I'm a huge fan of the Insidious horror movie franchise! I've enjoyed all the films that have been made so far and this fourth film looks so awesomely creepy! Today we have a new trailer for Insidious: The Last Key and it features some great and scary new footage! I'm pretty excited to see this movie! I'm sure it will scare the crap out of audiences.
The story offers new details on the mythology and centers around the parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) as she faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet. The haunted house that she will be dealing with in this story, is her own family home, the home that she grew up in. And let's just say life growing up in that home was a terrifying experience.
As the story plays out during their investigation we learn about the early life of Elise before she became a parapsychologist.

Horror fans don’t need a time-sensitive excuse to indulge in uncanny and unnatural literature, but there’s nothing quite like steeping oneself in a novel of the strange as the October winds blow, bringing half-imagined whispers of phantoms from the pages. Some books evoke this sense more effortlessly—and frighteningly—than others. Here are seven chilly, liminal examples of literature’s power to bring us across the veil.
Books of Blood by Clive Barker: While technically five volumes, Clive Barker’s masterwork of short horror fiction brings the perfect mixture of pulpy violence, grotesque monstrosities, and transcendentally disturbing themes. His tales take the reader through gritty urban wastelands, liminal spaces of decay or transgression, where the rejected pieces of society manage to make a life—and encounter monsters in the process. Particularly poisonous treats include the titular story, a nightmarish diatribe on the roadways of ghosts; “Rawhead Rex,...

Out of all the places I visited at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the most memorable was the screening of the Channel Zero: No-End House premiere episode. The way the series has lingered in my mind makes me think that I haven't truly left the house since first seeing it... making me even more eager for the new season to premiere on the Syfy channel beginning Wednesday, September 20th. To help hold me over until then, I recently had the pleasure of speaking with Channel Zero showrunner Nick Antosca about the psychological scares of the suburban-set second season, and we've also been provided with an exclusive clip from No-End House to share with Daily Dead readers.
Congratulations on Candle Cove and the upcoming Channel Zero, Nick. Coming from the subtle, mind-melding psychological horror of Candle Cove, when you were planning the No-End House season in the writers’ room, were...

"This one is different, though. The haunted house is my family's house." Universal has unveiled an official trailer for the horror sequel Insidious: The Last Key, also known as just Insidious 4, since this is the latest in this on-going horror franchise. Perhaps the final sequel considering it's called The Last Key? Lin Shaye returns as Dr. Elise Rainier, the brilliant parapsychologist who ends up being terrorized in her own home by the demons that have been haunting houses ever since Insidious in 2010. Shaye is joined in the cast by Angus Sampson, Leigh Whannell, Josh Stewart, Caitlin Gerard, Kirk Acevedo, Javier Botet, Bruce Davison, Spencer Locke, Tessa Ferrer, Ava Kolker and Marcus Henderson. I was into the first two Insidious films, but totally lost interest after it became a "franchise". Have a look if you want. Here's the first official trailers (+ poster) for Adam Robitel's Insidious: The Last Key,...

Creepy Fun Trailer For Insidious: The Last Key! Dr. Elise Rainier Will Confront Her Nightmarish Past
"To end this evil, I need to go deep into the further."
The first trailer has been released for Insidious: The Last Key! This is the fourth film in the Insidious horror movie franchise and it looks really good! I'm a big fan of this franchise and I like the direction that they are taking this latest film.

That’s Where ‘It’ lives… The line uttered by Bill Denbrough appropriately titles the ‘It’ experience on Hollywood Blvd. In less than 10 days Warner Bros. turned an empty parking lot into a 5000-sq. ft. structure. House on Elm Lake opens with a terrified mother and young son bound and gagged while their knife-wielding patriarch paces and rants. The terror and confusion beams across loud and clear. Whatever is wrong with the husband, no amount of pleading from his wife or his child will change their fate. The scene is tense, the scene is harrowing, and because this is a horror movie, the scene is full of stabbing. Cut to years later and a new family, Haley, Eric, and their daughter Penny, movie into the quaint, lakeside home.
What the script lacks in originality, it certainly makes up for in competent scares. The haunted house genre may be well-worn territory, but it’s been a horror staple over several decades for a good reason.

