Prime Video has released the first photos from My Lady Jane, the quick-witted romantic new series set in an alt-fantasy Tudor world. The series will premiere exclusively on Prime Video on Thursday, June 27, in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.
Inspired by the best-selling book, My Lady Jane is a radical retelling of English royal history, in which King Henry VIII’s son Edward does not die of tuberculosis, Lady Jane Grey is not beheaded, and neither is her rascal of a husband, Guildford.
At the center of this rollicking new series is the brilliant and headstrong Jane, who is unexpectedly crowned queen overnight and finds herself the target of nefarious villains coming for the crown (and her head)… My Lady Jane is an epic tale of true love and high adventure, where the damsel in distress saves herself, her true love, and then the Kingdom.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could have led the royal family out of its current royal health crisis. However, a royal correspondent believes the palace “failed” by allowing the couple to exit without anticipating such situations. They could have taken the “full mantle” while King Charles and Kate Middleton recuperated.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could have stepped in during health crisis
Royal correspondent Daniela Elser believes Kensington Palace didn’t contemplate every possible situation when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle exited the royal family in 2020. When the couple chose to leave their duties as senior royals behind, the palace let them go.
Elser wrote, “Thanks to Harry’s memoir Spare, [the palace’s] attempts to come up with some strategy never really got off the ground. While the idea was floated for the Sussexes to relocate to South Africa, which they were keen to do, that fell by the wayside after it ended up in the press.

Prince Harry’s no longer a “royal highness,” as far as the British royal family’s website goes. It underwent a small update, particularly surrounding the Duke of Sussex’s title, which an expert doesn’t believe was a “slight.”

After The Daily Express called out the royal family’s website for calling Harry “His Royal Highness,” his title changed. On the website, that is. Harry went from an Hrh to being referred to as simply “The Duke” on his biography page.
The royal family also corrected another error pointed out by the outlet: Harry being the youngest son of the Prince of Wales. Harry’s father, King Charles III, used to be the Prince of Wales. However, the title now belongs to Harry’s brother, Prince William. Meaning that...

The first project that Netflix greenlit after inking a mega-deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, is finally coming.
More than two years after the streamer gave the go to “Heart of Invictus,” the docuseries will debut Aug. 30 on Netflix. The five-part doc will follow international competitors at the Invictus Games, an international sporting event that Prince Harry founded in 2014 for wounded, injured and sick servicemen and women.
“Our Invictus Games community represents some of the bravest and most dedicated individuals from 23 nations across the globe,” says Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, in a statement. “‘Heart of Invictus’ is the incredible story of competitors brought together through service, who are now united through sport. While in various stages of recovery from both visible and invisible injuries, these competitors and their loved ones give a compelling look at their journey to the Invictus Games, in...

The end was in sight for John Wayne when he took the part of aging gunfighter J.B. Books in Don Siegel's 1976 Western "The Shootist." He was only 69, but the quintessential American movie star hadn't been nice to his body. Decades of drinking and smoking had taken their toll. He'd lost a lung and a couple of ribs to cancer in the 1960s, but had evidently been in remission since. Still, his energy was flagging. He'd struggled throughout the filming of "Rooster Coburn," and was being asked to literally hop back on a horse in the elevated altitude of Carson City, Nevada. He had not been diagnosed with a return of the cancer that would kill him three years later, but The Duke looked a deathly shadow of his former, swaggering self.

In its initial opening weekend, "Creed III" genuinely knocked out box office expectations (and records), its competition, and prior "Rocky" first weekends all in one punch. This third franchise entry sees Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) confronted by his past in the form of childhood-friend-turned-enemy Damian "Dame" Anderson (Jonathan Majors). Following an early situation that left Dame locked up while Adonis got away, Dame reemerges after almost two decades' incarceration with dreams of restoring his once-promising early boxing career. It's yet another memorable performance from the electric Majors in bringing Dame to life, alongside Michael B. Jordan expanding the "Creed" universe as both filmmaker and star.
While "Creed III" certainly boasts great performances and stunningly executed fights, one of its greatest elements is the film's attention to detail, showcasing the filmmakers' love for and knowledge of the sport of boxing. Woven into Dame's arc, character, style, and fighting habits are...

