Dexter: Living the Dream (2009)
Season 4, Episode 1

Horrifying bathtub scene
29 April 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Dexter is one of my all time favorite tv shows. I really like that they have a different villain each season. Veteran actor John Lithgow is the villain in season 4 and he is quite creepy. We get introduced to him in a bathtub scene where he terrifies his victim, slashes her and watches her bleed out while he is looking at her face in a mirror. That may be the most disturbing thing I've ever seen on a tv show. It gives me the creeps just thinking about it. If you have the stomach it's a great episode, great villain and a great show.

In the Heat of the Night: Judgment Day (1993)
Season 6, Episode 12
8/10
Kind of a strange ending
24 February 2020
One thing about "In the Heat of the Night" the show never had a shortage of beautiful women. This episode guest starred the older but still lovely Lois Chiles (The Great Gatsby), sexy Sherilyn Wolter (General Hospital) and of course the show's attractive regulars Anne-Marie Johnson and Denise Nicholas. This episode also was a reunion for "Dallas" cast members Ken Kercheval as the Judge and Larry Hagman who directed this episode. This entry was about the Judge who is running for Congress but he can't control his alcoholic wife. Meanwhile he's having an affair with a sexy councilwoman. Not hard to figure out how this episode will play out. Of course there's gonna be a murder and in the end the scheme becomes unraveled. My problem with this episode is the show ends abruptly with the Judge being arrested. Kind of open ended in my opinion, I guess they ran out of time. Still overall it was pretty good with the usual southern charm and drama.

A Brit portraying Lincoln?
20 February 2020
Daniel Day Lewis is a great actor, no one can deny that. But Spielberg couldn't find one American actor to play one of the greatest Americans of all time. Honestly I really couldn't get past that point. It would be like an American playing Churchill. I watched the entire movie which was very good, maybe a bit too long though.

Joker (I) (2019)
5/10
This Joker was a downer
16 February 2020
Look, the Joker is a dark character I get it. And the whole origins of the Joker/Bruce Wayne angle is definitely movie worthy. However, this has to be one of most depressing movies I have ever seen. Not one positive thing in the whole (too long) movie.

I will say this, whether you like his politics or not Joaquin Phoenix is a really good actor. I think Heath Ledger was a much better Joker though. I think Joaquin is too old (45) to be playing the origins of the Joker. Heath was in his late 20s in his stellar performance. Also the whole DeNiro/Johnny Carson angle was just a bit much. The Joker had just admitted to being a murderer on national TV and DeNiro/Carson lets him ramble on to the point the Joker pulls out a gun and wastes him. No security or police called in and it's just business as usual. Many other plot holes that we're supposed to overlook because this is "art" and Phoenix performance was "genius". Didn't really do it for me.

Gunsmoke: Run, Sheep, Run (1965)
Season 10, Episode 16

Ending was Perplexing
10 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Another outlaw on the run western. Tom Stocker really isn't a bad guy he's just had a bad run of luck. He never intends to hurt anyone he's just trying to evade Matt and Festus. His wife Mary, (played by Davey Davison, points for that) has had enough of running. She convinces Tom to return to Dodge and face Marshal Dillon. Turns out that Tom didn't even commit the crime he was running from. So all's well that ends well, right? No, he apparently killed a man without even knowing it and now Mary has to walk him to jail to face the music. No explanation of how the man was killed, if Tom is gonna hang or anything. Why end it this way? Everyone loses in this episode.

The Waltons (1972–1981)
9/10
Refreshing change from the violence on today's shows.
4 February 2020
I really like the Waltons. I like the family values, the kindness and always having each other's back. I also love the backdrop of the snow and mountains. I think the children in this series did an excellent job and their parts were written very well. I also love that this family was self sufficient and had a great work ethic. The only negatives I can think of is the mother's (Olivia) lines were a little cheesy and her fake accent was annoying. I didn't really care for Grandpa either. Another reviewer said he gave him the creeps, I kind of agree. Overall though a very good series and I wish there were more like it.

Sorry PC police this movie is just plain fun!
23 December 2019
I read the negative reviews saying the brothers were basically kidnappers and rapists. Talk of the Sabine Women, Stockholm Syndrome, etc. To all of these progressive snowflake types, lighten up. It's a colorful, light hearted, fun musical from the 50's.

The women were beautiful and the men were rugged frontiersmen. The men probably didn't see too many prospective brides and vice versa, that's just how it was back then. Why don't we just change the facts and rewrite history for the PC police.

Howard Keel and Jane Powell's singing were great. The choreography and dancing were superior in this movie, especially the barn scene.

This is a really enjoyable musical movie and I'll give it a 9. I know I'll get some thumbs down because all the positive reviews have the same 2 down votes.

Good but too much filler
16 December 2019
Things I liked: 1. Jesse grew a set and was more mature. He was no longer the weak, cowardice, head case he was at times during the series. 2 Skinny Pete and Badger's characters were developed further and were a lot of fun. 3. We got to look inside of Todd's warped mind. He was a complete psychopath and a great villain. 4. Great to see a lot of the old cast. Things I didn't like: 1. Too much filler, too much time with the extractor character and too much time with Todd. 2. Todd was too fat, should of trimmed down for the movie. It was hard to see him as the same guy. 3. Just one meaningless scene with Walter. 4. No Skyler, Walt Jr, Saul? What happened to them? Overall, good but not great movie that could have been so much better IMO.

