The characters in this film seem to be perpetually in pursuit of new beginnings. That is certainly true for the protagonist, Kira Young, a bestselling author who has just learned that her fiancé has been unfaithful.
Kira returns to her home town of Hidden Acres, where she renews her acquaintance with her high school sweetheart, Weston. At first, he is quite the gentleman. But it turns out that he is also looking for a new beginning because he has never gotten over his obsession for Kira.
The film was overly predictable with Weston's dark side becoming more and more threatening to Kira, whose fiancé, the movie star Tyson Harris, shows up on the scene in Hidden Acres. The inevitable "high noon" showdown comes where the major characters arrive in the same spot for the grand finale.
It was unfortunate that the two nicest characters, Randy and Avery, became collateral damage courtesy of Weston. In a long monologue, Weston could have almost been performing an operatic aria in recounting his past deeds, including sending Kira's ex-boyfriend Sean off a cliff, which led to Kira's bestselling novel "Love Lost."
The performances were excellent, especially the actress playing Kira. She certainly enjoyed her wine, which led to complications when Weston laced her drink with a roofie. One word of profanity actually crept into a Lifetime film at the end. But even that was not enough of a payoff to make "Old Flames Never Die" a compelling viewing experience.
