Ted Lasso (2020)
Started great and then....
We LOVED this show during the first season and enjoyed getting to know all the characters. It wasn't too extreme and the little life lessons were actually quite cute. But, somewhere in Season 2 it became like all other shows and turned political. There was such an obvious agenda being pushed on viewers. It's frustrating! Shows are supposed to be entertaining and Ted Lasso was in the beginning. The language is pretty bad and the content is definitely very adult. We enjoyed all the references to pop culture and other movies though. That made it fun. And the rhymes that Ted spew are quite catching!
Donnie Darko (2001)
Overrated waste of time
I absolutely hated this movie. I kept waiting for it to get good or to have some awesome twist or to be fabulous and it just wasn't.
We finally watched this movie (it is July 2023) after hearing about it for years. Both my husband and I were completely bored and feel cheated out of 100 minutes of our lives.
Maybe it was amazing 22 years ago, but, besides the music, we did not enjoy one thing about it. What a colossal waste of time.
I've read dozens of reviews and commentaries and they all seem to act like this love was a work of art. I completely disagree and did not enjoy any of it. It's non-sensical and bizarre.
The Victim (2019)
Riveting - watched in one sitting
My husband and I both agree that this is probably the best movie / series we have seen in a while. We were absolutely enthralled from the first 20 minutes.
Now, that being said, we HATED the shaky camera cinematography in the first episode and a half. Why the heck do they do that?! I was motion sick for the entire first episode. Luckily it just stopped in the second episode.
Ok, back to this series. We loved every second and there was no real resolution until the very end. I think there could have been a bit more background detail, but for the most part this was fabulous.
Kelly Macdonald is perfect and all the acting is impressive.
I Came By (2022)
Very entertaining
My husband and I really liked this movie. The reviews were mediocre and it only had 6.1/10 stars, so we were a little apprehensive. But it was well worth our time. We both agreed it was good. We were hooked into the story immediately. The acting is superb and it wasn't too over-the-top British (sometimes that can be difficult to follow). Hugh Bonneville is excellent - as always.
I wish IMDB didn't force me to write a 600 character review. I really feel like I gave my honest, helpful opinion in the upper 400 characters. Please stop making us waste our time and others' by having to write so much.
The Guilty (2021)
Beyond frustrating
This movie absolutely drove us crazy. 1 - why does every movie have to be about how cops are bad? 2 - there is literally one actor in this entire movie. 3 - the story has potential and we kinda got hooked in but then it just flopped. 4 - Jake Gyllenhall is a great actor but half of the dialogue is stuttering and repetition and babbling. 5 - This is not indicative of what law enforcement is actually like.
I had high hopes for this movie because we know Jake G is a great actor, but it was just so frustrating. Both my husband and I were rolling our eyes and wanting it to just end. Thankfully it's only 90 minutes.
The Whale (2022)
Hate the daughter!
I hate the character of the daughter sooooo much. She is the most ugly, hateful human and it absolutely ruined the movie for me. I taught high school for 25 years and I have NEVER experienced a teenager like her. Her character is so exaggerated and obnoxious that it made this movie unbearable.
That being said, I was very intrigued by the storyline and loved the deep metaphors and parallels. My husband and I enjoyed the movie and don't feel like it was a complete waste of time.
Brendan Fraser is an amazing actor. I can't imagine how stressful all of that weight was on his body. He definitely deserved winning.
The Bourne Legacy (2012)
Shaky camera sucks!
Why, why, why must all the Bourne movies have that terrible shaky camera thing?? Zoom too fast in; zoom to fast over. It's awful and I feel sick watching them all.
Jeremy Renner is fine replacing Matt Damon, but I can not tolerate the palsy effect when filming. I get that they're trying to make it seem more exciting than it really is, but you can still do that without making people want to vomit.
The story could have been great but we turned the movie off after about 5 minutes in. What an utter waste of my time.
Also, why does IMDB insist that a review must be 600 characters? That is also a waste of time.
