When Netflix released its latest major data set on Thursday — its second under the name of What We Watched: A Netflix Engagement Report — animated features continued to demonstrate a major impact for the streamer. Of the top 100 most viewed titles in the period of review, from July to December 2023, 33 were animated, bringing in a total of 1,087,600,000 views.
That being said, titles licensed from other studios continued to heavily overshadow Netflix originals, in terms of impact. Of the 33 animated titles in the Top 100, five were produced by Netflix; the Adam Sandler starrer Leo ranked the highest at #3 overall, coming in with 96 million views. Others that made the cut included The Monkey King, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the Oscar-nominated Nimona, The Sea Beast and Back to the Outback.

“Seinfeld” fans got a shock last month when Michael Richards made a public appearance at the Hollywood premiere for Jerry Seinfeld’s Netflix movie “Unfrosted.” It was one of the rare times Richards has showed up on a major red carpet in nearly 18 years, as his career more or less ended in 2006 after he was recorded hurling the N-word and other racial insults at a group of hecklers during an infamous outburst while onstage at the Laugh Factory in Los Angeles.
Richards, who played Kramer on “Seinfeld” for nearly a decade and won three Emmys for his performance, is now returning to the spotlight due to the upcoming release of his memoir, “Entrances and Exits.” He recently told People magazine that “I’m not looking for a comeback” and stressed that he was “immediately sorry the moment” he said racial slurs onstage in November 2006.

Jerry Seinfeld’s Bee Movie was destined to be one of the most entertaining and hilarious films ever created. The film featured itself with an absurd and intriguing plot, and remains a top-notch product of Seinfeld’s humor, as he showcased his wit with clever wordplay. As a result, the animated film was loved by its young and old audiences.

To add to the film’s success, it became a never-ending meme factory. While the animated film was meant to be a family-friendly movie, it featured several erotic undertones when Barry B. Benson and Vanessa Bloome were shown together. Jerry Seinfeld realized his mistake, but but he was too proud with his work, hence, he decided to give a half-baked apology which might not resonate well with some of its viewers.

Despite many walking out on Jerry Seinfeld’s Duke Commencement Address, the stand-up comedian still delivered his speech and apologized for the “sexual undertones” in Bee Movie.
“I made a cartoon movie about bees you may have watched as a child,” he said. “If any of you felt slightly uncomfortable about the sexual undertones in the relationship between Barry the bee and Vanessa, the florist who saves his life, I would like to apologize for that now.”
Seinfeld continued, “I may not have calibrated that perfectly, but I would not change it.”

On July 5, 1989, NBC aired the first episode of Seinfeld, the legendary sitcom that ran for nine years and influenced television comedy and beyond.
The pilot, in which Jerry Seinfeld tried to find out if a girl he knew liked him or not, made a disgusting impression on NBC executives. Somehow the creators of the show managed to get permission to shoot four more episodes (the first season turned out to be very short). At the same time, some of the mistakes were fixed: from the second episode, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, known from Saturday Night Live, joined the main cast in the role of Seinfeld's ex. And the rest is history.
Jerry Seinfeld was not particularly eager to return to the screen – over the past 25 years, he has made a few stand-up routines, played himself in sitcoms, and voiced an annoying bee in Bee Movie. So it's surprising that the comedian would...

Ryan Gosling has built quite a career for himself over the years, starring in both serious dramas and silly comedies. A child actor turned adult star, Gosling got some of the best reviews of his career last year playing Ken in "Barbie," which resulted in his show-stopping performance of "I'm Just Ken" at the Oscars. Now, he's ready to return to the big screen in the action-comedy "The Fall Guy" (you can read our review of the picture right here).
When you've been working as long as Gosling has, you're bound to have some misfires. You can't hit a home run every time, as the saying goes. So is there anything in Gosling's career he regrets? A role he wishes he hadn't taken? Or how about something he'd like to do over? The Wall Street Journal asked Gosling that very question, specifically, "What's the one role you'd like to do over?...

