The Santa Barbara International Film Festival has unveiled its 2015 line-up which includes films representing 54 countries, 23 world premieres and 53 U.S. premieres. The U.S. premiere of Niki Caro’s McFarland USA will close out the 30th fest. Based on the 1987 true story and starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello, the film follows novice runners from McFarland, an economically challenged town in California’s farm-rich Central Valley, as they give their all to build a cross-country team under the direction of Coach Jim White (Costner), a newcomer to their predominantly Latino high school. The unlikely band of runners overcomes the odds to forge not only a championship cross-country team but an enduring legacy as well.
The festival runs from January 27-February 7.
Below is the list of World and U.S. Premiere films followed by the list of titles by sidebar categories.

A self-acknowledged "showcase for Academy Award frontrunners," the Santa Barbara International Film Festival is often overlooked for the actual films that earn it festival status. An amalgamation of international discoveries and ’merica’s circuit highlights, the Sbiff curates a week of best-of-the-best to pair with their star-praising. The 2015 edition offers another expansive selection, bookended by two films that aren’t on any radars just yet. Sbiff will open with "Desert Dancer," producer Richard Raymond’s directorial debut. Starring Reece Ritchie and Frieda Pinto, the drama follows a group of friends who wave off the harsh political climate of Iran’s 2009 presidential election in favor of forming a dance team, picking up moves from Michael Jackson, Gene Kelly and Rudolf Nureyev thanks to the magic of YouTube. The festival will close with "McFarland, USA," starring Kevin Costner and Maria Bello. Telling the 1987 true story of a Latino high school’s underdog cross-country team,...

A shy Catalan high schooler, Pol (Orial Pla) resides with his older brother, Llorenc (Javier Beltran). While not at school, Pol hangs out with his best friend, a walking and talking Teddy Bear named Deerhoof. Pol knows better than to confide in either of his two friends at school -- Laia (Rosier Tapas) and Mark (Dimitri Leonidas) -- about Deerhoof, so no one knows about Deerhoof except for Llorenc who thinks Pol is crazy; and considering that no one else can see or hear Deerhoof, Llorenc's diagnosis seems to be pretty spot on. Still trying to navigate his own sexual orientation, Pol naively ignores the flirtatious advances of Laia. It is not until Pol becomes obsessed with two mysterious new students -- Clara (Maria Rodríguez) and Ikari (Augustus Prew) -- that his sexual preference begins to grow more apparent. When Clara dies mysteriously, the door is opened for Pol to...

What Are Friends For?: Fores’ Debut Slow Burn Bizarre Falters at the Finish
While it’s most memorable element will undoubtedly remind audiences of Donnie Darko or a more sinister version of Seth McFarlane’s Ted, Spanish filmmaker Marcal Flores’ debut, Animals, resides entirely in its own weird little universe. A nightmarish coming-out tale, the strange and surreal take a subdued backseat to dry humor, though a prescient uneasiness always seems to gnaw at the outskirts of the action. But Fores’ doesn’t manage to land the ship smoothly, and an overtly dramatic final few frames considerably diminishes the methodical menace established by the protagonist’s anticipated instability.
Pol (Orial Pla) is an introverted teenager that lives alone with his older brother, Llorenc (Javier Beltran), a cop that gruffly tries to keep an eye on him. Pol spends a majority of his time alone, playing or listening to alternative...

Could a gay "Twilight" be in the works?
The idea of Edward Cullen engaging in a same-sex romance might break a few teenage girls' hearts, but that's exactly what series star Robert Pattinson hinted at during an interview with Ellen DeGeneres ahead of "Breaking Dawn Part 2," which is released Nov. 16. After co-star Taylor Lautner pointed out the blockbuster movies have now covered all four of Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" books, Pattinson said he'd be willing to sign on for another installment -- with a twist.
"I was also thinking another way to do it would be to make it look like 'Will and Grace,' where Edward turns gay," Pattinson joked to DeGeneres. Still, don't exact sparks to fly between Edward (Pattinson) and teen werewolf Jacob (Lautner) anytime soon -- as Pattinson explained, Edward would "stay together" with Bella (Kristen Stewart) in his version.

Fans may have gotten all in a tizzy over Kristen Stewart's recent real-life indiscretions, but Robert Pattinson hasn't exactly been the most faithful soul either, at least cinematically.
R.Pattz has more than a few notches on his belt on the big screen, including "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1" and his new head trip "Cosmopolis," and we're going to count every single salacious piece of tail this sparkly vampire has sunk his teeth, among other things, into.
'Vanity Fair' (2004)
Character: Rawdy Crawley
Number of Conquests: 0
Although his scenes were deleted and only available as an alternate ending on the DVD, this film is notable for being Pattinson's first major appearance and his first role alongside Reese Witherspoon. He briefly plays the son of her literary heroine Becky Sharp, a pairing that would come back to haunt him later in his career.

