"The greatest, bravest teenage brothers are forced to fight solo." Paramount+ has launched the full official trailer for the animated spin-off series titled Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, debuting in August later this summer. This is a continuation of the massively successful animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem from last year, one of my favorites as well. Set after the events of the 2023 movie, the Turtles arrive on the streets of New York, where they are faced with new threats & team up with old allies, to navigate through teenage life. They end up fighting a villain known as "Bishop" and her robot henchmen trying to get rid of mutants. The trailer sets up the "they must fight on their own" concept quite well. Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon reprise their roles from the film as the Turtles, alongside Ayo Edebiri reprising her role as April O'Neil.

Welcome to Emmy Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Emmy race — via Slack, of course. This week, we revisit comedy, which has some open slots in every category.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! We’re back to type about the Emmys comedy race, which means you can expect a whole lot of “Hacks” here at the start since we’re both certified members of its stan club. At least anecdotally, the show’s momentum continues to build after its incredible Season 3 finale — so much so that at least one half-baked hot take about how “Hacks” isn’t a “good comedy” was published this week. I’m here for all the “Hacks” attention, and I remain convinced it can win Hannah Einbinder her deserved Emmy plus perhaps bring another writing award to the shelves of Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs and Jen Statsky.

No one needs to tell Abby Elliott that she’s hit the jackpot in getting to portray Natalie Berzatto, better known as Sugar – the big sister of restaurant boss Carmy (Jeremy Allen White) – on the multiple Emmy-winning FX hit “The Bear.” “I mean, it’s a dream job and everyone is so fantastic,” Elliott says. “All of the actors are just incredible, and to be able to work alongside them and with them, it’s just the best…I feel so challenged creatively in this environment. This just feels like what I want to be doing. I really love being able to get to do this work.” She’s also grateful and a bit blown away by the impact the show is having on its audience, who can’t wait for the series to drop its third season June 27 on Hulu. “I get people coming up to me saying, ‘I...

Pixar has been one of the premiere names in animation ever since the first "Toy Story" released in 1995, changing the game forever. Disney's beloved animation company was also one of the true Hollywood box office titans, with pretty much everything Pixar touched turning to gold, though "The Good Dinosaur" serves as a rare exception to the rule. Unfortunately, the pandemic changed all of that, and Pixar has had a rough time recovering, with "Lightyear" bombing badly after several of the studio's originals went straight to Disney+. "Inside Out 2" aims to change the narrative next weekend and bring the studio back to its dominant place at the top of the box office charts.
Director Kelsey Mann's sequel is currently eyeing an opening weekend in the $75 to $94 million range, per Box Office Theory. Even on the low end, that would be an exceptional start for the film. Nine years ago,...

The summer movie kickoff has been a little bumpy, but the staff at IMDb have their sights set on several highly anticipated movies and shows coming out in June.
See IMDb’s June Picks
If you need something light and fun for the weekend, check out Glen Powell and Adria Arjona in ‘Hit Man’ on Netflix. Based on the true story of part-time undercover investigator Gary Johnson, director Richard Linklater's crime comedy finds Powell moonlighting as a fake hit man who starts to fall for a woman who enlists his services.
Those looking for thrills and chills can head to the theater, where Will Smith and Martin Lawrence go undercover in ‘Bad Boys: Ride or Die,’ and Dakota Fanning finds herself trapped with a bunch of strangers under spooky circumstances in the directorial debut of M. Night Shyamalan's daughter, Ishana Night Shyamalan.
The rest of June will keep many fans busy with new episodes of three Emmy-winning series: Season 4 of “The Boys” (6/13) on Prime Video, Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” (6/16) on Max, and Season 3 of “The Bear” (6/27) on Hulu.
There’s not a ton on the menu for families, but ‘Inside Out 2’ is expected to be one of 2024’s box office bright spots. The Pixar sequel brings back Riley’s original emotions and adds Maya Hawke (“Stranger Things”) as Anxiety and Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear’) as Ennui.
Take a look at all the staff picks for the month in our guide, where you can watch trailers, read more about what’s coming, and add movies and shows to your Watchlist....

With the unofficial beginning of summer — Memorial Day — come and gone, the season has entered full swing. Several of the summer weekends will be crowded at the box office with sometimes three releases competing on similar dates. With action films like Bad Boys: Ride Or Die, A Quiet Place: Day One and Twisters taking us through July, some animated adventures like Inside Out 2 and Despicable Me 4 will provide fun for whole families.
Deadpool 3 will cap off July with a new Marvel installment from Shawn Levy, Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, making way for more sinister films ahead of fall like M. Night Shyamalan’s Trap and Alien: Romulus. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice deserves an honorable mention although it won’t hit theaters until September to lead into spooky season and October.

Italy’s I Wonder Pictures has acquired Italian rights to three new titles from A24, including Benny Safdie’s hotly anticipated “The Smashing Machine” with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.
The move solidifies an ongoing rapport between the indie U.S. studio and the growing Italian distributor.
“Smashing Machine,” which is currently in production and stars “The Rock” as legendary Mma fighter Mark Kerr, who struggled with addiction and his marriage while becoming an icon of the sport, will be released by I Wonder in Italian cinemas in 2025.
I Wonder, which is owned and operated by Biografilm Festival founder Andrea Romeo, has a longstanding — albeit not exclusive — rapport with A24, having successfully released other A24 titles such as “The Zone of Interest,” Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” and “Everything Everywhere All at Once.”

