It leaves no cliche unturned
29 September 2023
Good grief this is disappointing. I'm not sure what I was expecting? I gave up on John Wick the last time it had a plot, maybe JW2. But I thought this might be good, go back to the beginning, develop characters and a storyline. Instead you get every single filmmaking cliche in the book. Lazy casting and characters. I think it's trying to be humorous but I could be wrong, maybe it's even worse than I thought?

Anyway if your one of the hard of thinking brigade that think Tom and Jerry cartoon choreographed violence is the coolest thing since sliced bread then you'll probably love it. For those with a slightly higher iQ - avoid or be prepared to be bored senseless.

As bad a movie as you'll ever see
16 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Have to be honest and confess I didn't make it much beyond halfway, but trust me when I tell you that was an achievement. I was gobsmacked at how this even got a release.

The acting is beyond awful, the fight scenes are like itchy and scratchy. I got to a scene where our "hero" put a live hand grenade on a guy, behind his stab vest... the grenade goes off and the guy runs out of the house!!! Albeit on fire I admit, but pleeese.

Lucas Till is a joke as a tough guy, Don Johnson should be ashamed, but I suppose it's a pay check at the end of the day and that's obviously all he cares about these days.

Well I've reach the required characters, and believe me this pile of steaming excrement isn't worth a syllable more.

Foul mouthed unpleasant rubbish
13 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
So, the premise is a good one I suppose...this elite squad of women fighting for their country. But the premise is the only half decent thing about the series. It turns out that the way to show women as strong is just to portray them as violent, unpleasant foul mouthed testosterone fuelled clones of men. They have their own people beaten half to death to "toughen them up" then send them into the field still recovering and covered in bruises. Every cast member is unpleasant and unlikeable - you don't really care what happens to them. Not that it matters because three episodes in the only danger our heroine has faced is from her own side.. even the home life is unrealistic and confrontational. The consultant husband is unpleasant to his staff. The mother (Saldana) is unpleasant to her daughter. The daughter is unpleasant to everybody!

All this is, I suspect, meant to show how dedicated and tough they all are. It doesn't succeed on this or any other level.

Teens might like it
26 May 2023
This is just fluffy nonsense. Sometimes fluffy nonsense can be entertaining fun.....this isn't one of those unfortunately . Cliche ridden script (you know the type "let's do this!"). Tries to pretend it's clever by flitting about the timeline to fill in plot holes, but it just ends up annoying.

No chemistry between the two main protagonists. Another cliche in the nasty British villain. Stanley Tucci must have posted in his bit and looks bored stiff whenever on screen - much like the viewer

Teens and social media addled millennials (and maybe folks just back from the pub with some mates) may find it entertaining but I doubt anyone else will.

Brilliant

I am a white atheist Englishman. I do not pretend to understand the religions of India or the caste system and therefore apologise if people who appear to be offended by this series as being inaccurate on any of those issues think I am not qualified to review it. All I can do is to view it as a police procedural television presentation, and on that score I can tell you I found the program absolutely fantastic.

The acting, the interplay of the characters of different backgrounds was excellent. The pacing, the unfolding of the story, the locations was superb. The editing and cinematography was amazing. I cannot recommend this highly enough and if you want to see an interesting and absorbing police drama without the glossy American clichés then check out this series.

Last three episodes total filler
19 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I loved this initially. A realistic and sensitively handled portrayal of the outset of AIDS. The characters were in the main flea shed out and believable, although the casting of Russell Tovey I found somewhat surprising. I thought the introduction of the archetypal "leather man" was a little too heavy handed and unnecessarily overdone, but overall the concept was good. The trouble is that the story was told and retold by episode 7, the last three episodes were pointless and pretentious nonsense which added nothing and simply detracted from what could have been a poignant and lasting examination of the failings at the time. A shame.

Glossy rubbish
18 February 2021
I'm afraid that some may say i'm not qualified to review this movie in view of the fact that I only made it to about the 20 minute mark before turning off. However that in itself maybe a good reason to post my views. It's just so, so bad.

It's lauded as some kind of feminist post Weinstein statement about how strong women are, but the "real" world already knows that - we don't need super rich snowflake hypocrite movie and music stars to tell us!

Instead, the movie is about a bunch of unpleasant foul mouthed talentless women who try their best to prove that females can be just as moronic and unpleasant as men. Well hip hip hooray! Job done.

Don't........just don't
6 June 2020
You know when you've watched 10 minutes of a movie, and it's slow, boring and kinda pretentious. You wonder whether you should give it a little longer to see if it improves?

This doesn't! It gets even slower and even more boring and even more pretentious. I'm sure the people that made this think they made some kind of artistic cinematic masterpiece, and that the people who gave it really good reviews simply think they're cleverer than you, but as a public service I feel duty bound to advise you not to watch it.

If you exercise your right to make your own mind up, then please feel free - at least I did my bit so you can't blame me!

Most embarrassingly idiotic ending ever?
30 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was was quite a good film and was getting prepared to write a quite glowing review - and then the last ten minutes happened! Did someone else direct the end part? It was insane. Melinda stows always on the yacht unnoticed. The entire crew disappear, allowing her to sneak up on Robert with a gun. They all reappear when she shoots him, but all jump in the ocean as she waves the weapon around!. Melinda then gets pushed into the ocean, but reappears, bone dry with perfectly crimped hair - finds an axe lying around (as you do)

Meanwhile, Diana nips off in a little service vessel, and a few minutes later comes back with all the crew! I kid you not. Most shameful piece of cinematic decision making I have seen in a supposed mainstream movie in years.