How in the name of purple wombats?
26 October 2019
TV and movie veteran Burgess Merideth makes his return as the Penguin and he doesn't disappoint in this one. A 2 part fun episode full of dim witted bad guys, bungling police, hokey lines and beauty pageant contestants. The star of this one in my opinion is the would be beauty queen Finella (Julie Gregg). She is gorgeous and the scene where the villains are puffing away in the vacuum death chamber and she is bent over makes this episode a 10 by itself.

Adam-12: Log 76: The Militants (1971)
Season 3, Episode 20
9/10
The PC Police would hate this one today.
10 October 2019
I think in many ways this a very real episode and still relevant today. Police are under the microscope 24/7 nowadays, back then not as much. The story goes black militants lie and falsely accuse 2 cops of murder of an innocent black man. When in fact the black man ambushed the police. In this episode in 1971 the cops were actually seen as the good guys. Back then the media wasn't near as quick to condemn the police. Nowadays there would be a thousand microphones in their faces and marching and rioting in the street. No way this would air today with that storyline. There would be demands to boycott the show.

Gunsmoke: The Devil's Outpost (1969)

Tired script
10 October 2019
Another stagecoach robbery with a predictable ending. I really think the writers of Gunsmoke were running out of ideas in the later seasons. Pretty countryside scenery and Sabrina Scharf who's easy on the eyes are about the only positives I can come up with. I hate to say it but show was way better in the black and white episodes.

Underrated Episode
18 June 2019
I'm seeing mostly 6 through 9 ratings here but I think it's one of the great ones. Plenty of things going on in the background make this a well thought out and clever classic. Like the sexy paintings on the wall, the endless supply of money, beautiful women who never say no and even the devilish Mr Pip dressed in all white. There are subliminal messages here and one of them would be all of these things we desire on earth don't mean anything once we're gone and they wouldn't be fun anymore anyway. A very thought provoking episode even if it was somewhat predictable.

Pretty good but not great episode
7 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The story is a familiar one. An old friend comes to town and he has everyone fooled into believing he's a good guy. Turns out of course he's gone bad and it's up to Matt to save the day.

I really liked the use of the moving camera in this one to give different viewer perspectives. You don't see that much in 60's tv westerns.

The best part of this episode in my opinion is the square dance and dinner scene. Everyone was yucking it up and having a great time.

The fight scene at the mine was not bad but dragged on too long. Kind of annoying how Matt kept getting knocked out, kicked, dirt thrown in face, etc and magically he would get up start fighting again.

Overall a pretty good episode but not great. I

Edgy Gunsmoke episode
24 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Gritty performance by the venerable Denver Pyle. His only daughter (a half breed) is assaulted and murdered by three white men and he seeks revenge on the three assailants.

This episode touches on a few things: Justice, honor, duty, revenge and war with the Indians. Also, like other Gunsmoke episodes it skirts around issues of racism and even rape (you have to assume the daughter was raped before she was murdered). It does that without saying the actual words of course.

A great script with excellent performances by Pyle and Arness in this one. Definitely worth watching.

Disturbingly Bad
17 April 2019
The movie actually has an interesting premise. However, the script and acting are not just bad they are disturbingly bad. It's one of those movies that is so bad that you want to see how awful it can get. I like Nick Cage but come on, this was garbage. Nick needs to lose the beer gut, get better hair plugs and find a better script.....Oh and stop marrying women and getting divorced a week later.

Sort of risqué for a family western
22 March 2019
Don't get me wrong, I really liked the episode and it's message that in the end good always conquers evil. I think the episode touched on rape without saying the actual word. The lovely Brooke Bundy's character was obviously sexually assaulted when the perpetrator attacked her with a rope in his hand and the camera cuts away. Like I said, a really good episode but sort of surprising a family tv show in the 60's would touch on that subject.

A True Cinematic Masterpiece
20 March 2019
I'd like to thank bwright68 for his thorough and intelligently laid out review of this American classic. Nothing more really to say about this truly fine picture. Unfortunately a lot of the one star reviews show how today's audiences need gimmicks (explosions, car crashes, violence, nudity, etc) to hold their attention. Truly great movies don't need these devices....Master filmmaking here worthy of the title: Greatest movie of all time.

Sound and photography are stunning
1 March 2019
Wrong host, someone on the level of Neil deGrasse Tyson or an actual astronaut would be much better. It seemed very scripted and dumbed down but fascinating subject matter. What really bothered me though was the agenda it was obviously pushing. The show suggests that we all need to do our part to save the planet meanwhile NASA has the carbon footprint of whole countries. Will Smith has multiple mansions, including a 42 million dollar monstrosity in Malibu. The hypocrisy is mind boggling. I'll give it 5 stars out of 10 for the subject matter, photography and sound.

Great Idea
22 January 2019
Reminds me of a PC video game from the 90s called "Silent Steel". In that game you were commanding a submarine and picking the correct answers to different situations. There were hundreds of different scenarios but only one path to saving the sub. That was a great game and I always hoped they would make movies in this style. I highly recommend Bandersnatch.
