S.W.A.T. may have scored a last-minute renewal, but the long-running procedural is losing a familiar face ahead of Season 8.
Per Deadline, Rochelle Aytes is leaving the role of Nichelle Carmichael as a series regular.
The outlet teases that Aytes was not in contention to return as a series regular next season.
However, given Nichelle’s connection to Hondo (Shemar Moore), producers would like the fan-favorite to recur next season.
As soon as news emerged that Aytes was available, the actress was approached to join the cast of Watston, which will see her star opposite Morris Chestnut.
The series regular role on the new series could complicate a return to S.W.A.T., so Nichelle may be absent for an undetermined amount of time.
Aytes has been with S.W.A.T. for years
Aytes started on S.W.A.T. in a recurring capacity but was upped to series regular during its seventh season.

The end of Blue Bloods is almost upon us, but is it really the end of the beloved crime drama?
After S.W.A.T. was un-canceled earlier this year, Blue Bloods fans hoped there was a way forward for the long-running series.
Those hopes were dashed when the network confirmed last month that the back half of Blue Bloods Season 14 will 100% be the end for the show.
However, during Paramount’s annual stockholders meeting this week, we got our biggest indication that the franchise will not remain dormant for long.
According to TV Line, Paramount Global co-ceo Brian Robbins hinted a spinoff is in the works.
“In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods,” the exec said.
CBS tends to keep beloved franchises alive with spinoffs
Spinoffs of popular CBS series aren’t a groundbreaking concept, with NCIS: Origins, NCIS: Tony & Ziva, and Criminal Minds: Evolution being some recent efforts.

Exclusive: Rochelle Aytes is leaving S.W.A.T. as a series regular. In a quick turnaround, she has joined another CBS procedural, the upcoming medical drama Watson headlined by Morris Chestnut.
In a surprising move, CBS last month renewed S.W.A.T. for an eighth season having previously canceled the show after six seasons before reversing that decision to pick up a seventh and final season. As new deals had to be made with the cast, Aytes, who plays Nichelle Carmichael, was not invited back as a series regular but the producers want to keep her in the S.W.A.T. universe as Hondo’s (Moore) wife and mother to their child, and the hope is that she will recur next season.
In a classic “when one door closes” situation, shortly after Aytes became available, she was approached for a series regular role on Watson, which is produced by CBS Studios.

In recent years, Netflix has made a lot of changes to its standard operating procedures, and one that is becoming increasingly part of its release plans is breaking up series into blocks. The world’s largest streaming service will release the second half of “Bridgerton” Season 3 in June looking to capitalize on the success of the first four episodes that were released last month. Also coming to the streaming giant this month will be the final season of fantasy drama series “Sweet Tooth,” the Glen Powell-led action comedy “The Hitman” and much more.
Netflix offers three different subscription options, on the low end is the Standard With Ads option for just $6.99 per month. However, if you prefer your streaming without commercial interruptions, you can opt for the Standard plan for $15.49 monthly or the Premium option for $22.99.

The Bau is back in action, but one familiar member of the team is still Mia. Matthew Gray Gubler, who played Dr. Spencer Reid on Criminal Minds for 15 seasons, won’t appear in season 2 of Criminal Minds: Evolution, which premieres June 6 on Paramount+.

Criminal Minds wrapped up its decade-plus run on CBS in early 2020. But in 2022, the show was rebooted for a 16th season, dubbed Criminal Minds: Evolution. The 10-episode, streaming-only season featured the team – including David Rossi (Joe Mantegna), Emily Prentiss (Paget Brewster), and Penelope Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) – working a complex case involving a serial killer named Elias Voit (Zach Gilford).
While Criminal Minds: Evolution brought back most of the show’s core cast, a few familiar faces were missing.

Netflix’s list of new releases for June 2024 look suspiciously like last month’s.
That’s because the biggest item on the schedule is Bridgerton season 3 once again. The final four episodes of Bridgerton‘s third season will premiere on June 13. Polin fans everywhere, rejoice! Other TV items of note this month include the third and final season of Sweet Tooth (June 6), Worst Roommate Ever season 2 (June 26), and That ’90s Show Part 2 (June 28).
Bridgerton aside, Netflix’s original movie options this month might be even more impressive than the TV slate. Richard Linklater’s Hitman, which stars Glen Powell as the titular assassin, premieres on June 7. That will be followed by documentary Black Barbie on June 19, the Jessica Alba-starring Trigger Warning on June 21, and romcom A Family Affair on June 28
Here’s everything else coming to Netflix this month. Note that Netflix marks its international offerings with that respective country’s two-letter country code.