With a career spanning four decades, Jerry Seinfeld leads the cast of his 2024-directed comedy Unfrosted. Although not his film debut, it is the first time Seinfeld would have a leading role in a live-action movie. Before Unfrosted, Jerry Seinfeld has only had cameo appearances on the big screen and a voice role as Barry B. Benson in the 2007 animated comedy Bee Movie. Jerry Seinfeld has had a successful career as a stand-up comedian, actor, writer, and producer. As a comedian, Seinfeld is known for his observational comedy, deadpan jokes, satire, and clean comedy. Jerry Seinfeld is having an odd time lately.
Fans and critics really enjoyed his appearance in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm series finale — which creator Larry David used to both comment on, and improve upon, the much-maligned Seinfeld closer. But this week, the 70-year-old comedy legend was slammed on social media for a recent interview where he declared “the extreme left” has hurt the comedy industry. Now here comes his new Netflix movie which is getting a sharply divided reaction from critics and overall a pretty low average score.
Seinfeld’s Unfrosted (trailer below) is a zany star-filled comedy that tells the story of rival cereal companies, Kellogg’s and Post, “racing to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast forever”— Pop-Tarts. Seinfeld stars in, co-wrote and directed the film, which also stars Melissa McCarthy, Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Amy Schumer, Max Greenfield, Christian Slater, Sarah Cooper and Bill Burr.

Plot: Michigan, 1963. Kellogg’s and Post, sworn cereal rivals, race to create a pastry that will change the face of breakfast. A tale of ambition, betrayal, sugar, and menacing milkmen, Unfrosted stars Jerry Seinfeld in his directorial debut.
Review: It took nine years after the series finale of Seinfeld for Jerry Seinfeld’s big screen debut, Bee Movie. That surreal, animated adventure was a spot-on continuation of the stand-up comedian’s brand of observational humor told within the context of a strangely specific world. Unfrosted, which reunited Seinfeld with his team of writers from Bee Movie, is another glimpse into a surreal world that allows him to explore his distinct type of comedy with an all-star cast of talent playing real and fictional characters. Boasting glossy, retro visuals and capitalizing on Seinfeld’s well-known love of breakfast, Unfrosted looks like it was fun to make. I only wish it was as much fun to watch.

The history of how the all-American breakfast snack was created is served up with lashings of goofiness in this comedy caper
Standup veteran Jerry Seinfeld makes his directing debut with this decent family comedy that puts a surreal twist on the history of Pop-Tarts, one of the US’s most beloved snacks: the sheer goofiness and disposable pointlessness are entertaining.
Seinfeld created the film with co-writers Spike Feresten, Andy Robin and Barry Marder, the same writing team that worked on Bee Movie, the animation that Seinfeld starred in, produced and co-wrote in 2007. Unfrosted doesn’t quite have the flair of Bee Movie, but there’s a steady stream of excellent gags, creating a rising crescendo of silliness similar in effect to Seinfeld’s own distinctive falsetto-hysterical declamation at the moment of ultimate joke-awareness. There are also nice supporting roles and cameos, including an extraordinary dual walk-on from Jon Hamm and John Slattery,...

If you appreciated Barbie’s eye-popping zaniness but its virtuous speechifying set your teeth on edge, have I got a sugary treat for you. And by “sugary,” I mean empty calories, not saccharine sentimentality. Gleefully silly — this is, after all, the directing debut of TV’s master of the domain of nothing — Unfrosted takes the origin-story template, wrings it dry of emotion, mixes basic facts with goofy fiction and serves up a bit of toasted history about the search for a “fruit-filled pastry dingus,” the 20th century creation we now know as the Pop-Tart.
Teaming again with his Bee Movie screenwriting collaborators, but this time without the strained punning and belabored narrative mechanics, Jerry Seinfeld has lured a cast of thousands to play characters both real and invented, often a hybrid of the two, in a straight-up comedy — no therapeutic underpinnings or civic lessons — that’s funniest when it isn’t trying too hard.

For years various producers have pitched doing something like a zany It’s A Mad Mad Mad Mad World, only populated by an epic cast of contemporary comedy stars just like that Stanley Kramer supercomedy did during its time in 1963. So it is probably not a coincidence that Jerry Seinfeld selected that very year in which to set his live action filmmaking debut, Unfrosted, as a quadruple threat of star, director, co-writer, producer.
Placing it in Battle Creek, Michigan and taking the real life story of the rivalry of cereal kingpins Kellogg’s and Post in their race to create a revolutionary breakfast pastry, Seinfeld and his longtime writing partner Spike Feresten, along with their Bee Movie collaborators Andy Rubin & Barry Marder, have chosen to use some real life people, made up several others, salted it all with some basic truths, and basically let the laughs and comedy lead the way in the telling.

