Sid Haig
1 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It's not easy for me to criticize films like this. This film goes straight over the line. Long story short, I like this film a lot. Sid Haig is so enjoyable in his role. He's like Heath Ledger, he creeps you out with just the way he is, while making you laugh.

And that's the point where this movie does wonderful. Rob Zombie is a master in creating very interesting characters, especially the psychos. No matter if it's Otis, Spaulding or Otis's family, they are so fascinating and scary at the same time.

Some might have a problem with the films editing, but for me that just added very well to the creepy atmosphere.

Last words, SID HAIG ROCKS!

Russel Crowe
5 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
You liked Heath Ledgers Joker, then you might also be scared shitless by Russel Crowes flawless performance as the main antagonist in this outstanding story about hate. I mean just look at him. Just the simple way he moves and stares at the others and his sudden rage attacks. Damn what a performance.

The film itself is really enjoyable/entertaining. This film crosses many lines, with its realistic, harsh tone. It sucks you right into its atmosphere, which can be really depressing in some parts as it does its job so well. And thats good for a film like that. the only bad thing about ROMPER STOMPER is the kind of boring second half. Surely its not a bad second half, it just feels so empty, but well nothing is perfect.

I wouldn't recommend this film for educational reasons. If you are a teacher and you wanna teach your students about racism you better stick with American History X as the moral seams to be a little bit more focused on the subject.

But anyways, check it out.

Bruce Campbell
30 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Bruce Campbell is cursed by his own talent. If I ask somebody over here in Germany what they know about Bruce, they would just tell me that he was in the original Evil Dead trilogy. Me as a movie geek I know who he is and I love all of his films. But as much as I love em, I can't deny that his choice of roles didn't get any better, and that's really sad, as he is a really good actor.

So I wonder how far does this film represent Bruce's career/private life.

The film itself does a good job with making you laugh. Bruce Campbell is a funny guy, the story is idiotic but the film is aware of that and most of all the stereotypes are very well played out. Especially the scene at the town hall makes me laugh a lot.

Good film. Get it.

Beowulf meets Predator
17 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
You didn't like the CG Beowulf, than you will fall in love with this one. Wonder what Jesus did 700 years after his death? Well he crash-landed a spaceship in Norway with a killer dragon on board.

I have no idea why this film wasn't a hit when it was released. It's a very good film with a bunch of very talented actors. The special effects are very nice, there wasn't a single time when I ad the feeling that the so called "Morwen" looked unrealistic.

The only thing that really pisses me off is that Ron Perlmans appearance is so brief. His character is just incredible bad-ass.

Give it a watch, it's a damn good film.

bad film done well
17 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
There's a slight difference between a terrible film and a bad film. As surreal as it sounds, I really enjoy watching this film a lot. Just to get things right, this film is crap, but it really has some really great ideas.

For example the Baboonosaurus. Great idea, but very questionable. I don't think evolution works in such weird ways, but I take it for the cool idea it is. The design of the so called Ichtyo Sapiens (for the short moment its in) is fun to watch. Also I enjoyed the jungle setting.

Just forget about the acting, its that crappy. It's a bad film over and over, it's an enjoyable film.

As much as I would like to say, get it and check it out on your own, but this film ... Well it's a Si-Fi film, a bad one with many very enjoyable parts. Not everyone will like it. If you enjoyed movies like EVOLUTION, you will enjoy A SOUND OF THUNDER.

Yerye Beirute ROCKS
9 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what it is about this one actor, but Yerye Beirute ROCKS. Not because he was a good actor (he was OK) but because you can make so much fun about his character in FEAR CHAMBER/THE TORTURE ZONE (Roland) and in THE INCREDIBLE INVASION/ALIEN TERROR (Thomas). They are both so over the top you have to make fun about them.

I had a pretty good time with this film. Taking it for what it is, this film is very enjoyable. Enjoy it with some good friends and have some beer and you will find yourself having a wonderful time. The hardly makes any sense, the dialogues are beyond bad, ... It's a very special kind of a stupid film and very enjoyable as well.

There's some kind of an anti-nuclear message in it, but it's a very forgettable one.

Warning: Spoilers
Just imagine Steve Martin singing about, how much he enjoys torturing others as a dentist and you have the funniest musical scene ever. This film is a lot of fun.

Did you ever laugh about a very sad, well written and very good performed song? This film will make you laugh about everything it has to offer. Even the really harsh and brutal scenes will make you laugh.