Robert Pattinson has repeatedly spoken about his vagina allergy, but he assures UK's Sunday Times he is straight and talks about the nitty gritty of filming sex scenes with both men and women. Here are some excerpts: On his gay sex scenes in last year's film 'Little Ashes' with Javier Beltran: "Strange. I played Salvador Dali. We were both straight, but he was Spanish, so much more confident about being naked and stuff, although when it comes down to it, it's just as awkward with a girl, especially if you are straight and with a girl you don't like... Anyway, Javier was really cool. After we had been pretending to have sex on this balcony in Barcelona, he was like, 'We have such a strange job...'" On shooting sex scenes with Emilie de Ravin in 'Remember Me': "And when you end...

In the age of Jazz and surrealism, anyone visiting an elite university residence in Madrid, Spain would find the odd and competitive—both in art or otherwise—friendship between three young prodigies: painter Salvador Dali, filmmaker Luis Bunuel and dramatist/poet Federico Garcia Lorca. Their work proved to outlast the three friends by decades, but Little Ashes is more interested in the strokes of their hips than their pen or brush.
Made before Twilight but released theatrically only last year (and on DVD now), Little Ashes is not exactly the Robert Pattinson-as-Salvador Dali biopic his fans might like to see. He is, in fact, only one part of a love triangle, and not even the one in center. Javier Beltran, the only actual Spaniard of the three, plays the poet Garcia Lorca, who takes that honor.

The Hurt Locker (Summit Entertainment) Absorbing character study follows the leader (Jeremy Renner) of a bomb squad unit in Iraq and his growing addiction to the adrenaline-fueled life and death edge that he and his men must walk on a daily basis. Director Kathryn Bigelow, an unheralded great filmmaker for nearly two decades, has finally hit paydirt with this gut-wrenching examination of war as drug, as opposed to hell. That said, The Hurt Locker is 2/3 of a great movie that takes a wild left turn in a subplot involving Renner’s character and that of a local boy to whom he takes a shine, and never quite recovers its momentum. In spite of that hiccup, it remains one of the best films of 2009 and, thus far, the finest cinematic exploration of America’s war in the Middle East. Also available on Blu-ray disc, in...

Okay, ladies, you need your Robert Pattinson fix. And you need it bad. But you've already seen The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009) a dozen times and you just can't wait for either Remember Me (2010) or The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010) to open. What are you going to do? Well, we've got some breaking news for you. If you want to check out Pattinson in something really-really different, get ready to visit Blockbuster or reach out to Netflix, as a small, little-seen film everyone's favorite new leading man shot a few years back, pre-Twilight, will arrive on DVD on January 26. It's called Little Ashes (2009) and it casts Pattinson as the eccentric but talented surrealist painter Salvador Dali. Little Ashes is quite unlike anything else in Pattinson's filmography, as far from Twilight (2008) and Harry Potter as could possibly be. It's a period piece, one that tackles taboo issues, and it's not the least bit commercial.

Hello, Dali! "Twi light" hunk Robert Pattinson goes over to the other team -- at least for a while -- as the eccentric Spanish artist in "Little Ashes," an exceedingly silly historical fantasy.

Little Ashes, which has been met with heavy anticipation from fans of its star Robert Pattinson (also star of The Twilight Saga: New Moon and How To Be), opens in theatres across the United States today. The film, which is expected to fare quite nicely this weekend, highlights a specific time in the life of Spanish surrealist artist Salvador Dali (played by Pattinson) in which he meets and becomes conflicted over his love for Federico Garcia Lorca (played by Javier Beltran). The film also stars Matthew McNulty and Marina Gatell ... Says director Paul Morrison about Little Ashes, “the good thing about [it] is that it doesn’t attempt to be a biopic. It doesn’t try to tell the whole story, it just explores one seminal moment. Really, it’s a love story, and that’s what gives it power.” Says producer Carlo Dusi...

A few days ago, a video of Robert Pattinson's kissing scene with Javier Beltran was released. In the video, the 22-year-old heartthrob is seen making out with his co-star when they are soaking into the water. Asked about his sex scenes on the movie, which will hit U.S. theaters on May 8, Pattinson previously told GQ magazine,...

“We made it in the spirit of . . . just need[ing] to make this film, it’s crying out to be done, without expectations of what will happen to it,” says Paul Morrison, director of Little Ashes about his film. “But I’ve been around long enough to know it’s when you least expect it that good things can happen.” Little Ashes (which will be released this Friday, May 8, in the United States) has been met with great anticipation. Starring (The Twilight Saga: New Moon and How To Be star) Robert Pattinson, Javier Beltran, Matthew McNulty, and Marina Gatell, and produced by Carlo Dusi, the film will present an ephemeral biopic of the life of Salvador Dali – a Spanish artist whose art, some say, is impossibly well done. As a director, Paul Morrison is known for his work in Wondrous Oblivion, Solomon And Gaenor, and Degas And Pissarro Fall Out. With Little Ashes nearing release,...