Despite being officially ditched around a month ago, NCIS: Hawai’i is still making headlines.
The show’s abrupt cancellation left everyone wondering what had actually led CBS to a decision to scrap a seemingly successful show with a fandom that is now more than ready to fight the network until it brings their favorite series back.
Fans’ numerous personal investigations proved that there could actually be a myriad of reasons, though just one of them remains the pivotal one, according to CBS representatives.
Though such an option seems to be very unlikely, NCIS: Hawai’i’s lovers still cherish a hope that the show will somehow repeat another CBS crime drama’s fate, but despite all the similarities, the circumstances are not that similar after all.

Despite the fact that everyone loves CBS' popular and extraordinarily long-running investigative procedural drama called NCIS, one can only be loyal to something for so long. And when the characters you have loved and rooted for for so many years leave the show, it can be hard to adjust to a new reality.
But even if you're the most diehard NCIS fan and can't imagine giving up the show, there's still a chance that there's something else out there that you might like even more than a 19-season show. To find out, check out these 5 shows that give off similar vibes.
1. Scorpion (2014-2018)
Well, there were a lot of different opinions about this show, but one thing is clear: it doesn’t matter how perfectly logical or complicated the storylines were, the audience still enjoyed the amazing characters doing their thing together.

We've all been there before.
You fall in love with a show. You fall in love with the characters. You fall in love with a Universe. And then, suddenly, without warning, your favorite show is canceled, and you feel a tremendous loss.
Television can be a comfort to many, and when you find that show or that perfect character that you connect with, it downright sucks to know you won't get to see them anymore.
Over the years, many shows have been cut short ahead of their time.
While others may have had a decent run, with years under their belt, the cancellation can still feel abrupt, especially when they don't get to end the series on their own terms.
We've seen fan campaigns change studios' minds and cancellations reversed at the last minute (S.W.A.T. says hi!), but unfortunately, most shows don't have that same luck.

CBS canceled a lot of popular shows this season. They canceled Blue Bloods, NCIS: Hawai’i, and CSI: Vegas. They also announced they will bring back S.W.A.T., but only for one more season. The reason the network execs gave was that they wanted to “freshen” things up and hope viewers would like the new shows replacing the beloved canceled series.
One way to do that is by adding in another franchise show, but this one will be very different from everything that came before. CSI: Miami is coming back in a new format.

Tom Selleck isn’t happy that CBS canceled Blue Bloods. He insisted the show was still a ratings juggernaut and the cancelation makes no sense. However, that might change if Selleck has his way. With the season finale coming up, Tom says he is “optimistic” about the show’s future, despite its cancelation.
Here is what Tom had to say about his show’s possible future.
Tom Selleck Optimistic About Blue Bloods Future
Despite CBS canceling it, Tom Selleck said he is not giving up hope in Blue Bloods’ return to television. Selleck plays patriarch Frank Reagan on the hit police procedural series. However, when CBS announced the show would end after Season 14, split into two parts, Selleck and other cast members were unhappy with the decision.
“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck said when asked about the show’s future on CBS Sunday Morning.

Blue Bloods fans shouldn’t count on CBS changing its mind about the future of the cop drama. Last fall, the network announced that the show would end after a two-part 14th season. Despite hints from the cast that they’d be happy to see the series continue, there’s little chance that the cancellation will be reversed, an exec recently said.
‘Blue Bloods’ will get ‘the sendoff it deserves’
CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach addressed the potential for Blue Bloods being un-canceled during a press conference on May 2.
“We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show,” she said, according to Deadline. “We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give the show the sendoff it deserves.”
However, unlike S.W.A.T., which got a surprise season 8 renewal after being canceled last fall, there’s no chance of an 11th-hour save for the Tom Selleck show.

September 2024 will mark 14 full years since Blue Bloods premiered on CBS, so long that it's hard to imagine television without the show. However, much to the shock of fans and cast alike, CBS has not renewed the show for at least one more season.
It was known that the end of the Reagan story was imminent when the cast and crew agreed to take pay cuts for the sake of a Season 14 renewal but given the network's recent decision to reverse its cancellation of S.W.A.T., the determination to end Blue Bloods as soon as possible is causing no small amount of regret and resentment.

While procedurals like Blue Bloods or S.W.A.T. have been one of the top highlights of the week on CBS for years, and NBC has had all sorts of projects within the One Chicago and Law & Order franchises, the procedural drama 9-1-1 was one of the most-watched shows on Fox from 2018 to 2023.
The show then moved to ABC (which is also owned by Disney) starting in March 2024, and for nearly two months now, 9-1-1 has been posting very impressive ratings in its new home, which secured the show's renewal for a new eighth season in early April.
The fact that the show is generating so much traction is not just because its creators are television colossi Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear. It's a fascinating drama that has viewers rooting for Los Angeles first responders as they navigate their personal and professional lives no less than the other aforementioned shows.
