Snitch (2013)
'The Rock' in another surprising role
I am little surprised after watching the movie. It wasn't what I expected after watching the trailers but it was good nonetheless. It does not have much action. It more like a crime drama movie. Dwayne Johnson did a wonder job with this role. He has done lot of experiments with role selection but this time I can say that he succeeded.
Overall acting is good. Lots of emotional stuff in it. Story seemed a bit unrealistic to me but its not that bad. Dwayne Johnson seems miscast for the role because I think he is too tough for this kinda role. Its hard to believe him getting beaten by couple of punks.
Anyway, I think the movie is good to watch. You should enjoy it.
Go Goa Gone (2013)
First Bollywood Zombie Comedy is a Fail
Bollywood tries to go Hollywood. Fails!!!
I am not a fan of Bollywood movies but This one seemed like something new and I just wanted to see how good is this experiment of Bollywood. It looked quite funny in trailers but in actual it is not that funny. The characters were terribly played by the actors. Kunal Kemu plays the role of a philanderer. I just can't believe that character played by Kunal Khemu could get laid.
Good bits:
1. Something new to see from Bollywood.
2. Not another love story.
3. Not those typical Bollywood moments.
Bad bits:
1. Terrible acting except Saif and Das.
2. Not much of Violence, Gore and Gun play that you would expect in a Zombie movie.
3. Plot holes, illogical even for a ZomCom.
Verdict: You can enjoy this movie if you have never seen any Zombie Comedy before.
Rise of the Guardians (2012)
Mix of Little Good and More Bad
I liked some things about the movie but overall i am disappointed. I like animated movies but this one just failed to impress. It seems to me that the movie could have been much better. It has a good plot but the characters were a let down.
It has the same old concept of Good vs Evil. But it is not the bad part of the movie.
Santa is just weird. He fights with swords and has a some kinda European accent. Also the other characters, none of them is funny or likable.
Biggest problem with this movie is that it lacks funny part of animation movies. It hardly succeeds at making you just smile couple of times. If it had some good laughs it would have been a much better movie.
Pi (1998)
Totally Senseless and Extremely Boring!
This movie is really awful. It was one of the cases when you get deceived by the rating of the movie. I really thought that it would be a good movie. But it turned out to be totally opposite of that.
It attempts to portray the relationship of mathematics and religious secrets which seemed like a good concept to me a first. But what they showed in the movie was disappointing. The story is senseless. The acting was bad. And there is nothing happening in the movie except some really ordinary and shallow dialogue between a crazy mathematician(protagonist) and some other people. In the entire movie I kept waiting for the moment where I could find some sense but I couldn't.
Gangster Squad (2013)
A Formulaic Entertainer!
This movie is fast paced entertainment. It doesn't have the depth of Goodfellas and other classic Gangster movies but it doesn't need to. It is a formulaic entertainer with more action and clichés.
Acting was good. Specially Josh Brolin and Sean Penn were really good. Cast was good except Emma Stone and Michael Pena. Pena's character seems unnecessarily added in the story. Dialogues were good at times but also funny at times. It has some funny scenes which i think are not ideal in a serious movie but i liked them. It has lots of repeated formulas. You may feel that you have already seen this many times throughout the movie. But in spite this, it entertains you.
All in all, I think if you are not looking for classic Gangster crime drama, it is a very enjoyable movie.
Special Chabbis (2013)
Not As Good As Expected
Because of the reputation of the director from his previous movie, I was hoping for something better than what I watched. However, the movie is not all bad. It is fast paced, enjoyable and funny at times. Only major problem with the movie is the story. You need to ignore several unbelievable incidents in the movie to enjoy it properly.
Acting by lead actors is good. In particular Anupam Kher and Manoj Bajpayee were very good. Akshay and supporting cast were OK. Music was not impressive. First Half of movie is good but it is the second half, specially the end when you feel that something is not right.
This movie could have been better if the story was a little better and believable. Needless twists and trickery shown in the movie really let it down.
Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012)
Good according to bollywood standards
I watched this movie because many of my friends praised this movie a lot. So I watched with high expectations. Maybe that's why I didn't find it that amazing. But it was a good movie nevertheless.
JTHJ has good story. Something new to see. Not so predictable. It is shot in beautiful locations which makes it beautiful to watch. Acting was average. Shahrukh was as usual shahrukh. It has the typical Bollywood elements of dancing, singing and is over dramatic at some places. A tragic ending could have made things a little interesting.
To sum it up, if you are a Bollywood fan or shahrukh fan, you are going to love it. Otherwise, it is an average movie which is almost one hour lengthier.
Aarakshan (2011)
Real depiction of Education System and Society of India
Aarakshan is one of the few movies of Bollywood with great subject. One thing that i really liked about this movie is that its portrayal of Indian society and Indian education system is very close to reality.
The main idea of the movie is to uncover the flaws in education system in India. It unveils the commercial coaching culture and shows the unavailability of equal education for everybody.
It also touches a sensitive issue of caste-based reservation. It has given a very fair and sensible explanation of the subject. It also depicts the hate among people because of reservations and in a way delivers a message to the general public to understand this subject.
Good acting performances by the whole cast especially amitabh bachchan. I really appreciate this brave effort by the Director Prakash Jha. Great Movie!!
