Sons of Liberty (2015)
I think its a step in the right direction.
History class for me was so removed and sterile. Mostly because I hated to read so engagement was doomed from the start. Im sure im not the only one holding that sentiment. But I think this type of entertainment could enhance history class by setting the "stage" so to speak. I hope it inspires creativity in pedagogical development.

According to Wikipedia, a survey of the reviews by Rotten Tomatoes, say "53% of critics gave Spanglish a positive review.[3] Its proponents claim it is a portrayal of the difficulty of family problems and self-identity. Negative reviews said it was "uneven", "awkward", and "mean-spirited".
After I wright this I will look at those reviews to see what happens. Maybe it will confirm I know everything or nothing or somewhere in between. Please keep in mind one doesn't have to be a wordsmith to have something to say. That said I think this movie has the following going for it. Before we get into that though I just watched the trailer. One of the things that it had going against it (it lost money) was how it seems to have been marketed, but I think it is a good movie. Maybe If I actually do know something id will be a good source of cultural development one day. Kind of like the admiration towards Neil Armstrong or Niel Haggart for that matter. But anyway to me this movie portrays a cross section of society and touches on: Family values How to confront problems within the family dynamic Questions I think most parents ask of themselves That's all I can remember. I think its one of those worth watching again.
Are awkward, uneven, and mean spirited feelings toward this movie correlated with beliefs that social inequality is inevitable?
If it pleases and sparkles.
Auch Zwerge haben klein angefangen (1970)
Little people can kick some a**!
Amazing
The honeymoon scene 20 min into it- hilarious.
The food fight 40 min in- hilarious
The boys in Oakland can take a lesson or 2 from the dwarf ridding the whip*. At one point he had time to engage in a cock fight to the death and even crucify a monkey.
To describe it with an analogy, this movie is like a drive across the country.
Some really cool, beautiful, funny, mean, and annoying sections separated by vast sections of monotony.
The big drawback: its an hour and a half of listening to a couple laughing Randy from Christmas story
*for all you squares out there, ridding the whip sometimes is refereed to when the driver of a car leaves the drivers seat while the car is in motion
Kimono (1999)
I don't speak Japanese
but I think this movie is about a woman gaining her independence.
Beautiful woman gets kicked to the curb on her wedding day. But its not a city curb. Its the middle of a thicket. (The guy was driving a 2004 beetle- personally, I think she is better off because she has more to offer than such mediocrity anyway).
Half way through the thicket she gets her dress snagged by a branch. The dress comes off to reveal the high heal disco shooed goddess she is.
There is slight girl on girl on girl action which is kind of cool and titillating at the same time.
From a logistical stand point I wonder where she keeps all those changes of lingerie?
In conclusion I think what they are trying to say is that Kimono style is not necessarily oppressive.