"Stupid woman! Crashed one of freaking scatter brains! Files off the murder!" Every time he says that in the film, it makes me laugh unlike anything else.

I would only recommend this film to people with a really pitch black sense for humor, but for as far as my critical point of view goes, I'll give it 8 out of 10.

"So go 'n git it!"

Action at it's best
9 July 2013
Damn this film rocks. Don't trust me, watch it. This is THE most perfect form of a blockbuster. This film is aware of itself, it knows what it is. Back when James Cameron knew how to make awesome movies, he made unforgettable classics like this. The animatronic and practical effects are just amazing, and by far better than most of todays crappy cgi effects.

It's a film that will always be on top of the food chain. Even if the coolest characters are female (Ripley and Vasquez) this film is pure Testosteron. The only way this film would have turned out to be more manly would have been if Arnold Schwarzenegger would have joined the cast.

Actually thats the only minus to this film. It would have been great to see Arnold killing some Aliens with his manlyness.

not on the same level with Bloodsport
26 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Weather you like it or not, this film is not as good as Bloodsport. Don't get ne wrong, this film is like Bloodsport. It's brutal, it's trashy, it's stupid (very stupid), ... it's an 80's flick. What's interesting is that the video quality is by far worse than the one in Bloodsport. I don't know why I'm nitpicking on that point but every time I watch them after another, I ask myself that question.

As much as I like this film, I don't enjoy it as much as I enjoy Bloodsport. There's so much that doesn't fit in the story. I get what they were trying to get across. They wanted to mix Bloodsport with Karate Kid (just watch the training sequence and you know what I mean). Now don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong about Karate Kid. But TO ME Karate Kid is made for kids and not for Van Damme fans. We Van Damme fans prefer our action scenes bloody.

It's a very entertaining film, never the less, but don't expect to much. For only 10 bucks this film is worth every single Cent. I would say give it a chance, but don't expect to much.

P. S.: DRUNK, DANCING JEAN-CLAUDE VAN DAMME !!!

Give it a watch
26 June 2013
VAN DAMME AT HIS VERY BEST. Even the Japanese version of Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bolo Yeung, can't beat him.

It's as a good a film like this can get. It's so damn 80's. The fight scenes are incredible (especially that black guy, who jumps around like a monkey. He's just amazing.).

Don't judge the acting in this film. Even Forest Whitaker's acting is lazy. But if you enjoy bad acting this film will entertain you. Add some good one-liners and you have BLOODSPORT.

So if you like action films, Van Damme and the 80's you have to see this film. It's one hell of a damn good film.

100 % Testosteron
25 June 2013
This film is as MANLY as film like this can get. It's on the same level as CONAN THE BABARIAN. One giant piece of epicness.

Jerry Goldsmith does one hell of a good job as a composer. He and Basil Poledouris knew how to compose the music for a film like that. Forget the Skyrim soundtrack (as good as it is), this is the music for a barbarian epic.

John Mc Tiernan delivers a solid work as the director. His visions for how to put the word epic on the big screen really pay off. It's not on the same high level as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, but it doesn't have to be. He did the best he could and you can feel that.

I never was a huge fan of Antonio Banderas but, by god, he fits the role. Even if he is Spanish, he looks like an arab. As I said, I never was a big fan of his acting, but here he gave his very best. Maybe not in every single shot he is in, but I don't blame him for that. He did a very good job in my opinion.

In all this film deserves a lot of respect. It's one hell of a good film, even with its flaws and problems here and there.

Check it out. It's a good one.

Classic
25 June 2013
Measured by modern technical standards, this film is a blast from the past in every way.

Watch this film in expectation of seeing a relaxing entertaining film. It's a bad film done very good. The story doesn't need much or lets better say any brain at all. It's a classic monster horror flick.

It's bad acting at it's best. Even the almighty Boris Karloff doesn't seam to care about his performance. The set design is so trashy, it blows your mind.

But all of that makes this film so mind blowing good. It's part of the Boris Karloff DVD Box Set, Limited Edition together with "Alien Terror", "Dance of death" and "Cult of the dead". I recommend this film as well as the limited steelbox edition.

To all you classic horror movie and trash freaks out there, GET IT. It's a film like they don't make them anymore. Just don't expect to get creeped out.

Day Watch (2006)

One giant step up
25 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I saw NIGHT WATCH and I loved it, I saw DAY WATCH and I loved it more. All I can say is, WOW. It's hard to make a good sequel to film that already was fantastic, but they did it.