A haunted house film is a tough sell. No masked stalker, no creatures that eviscerate and certainly no zombies lurching down those shadowed halls. A single setting, a dark secret, a group of people terrified by something is usually your standard template, and even the best haunted house flick doth not stray from the formula. So the trick is to convince the viewers once you get them inside – something that the low on budget, high on conviction, and seldom talked about The Evil (1978) accomplishes admirably.
Barely distributed in May of ‘78 by Roger Corman’s New World Pictures, The Evil was made for $700,000 Us and came and went very quickly. The filmmakers complained about the paltry distribution, but I’m sure Corman turned a profit somewhere down the line – he usually did. So from the modest budget, to the generic sounding title (why not just call it Horror Movie?) to the not exactly topical sub genre,...

Following the effects heavy bombast of "Pacific Rim," "Peak" finds del Toro back in dark fairytale mode. The haunted house pic stars Wasikowska as an aspiring author torn between the love for her childhood friend (Charlie Hunnam) and the temptation for a mysterious outsider (Tom Hiddleston). Trying to escape the ghosts of her tragic past, she gets swept away to a house where things aren't exactly as they seem. We've seen the supernatural sides of Wasikowsa and Hiddleston in indies like "Stoker" and "Only.

When we last interviewed Jessica Chastain in December during her press tour for "A Most Violent Year," the actress gleefully teased, "Wait until you see 'Crimson Peak." Now, thanks to the highly anticipated horror film's debut trailer, we finally have our first look at its gothic artistry and chilling supernatural suspense. Following the effects heavy bombast of "Pacific Rim," "Peak" finds visionary director Guillermo del Toro back in dark, gothic fairytale mode. The haunted house pic stars Mia Wasikowska as an aspiring author torn between the love for her childhood friend (Charlie Hunnam) and the temptation for a mysterious outsider (Tom Hiddleston). Trying to escape the ghosts of her tragic past, she gets swept away to a house where things aren't all as they seem. Co-starring Chastain in a devilish role we haven't seen her tackle yet, the film opens nationwide October 16. Although we have months to go before we can judge whether.

It sounded so surreal, we had to double-check it wasn't April Fools' Day when we first heard the news. A BBC theme park is in the early stages of development, and could arrive as early as 2020.
You could be riding the Only Fools and Horses wurlitzer or bashing against Nick Hewer and Karren Brady on The Apprentice dodgems in only 6 years' time. It may sound ridiculous, but the success of the Harry Potter Studio Tour suggests that cashing on huge entertainment franchises isn't actually a bad idea and might even work.
Here are our 9 best suggestions for possible rides. Any profits resulting from their success can be sent in an envelope to Digital Spy Towers.
1. The Top Gear Escape From Argentina Thrill Ride
A ride as fast as a lap with The Stig as you're taken on a whirlwind tour of a mocked-up Argentina, before an international incident means you have to escape.

The haunted house is a setting that will always appear in horror films. For decades, American movies have tried to find a way to reinvigorate the haunted house in every way from modernizing it to using the found footage approach to showcasing it. Still, for my money, nothing is scarier than an old English home. Something about them is just inherently creepier than even the scariest American home. Take for instance The Woman In Black 2: Angel Of Death. Following the sleeper hit starring...

Funny or insensitive? A section of a haunted house near Chicago devoted to serial killer John Wayne Gacy is drawing complaints, but the producers see it as something humorous and are calling it "art." The "Gacy room" is part of Rob Zombie's Great American Nightmare in the Chicago suburb of Villa Park. In a replica living room replete with 1970s-era wallpaper and furnishings, "Gacy" is dressed in a clown costume and the actor, complete with clown makeup, sits in a recliner blowing up balloons. Next to him sit two child-sized dolls dressed as Boy Scouts with khaki-colored ties and shorts.

