasher bandwagon as well. Madhouse is Assonitis’ entry into that particular subgenre of film.
Though produced in late 1980 or early 1981 in Savannah, Georgia, Madhouse wasn’t released stateside until 1983. So while the film bears more than a passing resemblance to the classic slasher Happy Birthday to Me (also made in 1981), it is unclear how much of a direct rip-off one film is of the other.

George Michael, who died suddenly on Sunday, had several loves throughout his life — and it all started when he met Anselmo Feleppa.
“He was so distracting I actually avoided that end of the stage,” Michael told The Huffington Post in 2009 about spotting Feleppa, a Brazilian designer, in the crowd at one of his concerts.

When you think about someone like Marion Ross, I suspect your mind is immediately taken back to memories of watching Happy Days on television. What you may not know is that Ross has been in show business since the mid-1950s and is showing no signs of stopping. Her latest role, in director Dominique Schilling’s A Reason, is a departure of sorts. Ross plays Aunt Irene, an elegant, yet villainous woman dying of pancreatic cancer. Well aware of her impending death, she calls her family together for a reading of her will.
Aside from trading in her typically nice, charming, and wholesome persona for something a little more dastardly, this movie is currently working the festival circuit which offers new opportunities for the Hollywood legend. Ross sat down with CinemaNerdz to chat about her experience with the movie, the differences between acting for TV versus movies, and her oddest jobs.
