The recent trend of docu-feature series exploring the history of popular IPs is gradually becoming popular among dedicated fans due to how genuinely interesting and informative they can be. The most recently released among such ventures is the first season of Robodoc: The Creation of Robocop, a Screambox original, which takes a look back at the excruciating production process, development, and brainstorming that went behind the 1987 sci-fi classic Robocop. The movie is still considered one of the topmost sci-fi pieces ever released by Western media, which was not only topical and philosophical but it has also proven itself to be timeless, at least in the current era more than ever.
The four one-hour-long episodes, which include excerpts from detailed narrations of the chief creator duo Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner, director Paul Verhoeven, the Robocop actor Peter Weller himself, cinematographer Josh Vacano, production designer Phil Tippett, William Sandell (Rob Bottin...

;In 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the two-time Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett ("Blue Jasmine") played scientist and military officer, Colonel Doctor Irina Spalko. She was killed at the end of the movie when she demanded the inter-dimensional aliens to give her all of their knowledge. The power is too much for her mere mortal form and she disintegrates. Neat. But, it would've looked a bit different with her face partially chewed off. Yup, the original plan was to have a portion of her face consumed by the vicious ants seen earlier in the film. Below, is concept art illustrator Miles Teves designed for the unused sequence. Indiana Jones is back in a new globe-trotting adventure, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.” Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford as Indy, “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” features an outstanding cast,...

In this interesting little gem that was recently unearthed, we learn that not only was Mel Gibson offered the role of Wolverine, but they also made some preliminary drawings of him in the role.
We found this over at Yahoo, and it appears that before Hugh Jackman stepped into the role that made him the star he is now, Gibson was the filmmakers' first option when it came to playing one of the coolest superheroes ever. At the time of the original X-Men, Gibson was at the apex of his career. Dude had won an Oscar for Braveheart, and it looked like nothing could stop him. What a difference a few years makes.
Here is what the Yahoo article said about the drawing:

By now everyone knows the story of how Russell Crowe was offered the role of Wolverine in Bryan Singer's 2000 "X-Men" movie. The actor ended up turning it down and strongly recommending Hugh Jackman, who eventually got the part. But before all that, Mel Gibson was offered the part. It's not clear how close he got to actually playing the character, but today we have an idea of what the actor would have looked like as Wolverine. The concept art comes from artist Miles Teves, who has worked on such films as "Total Recall" and "RoboCop." Check out the image below. Image: (click to enlarge)...

How close he actually came to playing the part is unknown, but providing the above concept sketch from artist Miles Teves (Total Recall, RoboCop, The Chronicles of Riddick, Legend) is legit, it may well have been closer than we thought. Do you think Gibson would have made a good Logan?...

Did you know that at one time Al Pacino was rumored to be up for the role of Lestat in the 1994 feature film adaptation of Interview with a Vampire? Even though Tom Cruise ended up in the role, the studio apparently wanted to see what Al Pacino would look like as the character. They hired concept artist Miles Teves from Stan Winston Studios to give them idea of that vision. Teves said,
"For a short time, at the beginning of the production, Al Pacino was rumored to have wanted the role of LeStat [sic]. I provided this image to help the studio make a decision. His presence as an actor, though an unusual choice, might have infused the character with more gravitas. Few command the screen like the indomitable Pacino."
It would have been interesting to see Pacino in this role, but I'm kind of glad he didn't end up in the role.

"This design was for a singular Terminator robot we referred to as the 'Black Terminator' or the 'Assassin'. He was to be a special robot dispatched to hunt down our hero relentlessly, much like the Terminators of the previous films. He was to be very tall, made of anodized, black-chromed, titanium, and to be outfitted with special weaponry. He was to be unique in some way, yet similar to the T-600. Here, in this drawing, I have borrowed elements from one my my favorite yet underrated robotic, movie villain designs, to try to give him a more interesting and menacing silhouette." - Miles Teves In the aftermath of Judgment Day and the machine takeover, resistance leader John Connor (Christian Bale) must counter Skynet’s plan to terminate mankind. Rallying his underground street fighters for a last, desperate battle, he realizes that to save the future he must rescue his own...

