Jaws (1975)
First spielberg experience
Travelling on a train in 75 I recall reading about this movie for the first time and all the fuss it created. I was 18 yrs old at the time and became aware of the hysteria that it was creating at the time about going into the sea, I held back the viewing until I watched close encounters of the third kind, and if ye pardon the pun , I was hooked on Spielberg .Stephen Spielberg be came the man to watch . Time and time again he kept my young developing mind excited and wanting more and more of his work revealed to me. I remember having what I thought was exciting home made cine films to enter in a national young film makers cine film competition, I didn't even have a camera then. When Jaws came along I was awakened and enthralled my Stephen Spielberg. I will always see Spielberg as my growing up hero of movies and still do I've always been on that boat in life of it's rollercoaster and I'm still here almost 50 years later unwavering. Thanks Stephen.
Poltergeist (1982)
Still does it today
Remember watching this in the cinema and thinking how modern and advanced the Americans were racing ahead with their "Mod Cons" and their openness. I was 20 years of age then and said I'd love to live like that, in a home like that. I thought for years this was directed by Spielberg and loved the new discovery of finding him. To my great surprise I discovered he wrote this and thought what a great talented man he was. This films plot was brilliant as it brought back memories of the fears I had as a child, especially of the shadows of trees in the darkened hall were I was sent for misbehaving. Spielberg certainly knows how to write and presses the right buttons as if he knew me as a child even the tv transportation.
From Scotland with Love (2014)
Golden past of My Scotland
The images captured in this beautiful film of my country are wonderful to me and alas my parents would have been amazed to recall. I feel like an angel recalling memories of the nation through hard time and being grateful for coming through it all and being prepared for what life could throw at me again, Thanks to all who brought all this together for me, my past and my future peers. I can see so many images in this that are so easy to transport my self to and feel, smell, good and bad but most of all feel. Hard work built our nation on a monstrous levels for all the world to see. The weekend spending the money-we earned on just that wee bit magic that brought our dreams and hopes to fruition snd started the next generation that goes on. Here's hoping we never forget our past brought to us through our cherished memories and the talents and skills of the people who brought all these magical memories together. Thankyou, Brien.
The Birds (1963)
Cross examination
Is interesting to see how Hitchcock used the car as a witness box with Mitch leaning on Melanies car door as if in the courtroom. Whilst jesting snd taunting her about the fountain incident in Rome. A clever trick by Hitchcock to see if his audience. Is paying attention.
Braveheart (1995)
Inaccurate historical but pleaseant tale
Sometimes cringeworthy no...a lot of the time cringeworthy but comes across pleasant viewing if you forgive the inaccurate historical scenes. Is typical of us Scots when it comes to loyalty even the present day politicians ride that donkey for everything it hasn't got. And claim victory until it really matters to themselfs ,they would sell their souls as long as the price is right!!
Gladiator (2000)
Masterpiece despite cgi
When I first saw previews I was put off from the repeated views of cgi of the arena .I watched this in my brothers house on DVD and dispelled all my previous thoughts of the previews I'd seen. It's now 20 years since I was given this DVD as a birthday present and watched countless times since.Joaqin Phoenix stole the whole film with his portrayal of the bitter jealous son.I can't praise him enough in his role.
Ryan's Daughter (1970)
Real life then.
A masterpiece worthy of the highest honour. The photography is breathtaking and steals every scene and every atmospheric moment. I dare anyone to exceed .

Amadeus (1984)
Miraculous
This has got to be my favourite film of all time.A masterpiece,a delightful film from start to finish with injections of humour and sadness interwoven throughout. Milos knew this man as if he was alive at the time of direction and proceeded as if Mozart guided his hand and eye. Many an oil painting which could have been hung in the greatest galleries throughout the world from many stills which I,m sure were intentional from this film with such masterful direction. How many of us recognise the jealousy if we,re honest with ourselves has Milos picked out and shown from saltier I (I know I,ve spelt that wrong ,Mozart wouldn't have made that mistake)
Recognising brilliance and hurting seeing it ,again a brilliant stroke from Milos.
How many students have loved and learned from this film?
I recall seeing Oscar night on tv an constantly Hearing Amadeus Amadeus reward after reward ,but alas it wasn't till some 15 years later I actually sat down and watched this film.Bought on dvd then blu ray and still never tire of this wonderful tale of a true genius.well done Milos.R.i.p. And thanks for your wonderful gift.
