Jedi Master Indara (Carrie-Anne Moss) in Lucasfilm’s The Acolyte, exclusively on Disney+. ©2024 Lucasfilm Ltd. & Tm. All Rights Reserved. Carrie-Anne Moss, well known for her performances in The Matrix films, is playing a Jedi Master in the new Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte. Showrunner and creator Leslye Headland took inspiration from Moss’s experience in The Matrix to give her character a distinctive combat style that she called “Force-fu.” Moss accepted the position even though she was unfamiliar with the Star Wars world; she relied on her son’s understanding and Leslye Headland’s advice. You’d think being part of franchises like “The Matrix” and Marvel’s “Jessica Jones” means Carrie-Ann Moss is naturally suited for action material, but she actually appreciates the metaphysical more than the physical. For her, no matter the job, it’s the process of inhabiting a character that feeds her soul, so when she got the offer to play a Jedi Master in the new “Star Wars” Disney+ television series “The Acolyte,” she knew merging herself with the role would mean reigniting her love of combat.
“Within my soul and my spirit, to get to play this Jedi Master and train for the fight was [an] amazing experience,” Moss said in a recent interview with Empire. “I really awakened, actually, a part of me that forgot how much I love action. I love it. I personally love being challenged. It’s a physical challenge, but it’s a mental challenge too.

The 80s and 90s were a great time for character actors. Guys like Gene Hackman, Brian Dennehy, Christopher Walken, John Lithgow, Morgan Freeman and many others occupied this really interesting place where they could lead their own movies and be just as comfortable playing supporting roles – whether large or small – in bigger films without worrying about things legit movie stars have to, such as bankability. Of that era, one of the biggest character actors was no doubt the fast-talking James Woods. In the eighties, his star rose thanks to movies like Videodrome, Salvador, True Believer and many others. While he never became a legit box office superstar, he was in that niche place where he could lead his own movies, such as the underrated Best Seller, while also playing plum supporting roles in movies like Chaplin, The Specialist and Casino. He was noted as one of the town’s biggest scene-stealers,...

“Star Wars: The Acolyte” is the latest chapter in the Star Wars franchise, premiering on Disney+ on June 4th. This series promises a unique adventure, set during the High Republic Era, the Golden Age of the Jedi Order.
Creator Leslye Headland aims to explore the idea that the Jedi don’t have a monopoly on the Force and can also be seen as villains when viewed in a different context.
Apart from the setting, the most intriguing aspect of the show is undoubtedly its characters. Leslye Headland, the creator, revealed that while some characters are original, others, like Vernestra Rwoh, are drawn directly from the books.
Headland highlighted one particularly exciting character, Jedi Master Indara, who will be portrayed by Carrie-Anne Moss. Moss, best known for her iconic role as Trinity in ‘The Matrix’ franchise, recently discussed her new character in an interview with Empire.

‘Star Wars: The Acolyte’ is the next chapter in the ‘Star Wars’ franchise. The show arrives on Disney+ on June 4th and it promises to be a completely different adventure.
The show will be set during the High Republic Era, also known as the Golden Age of Jedi Order due to their overwhelming numbers, and it seems that Headland is trying to use that setting to prove that Jedi don’t have the monopoly on Force and that they too can be bad guys when context is given.
Second only to the setting, the most interesting thing about the show are certainly its characters, Headland herself admitted that some characters are original and some, like Vernerstra Rwoh were taken straight from the books.

How Did Trinity from The Matrix Universe Help Carrie-Anne Bring This Star Wars Character to Life?
In the wild universe of Star Wars, Leslye Headland’s brainchild, The Acolyte, introduces the fans to Jedi Master Indara, a force to be reckoned with. She is someone who can described in one sentence- if Trinity from The Matrix had the Force with her. Well, this is true at a very core level.