It’s funny that both of Jerry Seinfeld’s movies have been pegged to such high-concept premises, as the sitcom legend famously built his brand with a show about nothing. In fact, that might be the funniest thing about them. First came 2007’s deeply strange “Bee Movie,” in which Seinfeld — who produced, starred in, and co-wrote the project — voiced a honeybee who starts getting hot for a human florist. Now comes Seinfeld’s directorial debut, a sketchy and surreal business parody that re-imagines the rush to invent the Pop-Tart as if the rivalry between Post and Kellogg’s were as crucial to the future of western civilization as the Space Race or the Manhattan Project.
It’s the perfect streaming comedy for anyone who felt that “Oppenheimer” had too many laughs.

It was famed screenwriter William Goldman who once said of the movie industry, “Nobody knows anything.” And that could very well be true, with Jerry Seinfeld now agreeing that Hollywood is as clueless as many people think.
Jerry Seinfeld has seldom taken part in any movies, with his only real role outside of documentaries being the highly meme-able Bee Movie. But with Unfrosted dropping on May 3rd, he has noticed a few things he wouldn’t have otherwise. “It was totally new to me. I thought I had done some cool stuff, but it was nothing like the way these people work. They’re so dead serious! They don’t have any idea that the movie business is over. They have no idea.” So what’s the deal with Hollywood? Seinfeld elaborated on this, saying the business and the consumption of films is nowhere near what it was in generations past.

Back in the ’90s and even now, Jerry Seinfeld is widely regarded as one of the most talented stars in the comedy genre, especially because of his superhit iconic series named after his surname. But as much as he was in love with this genre and fans were in love with his show, the finale of his fan-favorite series was inevitably botched and thoroughly hated by fans for many years that followed.

That being said, his own saga’s finale was obviously not one that he considered to be the best, and he was even slightly bothered by it, even decades later. But other than that, the one series finale that the 69-year-old comedian actually considers the greatest of all television shows was none other than the seven-season drama series from the late 2000s, Mad Men.

Comedian and television star Jerry Seinfeld spoke with GQ in anticipation of the release of his upcoming Netflix movie “Unfrosted,” a look at the invention of Pop-Tarts. The 69-year-old Emmy-winner and Grammy-nominee is the director, co-writer, and co-producer as well as star of the project and, surprisingly, this is the first feature film with him in the driver’s seat as the creative force, unless you count “Bee Movie.”
“They’re so dead serious!” he said about people working in film production. Then he added a little zing: “They don’t have any idea that the movie business is over. They have no idea.”
The man behind “Seinfeld” and “Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee” and perennial touring comic elaborated, “Film doesn’t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives. When a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it.

Jerry Seinfeld is the man. Known for being one of the greatest comedians of an entire generation, he has carved out quite a reputation for himself in the industry. His antics and comic timing have made him iconic, but that isn’t the only thing that makes him a comedian who is in his own league. The star of Seinfeld might be one of the most highly-rated comedians out there, but he doesn’t give a f**k about what others will think of him for saying a particular thing.

Not a single person asked for this, but we're getting it anyway. You likely never wondered about the intense brand rivalry between Kellogg's and Post that went into the invention of Pop-Tarts -- and, honestly, why would you? -- but the real-life drama behind the breakfast staple proved too much to resist, apparently. In a world where we can get an Oscar-winning drama about Facebook from one of our greatest living directors, a weirdly watchable biopic on the guy behind McDonald's starring Batman, and most recently Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's "Moneyball"-like deep-dive into Nike's Air Jordan sneakers, why the heck wouldn't we get a movie all about the process behind how breakfast was reinvented forever?

The race to change the breakfast game with the invention of the Pop-Tart is heating up in the trailer for Jerry Seinfeld’s Netflix comedy Unfrosted.
Seinfeld marks his directorial feature debut with the film that hits the streaming service May 3. A-list actors taking on vocal work for animated films has always been an uneven trend, with the results ranging from genuine greatness to utter tedium. But while many actors who lend their voices to Pixar or DreamWorks releases often seem to just be in it for the easy paycheck, the same can’t be said of Jack Black, who seems physically incapable of not giving 100 percent in any film. As the villainous Bowser, he was the saving grace of the otherwise forgettable “Super Mario Bros. Movie,” delivering hammy line readings that chewed up and spit out that computer-generated, Nintendo-focused-grouped scenery.

The two big original releases on Netflix this month are Spaceman and 3 Body Problem. In Spaceman, Adam Sandler plays an astronaut alone and far from home who desperately wants to fix things with his wife. When he discovers an enormous alien spider in the bowels of his ship, a conversation between the two gets underway, and Sandler has a chance to make some big changes. To be clear: this is not a comedy!

