Scary Tales: The Return of Mr. Longfellow (2003)
really really funny
watched this at a showing at darx xmas in ohio. joe estevez and the director were there to introduce it. lloyd kaufman was in the theater too.
there was lots of loud music outside the room and it was hard to concentrate on the movie. so, my wife and i purchased a copy and took it home.
when we watched it again it was even better than the first time. there was another movie that showed after this one, but i wont even get into that.
scary tales 2 is about a crook who visits a car dealership. when he wants to buy a car he has to listen to stories about the old owners.
each segment is different. one's a gory horror story, another one has zombies, the last one is like the twilight zone. all are played with the emphasis on comedy instead of horror, and it keeps it fun.
this movie has really good effects and acting all around. joe estevez steals the show.
definitely worth finding if you like comedy horror or trilogy films
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
wes andersons best movie
really, really thought this movie was funny.
it has a lot of really dry humor and a deadpan bill murray in the lead.
while wes anderson's other movies bored me (rushmore was too dry and only the first half of the royal tenanbaums was funny) this one had a lot to take in.
sometime's anderson goes too far and tries to pack in style over substance and it can bog his movies down, but the weirdness in this one only helps along the story.
we cant believe bull murray didn't get an Oscar nomination for this. clearly one of the best comedic performances for a long time.
Scary Tales (2001)
good idea
i watched this movie after seeing part 2.
it's a good idea, about a guy who visits a job finding office. hes offered 3 jobs but can't take them until he hears about them.
each story is about his future. one has him running over a little girl and being haunted by her doll. the last one has edgar allen poe.
not nearly as good as scary tales 2, but worth your time.
one comment though, the acting kind of bad in some spots, but the leads are really, really good.
my wife and i picked this movie up in Ohio at a horror convention (where we watched part 2 with an audience). both movies are hard to find, but worth your time if you can buy them.
Star Trek: Nemesis (2002)
pretty good...hey, its better than 5!
when it was released, this movie gots lots of bad word of mouth. i think it really didn't do very well.
we didn't catch it until it hit video, and thought it was actually a lot better than other movies in the series.
the story is about a clone of captain picard who can infiltrate the enterprise and crew.
the one thing we noticed is that the special effects had really improved with this entry.
while we didn't like st: generations much, this one was entertaining enough to make it a purchase.
really like the wedding scene.