The Acolyte: Carrie-Anne Moss Talks Jedi Master Indara, Star Wars Spirituality, And Lightsaber Duels
Imagine if Trinity from The Matrix had Force powers. That, effectively, was the genesis for Jedi Master Indara in The Acolyte – a character who, according to series creator Leslye Headland, is the best of the best, and able to pull gravity-defying tricks out of the bag in the middle of combat. Hence, the obvious choice was to cast Trinity herself, Carrie-Anne Moss. As it turned out, Moss would have much to learn from entering the Star Wars galaxy too.
Empire sat down with Moss to get to know Master Indara – discussing Jedi spirituality, the importance of nailing a lightsaber fight, the thematic connections between Star Wars and The Matrix, and how difficult it is to fight in a Jedi robe.
Empire: What was your reaction when you got the call for Star Wars?

Of L.A.’s two NBA teams, the Clippers have always been like the neglected little brother next to the more glamorous and celebrated Lakers. So it’s fitting, then, that FX’s new Clippers chronicle Clipped — premiering Tuesday, June 4 exclusively on Hulu; I’ve seen all six episodes — pales in comparison to HBO’s superior Lakers saga Winning Time. A gaudy and campy basketball docudrama sung in the key of Ryan Murphy (though Murphy isn’t involved in this production), Clipped bites off far more than it can chew. Arnold Schwarzenegger will face a new foe in the second season of his Netflix series Fubar.
Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix series) has joined the action comedy as a former adversary — and former flame — of Schwarzenegger’s not-quite-retired CIA spy Luke Brunner. Production on Fubar‘s second season began in late April; a premiere date hasn’t been scheduled.
Moss will play Greta Nelso, a former East German operative who shares a passionate history with Luke. He’s tasked with stopping her threat to destroy the world — if she doesn’t destroy his life first.
Fubar is Schwarzenegger’s first starring role in a TV series. The show premiered in May 2023 and was renewed for season two a few weeks later. The first season revolved around Luke, on the verge of retirement, being pulled into a mission to save a fellow CIA officer, who turns out to be his daughter (Monica Barbaro). Milan Carter,...

Carrie-Anne Moss is joining Arnold Schwarzenegger in action comedy series “Fubar” Season 2 as a former East German spy — who has a passionate history with Schwarzenegger’s CIA operative.
Moss joins the returning cast of “Fubar,” which includes Schwarzenegger, Monica Barbaro, Fortune Feimster, Travis Van Winkle, Jay Baruchel, Aparna Brielle, Andy Buckley, Milan Carter, Fabiana Udenio and Barbara Eve Harris.
In Season 2 of “Fubar,” Schwarzenegger reprises his role as Luke Brunner, a veteran CIA operative who, until recently, was on the verge of retirement. After his last mission in saving another operative — who just so happened to be his daughter — he’s back and face-to-face with new villains. This one is an old flame from Luke’s past who threatens to destroy the world… if she doesn’t destroy his life first.
Schwarzenegger, 76, after undergoing open-heart surgery said on social media in March that he was ready to start shooting Season 2 of “Fubar” on schedule.

In the "Star Trek" episode "The Naked Time", the Enterprise arrives at the crumbling planet Psi 2000 to retrieve the scientists working at a research laboratory located there. The Enterprise crew members find everyone has already died, their bodies laid out in bizarre, unexpected ways, all of them frozen by a malfunctioning environmental control unit. The room is frozen and the away mission wears full-body protective gear. While alone, Lieutenant Joe Tormolen (Stewart Moss) has an itch and removes a protective glove. He becomes infected with ... something
After beaming back, Tormelon begins behaving strangely. He sweats a lot and seems to have itchy palms. He's also surly and combative as if he's had too much gin.
Sure enough, Tormelon — as Dr. McCoy (DeForest Kelley) discovers — has contracted a bizarre virus that essentially forces his body to be drunk. Tormelon is an angry drunk, sadly, so he gets into fights and even...