The concept art below by artist Miles Teves shows off several versions of a much sexier Batgirl costume that would could have been worn by Alicia Silverstone in Joel Schumacker’s Batman & Robin.
I knew as I drew this that it could never work on Alicia Silverstone. Though she was sweet and adorable, she was also not 9 feet tall, and had rather more realistic proportions.
Bob Ringwood, the costume designer, always asked me to draw my figures to be about 9 heads tall like they do in the fashion world. He didn’t seem to mind that what would work as a concept on someone with those impossible proportions, would not work on a person with real-world human measurements. However, it did make for more heroic and ‘sexy’ drawings that could sell a design to a fussy director or nervous studio head.
I regret that my idea of the cut-out Bat symbol window on the chest,...

Yes, read it over and over again and ask yourself, “Did he truly title the article correctly?” Well, yes, I did and here is the reason why: Because he is going to be on there! This is the season where leaves change colors, the air gets colder, and everyone dresses up for a magical night known as Halloween. Being who I am, Halloween has always been my favorite holiday and once September comes, it’s time to look at the network list and see what channels are showing holiday specials. From It’s The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown to Martha Stewart’s Halloween decoration show, I have watched it all. Yet, I was completely taken back when I looked online and saw that The Food Network has two very special guests on one of their programs. Read more after the break for who will be joining Mr. Zombie on a...

I never thought I’d see the day when I’d write up a story that features both the names Rob Zombie and the Food Network in the same sentence. The rocking filmmaker will join Goosebumps author R.L. Stine and horror hotties Jaime King and Scout Taylor-Compton as judges on Food Network’s frightful cooking competition “Halloween Wars” this October.
Here’s the Food Network press release explaining the concept behind this four-week limited series that pits teams of sweets specialists locking devil horns to see whose edible Halloween display is the most impressively horrific:

Playbill God help us all. Suri Cruise is making her first movie appearance in the musical Rock of Ages (2012).
Daily Beast Were Waiting For Guffman's Corky St. Clair and Marcus Bachmann "Separated at Birth". oh lol, good hearty life-affirming lol.
Cinema Blend Omg first images from Amy Heckerling's Vamps with Alicia Silverstone, Krysten Ritter and Sigourney Weaver, though no one has fangs! Remember when we thought that movie might get Michelle Pfeiffer? Sigh. Good times. So glad SigWeavie got it if we couldn't have La Pfeiff. Speaking of vampires, if you haven't checked out the latest True Blood episode review, please do.

IndieWire wonders if James Marsh (Project Nim) is the new Werner Herzog, equally at home in documentary and narrative worlds.

Walt Disney Pictures has released, via IGN, eight pieces of ghoulish concept art from the fourth chapter in its successful Pirates franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Zombies staggered into a major television series last year with Frank Darabont’s The Walking Dead. They’ve been popular monsters in mainstream cinema since around Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil then Shaun of the Dead, give or take. Despite being cold, rotten and cannibalistic, zombies are hot property. That’s why deadheads will be making an appearance in Rob Marshall’s Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.
IGN showed off some nice artwork by concept artist Miles Teves recently via Empire. Check some of them out below. Don’t expect be expecting Lucio Fulci Caribbean-style zombies. It won’t be “Captain Jack Sparrow Vs. The Zombie Flesh Eaters” – which would be an ace movie spin-off. Think about it Disney!

The fourth installment from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is nearing release, and Disney is pumping out promo material for the film left and right. Most of what we’ve seen has been lighthearted and fun, but now we have something a bit more brainy. Disney has released some concept art of some of the zombies that Captain Jack Sparrow meets to IGN.
These images were drawn by concept artist Miles Teves, a guy who has done a lot of work in Hollywood. That link goes to his website where you can see a huge showcase of the work he’s done. Check out the zombie pics after the jump.
Here are those zombies I have been promising you, and I think they look pretty cool. I’d hoped to see more brains and rotting flesh, but hey, this is a “kids” movie. Click on the images below to see the bigger versions.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is sailing swiftly towards us and today brings a pictorial treat a little different from the parade of posters, banners or Johnny Depp looking kooky. Disney has decided instead to go a little spooky, giving IGN some new concept art of the zombies – yes, we said zombies – which Cap’n Jack and co will meet in the movie.Drawn by concept artist Miles Teves, the new images promise appealingly grim zomboids that put us in mind of the ghoulish spirit pirates from the first film. And frankly, anything that reminds of the original Curse of the Black Pearl instead of the waterlogged sequels is all right by us.As for Stranger Tides’ plot, this adventure sees Jack Sparrow on a hunt for the mythical Fountain of Youth alongside friend/nemesis (frenemesis?) Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Along the way, they fall afoul of not just Jack’s ex,...
