Damsel (2024)
Enjoyable fantasy flick with a cool dragon and kick ass heroine
You know what. I liked it. Was it a masterpiece? Nope not at all. But not every movie needs to be. Some days you just want to be entertained and this movie does the trick. Sure it was corny and predictable, but sometimes you want that in a film.
But it also held my attention for the entire run time - which is kinda impressive considering my short attention span (normally I'd be on my phone after the first 30mins or so).
Plus the dragon was brilliant. I loved everything about it. It's design and animation was cool and Shohreh Aghdashloo's voice was perfect fit for the dragon - Gravelly, but still matronly and feminine.
If you like female heroines kicking butt, dragons, fantasy and pretty special effects and just want some mindless entertainment - give it a try.
Zom 100: Zombie ni Naru made ni Shitai 100 no Koto (2023)
Brilliant first episode - 9stars just for that.
It's been a while since I watched an anime like this. One that didn't rely on standard anime tropes (you know... the same kinds of characters, saying the same kinds of things, telling you the story instead of showing etc... you know, bog standard anime stuff).
I've only watched the first episode so far and it's one of the best 1st anime episodes I've seen in a long time. The art style and animation is fantastic.
I Can't wait to watch the rest, but even if you only watch the first episode it's worth it for that alone (the first episode would work perfectly as a stand alone short story).
If more anime was like this I'd be a much bigger weeb than I am (I'm just a casual weeb atm).
Nimona (2023)
Equal parts hilarious and heartfelt
Omg. What an amazing movie. I watched this with my kids and all of us were entranced from the very beginning. We were almost constantly laughing out loud through the first half and all of us were tears by the end. My kids almost instantly demanded to watch Nimona 2 and were extremely disappointed to learn that the first movie had only just been released
The meme potential of this movie is near endless, (soooo much meme potential). Nimona is quite possibly one of the best animated movies in years. Watch it, keep an open heart and enjoy its beautiful message about accepting people for who and what they are.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Loving it! Amusing and heaps of fun!
This show is fantastic, I'm really enjoying it so far.
I was a little hesitant at first as the premise is a bit silly, but it does actually work (I mean, at least as much as anything in the MCU anyway).
It's kept me grinning and I usually laughed out loud several times each episode. The cameos are great - wong is always fun and I'm loving the addition of Madisynn and hope to see more of her in the future.
I'm at episode 4 so far and the show is a winner. It's smart and fun. The first 2 episodes were a tiny bit slow but had enough going for them to keep me interested and it just keeps getting better. The story is interesting and not too predictable, it kinda feels like a love action cartoon in style.
Ignore the haters - the show is worth a watch - it's not high art but it is certainly amusing and worth at least a solid 7 or 8 out of 10.
But I'm voting a 10 to try drown out the haters because even if you don't love it, no way is it worth a 1 - I get that the style isn't for everyone but a 5 is average people! 1 would be literally steaming dog poop - and that is not at all what this is at all!
Moon Knight (2022)
First few episodes were a little slow
I struggled with the first half of the first season. But the last 2 episodes were fantastic, worth the i it'll slog to get to, especially as a marvel fan.
Final Space (2018)
Come for the laughs, stay for the heart.
This show is amazing. It starts a bit silly(and honestly stays a bit silly), but I gave it a chance and I was literally in tears multiple times through the show.
I recommend it to almost anyone willing to give animated shows a chance - to anyone who likes a healthy dose of heart with their laughter.
An American Pickle (2020)
It's stupid fun, don't take it seriously.
There was a point while watching this movie my partner turned to me and said:
"wouldn't he have just died from some modern illness?"
Honestly if you are complaining about realism during a movie about a man surviving being brined like a pickle for 100years then maybe this movie isn't for you.
There were so many stupid little things in this move and every one made me laugh, which is kinda the beauty of a film like this - every inaccuracy just makes it more stupid... and I love it.
CNNNN: Chaser Non-Stop News Network (2002)
Classic Aussie Comedy
While many of the topics have aged a bit, if you have a general knowledge of the time you should still be able to understand it. And some of it still rings true today.
Eden (2021)
Sweet story, perfect to watch with the family
Besides the general message of "destroy all Humans" from Some of the robots - it's a fairly family friendly Movie (if a little sad), with only a few moments of peril. Might be better to watch with slightly older kids so They get more out of it though.
The story is heart warming, even if it is a little generic.
Miss Congeniality (2000)
Endlessly rewatchable comedy.
I end up watching this every few years or so and always enjoy it. It's a fun and effortless movie to watch. Plus Shatner is perfect in his role.
The Heat (2013)
Reasonably amusing cop movie
This movie does not deserve the hate it gets from the virgin neck beards voting it down.
Once again this isn't art, but it's perfectly watchable with a few amusing moments.
It's easily a 6/10 or 7/10 movie.
I've watched a lot worse cop movies with less hate staring male actors - suck it up snowflakes, women can star in above average action movies too you know!
Thunder Force (2021)
It's an average superhero movie
It's honestly not as bad as some of these reviews are making it out to be. It's certainly better than some other recent well known superhero movies *cough* justice league *cough*
It's not high art, some of the jokes are obvious and McCarthy carried the movie but it was entertaining enough to sit through.
