Composer Jesper Kyd is returning to the “Assassin’s Creed” franchise. He will score the upcoming “Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla” alongside Sarah Schachner, who worked on “Assassin’s Creed: Origins” and, more recently, “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.”
Norwegian musician Einar Selvik will team with the pair to create original songs for the soundtrack.
Fans of the original and Ezio trilogy will be delighted that Kyd, a Danish composer, will score the ‘Valhalla’ Viking quest. His “Ezio’s Family” theme is one of the franchise’s most enduring compositions. Kyd’s additional credits include “Borderlands 3,” “State of Decay 2” and “Warhammer: Vermintide 2.”
Kyd, who has been scoring games since 1995, has seen gaming music come a long way. Scoring sessions are now done with full orchestras and the end result run anywhere from three to five hours of original music covers different aspects of the game.
Selvik is another fitting addition to the “Assassin’s Creed” universe.

Having in mind both India’s rich mythological heritage and the state of development of the country’s cinema, it is quite strange that the top-quality horror-fantasy works rarely come from the world’s second most populous country. However the trend can shift quickly since “Tumbbad” is one of the best and most efficient horror films seen in years. The critical response is good, the world premiere as the opening film of the last year’s edition of Venice Critics Week opened the possibilities for a long festival tour and the film was already released theatrically in India.
“Tumbbad” is screening at Five Flavours Asian Film Festival
The opening quote by Mahatma Gandhi citing that the world is enough for people’s needs, but not for their greed, sets the topic rarely and usually superficially explored in genre cinema. It is followed by an obscure piece of mythology about Hastar,...

The view from Apm Music’s office on Sunset Boulevard is expansive, from downtown to Dodger Stadium, to Century City and all points west. The company has been in the same tower since opening its doors in Los Angeles in 1984, but it’s moved up in the world, from a few rooms to most of the ninth floor. Apm has scaled the heights in more ways than one. “We’re the largest production music library in North America, if not the world,” says company president Adam Taylor. Apm music can be heard in films and trailers for projects including “Dumbo,” “Us,” “Green Book” and “A Star Is Born.” The collection has also become popular for sampling, with artists like Jay-z, Chance the Rapper and Missy Elliott among those who have availed themselves of Apm’s easy licensing and legal indemnification.

Fantastic Fest 2018 played host to an amazing array of films from all over the world, including Tumbbad, a timeless tale of greed and the demons we must face in our lives, both figuratively and literally. A truly haunting and ambitious film set in a remote village in India, Tumbbad impressed me with not only its confidence in world-building, but it also manages to explore some universal themes with its slight fairy tale bent that feels akin to the early films from Guillermo del Toro.
While in Austin, Daily Dead chatted with both co-writer/co-director Adesh Prasad and composer Jesper Kyd about their experiences working on Tumbbad, and they discussed story inspirations, putting together the film’s score, handling the challenges of making Tumbbad, and more.

When the first trailer for “Assassin’s Creed” was released earlier this year, many took notice of one especially incongruous element: the music. Kanye West’s “I Am a God” seemed an odd choice to accompany footage of a 15th-century assassin played by Michael Fassbender, but the actual film score appears to have been much more well received. Listen to it below.

Notably, these compositions are not the work of Jesper Kyd, who’s responsible for scoring the video games on which Justin Kurzel’s film is based. Kurzel’s brother Jed handled the music for the movie, as he did on last year’s “Macbeth” (which likewise starred Fassbender opposite Marion Cotillard). Though Kyd has also worked on film scores, his silver-screen efforts have mostly been on smaller projects.

Having to fight for your life against zombies in rural America is scary in itself, but add to it a moody musical score and the uneasy atmosphere becomes ten times creepier. In Microsoft Studio’s zombie-survival video game, State of Decay, now available on the Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows, veteran video game composer Jesper Kyd surrounds gamers with the seemingly soothing sounds of small town Americana, before cranking up the terror when the living dead attack.
For the latest part of our Q&A series, we caught up with State of Decay composer Jesper Kyd, who told us about his experience creating a beautiful and haunting score for a video game environment that’s infested with zombies.