Unbelievably boring
11 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I enjoyed the last two in a kind of "guilty pleasure" way, but man this is tedious. There is no plot as such, just a preposterous story line that basically leads to 120 minutes plus of killing after killing after killing. I'm not sure if it's meant to be funny? But often the the violence is so Tom and Jerry that it's hilarious. One scene in particular involving glass cases is hysterically funny. The acting is non existent - not that any is required of the "script" I have to say. Every other person on the planet appears to be some kind of super assassin ( not as super as Keanu obviously) and their leader lives in the desert a million miles from anywhere, although someone does actually give Keanu directions!!! I kid you not. Whoever thought an "all action" movie could be so stunningly boring. I'll give you 20 mins before you're looking round the room wondering if you should decorate soon.

Cartoon violence, fluffy nonsense
10 April 2018
This movie is really just a string of violent fight scenes, nothing more. To hide the absence of a real, coherant plot, the movie leaps from cross to double cross, red herring to double red herring in a desperate bid to give it grvitas beyond it's comic book roots. Bill Skarsgard is again totally miscast - there cant be many 15 year old spies knocking about. Ms Theron adopts one of those clipped perceived english accents that all Americans seem to use (think Angelina as Lara Croft) but her role, as is the whole movie really, is one cliche after another. Overal I suppose it's a way to pass time, but mainly for the younger audience who think they're clever and hip.

Imposible that this scores 7
21 February 2018
At the time of my review IMDB shows a score of 7 for this dross. Absolutely impossible. The plot is lazy and implausible, the acting is pathetic, particularly Oliver Reed, who was abviously just marking time on this movie. The dialouge is embarrasingly bad. Did I talk about the plot? A bunch of college girls are kidnapped by an army - the girls turn out to be experts in combat, guns, grenades etc., and proceed to overthrow the army of men, run by the evil Oliver Reed (who adopts one of the worst accents you will ever here a professional actor use)

My score of 4 is genererous, but reflects that it's a movie you should see for a laugh on a boozy Saturday after the pub.

What a stinker!
31 July 2016
Crikey this film is awful! Stilted dialogue, clichéd set pieces etc etc Never have I seen two more wooden leads in a blockbuster movie. Both Cavill and Hammer are obviously struggling with their accents so much that they have to speak slowly. You can actually see them concentrating on their words. I swear I saw smoke coming from Cavill's ears one time.If they spoke at normal speed the film would be 30 minutes shorter (and better for it)

PG13 would be a fair rating if the ratings were reversed, I.E. if no one over thirteen was supposed to watch it. 13 is in fact probably the ideal age to view this.

The locations are beautiful and it is a visual treat, Alicia Vikander is good, but the plot is nonsense and, dear oh dear Henry and Armie are absolutely awful.

A Joke?
3 January 2014
As a horror movie fan of many years I don't know why I haven't watched this before - probably because I can't stand the pseudo intellectual nonsense that pervades Ken Russell films. I was prepared to be proved wrong by this film, but alas it is the usual KR pretentious Micky-take. The first thing that strikes is some of the most inept acting in a big budget film. I'm not sure what accents Catherine Oxenberg and Sammi Davis are supposed to have but they are appalling. Hugh Grant is... well Hugh Grant really. It doesn't matter whether it horror or comedy (this is both) he plays the same role in every film. Then the trademark "imagery" starts to take over, which I'm sure delights those who like to think they can read significance into them, but is in reality just plain silly. Emperors New Cloths.

Avoid if a horror fan.

This is not a movie
9 April 2013
Seriously? Ten line on this garbage?

How come IMDb have a ten line minimum anyway, I'm sure I've seen hundreds of reviews with less.

I'll give it a go, but trust me this "movie" isn't worth ten syllables let alone ten lines. It's not even a movie as such, it's just a bunch of foul mouthed loser kids who borrowed their dad's camcorder and decided to massage their ego's by pretending they could make a film.

It's simply a stream of immature geeks saying M*****F*****, N****R, A*****E etc etc for about 86 minutes (if you can stay with it that long!) Hopefully in the 9 years since it was made they've grown up a bit and got lives by now.

Please Please Please do not bother with this dross

Could have been so much better
9 April 2013
In my view this film was let down by the lead actress, Ingrid Isensee.

In her defence I guess this is largely due to the script she was given, which portrays her as a vacuous airhead who wanders about the film with a ridiculous detachment in terms of the other cast members. This lets down the entire premise of the film, which purports to be about a group of old friends getting together to celebrate the upcoming birth of the characters first child. There is no warmth whatsoever between her and any of the others, who at at least try to portray old friends.

There is no plot development, no clue as to why some events take place, and no attempt at explanation as to the carnage that occurs. This is a shame, because the direction and camera work is quite stylish. Overall a disappointment, but worth seeing to make your own mind up.

Trespass (2011)
Over the top nonsense
17 October 2011
I generally like to seek out films with a favourable IMDb review, yet have not previously reviewed a film myself. It was the relatively high review score that prompted me to "break my duck" (it's a UK expression) because I simply can't believe how this film has got such good reviews. It has the most outrageously over the top acting and ridiculous script that I have seen in such a long time.

Perversely, it's the absurdity that is the only thing line that keeps it from being boring and predictable - you are weirdly compelled to see how silly it can get. Every single character's handling of the situation and dialogue is so unbelievable that it's almost funny . If you thought that Nick Cage was bad in the ridiculous "Wicker Man" remake then this is certainly a close second.

One reviewer called this film "subtle" and I respect all views, but I found this as subtle as a flying mallet. This is sub standard fare even for the limited acting range of Nick Cage, but Nicole Kidman is sadly wasted here and is capable of so much more.

Sometimes "over the top" can make for entertaining escapism, not here. Sorry, I know it different strokes etc, but I thought this was absolutely awful.