Last week, we talked about various ways in which Doctor Who could have turned out very differently than it did – either because an actor stayed on longer than he did, or a pilot went to series, or things simply worked out in other ways. We covered some of the eternal burning questions, such as what would have happened if the Daleks had gotten their own series, or what would have happened if Sarah Jane Smith had gotten her own series far, far earlier than she did. For the most part, our answers were purely speculative – no one really knows what would have happened if, say, Hartnell had been forced out of the series earlier than he was by his bosses. But in a few cases, we know what could have been, and it makes some of us tear our hair out. Or maybe that’s just us…

Although Hammer Films will always be associated with British horror, the studio did have stiff competition. Amicus specialised in the successful horror anthologies and Us counterparts American International Pictures established a permanent UK base in the mid sixties. Other smaller independents took their own bite from the cherry tree of horror with some success, the best known being Tigon Films.
Tigon has received some belated recognition in recent years. Andy Boot’s book on British horror Fragments of Fear devotes a chapter to the company while John Hamilton’s excellent book Beast in the Cellar covers the varied career of Tigon’s charismatic founder Tony Tenser.
Like Hammer’s Sir James Carreras, Tenser was one of the British Film Industry’s great entrepreneurs. Born in London to poor Lithuanian immigrants and a movie fan since childhood, he was an ambitious man with a natural talent for showmanship. Combining shrewd business...

There are currently four Indiana Jones movies, and some might say that's one too many. But what about the Indy movies that never were?
For a new Indiana Jones movie to go forward, it requires a degree of agreement amongst three people who don't seem to have a habit of agreeing very much. Basically, Steven Spielberg, Harrison Ford and George Lucas all have to say yes, else the project stalls, and a different approach is taken.
As a consequence of this, there's a trail of unmade Indiana Jones films that failed to get the necessary unanimous agreement. The ingredients of some of them would find their way into others, and some ideas would never be returned to. Here then is a whistle-stop tour of the Indiana Jones movies that never were...

The latest trailer for Open Road Films’ A Haunted House 2 parodies films like The Conjuring and The Evil Dead. There’s also a fair amount of racist humor and Kardashian jokes. Check it out.
Marlon Wayans is back as his hilarious self (he really is very funny) in this Haunted House sequel. The parody movie will follow his character Malcolm who, after exorcising the demons of his ex, is starting fresh with his new girlfriend and her two children. After moving into their dream home, Malcolm is once again plagued by bizarre paranormal events. With spine-tingling tension and hilarious punch-lines A Haunted House 2 is inspired by the latest supernatural horror movie franchises and shows that this time… it’s not just the house that’s haunted!
The trailer is loaded with references to The Conjuring, including the creepy Hide and Clap game. There’s also an exorcism, and...

I think it's safe to say that we're all looking forward to Guillermo del Toro's upcoming film Crimson Peak the same way we look forward to everything he touches. Though we've still got a lot of looking forward to do, today comes confirmation of the shooting schedule.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, del Toro will begin production on Crimson Peak after he's finished shooting "The Strain" pilot for FX. The haunted house thriller will be shot at Pinewood Toronto Studios, with a schedule that begins on February 10 and wraps up on May 14.
Crimson Peak portrays a young author who discovers that her husband is not who he appears to be.
Tom Hiddleston, Emma Stone, Charlie Hunnam, Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, and Jim Beaver star with del Toro helming. He and Lucinda Coxon penned a rewrite of his and Matthew Robins' original script.
Del Toro previously described the film as “a very set-oriented,...

It doesn’t take much for me to be excited about any product dealing with John Carpenter’s Halloween. But goddamn if Mondo and Phantom City Creative didn’t hit it out of the park this time. GQ, of all places, got an exclusive of the upcoming release of John Carpenter’s iconic score for Halloween for the first time on vinyl. As someone that owns about every Anchor Bay DVD of this film, some VHS releases, the theme as my ringtone and the infamous high-pitched sting as my notification tone on my phone, you know I’m getting this. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if this one sold out as fast as the posters did.

Texas-based art gallery Mondo has continually impressed year after year, releasing limited edition art prints, VHS tapes and vinyl soundtracks that have drained our wallets and filled our homes with some of the coolest collectibles we've ever seen. There's a reason everything they touch turns to gold - their offerings almost always immediately sell out and then go for insane prices on eBay - and that reason is because they know what we want and they give us what we want.
That's precisely what they're planning on doing this Halloween, by releasing John Carpenter's iconic Halloween soundtrack on vinyl. GQ just broke the exclusive news about the release earlier today, which includes 28 tracks and marks the very first time the full version of Carpenter's soundtrack has ever been released on vinyl.

