Call of Duty can be one alluring game capable of drawing the interest of even the best. Several renowned celebrities including Mila Kunis, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and more have revealed in the past that they play the popular shooter title. Kevin Durant, a professional basketball player, also appears to be one of them.
However, the game isn’t having a good time with several fans complaining about the persisting issues. It has seen a fair share of ebb and flow and is currently in a latter phase with Modern Warfare 3 failing to capture fans’ attention akin to its other sought-after titles. Durant has now revealed he has been addicted to the game but that doesn’t affect his performance.

A year and a half ago, it was announced that Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner – who both have experience working in the Scream franchise, as Fitzgerald was in the Scream TV series and Gallner appeared in the 2022 Scream movie – were set to star in the “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling. Now we know when we’re going to have a chance to see this movie, as Variety has confirmed that veteran producer Bob Yari’s new company Magenta Light Studios has secured the U.S. distribution rights to the film and they’re planning to give it a wide theatrical release on August 23rd.
Plot details on this thriller are being kept under wraps, and Variety notes that reviews from audience members who saw the movie at Fantastic Fest last year ” hint that the film works best with as little information as possible going in.” Apparently it has something...

Best Visual Effects is one of my personal favorite Oscar categories, but this year it’s one without a single Best Picture nominee in the bunch, which isn’t that uncommon — it happened most recently in 2020. Not that it necessarily matters, since not a single movie that has won Best Picture has also won this category going all the way back to Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2003. In fact, that was the last Best Picture winner to even be nominated in this category.
Two of the movies nominated this year received no other nominations, while the others only received one or two additional below-the-line bids. What’s interesting is that there is only one visual effects nominee that is also nominated for its production design: Ridley Scott‘s “Napoleon,” which only received three below-the-line nominations total. President Joe Biden signed an executive order on Monday implementing standards and security measures in response to the rapid development of artificial intelligence. Though there were already a myriad of reasons for Biden to be concerned about AI, watching Tom Cruise go up against an advanced AI called “the Entity” in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One apparently helped put him over the top.
As deputy White House chief of staff Bruce Reed told The Associated Press, Biden’s concern about AI only grew after taking in the film at Camp David. “If he hadn’t already been concerned about what could go wrong with AI before that movie, he saw plenty more to worry about,” said Reed, who watched Dead Reckoning with Biden.

Paramount has delayed the release of "Mission: Impossible -- Dead Reckoning Part Two" until 2025, which means we have a year and a half until we get to see the continued adventures of Imf agent Ethan Hunt and his pals. Whether or not you believe in life after death, there’s no denying that there’s entertainment to be found in the exploration of the unknown. That’s why I appreciate the extreme popularity of ghost hunting shows despite being a life-long skeptic and understanding that most of these programs greatly exaggerate their findings in the pursuit of ratings.
However, not all paranormal investigators are created equal, with some of them actually having a minimum of respect for the scientific method and operating on a series of rational principles instead of simply reacting to make-believe noises and looking scared for the camera. And luckily for fans of these less sensationalist professionals, Taps (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) investigator and founding member of the original Ghost Hunters, Steve Gonsalves, has just released a memoir detailing his personal experience as a researcher of the supernatural.

It’s turning out to be quite a summer for superspies and supercomputers.

Netflix tries muscling in on the Mission: Impossible game with the adrenaline-charged spy thriller Heart of Stone, built as a vehicle for Gal Gadot (one of the producers) to swap superheroics for a more earthbound combo of brains, tech savvy, instinct and formidable fight skills. While it’s a few notches up from the Wonder Woman star’s last action romp for the streamer, Red Notice, it feels only marginally less manufactured from the spare parts of other movies. But it gets the job done and is sure to pull solid numbers. It doesn’t hurt that Gadot has appealing chemistry with co-star Jamie Dornan.
The timing seems mildly unfortunate given that the most recent M:i installment, Dead Reckoning, hit theaters only a month ago and also revolves around a risibly named AI mega-brain, “The Entity,” which nefarious forces are angling to control.

Brian De Palma's original "Mission: Impossible" subverted just about everything about the TV series it was based on. Ordinarily, the show would follow a skilled team of spies who use gadgets, wit, and impressive espionage skills to track down enemy spies and ultra-powerful criminals. In the movie, the team was assembled and the objectives were clear when De Palma elected to murder the entire team. The only survivor was a new character, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) whom the audience hadn't previously known. It was later revealed that the man behind the slaying of Ethan's team was none other than Jim Phelps (Jon Voight), the hero of the original TV series. This would be like if a "Star Trek" movie killed the main cast, leaving Ensign Jones as the main character. And then it was revealed that Captain Kirk was the one who betrayed everyone.