The characters, again, show how well developed they are and, again, the actors show how good they are. I can't say much about the special effects but sure there is a slight improvement to the first one, but I don't give a damn about that. This film isn't about special effects, but more about what makes a good film. Well developed characters, very good acting, a good story, a good director, ... what every film should be about.

Just to make one thing clear, it's not a perfect film, but it is as close as a film like that can get. I recommend it highly.

Very unique storyline
25 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This film, as well as its sequel, is a masterpiece like no other in the genre. Now to make one thing clear, once and for all, I haven't read the books by now. But for as far as I heard they stayed pretty close to the books.

Unlike most films nowadays that include vampires, this film actually has some very interesting characters. And that's the strength of both films. No matter if good or evil, side or main character, they are all so well developed and played.

I'm used to see dark films like this. The Batman movies, classic 80s splatter and horror movies, ... I like my film atmosphere dark and dirty. This isn't Gotham City, it's not the Blade Runner L.A., it's not (Ba)Sin City, ... it's Moskau. A very very dark and dirty Moskau and all I can say is, WOW. I wanna go to Moskau and see if it's really such a dark city.

I will not spoil the story in anyway, but let me say it like this, there's no film I know so far that has a similar storyline.

So what are you still waiting? Get it and watch it. You won't waste your money.

Bier bisln
20 June 2013
When I think of something timeless I think about something that can bring a certain kind of pleasure to me at any time. This film is one of those I could watch 5 times a day and it would still make laugh every damn time

"Bier! A MAß!"

Just the idea of an extraterrestrial humanoid being having an accident in bavaria and learning about our culture (and about the wet golden pleasure bringing beverage called beer), is already funny as hell.

This film was made to be watched with friends and some beers. Thats all I can say about it. Check it out, it's just a lot of fun.

When the noise became silent
20 June 2013
This film is a revelation. It's a masterpiece, it's just gigantic (in it's very own way).

So where do I start, where do I stop?

It's not like The 13th warrior. It's not like the Conan movies (love all of them). It's not like Pathfinder (neither the original nor the remake).

On the surface it's boring. Don't expect to much action cause it really isn't an action movie. This film takes everything that Hollywood blockbusters have tought us about vikings and (the rough, brutal, harsh, brainless killing machines with the will to burn down everything and everyone in their way).

This film is more like a poetic journey through the question of what is religion and at which point religion becomes insanity. But that's only one of the questions this film asks and answers.

Mads Mikkelsen is just outstanding. I have seen him in Casino Royal and Adam's Apples, but this one top's them both by far. He doesn't need to talk. Where others need pages of dialogue he manages to say everything he thinks by what he does. It's terrific what this man is able to. Give this man all credit every film he made so far, cause he deserves it all. What an amazing actor.

The atmosphere in Walhalla Rising is just wow. This film is all shatterd in a very grey tone. It feels so damn depressing and brutal. This film clearly knows how to create a depressing mood. It might not be packed with many fight scenes, but for the few in the film, it's one hell of a bloody and brutal film. It's not the most brutal film I have ever seen but for what it is, it's very brutal, so I wouldn't recommend to watch this film with children around.

Go check it out, but don't expect a very action driven film. 9/10

Passion Play (2010)

When the beauty came out of nowhere
2 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
There are 2 kinds of films of films out there. The ones who suck and the ones rule. I give Passion Play a thumbs up.

As we live in a time where age doesn't play such a huge role anymore, I don't think Mikey Rourke was a miscast for this role. So far Hollywood failed very often in that point. A very good friend of mine recommended this film to me saying "it might not be the best film ever made, but it gives you the good feeling you want to feel when you are watching a film like this."

It's not the best film I've ever seen and certainly it's not the best film ever made, but the simple beauty of the film will catch you. I'm not a huge Megan Fox fan (so far) but compared to her performance in the Transformers movies, her performance is just amazing. you can say about her whatever you want, but she really can be a good actress.

It's a bit hard for me to give Mickey Rourke the credit he deserves. This man has a special talent, a very rare gift. In every film I've seen him so far, he gives his roles a special kind of personality. Surely his performance isn't flawless, but I would never say that they casted the wrong actor. He was the right decision. There are certain scenes where his performance isn't quite 100 % but he gives the film something this film would really miss without him.

I recommend this film to everyone who just wants to watch a beautiful film, where the beauty comes from your very own definition of the word "beauty".