(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)
There are few franchises as enduring and roundly beloved as "Rocky." Sylvester Stallone was a nobody actor who managed to pick himself up by his bootstraps and turn this story of a nobody boxer into a critical darling and box office smash, as well as an enduring piece of Americana. More than that, the perceived quality of this franchise, nearly 50 years after its inception and nine films in, is pretty damn impressive. But before "Creed" came along to revitalize the series for a new generation, it was "Rocky Balboa" that revived it and made the spin-off possible in the first place.

For nearly fifty years, the saga of Rocky Balboa has been one of the most enduring works of American fiction. The powerhouse first movie told the story of a boxing underdog who gets, and makes the most of, the chance of a lifetime, which dramatically paralleled the rags-to-riches story of the film's own writer and star, Sylvester Stallone, a no-name actor who built a blockbuster career out of "Rocky." It was practically legendary from the start, though its massive success was a double-edged sword.
Over the course of four sequels and a spin-off trilogy, Rocky Balboa proceeded to inspire generation after generation with satisfying stories about defying the odds, reclaiming your dignity, and that one time Rocky bought a robot. But there's one film in the series that most people, including Stallone, don't think was a success.
Actually, that's putting it far too mildly. Stallone has gone on record as...

It’s been nearly 50 years since a southpaw from Philly went the distance with Apollo Creed. Back then it was a genuinely euphoric moment in cinema, so feel-good that Rocky over-performed at the box office and Oscars, beating out flicks like Network and Taxi Driver for Best Picture, and making Sylvester Stallone one of the biggest movie stars of his generation. Yet even the most elated audiences could scarcely predict how long a tail Balboa’s left hook would have.
Forty-six years on, the legacy of Rocky and Apollo grows with nine films and counting, including six Rocky movies and three Creed films, the latter about Apollo’s son Adonis (Michael B. Jordan). And as time passed, many of the installments have become as synonymous with their eras as, well, Rocky is with the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Hence we here at Den of Geek have put...

Rocky Balboa (Stallone) recently retired, but his accountant landed him into some serious financial troubles. He makes the bold decision to mentor a younger boxer named Tommy (Tommy Morrison). Meanwhile, Rocky tries to improve his relationship with his son, Robert (Sage Stallone).

While Lady Whistledown is far from done dishing the dirt on the Ton, the show has lost two major characters since it first aired in December 2020. For the most part, Regé-Jean Page‘s exit didn’t have monumental repercussions on the show itself. His character, Simon Basset, or The Duke, pretty much didn’t need any more screen time. With his onscreen wife, Phoebe Dynevor bowing out of Bridgerton Season 3, it’s safe to say that a pattern has been established. If the show keeps bleeding characters, it may yield some adverse effects in the far future. In the meantime, the show

There isn't a more instantly identifiable movie location in the United States than Monument Valley. Situated at the Arizona-Utah border, the area provides a visually striking backdrop thanks to its series of buttes. John Ford made the valley famous via his groundbreaking Western "Stagecoach," and revisited it throughout his legendary career. Over the last 74 years, filmmakers as diverse as Stanley Kubrick, Sergio Leone, Harold Ramis, Steven Spielberg, and Michael Bay have dropped in on the ruggedly beautiful locale with everything from hominins, Chevy Chase, and Transformers. It's a cinematic sandbox every movie lover is desperate to visit. And we all have Ford to thank for this.
Or perhaps not.
One of Ford's other major discoveries was a monument of a man named John Wayne. The tall, swaggering Iowan seemed consigned to a career as a star of B-Westerns until Ford decided he was literally ready for his close-up in "Stagecoach.

It's rare to see John Wayne back down in a standoff, but that's exactly what happened when shooting one of his most revered films. By 1939, Wayne was no stranger to Westerns, though he wasn't yet a household name. Wayne had already appeared in a string of uncredited roles in films by the legendary director John Ford in the late '20s. So, when Ford made his triumphant return to the Western genre with "Stagecoach" he tapped Wayne for the lead character, Ringo Kid.
Casting Wayne was the first of a lengthy series of battles with United Artists. The studio wanted a big name for the film, but Ford had a feeling about the charismatic 32 year old and insisted on him for the role. Ford introduces viewers to Wayne in dramatic fashion, with a zoom-in on a rifle-wielding Ringo Kid in front of a gorgeous landscape of Monument Valley plateaus (where...