When Tom Cruise accepted his first mission as Ethan Hunt, I bet the star never thought that he’d still be playing the character nearly thirty years later, with no plans to stop anytime soon. But, as any franchise fan can tell you, not all Mission: Impossible movies are created equal, and we’re going to try to break them down from worst to best in our Mission Impossible movies ranked list!
7 – Mission: Impossible II:
Here’s the thing – many people hate this movie. I honestly don’t know why. Is it the worst Mission: Impossible movie? Sure. But, simultaneously, “worst” doesn’t mean the same thing for this franchise that it does to others. Even if it is the worst Mission: Impossible movie, there’s still plenty to like about it. Plot: Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) is back in a battle against “The Entity,” a state-of-the-art, self-aware AI that threatens to topple the world’s government. Battling an old foe (Esai Morales) for a key that The Entity wants, Hunt has to recruit his old team, plus a master pickpocket (Hayley Atwell) for his most impossible mission yet.
Review: One has to give Tom Cruise and his director Christopher McQuarrie credit. The two consistently push the envelope, and in each other, the two have found kindred spirits bent on delivering the type of old-school thrills you don’t see anymore. After watching the latest Indiana Jones lose its soul in a sea of CGI and the various superhero movies, it’s a treat to see Cruise and McQuarrie doing real, cutting-edge practical action with some legitimate stakes. When people die, they stay dead, and as invincible as Cruise’s Ethan Hunt may seem,...

Tom Cruise and Hayley Atwell in ‘Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One’ from Paramount Pictures and Skydance
Naming the big bad “The Entity” is a dead giveaway that plot isn’t going to matter as much as the spectacular action sequences in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. And unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know Tom Cruise has put his body through hell to pull off the seventh Mi film’s insane action scenes. Cruise’s efforts pay off big time in one of the best entries in the blockbuster franchise.
But about that plot… Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is tasked with recovering a key that controls The Entity, an artificial intelligence that has become sentient. The Entity began with controlling social media and moved on to attacking governments across the globe. But that’s small potatoes compared to its ultimate goal: world domination.

“Your life will always matter more to me than my own.” So utters a weary Ethan Hunt in the back half of his most recent mission. It hits with appropriate poignancy in context, but serves as a battle cry for what Tom Cruise’s latest big-screen endeavors have become. He’s free solo’d cliff faces and skyscrapers, clung onto airplanes (or fallen out of them), all culminating in a suicide motorcycle jump off the Paramount logo itself. Win, lose, or draw, the man is fully committed to a perverse obsession: defying death to save the future of The Movies.
Such is the nature of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, an entry that pits Ethan Hunt et al against a seemingly inescapable adversary: a superpowered form of Artificial Intelligence known as The Entity. Confronted with this faceless, inhuman destroyer that can manipulate all aspects of our increasingly digital landscape,...

Is Tom Cruise our last bonafide movie star? Or at least one of the few remnants of an elite group of big-screen heartthrobs who leave us saying, “They don’t make ‘em like they used to?” We’ve heard several versions of this question asked again and again over the years, especially on the heels of 2022’s astonishing and disarmingly nostalgic “Top Gun: Maverick,” a heart-swelling legacy-quel that deservedly re-established and reinforced Cruise’s status as a dying breed of larger-than-life screen hero.
While it might be futile to ponder the same query once more, that doesn’t mean Cruise is done reminding us why there won’t be another one after him to burn just as brightly. And that’s not only because of our era of scattered eyeballs and shortened attention spans that sadly deems the all-encompassing brand of “movie star” nearly obsolete. The short of it is,...

“With the death of disco in 1979 and a demand for change, the 1980s evolved into a neon-soaked totally rad decade held firm together with cans of “Aqua Net” burning a hole in the ozone. Time for free love and hope for peace was over. It was time for a revolution. But with filmmakers, their creative freedoms would lead to explore more areas which haven’t been touched on before. Leonis Productions, the Newen Studios-owned French banner created by Jean-Benoit Gillig, is developing a raft of international shows on the heels of “Liaison,” Apple TV+’s first French original.
The company reached a milestone with “Liaison,” a thriller series created and entirely penned by Virginie Brac (“Spiral”) and directed by Stephen Hopkins. Vincent Cassel and Eva Green lead a cast that includes Peter Mullan, Gérard Lanvin, Daniel Francis, Stanislas Merhar, Irène Jacob, Laëtitia Eïdo, Eriq Ebouaney, Tchéky Karyo, Bukky Bakray and Thierry Fremont.
“It’s a sprawling French-British thriller set against the backdrop of Brexit, and there’s a metaphor between the love tragedy playing as the primary plot and the political tragedy embodied by Brexit unfolding in the background,” said Gillig.

