I do not know what happened in the first three Midge episodes of this series, but instead of it being "funny" kvetching, it was just kvetching! The proletariat scenes were simply irritating and the Abe and Rose downsizing annoying. Not just not funny, but grating!
Finally in episode 5, Midge and Susie are back! Smart, funny, timing back on track. Great soundtrack. Whew! Glad I hung in there a little longer.
I think Shy is more Johnny Mathis, but there is some Belafonte. Hopefully others will make it past the first three episodes.
Clearly Joel will step more center stage this season. I am sure it is not easy to come up with fresh material season to season, but please come up with something better for Abe and Rose so their characters do not sour on us. Shalhoub is a fabulous actor but his cluelessness was grating with the proletariat invasion and the reason for downsizing not believable. Standing up for one's rights (Rose) is one thing but being stupid about it is another.
Anyway, it's finally back! And now onto other episodes of the Mrs. Maisel I loved and admired, minus episodes 1-3! Hopefully the writers now keep up the smart writing that has been acted by top notch actors, who deserve good material and produce when the writing is good and the scenes are believable and funny!
End of my own kvetching! Now onto episode 6! The ship has finally righted itself!
