La Femme Nikita (1997–2001)
5/10
A fashion assassin

"La Femme Nikita" (5 seasons, 96 eps, 1hr) is based on 1990's "Nikita" by Luc Besson. It's a glossy, highly production value series that breaks some interesting ground for the late '90s, especially her character's fashion choices. However, it ultimately fails for me in the plausibility department. Nikita should've been "cancelled" many times but was spared due to personal weakness exhibited by an emotionless, enigmatic "Michael". Nikita quickly loses her insecurities and vulnerabilities and exhibits an unearned contempt for Section One, and is in fact insubordinate during missions so many times, it's just ridiculous she wasn't immediately sent down the trash chute. She's an assassin with a conscience and makes for "aw c'mon" tv. It's not an awful show, it just doesn't excel to meet its potential.
