Containment (2016)

This show is not what it seems

Warning: Spoilers
I can understand why people say that they hate this show, it's completely understandable. I wasn't really too into it for the first few episodes but continued to watch out of boredom.

This show establishes your expectations and then subverts them. You expect it to play out in a certain way, you expect it to pander, you expect it to follow the formula of the whole guy gets the girl, there's a clear enemy thing. The pilot is not indicative of the whole show. If I had just watched the pilot I would have been left feeling mildly upset and mostly disappointed, but I didn't.

The show goes a lot more in depth into the motivations and lives of the characters than you think it will from the first few episodes. It deceived the audience into thinking that this is gonna be a black and white "the immigrants did it, black people are gangbangers, foreign powers are evil" kinda thing. That's not the case, it turns itself around, just keep watching. The bait and switch of the plot and focus has made this one of the most memorable disaster shows I've ever watched.

It's not perfect, some writing and acting could have been polished up, the situation is pretty unrealistic at times, but it was still worth the watch in my opinion.