Barbara Walters was a renowned American broadcast journalist. She broke new ground (as well as old glass ceilings) by becoming the very first woman to co-host "Today" in 1974 and the very first woman to co-anchor "ABC Evening News" in 1976. Although by no means the full extent of her resume, Walters also produced and co-hosted "20/20," a news magazine, for ABC and created, produced, and hosted "The View," an ABC daytime talk show which kept her busy until her retirement in 2014. On December 30th, in the last few hours of 2022, Walters passed away at the age 93.
To her adoring viewership, Walters was perhaps best remembered for her many long form interviews with celebrities, politicians, and any persons of public interest. From presidents to performers, Walters sat down with them all for a few questions and some trademark gab. In 2014, the year of her retirement, ABC turned the interview spotlight upon Walters...

Has there ever been a franchise entry more of a cinematic buzzkill than "Rocky V?" I'm struggling to think of one. It's a dour affair compared to the goofy bombast of "Rocky IV" and is generally regarded as the worst film of the original series, but it does have some things going for it. Sylvester Stallone deserves credit for trying to do something different with this one, arresting the out-of-control trajectory of the first four movies by sending his most beloved character back to his roots. If he hadn't, the next logical step would have been for Rocky Balboa (Stallone) to face off against a terrifying alien warrior, but his arch-rival Arnold Schwarzenegger beat him to the punch on that one in "Predator."
Originally intended as the last part of the series, Stallone attempted to steer the Italian Stallion's saga back to the gritty drama of "Rocky." To that end,...

When someone makes the misguided assertion that John Wayne had no range or, worse, was actually a bad actor, you can be sure they've never seen "The Searchers," "Red River" or "True Grit." They most certainly haven't seen "She Wore a Red Ribbon," the conclusion to John Ford's "Cavalry Trilogy" which boasts what might very well be the finest performance of The Duke's career.
To be fair, Ford, Wayne's most trusted collaborator, wasn't entirely sold on Wayne's potential beyond his star power until he saw Howard Hawks' "Red River" in 1948. Upon seeing Hawks' Western, Ford reportedly exclaimed, "I didn't know the big son of a b**** could act." While it's worth noting that Ford had a penchant for razzing his frequent leading man, Wayne's portrayal of rancher Thomas Dunson is surprisingly shaded. Dunson is a hard, unyielding man at the outset, but an arduous cattle drive compounded by...

Clint Eastwood and John Wayne may be Western icons but they didn't exactly see eye-to-eye on the genre that made them both superstars. Back in the early '70s, B-movie maestro Larry Cohen wrote a screenplay called "The Hostiles," intended as a vehicle for both Wayne and Eastwood to co-star. It was an appropriate title; Wayne didn't want to be in a movie with the younger actor, writing a poison pen letter to Eastwood citing his hatred of "High Plains Drifter" as one of the reasons.
Cohen never fulfilled his dream of a film starring Wayne and Eastwood, and it is perhaps little surprise that the two legends didn't hit it off. They represented very different eras of the Western; Wayne was the old guard, an indomitable screen legend of Hollywood's Golden Age and star of dozens of straightforward good guys vs bad guys horse operas, a totem of a...

Henry Hathaway's "True Grit" went before cameras at a particularly fraught moment in United States history. Richard Nixon had been elected President by campaigning on a racially tinged "law and order" platform. The Vietnam War was still raging despite 39 approval from the American public, sparking massive protests in cities and on college campuses all over the country. This unrest was reflected in the pop culture of the period, particularly in film. The nation's youth were inspired by the maverick works of Dennis Hopper ("Easy Rider"), Robert Downey Sr. ("Putney Swope"), and George A. Romero ("Night of the Living Dead). They craved edginess and experimentation, and rejected the stodgy conservatism of John Wayne.
Hathaway was well aware of this contentious climate when he began shooting the slightly out-of-character Wayne Western. The 71-year-old filmmaker had worked with The Duke many times throughout his career, and didn't want anyone to rile his cantankerous star.

John Wayne was in perhaps the biggest creative rut of his career in 1969. He'd just made the worst film of his career outside of "The Conqueror" in "The Green Berets," and with the advent of the New Hollywood revolution, was growing culturally irrelevant. His best collaborators, John Ford and Howard Hawks, were either fully retired or on their way out. Wayne could keep making formulaic Westerns with the hacks who let him call the shots on set, but the returns would be ever diminishing. If he wanted to matter in the film industry again, he had to take a risk.
Charles Portis' novel "True Grit," about a young girl who hires an alcoholic U.S. Marshal to hunt down the men who killed her father, offered the 62-year-old Wayne the perfect opportunity to tweak his image. The lawman role of Rooster Cogburn would allow The Duke to show off his...