Old Henry (2021)
Best Western in a While
Highly recommend watching this movie. It was beautiful and well acted. The story is fabulous. My husband and I both enjoyed it very much and felt it was definitely worth the 2 hours of our time.
Memento (2000)
Captivating but could be so much better
I was enthralled with this movie and loved trying to guess at the ending (beginning). We were super invested and on the edge of our seats during the first 90 minutes. Then, we felt kinda let down by the finale. We wanted more. More connections. More twist. More storyline. More explanations.
The Visit (2015)
Pretty decent, worth watching
We love Signs and Sixth Sense; we are always looking for their equal. This movie was pretty close and it has some good moments. But some parts are ridiculous and over the top. The acting is phenomenal. The twist is great. But WHY the shaky camera cinematography??? Ugh. I actually felt seasick multiple times and had to look away. Ick.
Deepwater Horizon (2016)
Great movie / crappy cinematography
Why why why do they shoot movies in that super shaky style?? It makes the movie difficult to watch and it does not add to the thrill. It's a wonderful story with great actors a lot of action. We don't need to be seasick when we watch it.
Felon (2008)
Great / Shaky Camera
This movie would be so much better if it wasn't filmed in such a shaky manner. It made me totally seasick. Great story, acting and premise, though. We really enjoyed the idea.
But I could barely watch - I had to mostly just listen to it. Filming with constant motion does NOT make the movie better. I hate when movies are like this.
Munich: The Edge of War (2021)
I'm NAUSEOUS
WTF with the shaker camera?? Almost the entire movie is shot by someone who has Parkinson's. It's atrocious! Do they think it makes the viewer think there is more intensity?? I HATE IT!
Old (2021)
Seriously - so bad
I absolutely LOVE most of M. Night's movies but this one stunk! It was so bad in so many ways. A total waste of time. The idea is super neat but it just can't be done in a 2-hour movie. I kept waiting for it to get good but it just got more stupid and non-sensical.
Run Hide Fight (2020)
Decent - not great
Except for the completely unnecessary gratuitous nudity, this movie was entertaining.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
Dullsville
Gah - I wanted this movie to be great and there is one neat unexpected event, but, for the most part, it was extremely boring. Ugh.
A Perfect Getaway (2009)
Very Entertaining!
Great movie, interesting storyline. Watching it the second time reveals all the innuendos and twists together. Ok acting and characters.
Jackie (2016)
Booorrrriiinnnggg
This movie was so terribly boring and a complete waste of time. Jackie was portrayed completely differently than every biography ever written about her. Very odd.
Let There Be Light (2017)
Good Faith-based Message
The world needs hope and this movie provides it. For a Christian movie, this one is quite good. There were actually some plots twists that we weren't expecting.
Mary Queen of Scots (2018)
Love Historical Fiction
Fabulous acting, wonderful costumes, realistic scenes / landscapes, intriguing dialogue. I have watched this movie 5 times now and learn more each time. The first viewing was difficult for me to fully comprehend but after multiple viewings it makes more sense. It is definitely a top ten favorite! Highly recommend.
First Reformed (2017)
Absolutely Boring!
What a total waste of 2 hours of my life. This movie was so ridiculously dull and pointless. I kept waiting to be entertained and was never appeased. Do not fall prey to this awful movie that is full of propaganda about climate change.
The Outpost (2019)
Excellent but...
This movie would be a 10 if they wouldn't do the shaky-camera-cinematography. I'm so sick of it! Please stop making movies with that horrible method it doesn't make it more thrilling; it just makes people sick.
A Hidden Life (2019)
Snooze Alert!
Soooooo boring. Great actors but really no storyline or point. Hated it.
Deadwood (2019)
Awful
This was like watching a high school production of a Shakespeare play. It's almost as if the characters didn't understand their lines and were just reciting them. Very odd. Language was horrible.
300 (2006)
Sooooo entertaining!
Aside from the unnecessary and gratuitous nudity, this is an excellent movie. We own it and enjoy watching it at least twice a year.
