I just watched the entire season in 2 evenings. Is it a new idea? No. The oldest one on the same subject I can think of is "Outbreak" from 1995, and I'm sure there are plenty that go back further than that. Is it a well produced story? Yes, I think so. The character growth of Jake in particular is wonderfully done. Katie is the school teacher there with her kids on a field trip, and she gives Jake - a police officer - just the right amount of a wake-up slap when she says in her teacher voice "there are a bunch of 11 year olds who are handling this better than you!". There is even a death scene (in a show about a lot of death) that actually made me cry - I can't remember the last time I cried at a TV show. I haven't seen the shows that other reviewers are unfavourably comparing this to, but as a show to watch, I would recommend it.