Now Fitzgerald and Gallner are working together, as they’re both cast members in the upcoming “cat and mouse thriller” Strange Darling.

Well, that's a whole bag of tricks, isn't it?
Evil Season 3 Episode 8 found David going all-in on his work with The Entity, while Ben investigated demonic toys, and Kristen battled her fear over Lexis, Rsm Fertility, and her missing egg.
That doesn't account for their trusted cohort, Kurt's exploration of evil, which is going to come back to bite everyone in the ass.
Poor Kristen.
She had just gotten her life back on track after losing the guilt of killing Laroux, and then the Rsm Fertility Clinic storyline reared its ugly head again, revealing more than Lexis could be in danger.
But let's start with Lexis because things are heating up in that area.
After Kristen met with Victor in Evil Season 3 Episode 7 and learned from him that Lexis is part of an agenda connected to the same cases she, David, and Ben have sworn to stop, Kristen is suffering nightmares again.

Stars: Lena Headey, Sam Worthington, Dean Scott Vazquez, Emma Holzer, Barbara Hershey, La La Anthony, Cam Gigandet | Written and Directed by Gigi Gaston
As I watched 9 Bullets the plot seemed overly familiar, it wasn’t billed as a remake of anything but it seemed very familiar. Then it hit me, Gloria, a film John Cassavetes made in 1980, and remade by Sidney Lumet in 1999. Both involve a tough woman who has to go on the run with a young boy wanted by the mobsters who killed his parents. In Gloria he has a book with incriminating information, in this film, it’s a laptop. In both films, the mob boss is her ex and as a name, Gypsy isn’t that far from Gloria either.
I wasn’t surprised to see that it was one of a slew of films writer/director Gigi Gaston cited as an influence on 9 Bullets.

Darkland Distribution, an imprint of U.K.’s Parkland, has picked up British sci-fi thriller “Deus.”
As well as acquiring the U.K. and North American distribution rights, Darkland will represent worldwide international sales rights to the film, described as a “provocative and thought-provoking” sci-fi thriller.
“Deus” is written and directed by British Independent Film Award winner Steve Stone, who also wrote the feature “Entity” starring Dervla Kirwan and Charlotte Riley.
“Deus” stars Claudia Black (“Farscape”) and David O’Hara (“Cowboys and Aliens”) as astronauts who are sent to investigate when a mysterious dark sphere is discovered orbiting Mars. Waking from an 8-month hibernation aboard their vessel, the Achilles, they discover the sphere is actually a blinding light from which one word is repeatedly transmitted in over four thousand languages: God.

This weekend marks the much-noted 50th anniversary of “The French Connection’s” release. “The Manor” perhaps inadvertently stirs memories of another William Friedkin joint, 1990 horror “The Guardian,” which was so disliked by the director that he omitted mentioning it in his otherwise fairly comprehensive memoirs. This addition to the second “Welcome to the Blumhouse” quartet of genre features likewise offers an evil tree-entity, to perhaps less campily absurd results — which is both a good and a bad thing.
Writer-director Axelle Carolyn’s second solo feature (following 2013’s ghost story “Soulmate”) provides a welcome starring vehicle for Barbara Hershey, who hasn’t had one in some years. But . Ahead of the world premiere screening of his debut feature film The Last Rite, writer / director Leroy Kincaide talks about his new movie, the enlightenment of being an undertaker, his personal experiences with sleep paralysis and the ‘badassery’ of 80s horror movies.
Leroy, you began your working life as an Undertaker. How did that come about?
I was introduced to the undertaking industry through my uncle who was also an undertaker at the time. I was only 17 when I took the job, They had a vacancy and I needed the work, so I guess I sort of just fell into the role as I had no real education when I left school. I worked there for just over a year and probably did upwards of 400-500 funerals in that time. I found it a very enlightening and uplifting experience as it taught me the value and perspective of life at a very early age.

A young woman, Lucy, is alone in an isolated house awaiting her sister who is soon to be joining her. It seems she is there to get away from someone and soon here and her sister will be able to start a new life fresh.
Now I say ‘it seems’ because like much of the movie, nothing is made completely clear. Why is Lucy here – not really sure. What has happened in her past to mean she is taken meds that her sister keeps telling her to take – who knows? Why mustn’t she use her phone – something about being tracked on social media maybe? Who is the ‘bad man’ she is escaping from – no idea. I’m not a movie goer that needs everything explained but some details would be helpful.