You will never forget your first trip into the animus, because you had never seen anything quite like it. Looking out on the shining rooftops of Damascus, Acre, and Jerusalem, just knowing that almost every texture was climbable. Those incredible graphics (that I would argue still hold up today) blending in with the masses of crowds, to eventually be interrupted by those pesky beggars. The combat, while clunky, was different, the time period was interesting, and you had a freaking hidden blade.
Saying that, the game often suffered the plague of repetitiveness and those clunky controls all too often got you into trouble (and man didn’t it seem like you couldn’t do anything without the guards being on high alert). And did you ever expect your Crusade assassin adventure was all taking place in the modern day? Cool, right? I guess not, since it doesn’t seem many...

This presented a welcome challenge: a lot of games sounded pretty good, and it took some time to whittle the choices down to just a top three. That's not going to stop us from pointing your earholes towards some worthy runners-up.

Darksiders II/Assassin's Creed composer Jesper Kyd is joined by Mass Effect 3's Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan (aka Sonic Mayhem) and Gearbox's own Raison Varner to bring music to Pandora next month.
The September 18th soundtrack (which will be getting both a physical and digital release through Sumthing Else Music Works), is comprised of 23 tracks from the quartet of composers. From the looks of it, most of them are named based on locations, so folks worrying about, you know, spoiling the story can read on.
From the official announcement:
Composers Jesper Kyd (Assassin's Creed), Cris Velasco and Sascha Dikiciyan (Mass Effect 3), with additional music from Raison Varner (Gearbox Software), created a colorful and dynamic music score for Borderlands 2's adrenaline-fuelled combat and diverse atmospheric environments. I'm curious to what extent working in anthology format on the upcoming Metal Hurlant Chronicles affected composer Jesper Kyd when he tackled the soundtrack for Darksiders II. The musician, whose soundtrack work has been part of Hitman for Io Interactive and Assassin's Creed at Ubisoft had a vast, empty, post apocalyptic landscape to work with in Darksiders II and I wouldn't have been surprised if the initial instinct with that kind of thing is to hit the player over the head with the usual driving horns and percussive sounds we've come to associate with Skyrim or Kingdoms of Amalur.
Instead, Kyd's produced a work with an almost sci-fi sound, a strange and still fitting complement to Death's savage attempts to bring the human race back to life and redeem his brother, War. After spending a few hours with the Darksiders II Ost, I spoke to Kyd about his work on...

Those who follow the entertainment industry will be accustomed to hearing the term sleeper hit, which refers to a well-made title that was released under the radar. It’s an unfortunate result of how things work, as big releases tend to receive high advertising budgets that occasionally dwarf their competitors. It’s that lack of advertising, coupled with low consumer awareness and the fact that many gamers tend to only play triple-a releases, which occasionally sees quality games fall into the aforementioned category, but there are other factors that can contribute to the status. Though, in the end, it all relates to sales, and sleeper hits tend not to excel in that category, even though fans and media members try to recommend them as much as possible.

It's an interesting concept, that's for sure.
Of all the films, TV shows and games that you may have interacted with - in some form or another - over the years, I'd be pretty darn confident to say that not once had you played, viewed or imagined 'Death', or, to be specific, the Horseman Death, as some form of 'good guy'. And yet this is what presents itself within Thq's latest offering, Darksiders II.
However, before we lose all track of our sanity we must consider the history of this series. Our protagonist in the original Darksiders was War himself, a man hated by both heaven and hell (and you thought you were unpopular), and it is the [unjust] imprisonment of 'War' that spurs Death's journey here in the sequel.
But what of the gameplay? What of the storyline? And ultimately, have Thq and Vigil Games listened to their fans, to...

Hey gang! Check out this awesome new sci-fi short film created by aspiring filmmaker, Patrick Kalyn. The film is called Somnolence, and Kalyn just finished production on it.
According to /Film, "Kalyn is an Emmy nominated visual effects animator, who has worked on films such as Avatar, District 9, I, Robot, King Kong, X-Men: The Last Stand, 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Jumper, The Water Horse, and television series like Stargate Sg-1. Filmed for $10,000 in 2 days in Vancouver, BC using Red Cameras, the short is part of a larger story that Kalyn hopes to develop into a feature film (a treatment is written)...