John Wayne had been working steadily in movies for over 30 years when principal photography wrapped on Howard Hawkes' "Rio Bravo" in 1958, and the miles were beginning to wear on the screen legend. At the age of 52, retirement was out of the question. He'd launched Batjac Productions only six years prior, and had his heart set on at long last bringing his labor of love, "The Alamo," to life.
If The Duke had his druthers, this is the moment in his career where he would've eased off on the gas a tad and began to experience more of life outside of a film set. In terms of box office success, he'd more than earned it. Why did he have to keep knocking out two or three movies a year like he still had something to prove?
There was a reason, and it's one that keeps many celebrities working their tails off well beyond their primes.

If the new Halloween movie wasn’t Halloween-y enough for you, well, you probably also hated this other “final” franchise film…
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
Director: Adam Marcus
Stars: Kane Hodder, Steven Williams, Erin Gray
Is There A Plot?
Despite already having a “Final Chapter” five movies earlier, Jason Voorhees is once again killed, allowing the residents of Crystal Lake to relax for the first time in a decade. But, of course, just because his body was destroyed, it doesn’t mean the hockey-masked murderer is done murdering.
What’S The Damage?
Similar to how some are saying Halloween Ends isn’t really a Halloweeen movie and complaining about Michael Myers’ noticeable absence, one could make the same claim about Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday, which barely counts as an entry in the franchise and also features a title killer who sits out the majority of his own film.

Ask people to describe John Wayne, and you're most likely to hear them talk about his larger-than-life swagger and taciturn nature. While it's wrong to say The Duke generally played himself in every film, he did adjust each character's dialogue and behavior to fit within his carefully crafted persona. Audiences filled theaters to see John Wayne be, to some recognizable degree, John Wayne, and he was a savvy enough entertainer to know that they didn't want to see him stretch (which he learned when he played Genghis Khan in the notorious stinker "The Conquerer").
Wayne was initially fine with this arrangement, but according to Scott Eyman's "John Wayne: The Life and Legend," as his career wore on, he began to grouse that he was "the hub of the wheel" around which an array of far more colorful characters spun for our enjoyment. Moviegoers might've loved his steadiness, but he...

All leading men are not created equal. This is especially true when it comes to playing a love scene. Clark Gable was a man of action; when he lavished his affections on a woman, he knew they would be reciprocated. Cary Grant's approach was more playful; he used banter as foreplay, and let the woman decide when to take their sparring to the bedroom.
And then there was John Wayne. He was trickier. The Western superstar was adored primarily for his unruffled nature. He was the toughest guy in every scene, and we never truly believed his opponent could lick him or outdraw him. Romance was, at best, a secondary concern for him, but when a woman had her mind set on wooing him, he didn't exactly shoo them away. He might've been stolid, but he wasn't made entirely out of stone.

There is a long history of boxing in cinema. Even before there were motion pictures, kinetoscopic recordings of boxing were distributed and shown among fans. Over the decades, the sport, with its larger-than-life personas, minimalistic iconography, and opportunity for primal violence became a staple of the cinema medium. There have been prestige boxing movies, and there have been empty-fun popcorn boxing movies.
A titan among these movies, of course, is the "Rocky" franchise. From its indie roots and its poignant underdog story to its over-the-top live-action anime sequels that defy all logic but still deliver thrills, laughs, and big emotions, there is no stopping this franchise. The franchise even comments on the real world, as with a focus on the latest technology and engineering the greatest boxer in Ivan Drago during "Rocky IV."
But as fun as those movies are, they are not really representative of the real world, either...

There is no more precarious moment in a movie star's career than the day they wake up, flush with box office success, and declare, "What I'd really like to do is direct!" Slightly less dangerous is a star's inclination to produce –- i.e., to diversify their career by generating material that reflects their taste or broadens their brand.
Two years after the end of World War II, John Wayne, who'd sat out the civilization-saving conflict while colleagues like James Stewart and Henry Fonda served, realized he was the biggest star in Hollywood and ought to start calling his own shots. Rather than direct, he found a quaint Western called "Angel and the Badman" written by James Edward Grant, in which a Quaker woman nurses a wounded gunfighter back to health. For an actor who'd made his name as a kickass, take-charge hero in Westerns and war movies, this was an oddly anti-violent movie.