Filipino Director Pedring A Lopez has made quite a name for himself with such projects as Nialang/The Entity which pitted a Manilla Cop and a Yakuza Princess played by former Av superstar Maria Ozawa against a soul-stealing demon, and the slick widely acclaimed female driven action thriller Maria, starring Christine Reyes as a former assassin whose past life comes back to haunt her and brings her back to battle. The film was a huge success on Netflix around the world and he's currently developing a sequel amongst other projects. Now he's set to make his English language International Debut with the high octane action thriller Escape, shooting in the Philippines early 2020 with Producers Scott Rosenfelt and Michael McDermott. When a teenager in the Philippines goes missing, his mother...

After a rocky few years, cinema from the Philippines is once again bristling with energy and innovation. International interest is rising, and the Tokyo International Film Festival’s 2019 selection reflects some of that. The recent launch of two incentive schemes by the Philippines government may help the country’s production become more international.
The Tokyo festival this year includes a total of eight films and TV episodes from the Philippines across its different sections: “Mananita” in the main competition section; Brillante Mendoza’s “Mindanao” and Erik Matti’s erotic drama “Food Lore Series—Island of Dreams,” in the World Focus section; and Bradley Liew’s “Motel Acacia” in the Asian Focus category.
Philippines films also dominate Tokyo’s Crosscut Asia sidebar, which this year focuses on Southeast Asian fantasy and genre titles: Lav Diaz’ “The Halt,” Antoinette Jadaone’s “Six Degrees of Separation from Lilia Cuntapay,” Matti’s “The Entity...

An initiative of the Japan Foundation Asia Center, Crosscut Asia is a Tiff section dedicated to films from Asia, especially from emerging markets.
Thematically, the sixth edition of Crosscut Asia takes a snapshot of Southeast Asian genre films. It presents eight horror, fantasy and dark future films from the region, together with two episodes from the HBO “Folklore” horror anthology series produced by veteran Singaporean director Eric Khoo – including one episode “Tatami” directed by Japan’s Saitoh Takumi.
Four of the films are from the Philippines where horror is a thriving genre, including “The Entity” by Erik Matti, an action and horror veteran whose 2013 thriller “On the Job” was selected for the Cannes Directors Fortnight, and the dystopian thriller “Halt” by Lav Diaz, whose work has screened at Cannes, Venice and Berlin as well as many other festivals in the Philippines and abroad.

The newest horror movie by Philippino director Erik Matti (“BuyBust” 2018) deals with a whole bunch of different topics. The story is pretty simple though.
“The Entity” is now screening at /slash film festival
Luis (Kent Gonzales) left home to study at an engineering school. One day he receives a call from his parents. His sister has died, and he should return for the funeral. Back home, Luis tries to uncover the circumstances of her death, but no one is willing to give an answer. Right from the start, the viewer is introduced to supernatural elements. A demonic haunted house and a dark past that holds a tragic family fate are the ingredients that make up the typical horror stylistics of this movie.
“The Entity” is dominated by the past. The events that take place are all related to bygone incidents. The entire house and its surroundings are covered in fog,...

This week, the /slash Film Festival, Austria’s biggest Fantastic Film Festival, starts its projectors in Vienna to screen a broad catalog of dark and twisted treats. From September 19 until September 29, the 10th edition of the Festival will also present a promising Asian selection.
Six Asian feature films and four animations are among the total number of 70 movies that can be seen in two charming old-town cinemas. The so-called “/asian” selection starts with “The Scoundrels” (2018), the debut of Taiwanese director Hung Tzu-Hsuan. From the Philippines comes Erik Matti’s “The Entity” (2019). An elegant horror-thriller about a secretive family history that is packed with suspense. In cooperation with the Japannual Film Festival, /slash presents the Japanese entry for the selection – “The Fable” (2019) by Kan Eguchi. The Manga adaption is a mixture of over the top action sequences and utterly disarming humor. Highly anticipated is also Won-Tae Lee’s “The Gangster, The Cop,...

Based on Frank De Felitta's unsettling book of the same name, 1983's The Entity is coming to Blu-ray like never before in a new Collector's Edition from Scream Factory, and we've been provided with the full list of special features ahead of its June 11th release, including a new interview with star Barbara Hershey.
Press Release: Carla Moran, a hard-working single mother whose life becomes a nightmare when she is attacked in her bedroom by someone – or something – that she cannot see. Disbelieved by her friends and dismissed by skeptical psychiatrists, Carla begins to lose her grip as she is repeatedly attacked in her car, in the bath, and even in front of her children. Could this be a case of hysteria, a manifestation of childhood sexual trauma, or something even more horrific? Seeking help from a group of daring parapsychologists, Carla will attempt an unthinkable experiment: to seduce,...
