It's magical, carefully crafted and beautifully portrayed!
17 September 2019
I loved the movie. It goes at the right pace. Each character is carefully chosen and helps build the story. The theme is unusual, but worthwhile if you are going through any relationship issues.

Cinematography is attractive and sets are wonderful. How the situation turns-around after the fallen marriage, could not have been said in a better way!

The takeaways for me were "build the nest, the family will come" and "keep the childhood innocence alive"!

A fresh breeze : A beautiful reminder of simple pleasures of life
5 May 2019
A wonderful movie, moves at the right pace. Charlize Theron was just amazing. She suited the role perfectly, plays it delightfully, and shined in the movie.

One must watch it once a lifetime, who knows it could change their path of lives!

Pure to the core and real joy to watch!
9 January 2019
I loved the movie. Reminds me of simplicity of a good family life in old times. Portrays how closely-knit families overcome adversity, and share love and warmth with one another. Something that we all experience (or hope to experience) in our lifetimes.

Mothers have a special place in our lives. Irene Dunne plays the role of role of family's mom quite well. Her grace, sacrifices, and care for the family sets the main theme of the movie. Her willingness to do anything whether entering in a hospital room to meet her youngest daughter or meeting a famous writer to hand-over the stories of her eldest daughter are told in a humorous way but exhibit the depth of true love and affection any mother have for her children.

Barbara Bel Geddes (the eldest daughter) is an usual growing lady, who aspires to be a writer. She has her dreams and imperfections of a growing kid. Her inquisitiveness, spontaneity, and emotions are heart-warming.

Oskar Homolka (Uncle Chris) has played the role of a strong character. Someone who is funny yet extremely thoughtful. He brings strong emotions and delight to the movie.

The movie is slow-paced, yet doesn't get boring. Those little things of life keeps it interesting.

And yes, there was a lie that the family tells to children. What was that? To find it, watch this pure, delightful, and emotional story of this wonderful family!

Good message and the movie conveys it well!
6 September 2014
Started watching it with low expectations, the way movie progressed, thought that it would be one of those comedy movies that are fun at the end, but this one exceeded expectations.

In a lighter way, it does convey the message, the problem with not only young but many so called mature people. With both boys and girls. Who in order to boost self-esteem, do everything except the right thing!

Last 20 minutes are entertaining, surprising, and inspiring. These pass fast, like a comedy movie, without spending much time, but in entertaining way. Would leave not upon you to explore...

Go and watch, if you too like to end up like this!

Watch it: Will guide actions in life!
12 July 2014
There are some movies that we remember for some reason and this would be one of them for me.

Reasons: For the first 2-hours, it is like a normal movie, uncertain to find why did it receive high ratings. But then in the last 20-minutes the movie changed the course and this is the time that makes it memorable.

The function of fiction is to tell the story in a way, so that it becomes immortal and remarkable, and when a story is told in movie form, direction, cast, sets do have major role to play. The movie portrays all these well!

Lessons: Truthful path in life leads to peace, fulfillment, and respect (as happens in Whip's life), before this he had everything a modern young man can hope for (money, professional satisfaction,fun-filled life), but do we really know, what we need in life!

Not until we have the ultimate motive of life that we live for, and that brings serenity and guides through the true purpose of life.

Strongly recommend to go through the journey and watch the movie to understand it well!

He didn't deserve her at the end
20 July 2013
In terms of the plot and story, the movie is good, it develops slowly and while often things appear to be strange, they do make sense at the end. Light entertaining movie, Audry Hepburn, anyone will fall in love with her! I am rating it 6, because the movie seemed to be ordinary, and just found the ending sick.

Please don't read from here, if don't want to know the climax.

Just because, someone is rich, caring, doesn't mean he can become a husband. He's fatherly for her. His demeanor, personality, and shrewdness is often cheap and while looking at the role of 22-years old Audry Hepburn, he doesn't seem to be suitable for her. On this count, the movie did disappointed and left a bitter feeling at the end. Even if they could have shown it, her leaving David (and Linus too), that would have appeared more graceful. It would have portrayed the feelings of female pride, independence, yet tender nature.

A masterpiece: Watch it to understand, why!
8 July 2013
Among the best movies, I ever saw....for a change, don't know whether I call it drama, romance, inspiration or depressing or what...but have to say that in the last 60 minutes, I incessantly cried...I've seen some wonderful movies, but this is among the best...direction: flawless and a class-apart, cast: nothing could have been better, sets: perfectly suit the story, and story-line: quite different...

the way movie moves just keeps us engrossed, without being able to anticipate what is going to happen, specially in the last one hour...maybe it tells what life is, or helps to find a reflection of our life stories...and that's how we feel connected...

overall, a must watch for those, who really enjoy quality movies!

Tender yet strong: That's all love is about
29 June 2013
It's a masterpiece. Keeps viewers engrossed as the story unfolds. Emotionally satisfying yet there are moments when we often worry about the central character Paula (played by Greer Garson). Undoutably, one of her best performances and she brings life to the character of Paula and later of Margaret Hansen. The story is fast and doesn't let the viewer loose interest. Sets, characters, sound effect, and casts are well chosen. The story is not that new, but the way it is directed and told is quite impactful. The tender yet a strong character of Greer Garson brings the story to life, quite rare in modern movies. A movie that will remain in memories forever!

Truly a masterpiece!
4 August 2012
I wonder why they no longer make such movies. This story had everything, humour, cast, dialogues, emotions, and above all simplicity. Truly, how faith can overcome anything! Now I know why Elizabeth Taylor was so famous. Mrs. Brown character is wonderful, if I've to remember this movie for anything, that would be her dialogues and learnings. Quite deep and old age wisdom. I thought I am a learned person, but she taught be many things. Mi Brown eventually goes, because until we leave there is no coming back! (as he says). The dialogues of the whole movie are quotable, didn't find the same with other movies. The photography is wonderful, Ireland is beautiful and the movie portrays the beauty well. "The Pie" made me start loving horses, may be one day I own one... I'll remember this movie for long...

Underrated: "It goes like it goes..."
28 July 2012
Hard to understand, why on IMDb the movie only has a rating of 7, it deserves much better than this. Wonderful sets, cast, cinematography and plot. Everything beyond perfection! It's a touching story and the movie portrays it well. I have always liked stories that are about justice, while old black and white movies lived up to the expectation, this is relatively newer one and it didn't disappoint. The length is just ideal, it finishes at the right point though leaves much curiosity and longing that it should have lasted more. Great movies are about this. Dialogues are inspiring and background music is impactful. The movie also has one of my favourite songs! Couldn't have asked for more...

True to the book - A life changer
3 July 2012
The book has been a religion for me over 12 years and the movie perfectly put things alive! I waited for the movie for years and it was worth the wait.

Sets, effects, background music, cast - all are true to what Ayn Rand might have visualized.

While the movie was fast paced, feel looking at the long story, that would have been warranted.

I would really be disappointed, if sequels don't come.

Suggestion to those who have not read the novel: I would say, it is almost mandatory to read the novel to understand and appreciate the movie better, as some things are implied in the movie, which after reading the novel the viewers would better understand the context.

Better, if can read another novel "The Fountainhead" also, before reading "Atlas Shrugged" novel and then watch this movie. Trust me, you would love it. It is a different philosophy. Quite radical, different to accept but this is what actually drives the world. You never know, if it changes your life.

Before I go, there is an old movie on the novel "The Fountainhead" too!