It seems that every decade of the 21st century comes with its own animated film phenomenon about the importance of bee preservation. The 2000s had sincere viewings of “Bee Movie.” The 2010s had ironic viewings of “Bee Movie.” And perhaps when we look back on the 2020s, “10 Lives” will fill a similar role — though it’s considerably less likely to be uploaded on PornHub like its Jerry Seinfeld-led predecessor.
Though the marketing for Chris Jenkins’ new independently financed animated film is dominated by feline imagery, bees and their essential role in our ecosystem provide the true animal heart of the movie. But if those aren’t your thing, there’s enough anthropomorphic cats, horses, fish, rats, cockroaches, and countless other animals on hand to keep viewers of all ages entertained.
There are few better gigs in this world than being a spoiled pet onto which an owner projects their neglected parental instincts.

This week, the top title for at-home viewing is all a matter of perspective. New releases “Elemental” (Disney) and “No Hard Feelings” (Sony) took the top position at Vudu and iTunes, respectively, while last week’s unanimous #1 “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (Sony) kept the lead spot at GooglePlay. With “The Pope’s Exorcist” now #1 at Netflix, Sony topped three out of four lists.
Expect more changes to come: “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (Paramount) reportedly debuts August 29 and unconfirmed reports have the PVOD of “Barbie” (Warner Bros.) as soon as September 5.
It’s notable that “Elemental” doesn’t dominate. The Pixar film sustained a better-than-anticipated theatrical run of $151 million domestic — five times its opening weekend — and $458 million worldwide. But with a reported $200 million production cost before marketing, it needs a very strong post-theatrical response that starts with PVOD.
Both “Elemental” and “No Hard Feelings” debuted as $19.99 sale titles rather than 72-hour rentals.

It’s not unusual for films to see a boost when they shift from PVOD rental to Est. But “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” (Sony), which had dropped off the top 10 charts after several weeks of rental success, came back as #1 on all three now that it’s available to buy at $19.99.
“Barbie” has surpassed the Marvel animated title as #1 for the summer, but the renewed interest in “Spider-Verse” is a good reminder of how strong the brand can be.
In another sign of how comic book movies elevate those associated with them, “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot’s Netflix action title “Heart of Stone” hit #1 right away at the streamer. It received a lot of review attention, mostly negative. Its value will be better determined depending on if it sustains a lengthy run high on their charts.

HBO’s Ballers, the docuseries Depp v. Heard, the Adam Sandler-produced You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah and interactive rom-com Choose Love are among the new projects debuting on Netflix in August.
After adding all five seasons of Insecure last month, in the first time an HBO original series was available on Netflix in the U.S., Netflix is adding yet another HBO title on Aug. 15: the Dwayne Johnson-fronted Ballers.
The streamer is also set to add HBO series Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Six Feet Under at a future date, due to a co-exclusive deal with Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max.

With its list of new releases for August 2023, Netflix is giving the anime world another shot.
No, we’re not talking about the streamer’s usual anime offerings – which are present this month in the form of Ragnarok season 3 (Aug. 24) and other titles – we’re talking about Netflix’s attempt to make live-action anime adaptations a thing. Following the relative failure of its Cowboy Bebop remake, Netflix is giving it another go, this time with arguably an even bigger anime classic. One Piece will premiere on Aug. 31. Telling the story of beloved straw hat wearing pirate Monkey D. Luffy, this adaptation will attempt to do original creator Eiichiro Oda and his many fans proud.

Jerry Seinfeld lent his voice to the animated feature Bee Movie, which he had a hand in developing. But to get comedian Chris Rock on board the feature, Seinfeld told him that a filmmaking legend would be a part of the project.

Bee Movie was a Seinfeld flick that featured a heavy ensemble cast. In addition to Rock, the film’s roster was rounded out by Renee Zellweger, Oprah Winfrey, Matthew Broderick, among others. Being the producer of the film, Seinfeld confided that he had a hand in everything about Bee Movie. Including the cast.
“I fell in love with the whole thing. I got into the architecture of the buildings, and the colors that we should use; and I just got into it,” Seinfeld once said according to Black Film.

Chris Rock called the police on Sunday evening when he saw someone filming him while he was inside his apartment in New York City.
The man did not attempt to break into Rock’s house, and it seems that he was only trying to film him from the fire escape.
The NYPD did not confirm the victim’s identity, but they did say that he was a 58-year-old man.
When the police arrived at Rock’s apartment, the perpetrator had already fled the scene. There have been reports of people who saw the man jump down from the fire escape and get into a Mercedes. He was wearing pink Crocs and a dark-colored jacket.
>Celebrity Mugshots – Famous People At Their Lowest
No arrests have been made so far and the investigation is currently ongoing.
Rock has starred in numerous TV shows and movies including Everybody Hates Chris, Grownups, Madagascar, Bee Movie and Spiral.