I'm not up on my Twilight fan psychology, so I'm not sure if devotees of Edward and Bella will be intrigued at all by Little Ashes, an upcoming movie in which Robert Pattinson plays a young Salvador Dali and get is on with lots of fellow Spaniards, male and female. Isn't the whole idea of Twilight fandom that you believe Pattinson really is Edward, and therefore seeing him kiss someone else is sacrilege? Anyway, we got a brief glimpse of Pattinson's boy-on-boy action in the Little Ashes trailer a few months ago, but now Towleroad has posted a full clip of Pattinson's sex scene with co-star Javier Beltran, who plays writer Federico Garcia Lorca. If you're not a Twilight fan but enjoy seeing handsome boys kiss each other, I promise you'll like it too. We've embedded the video below; try to keep a squealing to the minimum.

Robert Pattinson has indeed gone all and out for his performance in "Little Ashes" as can be seen in the indie drama's new clip. The snippet which runs for more than one minute displays the "Twilight" hunk as Spanish artist Salvador Dali and Javier Beltran as Dali's lover, writer Federico Garcia Lorca.
Opened with a shot of a full moon unveiling itself, the clip moves on showing that both Dali and Lorca are taking a dip in what seems to be a sea. Filled with sexual tension, the two 'dance' in the water, before they take their passionate love affair to the next level. Swimming closer and closer to each other, they finally lock their lips against one another.

By now every fan of Twilight knows that star Robert Pattinson -- he of the half-lidded gaze and spectacularly poofy hair -- will next be seen as painter Salvador Dali in the biopic Little Ashes, opening May 8. They've seen the pictures of his unconvincing mustache. They know that the film focuses on Dali's romantic relationship with Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca, played by Javier Beltran. And perhaps they even grasp that that means that everyone's favorite sparkly vampire will be gettin' down with some boy-boy smooching.
The La Times asked director Paul Morrison the inevitable question, "How hard was it for Pattinson and Beltran to roll around on each other and play tonsil hockey?" and Twilight groupies may be dismayed to hear that Pattinson didn't reach for Listerine after every take: "I think Rob probably found it harder than Javier, to draw the line between performance and, ah, but that...

Carlo Dusi, internationally respected producer of Little Ashes (directed by Paul Morrison) and The Absinthe Drinkers (directed by John Charles Jopson), has certainly come by his reputation for spectacular film selection honestly. Dusi, who previously produced such films as Broken Lines, Nightwatching, and A Life in Suitcases, is no stranger to the international independent film world. I spoke with Carlo Dusi about his most recent accession, The Absinthe Drinkers (starring The Twilight Saga: New Moon star Peter Facinelli along with Ondine star Alicja Bachleda) as well as his furiously release-approaching Little Ashes (starring How To Be star Robert Pattinson, Javier Beltran and Matthew McNulty)....

A month away from "Little Ashes" theatrical release, MTV has got its hands on two exclusive clips from the indie drama. Though they are each less than a minute long, the two manage to reel in snippets at Robert Pattinson's portrayal of young Salvador Dali as well as Javier Beltran's Federico Garcia Lorca and Matthew McNulty's Luis Bunuel.
The first clip, "Salvador Dali Has a New Look", opens with a scene wherein Lorca and Bunuel discuss how to make a difference in the world. While they are arguing about it, Bunuel spots Dali and his newly cleaned-up look, stating that "The girls will go crazy." Meanwhile, the second clip, "Dali Inspires Lorca's Work", shows that the relationship between Dali and Lorca is developing.

MTV have two new clips from indie movie Little Ashes, which stars Robert Pattinson and Javier Beltran.
Pattinson adopts a Spanish accent for the role, as well as a strange moustache and a somewhat proper wardrobe. Twilight fans will be used to seeing him sporting an all-black ensemble with un-washed hair, which is a far cry from the suit and tie get-up Salvador Dali wore. What do you think, Twilighters? Is this a look Pattinson can pull off? We're just thankful he's wearing clothes.

Displaying the 22-year-old while he stands naked in front of a mirror, the image was posted by Perez Hilton and is taken from his forthcoming indie movie, "Little Ashes", in which the British actor portrays young Salvador Dali.

Access Hollywood has tantalizing footage of New Moon's Robert Pattinson and his co-star Javier Beltran from their upcoming flick Little Ashes. In the clip, Pattinson (who plays famed artist Salvador Dali) cuddles with his lover Federico Lorca (Beltran) on the beach—complete with Beltran reciting poetry and lovingly rubbing Pattinson's head: Later on, the battling artful lovers (Rob sporting Dali's infamous upswept moustache) argue over champagne. The good news for Beltran is that, in such intimate proximity to the Twilight star, Rob does occasionally hit himself with a bar of soap. "I also do shower," Pattinson told Moviefone in a recent interview, despite reports that.

Access Hollywood has several exclusive clips from Robert Pattinson's upcoming indie movie Little Ashes.
Little Ashes sees Pattinson play 18-year-old artist Salvador Dali, and follows Dali's university years in Madrid circa 1922. Also starring Javier Beltran as Federico Garcia Lorca and Matthew McNulty as Luis Bunuel, the film has so far garnered critical acclaim, though it's still unclear whether it will be released in theaters.
As his character experiments with his sexuality, Twilighters can expect to see a different side of Pattinson. Do you think this was a good career move? We're sure his hordes of fans will soon be sharing their opinions, though with the film rated R, we're not sure many of them will actually get to see it.
