Two disturbed people with guns
bkoganbing18 May 2018
This Blue Bloods episode features two disturbed people with guns. One of them is a former collar of Donnie Wahlberg's who just got out of prison. Michael Madsen got out of the joint and did not find his girl friend or the son he never saw at the address where he left them. Of course with the logic of the criminal mind he blames Detective Danny Reagan for his problem. Detective Reagan changes his place with that of his partner Detective Curatola whom Madsen captured.

Wahlberg says Madsen is one of the most dangerous people he ever encountered and you go away from this episode a believer in that.

The second involves the shooting of an innocent party by Officer Corbin Bleu while involved with running down a fleeing felon.. Causing the death of an innocent man weighs heavily on his conscience.

This is certainly a different kind of role for the former Disney star, a lot more serious than was High School Musical. Bleu does very well with the part.

Nice performances all around by regulars and guest cast.

Not a real situation

Warning: Spoilers
OK first let me say I like Blue Bloods, even though I dislike the over the top religious content which I find intrusive but then it is an American production and most of them still think the Earth is only 6,000 years old. Sorry, I digress, a tense episode with Danny being held hostage by someone whose life he supposedly ruined by sending him to jail years before. Whilst I understand the plot line, it is very tense in places I couldn't take the bomb bit. I was OK with Jackie being handcuffed to the bomb but when Danny removes it to cuff to himself he had time, because Benjamin was not in sight line, to throw it into the river. OK sorry for being pedantic but had he been close by it would have worked. Otherwise a fab episode from this high quality series, I just had to say something.

3.1 Season Opener is ****

Tom Selleck proves his mettle here when a police officer accidentally shoots an innocent person to death on the street. While his statement is unpopular to the union and officers, Selleck knew it had to be done and then turns hero himself when the devastated officer contemplates suicide.

The episode is also terrific as Danny, shows his human emotion and that he is vulnerable just like everyone else in the world. He sheds his tough guy persona and turns in a wonderful performance as an officer threatened by a man he helped send to prison. The latter blames him for his estrangement from his wife and son and their subsequent deaths. How Danny handles the situation he is thrust into is memorable to see.

This show continues to be a great one and I expect that to continue during this new season.

Not so good

Warning: Spoilers
First off, this is one of the rare cop shows that are very good and treat police procedures well. That said, they do many things for reasons of Hollywood drama that would never happen in the real day of a police officer. For example perps pretty much going limp and allowing themselves to be cuffed, its never that easy but if they showed realistic cuffing it would take half the episode. The other thing is they have this habbit of being too nice and giving criminals more of a chance to surrender than in real life. I am pretty sure that is what we would ALL like to happen, but I bring it up because I usually let this stuff slide for the reasons I mentioned.

But this episode was too much. There were too many chances for Danny to stop Walker. First, since Danny was wired, the cops could have found Walker sitting in the cab. Danny could have also tossed the bomb into the River soon as he took it off his partner. If not then even at the end when he is digging his grave and the SWAT team arrives, they 'realistically' would have given Walker ONE second to drop the gun, he was actively threatening another with a firearm they would have shot him long before Danny had to hit him with a shovel.