The "How to Train Your Dragon" franchise is one of the biggest success stories for Universal and DreamWorks Animation, so it should come as no surprise that the beloved film will be the first from the company to get a live-action remake. Dragons have consistently been presented as dangerous beasts that need to be slain by heroes in much of our storytelling but in more recent years, dragons have been presented as misunderstood creatures deserving of affection, dedicated companions, and even friends. While Daenerys Targaryen of "Game of Thrones" certainly helped the PR for dragons across the globe, credit must be given to Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III and his dragon bestie Toothless.
What makes the "How to Train Your Dragon" films so wonderful is the sweet, empathetic approach to storytelling at the heart of each installment, giving the films a timeless feel that can be appreciated by viewers of all ages.

In the 1990s, Seinfeld was to television what The Beatles were to music in the 1960s. The hilarious sitcom dominated the ratings, which is why many were shocked when the series ended after its ninth season. The series was still the number one comedy in America, but Jerry Seinfeld decided it was time to say goodbye, and he said The Beatles influenced his decision.

Nearly one year after Ray Liotta’s unexpected death in the Dominican Republic, his cause of death has been released.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, the 67-year-old actor died from heart and respiratory issues. Specific causes of death list pulmonary edema — fluid in the lungs, respiratory insufficiency and acute heart failure. The report also noted atherosclerosis, a buildup of fats, cholesterol and other substances in and on the artery walls, as an underlying issue.
Liotta, best known for “Goodfellas,” “Cop Land” and “Narc,” died in his sleep last May in the Dominican Republic while shooting “Dangerous Waters”. The actor had recently starred as twin brothers in the “Sopranos” prequel “The Many Saints of Newark” while appearing in Steven Soderbergh’s “No Sudden Move.” He had recently appeared in Elizabeth Banks’ “Cocaine Bear,” which debuted this past February and earned decent reviews and $89.2 million worldwide.

A video meme Twitter account has used the site’s Twitter Blue video feature to upload the Illumination film “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” in its entirety, where it was seen by millions of users before being taken down.
The movie, which was posted on Saturday evening in two parts by a page with 1.1 million followers titled “vids that go hard,” stayed online for at least seven hours before being taken down by Twitter moderators. Forbes reports that the video was watched at least 9 million times.
The leak was possible thanks to a feature available exclusively to Twitter Blue subscribers that allows them to upload high quality videos of up to one hour in length. On Sunday morning, after the video was taken down, the owner of the account responded by posting the DreamWorks animated film “Bee Movie” in the same two-part format. That, too, was taken down.

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.

We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.

When “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” director Joel Crawford was 5 years old, a wall fell on him.
He describes himself as a “hyper kid” and, at the time of the accident, he was scaling a crumbly outdoor cinderblock wall at his grandmother’s house. When it toppled over, he landed far enough back that he wasn’t seriously injured, although two of his toes had to be partially amputated. Crawford, a young boy so full of energy that he tried to climb a wall and was nearly crushed, was forced to spend time in a hospital bed. His grandmother brought him a ream of old copy paper and Crawford started drawing.
One day Crawford’s mom left to get lunch. When she came back, the nurses and doctors were huddled around Crawford’s bed. His mom was panic-stricken – did something happen? Had he gotten worse? But no. The medical staff was watching Crawford draw.

We’ve all seen the hackneyed, poorly CG-ed, primetime Asylum special on Syfy version of Stung too many times before. Director Benni Diez, every producer, and each department head go the extra mile to avoid such a fate for their 80s throwback creature feature. That’s what’s so endearing about a 2015 “When Insects Attack” flick with gigantic ideas and the right approach, rooted in buzzworthy practical effects. Stung would play gangbusters along with other abominations of nature like Zombeavers or Eight Legged Freaks (for different reasons), also classics like Them! or Mosquito, and deserves reappraisal for standing out from the swarm.
Screenwriter Adam Aresty hatched the idea while working on an actual catering gig with a wasp problem, which he morphed into the gonzo invasion that takes place. Julia (Jessica Cook) runs a catering company hired for an annual New York garden party hosted by newly widowed Mrs. Perch...
