A Good Terrytoon
boblipton21 February 2010
Actually, at this point, this is an Aesop's Fables, a series in which the action would be ended with a Fortune-cookie style of aphorism, and the series eventually went to Van Beuren. Tracking the provenance of cartoon series is like trying to figure out who was skating on the ice from the impressions left by the skates after the Zamboni has been by.

In any case, this is a Farmer Grey (or Al Falfa) cartoon. It's about winter sports, including skating, skiing and shooting at mountain goats. Although Terry rarely produced great cartoons, he did survive for forty years in a chancy business, mostly by being close-fisted on expenses, and the sort of event that he covers supports a lot of cheating in the cartoon: skaters doing figure eights, skiers heading down endless mountain slopes and so forth.

The good point of the cartoon is that this sort of motion is inherently graceful, and sets up the gags nicely. Not a great cartoon by any means, it is certainly not poor.