Joining Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield and Ayo Edibiri, Chloë Sevigny is to co-star in Luca Guadagnino’s drama, After The Hunt.

Sevigny is the latest addition to an already starry cast, which so far includes Julia Roberts, Andrew Garfield, Ayo Edebiri and another Guadagnino favourite, Michael Stuhlbarg.
Guadagnino has been busy of late; his most recent film, the tennis-based love triangle Challengers, emerged to critical applause in April, while his next opus, Queer – starring Daniel Craig and based on the book of the same name by William S Burroughs – is out later in 2024.

We're only 9 days away from Inside Out 2 arriving in theaters, and Pixar has released the final trailer for the sequel (via Toonado.com). That puts the spotlight on many of Riley's new emotions, including a fun take on Nostalgia.
Maya Hawke's Anxiety commands much of the screentime here, though, and Joy actress Amy Poehler recently dropped some hints about that character in an interview with Refinery29 Australia.
"Anxiety shows up for a reason," she told the site. "I think we tend to want to push anxiety away - 'Don't worry about it, it's fine!' We want to kind of get it out of our life. But what I think is really cool is they [the filmmakers] let anxiety show up to protect Riley."
"Anxiety gives us a lot of information. It can be really like an engine that gets us to do things and it's not all bad. But...

Months before the highly anticipated third season of “Hacks” premiered, Gold Derby’s thousands of 2024 Emmy predictors collectively agreed that it poses the biggest threat to defending Best Comedy Series champion “The Bear.” As the Max series’ latest batch of episodes dropped throughout May, its standing in the main race steadily improved, with its well-received finale triggering noticeable boosts in multiple categories.
Over the past week, the share of top Best Comedy Series votes held by “The Bear” decreased by 1.2%, while that of “Hacks” grew by the same amount. Although the two programs remain separated by nearly 80 percentage points, it speaks volumes that “Hacks” is at least 1.5 points ahead of every other contender.
After simultaneously running second in their respective races for several weeks, lead and supporting “Hacks” actresses Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are now closer than ever to toppling frontrunners Ayo Edebiri (“The Bear”) and Meryl Streep...

Pixar isn’t pulling any punches when its new film, Inside Out 2, comes to cinemas on June 14. At a time when films come to digital and streaming services alarmingly fast, Pixar says Inside Out 2 will get an extended theatrical run in favor of being rushed to Disney+ shortly after release.
Speaking with Bloomberg, Pixar president Jim Morris says Inside Out 2 is playing in theaters for at least 100 days. “I hope that we will not release another feature film on Disney+,” Morris explained. “If we do more stuff for Disney+, it should be a series, and then that makes a clean demarcation between what we do for theaters and what we do for streaming.”
Pixar found varying success with several of its most recent films, including Soul, Luca, Turning Red, Lightyear, and Elemental. The studio’s biggest releases underperformed theatrically, mostly due to the pandemic, except Elemental, which...

Saturday Night Live remains a hit with the youth.
The long-running NBC show, which just finished up Season 49, remained the number one entertainment series across ad-supported broadcast and cable in the 18-49 demo for the 2023-24 season.
It earned a 1.13 in the demo, beating out series such as Fox’s Krapopolis, which got a 1.1, and CBS’ Survivor and Tracker, which both got a 1.0.
This meant that the show was the number one comedy in the demo for the fifth season in a row.
This was, however, down from numbers posted over the last few years. For instance, in 2021, the show got a 2.06 in the demo. That year it drew 9 million total viewers overall in Live+7 numbers.
In the 2023/24 broadcast season, the show averaged 7.2 million viewers, per Nielsen. This was up 3% from last year.
These numbers, particularly among younger viewers, were presumably helped by hosts such as Pete Davidson, Bad Bunny,...

As we head into the summer, Hulu is shaping up to be one of the most valuable streaming services to have in the month of June. Not only is one of the best shows on television returning for its third season, but the Disney-owned general entertainment platform is also launching a new comedy banner, and FX goes behind the scenes of one of the most explosive situations in recent sports history.
“The Bear” will drop all 10 of its Season 3 episodes on June 27 in what is undoubtedly one of the year’s most anticipated releases. However, that is not the only hot title coming to Hulu in June, the streamer will also launch its “Hulu’s Laughing Now” brand, the sports-focused series “Clipped” that dramatizes the downfall of Donald Sterling as the owner of the LA Clippers, and the documentary “Brats” that brings together members of the legendary Brat Pack to chronicle their rise to fame.

FX on Hulu’s The Bear will dish up an all-new season to kick off summer. Season 2 already elevated the show with its numerous guest stars as well as the transition of the family sandwich shop into a fine dining establishment. Season 1 swept the first of two Emmys ceremonies this year, with the second hoping to follow in those footsteps.
After Season 1 raked in its 10 Emmys at the 75th ceremony, the cast and crew had various responses to the comedy genre label. Since the show’s launch, stars Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach have all been cast in other high profile projects like The Iron Claw for White, The Fantastic Four for Moss-Bachrach and Luca Guadagnino’s next film, The Hunt, for Edebiri.
Fans of the intense kitchen-set series may anticipate new faces and poignant needle drops like Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” for Ebon Moss-Bachrach’s Richie.

Season one of The Bear was about the stress of trying to save a financially ailing neighborhood restaurant, and season two captured the pressure of conceiving and opening a new — and very different — restaurant on a tight timeline.