Elisabeth Moss has spilled some tea on the behind-the-scenes of the 1999 film Girl, Interrupted.
Moss starred alongside Winona Ryder, Angelina Jolie, and Brittany Murphy in the Oscar-winning drama about a women’s psychiatric facility.
The future Handmaid’s Tale actress was just 15 years old when she played Polly Clark, a teenager with schizophrenia who also has visible scarring from facial burns.
In an interview on Kelly Ripa’s Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, Moss said that the on-screen tension between characters meant that the cast naturally became divided when the cameras weren’t rolling.
“There were two kinds of camps. There was the Winona Ryder camp and the Angelina Jolie camp,” she said. The divisions were “based on what was on camera.”
“I was in the Winona Ryder camp. The Angelina Jolie camp was really cool. I was intimidated by the Angelina Jolie camp. I had no thoughts of...

Streets have gangs. High schools have cliques. Some movie sets, apparently, have “camps” — some sort of a mix between the two. Elisabeth Moss recently revealed how the filming of her, Winona Ryder, and Angelina Jolie’s 1999 movie saw the actors split into two factions that were, surprisingly, based on the film’s script.
Tale of Two Camps: Ryder vs. Jolie
Recently, Elisabeth Moss sat down with the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast and talked about the filming of 1999’s Girl, Interrupted. Moss was around 15 or 16 years old at the time, and she was excited to work with such huge stars like Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie; she did not, however, anticipate that the two actresses’ star power would tear the cast into two cliques that wouldn’t vibe with each other.
“There were two kinds of camps. There was the Winona Ryder camp and the Angelina Jolie camp. [They existed] off camera,...

Months before she won the 2023 Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy for the first season of FX’s “The Bear,” it was reported that Ayo Edebiri would move up to lead for season two. According to our odds chart, she looks set to become the 12th woman to reap both supporting and lead Emmy bids (in that order) for a single role on a single series. If she takes the gold again, she will become the first to win both comedy actress awards in that order for one show.
Edebiri’s win in the supporting race at the strike-delayed 75th Emmys was preceded by victories in lead for season two at the 2024 Golden Globe and Critics Choice Awards. Having just blocked Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”) from achieving back-to-back supporting Emmy honors, she now faces the challenge of fending off two former lead champions: Jean Smart and Quinta Brunson.

Elisabeth Moss recently appeared on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast while promoting her new FX series “The Veil” and reflected on the “intimidating” but exhilarating set of James Mangold’s 1999 drama “Girl, Interrupted.” Moss was around 15 years old when she shot the movie and starred as Polly “Torch” Clark, a burn victim who suffers from schizophrenia. The cast was headlined by Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie, the latter of whom won an Oscar for her performance. Because of the tension that exists between their two characters, Moss said the film set became naturally divided into two camps.
“There were two kinds of camps. There was the Winona Ryder camp and the Angelina Jolie camp. … Off camera, but based on what was on camera, based on the script,” Moss said. “I was in the Winona Ryder camp. The Angelina Jolie camp was really cool. I was intimidated by the Angelina Jolie camp.

“The Veil” — Pictured: Elisabeth Moss as Imogen Salter. Cr: FX Copyright 2024, FX All Rights Reserved Elisabeth Moss plays an undercover British spy in the new series The Veil, on which she’s also an executive producer. While her father was British, Moss was raised in Los Angeles, and she’s said that adopting a British accent for the series was a big challenge. It wasn’t, however, the biggest challenge she faced. In a series that packs its fair share of action sequences — it is a spy thriller, after all — Moss spoke about how she needed to learn how to pack a punch, as well. It's 2024 and one of the best British television personalities, Steven Knight, is in business like never before! Yes, admittedly, his projects these days are not as critically acclaimed as Peaky Blinders, but they always boast a high level of production and, of course, an excellent cast, which has never been wrong with Knight's TV series.
Last year's All the Light We Cannot See delighted us with the talent of young actors like Louis Hofmann and Aria Mia Loberti, as well as Hollywood colossi Hugh Laurie and Mark Ruffalo, while this March the BBC released This Town, led by the excellent British cast of Levi Brown, Jordan Bolger, Ben Rose and Eve Austin.
And the star of the new series, which is now streaming on Hulu, is none other than Elisabeth Moss, along with other equally stellar cast members that we will talk about below. Although the show has failed to impress critics so far,...