Hollywood has made some serious misjudgements when it comes to film titles in recent years: Avengers Assemble was an unnecessary decision informed by the stupid assumption that everyone in Britain would immediately think Tony Stark was about to face off against Sean Connery in a giant bear outfit, and both John Carter and Captain Phillips aren’t exactly the most inspiring titles ever released.
But, it has been an awful lot worse in the past, when brevity was apparently not something that ever came up for discussion. Titles could amble on aimlessly for hundreds of characters, without focus, and without the hooks needed to actually attract potential audiences, or in fact sell the film at all. And occasionally, the titles themselves could be flat out ludicrous, beyond the point of intrigue, and the result, especially for modern audiences fed on tight, smartly-conceived titles (for the most part) would be a...

I might be wrong, but I predict that after the Earth has suffered some kind of an apocalypse, and all that is left are the cockroaches, those same cockroaches are going to be making Paranormal Activity movies. Because even a roach can afford to make this stuff, assuming someone has taught them what .found footage. means. The haunted house that Jason Blum built will not be stopped, and Paranormal Activity 5 has landed a director to go with its newly signed writers, according to Deadline. But while it was somewhat exciting when Catfish.s Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman came into the franchise on the third entry, there.s no real reason to perk up here. Gregory Plotkin will be making his directorial debut with P.A. 5, but he.s not a newbie here. He served as an editor for the last three films, as well as the upcoming spinoff...

Halloween is just around the corner and haunted houses, spook alleys, and attractions are popping up all over the place! Now there's one in Pennsylvania that is kind of upping the ante--people basically walk through it naked. I guess being naked is supposed to make things even scarier? It takes place at the "premier haunted scream park" during Shocktoberfest this fall. This just seems so odd... Here's the run down...
It's called The Naked and Scared Challenge. The haunted house still has the usual array of people jumping out to scare you . . . only now you're facing them without any clothes on.The people behind the haunted house say you don't have to worry about a bunch of people staring at you naked . . . since it's completely dark in the haunted house and only people who are allowed in there with you are also naked as a jay bird. According to Pop2It, the Doctor has been spotted in Florida this spooky autumn season:
“Doctor Who” fans that visit Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights are in for a special treat when they walk through the “An American Werewolf in London” maze. The haunted house follow’s the movie’s narrative and as you get close to the end, there’s a very familiar blue police box sitting in the road, next to a crashed double-decker bus.
…
Creative Director Michael Aiello says the reason for the inclusion was simple. “We had that in our warehouse forever and we needed to fill a space,” he explains. The maze is set in London, so it’s not too big of a stretch. Does this mean “An American Werewolf in London” takes place in the “Doctor Who” universe, though? Ponder that for a while.

Capcom teams up with Universal Studios to bring the long-lived survival horror franchise to the 23rd Halloween Horror Nights.
The haunted house was made in collaboration with Capcom, spanning multiple games in the series. According to a press release from Universal released this morning, the haunted house will include monster types like the Cerberus and Nemesis stalking guests through the Halloween exhibit. Universal is promising that being in the haunted house will be like being inside of the multi-game series, including one room which will be presented as a paused action tableau.
This last part is the most curious: the last decade has seen "Resident Evil" shift from a horror-focused series to one driven more by action across all media. From the games to the fairly successful Paul W.S. Anderson-led film series, it's all about the guns and monsters rather than the scares. Still, I'm wondering how the wider...

The Complex
Written by Junya Kato and Ryûta Miyake
Directed by Hideo Nakata
Japan, 2013
After several recent ventures into other genres with rather mixed results, The Complex marks Hideo Nakata’s return to what he is best known for: supernatural horror. The director who helped put Japanese horror on the map with his groundbreaking Ringu (1998) and its sequel the following year, Ringu 2 (1999), has produced some of his finest work here, with The Ring Two (2005) perhaps serving as an exception to this rule. Whilst The Complex is not without its merits, Nakata’s latest outing falls considerably short of the reinvention that J-horror has been crying out for.
Similarly to Dark Water (2002), the film begins as a modern take on the haunted house story, as Asuka (Atsuko Maeda) moves in to an apartment where she starts witnessing increasingly strange occurrences. Whilst it starts rather predictably, thankfully the plot twist around...
