On paper, Presumed Innocent might sound like your standard courtroom thriller… but there’s no one you’d rather have writing one of those than David E. Kelley. The man has been cranking out quality TV legal dramas since the days of L.A. Law, and the mind behind Ally McBeal and The Practice delivers once again as writer and showrunner of this new Apple TV+ series, premiering this Wednesday. (I’ve seen seven of the eight episodes.) Kelley takes a familiar premise — one that’s quite similar to Paramount+’s far inferior Fatal Attraction remake, in fact — and spins it into a sturdy,...

Having Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn as your parents might sound like a dream to some, and Wyatt Russell certainly loves his folks, but acting with them has always been something he’s been hesitant to do — especially once his dad’s return to the screen coincided with his own rise. Sure, he played a younger version of his Kurt’s character in the 1998 sci-fi thriller “Soldier,” but doing the same for the Apple TV+ television adventure series “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” involved an entirely different level of commitment. In the show, they play a rough, but reliable U.S. Army Colonel at two contrasting points in his life, yet in both time periods, he’s similarly tasked with facing down the Titans who threaten to destroy the world. In creating this dichotomy, Kurt and Wyatt didn’t really feel the need to prepare together, but in a recent interview with Variety,...

In Lulu Wang’s “Expats,” Sarayu Blue’s Hilary is seemingly perfect, put together and polished.
On the surface, the American expat Hilary presents herself as a control freak. From her surroundings to her makeup and neutral wardrobe, it’s all pristine. That facade slowly unravels as her layers are peeled back in the Prime Video six-part limited series. Behind closed doors, her marriage is falling apart, and her husband is cheating on her.
Costume designer Malgosia Turzanska used “aggressive neutrals” when it came to building Hilary’s wardrobe. Her goal was to use costumes as camouflage and protective armor for the character.

Love Is Blind is merely a TV show about TV relationships. Showtime’s Couples Therapy, however, is one big psychoanalysis session bursting with real vulnerability that’ll make you want to ditch your golden goblets forever.
Netflix’s social experiment sets up singles in adjoined rooms — called pods — in hopes that they might fall in love without the distraction of physical appearance, and ultimately forces couples to walk down the aisle where they’ll either say “I do,” or walk away from each other forever. But the series gets bogged down by pretend people and exchanges completely devoid of flirtation,...

“I don’t know if an artist I commission is using generative AI. I didn’treally care before, but I guess I have to care now,” said Lori McCreary,...

While numerous leading women representing scientists, technicians, engineers and mathematicians (Stem) have graced the screen throughout cinematic history, those pale in comparison to their male counterparts. Netflix’s “3 Body Problem” challenged this gender disparity and came out on top, dominating the charts for weeks.
According to Luminate, “3 Body Problem” has more than 3 billion minutes watched since its March release and spent seven weeks in Netflix’s Global Top 10. While the show features successful women in Stem, it’s worth noting Liu Cixin’s book, “The Three-Body Problem,” did not originally include strong female scientists like Jin Cheng (Jess Hong...

Opa! Season 9 of Below Deck Mediterranean has boarded a new crew under Captain Sandy Yawn. She’ll be navigating the 180-foot M/Y Mustique around the ancient and picturesque paradise Greece has to offer. Yawn welcomes Aesha Scott back as chief stew. She started her career on the Med in 2019, appearing in Seasons 4 and 5. Yawn once again has to not only navigate the vessel but also the dynamics of the crew, and at times, guests. Rounding out the team is stew and alum Elena Deubaich, stew Bri Muller, chef Johnathan Shillingford, bosun Iain Maclean, and deckhands Joe Bradley, Nathan Gallager, and Gael Cameron. Outside work, cameras also captured a relationship milestone as Yawn popped the question to her now-wife Leah. Here the cap catches us up on married life and what’s to come over the course of another drama-filled series of charters at sea. Congratulations on the recent nuptials.

“Loot” and “Pose” star Michaela Jaé Rodriguez says while growing up, the Logo dramedy series “Noah’s Arc,” which followed the lives and relationships of four gay men in Los Angeles, was one of the first shows she saw that made her feel represented.
“There were so many people of color on that show,” Rodriguez told Variety. “They did highlight a lot of trans women. It wasn’t as prominent, but the girls were there. I saw a whole encompassing story around all of the Lgbtqia+ community in that show and it resonated with me, it still resonates with me today.

Max has done it again. The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer has canceled another one of their masterful, underappreciated shows, this time the enthralling, cross-cultural crime period piece “Tokyo Vice.” The news was announced at the PGA’s Produced By conference by the show’s creator and executive producer J.T. Rogers and executive producer and director Alan Poul during a panel with Max original programming chief, Sarah Aubrey.
Despite the series’ short run, the panelists indicated that this was a mutual decision.
“We’re grateful not only to Max, but to our partners Fifth Season, who sold the show around the world, and made it a global success story,” Rogers and Poul wrote in join statement shared by Variety. “They were in the trenches with us always, guaranteeing that we could make the show we wanted to make. The response from both the press and from fans, in particular to Season 2, has been overwhelming.

Warning: The following post contains discussions of domestic abuse. Jana Kramer related to her role in Gaslit By My Husband: The Morgan Metzer Story on a deeply personal level. As a survivor of domestic abuse, Kramer knew how important it was for this real-life story to be told in her latest Lifetime movie, premiering June 9. “There’s so many people out there that need their voices to be heard. I wanted to be a conduit of freedom for those voices,” she told TV Insider. Kramer, who also executive produced the film, was able to speak to Morgan Metzer, whose relationship with ex-husband Rodney Metzer inspired the film. Morgan was beaten and sexually assaulted by a masked man in 2021. That man turned out to be her former husband, who initially pretended to come to her rescue after the attack. Rodney pled guilty to kidnapping and aggravated assault charges. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

The Bau is in the last position any of these agents want to be in on Criminal Minds: Evolution this season: having to rely on serial killer Elias Voit (Zach Gilford) for what he says he knows about their current UnSub, known as Gold Star. But they must speak with him, and try to figure out how much he says is true. The hope? Maybe one of the members of the team can get him to slip up. They’ll have ample opportunities. Below, the cast and showrunner Erica Messer share some teases about what’s coming up with that and more as Season 17 continues. The Bau vs. Voit With the team having to use Voit, so far, as the second episode showed, they’ve been going to see him one at a time. Prentiss (Paget Brewster) will get some on-on-one time with him as well, according to Messer, ...

Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ career has been defined by Hall of Fame sitcom roles in “Seinfeld” and “Veep” (not to mention her Emmy-winning turn in “The New Adventures of Old Christine”). But in her years since dominating the small screen, she’s gravitated toward a diverse array of film projects.
